Started a new thread for all us April ladies.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LoobyLou33 · 08/10/2012 17:58

sugarfiend I've had a blocked up nose, you could try saline solution? Babies can use that so it's safe.

aufanie I second hot lemon and honey (not tried with brandy but bet it's warming!)

Now I have a question I'd like opinions on. Would you go on holiday with DH's large family (in the UK) when the baby is 3 months old? They're planning one in July - we'd hire a big cottage or lodges - I agreed to it but a bit worried I'll be a sleep deprived wreck and still at that stage where they're on the boob a lot. On the other hand - plenty of people to play with DS1 who'll be 2 by then and the last one was lovely. DH doesn't drive so I may have a 3-4 hour drive on my hands. Be interested to know what you'd plan to do.

miarosemum · 08/10/2012 18:12

Giddy what is pelvic girdle pain? I just assumed it was sciatica as I had it last time but not till the end of my pregnancy? This is too early for sciatica? Have been in terrible pain and starts in my right bum cheek and down my right thigh at back

MrsJohnDeere · 08/10/2012 18:53

Loubyloo - if you get on with them and are comfortable feeding around them them yes I would. As its in the UK, if it really doesn't work out you can always just get into the car and drive home.
We had a hellish holiday in France with MIL when ds1 was 4 months old, but that was because MIL expected me to run around at her beck and call and she didn't nothing at all to help (and dropped ds1 on a stone floor at one point too). We've not holidayed with her since!

We can't work out what to do about holidays either. I think probably dh will take the other Dcs somewhere in the summer and I'll just chill out at home with #3. He doesn't want to holiday in the UK, but I can't face a flight or long car journey with a baby, and worry that we wouldn't get a passport in time.

angeltattoo · 08/10/2012 18:54

Hi everyone,

I wasn't sick at the weekend yay, i was sick this morning though, and OH MY GOD THE SPOTS....not only are they ugly but they're bloody painful too! Where's my bloom?!

Well, my mum seems to have told the world and his wife and I told my work colleagues on Friday so it all feels real now.

I'm posting because i am very excited, i appear to have a bump yay! A small proper bump, not big fat belly or bloat but my tummy is rounded and sticking out! Whoo hoo!

angeltattoo · 08/10/2012 18:54

Whoops, 13+3, time is going more quickly now!

MrsJohnDeere · 08/10/2012 18:57

And no, haven't spotted any sign of a baby boom here. I wish there was. I'd dearly love to go through the baby stage with a friend who was doing the same. So far I've only found one other child who will be in the same school year as dc3 and the mother is someone I'd cross the street to avoid. I keep staring at people's stomachs looking for baby bumps, but all the other school mothers seem to be losing weight. We're in a small village and everyone knows everyone.

MrsJohnDeere · 08/10/2012 18:58

Yay for bumps!

Giddypants · 08/10/2012 19:07

miarose this site may help, I thought it was just sciatica that I had as i had it towards the end with DS but it started early this time althought I don't have the SPD pain (yet) it's all comes under the same umbrella term, my pain also hit in my left buttock and goes all down my leg, when I rest it my leg goes numb.

SneezySnatcher · 08/10/2012 19:15

Definite baby boom here. I know five (yes, five) people who are due within a few weeks of me. These are all DC2 as well. One of them is my lovely SIL!!!

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 08/10/2012 19:27

Ooh, I'm in the middle of a baby boom. I'm one of three at work due in April, and we're only a small team!

Miarosemum - I have had exactly the same pain you've described, but off and on, especially if I've been sat or standing for a while. The only thing that would help was DH giving my hips and arse cheek a good knead Blush

somewherebecomingrain · 08/10/2012 20:04

no baby boom for me although my DP's best friend's wife is preggo. she's 8 or 9 weeks, had a miscarriage a little while ago, i'm crossing everything for her.

miarosemum · 08/10/2012 20:05

giddy thank you for that link, just going to have a look now...had a quick google earlier after you first mentioned it and symptoms are just the same as what I am having...one sided from bum down, worse at night especially if active in day which I am on my feet all day working at the airport! it said it can happen as early as first trimester or late on towards the end. wheras sciatica occurs more often towards the end...ifatfirstudontsucceed the pain is awful and like you said on and off, when I am at work or moving around in the day I don't feel it as much but at night as soon as I sit down and then go to bed, I have to take paracetamol as the pain is awful, and then in the morning I get the shooting pains from my bum when I get up and down

kellestar · 08/10/2012 20:19

for those with colds try the saline nasal spray for babies, it really helped me out during PG and BF. Also snufflebabes is good [like vicks vaporub but gentler on the skin]. It is uncomfortable using the saline spray, but it really does help unblock, though your nose will run. I recommend nice tissues too. DH bought some in error and they made such a difference to my nose, it wasn't red and tender.

I embarrassingly fainted at Tesco this afternoon. Staff were lovely, put it all through the till, packed into bags and took it out to my car, I just had to pay and eat a sandwich and drink a cup of sweet tea before they let me go. DD was not impressed.

PGP is awful, mine started as that last time and progressed to full blown SPD from about 16 weeks, was on co-codamol from 20 weeks, 22 weeks signed off work and 30 weeks on crutches. I had physio every other week from 22 weeks and it provided a nice relief for a little while. But then I'd usually pay later as I'd do some things I probably shouldn't and the ache would get me later in bed. Memory foam mattress topper and dreamgenii pillow helped. I think if it came up this time, I think I'd get DH to pay for accupuncture. I've also been doing pilates since then to strengthen my core muscles, which should help this time.

miarosemum · 08/10/2012 20:30

kellestar, poor you that sounds awful....do you feel ok so far? I did go to see my gp two weeks ago who said it was just muscular and it would go in a week..yeah right! so I will be making another appointment with gp to suggest PGP, and if that gets me nowhere I will just find my own physiotherapist, it does sound promising on a few websites I have been on that physiotherapy can help align the muscles in the (ahem) backside, and relieve the pain..and you say acupuncture is helpful too?

JaquelineHyde · 08/10/2012 21:34

I've had SPD in a previous pg too and it is hell. I got it from quite early on and nothing I did or was offered helped at all, it was bloody horrible but disapeared the second I gave birth Smile

Get it acknowledged asap so you can get some physio etc as soon as possible.

Aufanie how did the scan/consultant apt go?

aufaniae · 08/10/2012 23:10

Good news, the scan was great, the whole thing was very reassuring. It was very thorough, they looked at loads of stuff, the nasal bone, heart, lots of measurements of different bits of the body, and everything looks fine.

She said they don't reassess the risk, but off the top of her head she'd say it was more like 1:300 than 1:120 given the new information from today.

I feel very reassured. The low Papp-A isn't to with a notch - she checked both my arteries in the womb, and no notch on the bloodflow so that bit remains a mystery for now.

Jaqueline I had Miss Sinha, she was great, she seemed very experienced.

It was great to see the baby again, it was sticking its tongue out at us today :)

I'm sorry to have been such a worry-wart, people. Sorry also for the me me me post, I am going to have to come back and catch up tomorrow, I am fit to drop!

Night all :)

Missmuffet28 · 08/10/2012 23:14

Glad you feel a lot better now aufaniae sounds like your scan was great!! Have a cracking nights sleep now! X

bunnygirl80 · 09/10/2012 00:42

Good news on the scan aufaniaue Hope it's put your mind at rest a little.

I've also been getting the bum cheek pain, down the left side. It's worse on a Tuesday, and I've figured out the chair I sit on at work on a Tues isn't the best for me at the moment, I tend to twist my left leg a bit. Mentioned it to my obstetrician yesterday, and she's referred me for physio. I did get SPD at the end with DS, so I'm just going to try wearing the sexy support girdle they gave me for a few days and see if that helps.

For colds and stuffy noses, I got a saline spray with eucalyptus in which really helped. I asked at the pharmacy too, and she said it was ok to use decongestant nasal spray for up to three days as well.

Teapig · 09/10/2012 07:55

Great news on your scan aufaniae, so pleased everything is looking good.

My scan is tomorrow which feels very surreal, I'm in the don't feel pg camp so having a hard time believing there might be a baby in there. Keeping everything crossed.

I can relate to the annoying DP stories but in a slightly different way. Mine is driving me mad by wrapping me up in cotton wool. I'm not allowed to ride my bike, climb a ladder, carry shopping, eat baked camembert etc. It's very sweet and I guess after mc he is being protective but makes me want to unicycle to the shops and eat baked camembert up a ladder.

miarosemum · 09/10/2012 08:41

good news on the scan aufanie, really pleased for you...well I have been awake since 1am with this awful leg pain, if this is pgp then I need to see a physio as soon as possible, trying to get through to my docs to get a appointment but as usual this time of the morning so busy!

miarosemum · 09/10/2012 08:41

oops forgot Good morning ladies!! on a brighter note 14+1

itsaruddygame · 09/10/2012 08:50

Great news aufaniae! Sounds really positive Smile

Good luck for your scan teapig - I expect you will be very excited later! I felt very nauseous and tired but still was pleasantly surprised when there really was a baby in there Grin

I am 15 weeks tomorrow and getting really excited now. Still the odd wave of nausea before mealtimes but feeling a lot better. Energy levels not quite normal but better than the feeling drugged stage!

somewherebecomingrain · 09/10/2012 09:47

great news aufanie so brilliant.
sorry to all those with leg and groin pain and nausea.
i'm 13+5 and still feeling sick but not as bad. need to tidy the house and sort out my paperwork - it's all gone completely to hell in the past 3 months. but can hardly make myself start. want yesterday's leftover pasta!

xxx

chocoloco12 · 09/10/2012 16:17

Hello everyone,

A newbie here and would love to join you ladies! I am 12+5 today and this will be DC2, DD1 is not quite a year old- we must be mad!

Had a scary weekend, on sunday had a massive bleed, not just spotting like gushing (sorry if tmi), went to A+E and sent to emergency gyne unit for scan, and baby was there on the screen kicking away i couldnt believe it! have had spotting since and have another scan booked monday so fingers crossed!

hope youre all good x

Teapig · 09/10/2012 17:03

Welcome chocoloco, congratulations! Sorry to hear you had such a scary weekend. I've read so many stories of people having big bleeds and sometimes throughout pregnancy and everything has worked out fine so try not to worry too much. I know there are some ladies on here who have had bleeding and have little wiggly babies so sure others will give you reassurance too.

Good luck for your scan on Monday.
