All the time birdies! Thank god for anti emitics sickness wise I will b very happy after I've been sterilised! :)

Pascha · 02/11/2012 20:29

The CDC appears to agree then.

PixelCarrier · 02/11/2012 22:22

My understanding is that we'll never know for sure about the antibodies, as they would never get permission to do that sort of research on newborns. But we do know that antibodies do cross the placenta, so I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that pertussis antibodies will too. So I'm really keen to make sure that my baby is as protected as possible. In my view, any theoretical risk of the vaccine is far, far outweighed by the very real risk to newborns exposed to the pertussis infection.

djvesi · 03/11/2012 04:10

Hello insomnia day 2.

Wrt antibodies, as far as I was aware, they're mostly transmitted in the early days of breast feeding, which is why it is so important to get those first colostrum feeds to junior. I think it has something to do with their stomachs being able to absorb the large immunoglobulins straight after birth, I also think that there is a window time in which it is possible. But in general, breast milk really protects the little one from
Infection overall, so very recommended to breast feed at least until junior's immunity is more stabilised. Love to hear thoughts on the matter.

PixelCarrier · 03/11/2012 07:01

Antibodies (IgG) definitely cross the placenta from about 20-24 weeks, and are an important part of a newborns immune system in the first few weeks of life. Some are also passed on in breast milk, which is why it's recommended (as we all know), but they are mostly transmitted during pregnancy (there just isn't a campaign to tell you to pass your antibodies over in pregnancy - 'cos we're all doing it anyway!)

djvesi · 03/11/2012 08:30

Hey PixelCarrier yeh I started reading a few articles after posting, should really know all this as working in embryo development research for a long time, but not in immunity. Seems its all Fc receptor driven transmission, but I read it was more prominent in the 3rd tri, which is why preemies 28 weeks and younger have much impaired immunity, coupled with the lower chances of receiving breast milk after extended hospitalisation. So the fact that so many are getting immunisation shots now, makes absolute sense to me. Of course, they don't promote anything like that in Finland. Hmm I miss UK health care.

djvesi · 03/11/2012 08:30

Ops, means to write Hey Pixel Carrier, sorry, didn't mean to strike you out!

godzookey · 03/11/2012 18:48

Evening Ladies,

My top tip of the day- Co Op sticky toffee pudding, I've just eaten 3/4 of a pudding meant for 4!!

soooo deelishh though!

x

Birdies · 03/11/2012 22:11

Nice one godz! I always ignore the serving size, I reckon 3/4 means for 1!!

I was having one treat a day but I seem to have ramped it up to several a day, oops Confused

Birdies · 03/11/2012 22:12

Oh hang on, you ate 3/4 of a 4 portion one? I hope you've eaten the last 1/4 by now haha!

happyhow · 04/11/2012 08:48

I went to see Michael McIntyre last night. I haven't laughed so much in ages!! My bump was sore (and still is) from all the laughing.

On the food matter, I ate a massive curry last night.... I take it we've reached the "bottomless pit" stage?

newbie6 · 04/11/2012 10:05

happyhow we're going tomorrow and cannot wait! Hope junior likes him too, hee hee x

Complicated24 · 04/11/2012 11:30

Just caught up with everyone's news. So sorry you aren't sleeping Newbie. I was like that too and would have a really crap night's sleep about 5 nights out of 6, then on 6th night was so exhausted would sleep all the way through (apart from odd loo trip). This lasted for about 6 weeks and it completely debilitating and I was crying a lot as was so exhausted. However, I now seem to be sleeping much better as Restless Legs Syndrome isn't nearly as bad. Still waking up for loo of course then go straight back to sleep. Hope it sorts itself out soon as I feel your pain.

Squealy I agree that it's fine to bail and go out with your friend for a more sober evening at a later stage.

Pascha really useful info on WC jab. Thanks. I had it on Thursday.

I had a real fright on Friday as we were going up North to clear out my Mother's house which is on the market (she is now in a nursing home). DH had a meeting in Cambridgeshire on Friday so I decided to go with him (I was off work), then we could get on motorway straight after his meeting and beat rush hour traffic. I drove into Cambridge during his meeting with the goal of getting everything I needed for hospital bag and some baby clothes. Whilst I was there I suddenly realised that I hadn't felt the baby move for a bit. The baby is really active so this was unusual. I found a coffee shop and sat down and ate a Twirl as this normally gets baby going, but nothing. I got myself in a right state as I thought I am in Cambridge, with no hospital notes and felt really vulnerable. I also didn't have the right telnos in my mobile for the labour ward. No-one was picking up phone in antenatal clinic. All sorts of awful thoughts went through my head included a bad reaction to WC jab (as arm was very sore). Anyway, I got into car and drove back to Huntington (where DH was having mtg), had radio on full blast as baby loves music, ate a banana when I got there and baby kicked and I promptly burst out crying. It was terrifying. I eventually got through to hospital and they said I only needed to come in if noticed change of movement again, but to monitor closely in meantime. Since then baby has been really active. I will now always carry my hospital notes, even if only going an hour or so from home and will ensure I have right nos in my mobile. And I will go out and buy stuff I need for hospital bag as I achieved bu**er all in Cambridge!!!

BuntyCollocks · 04/11/2012 14:26

Hi everyone. Had a horrible weekend. :(

Locked my DS in the car at the services on the way to Scotland on Friday night - the autolock malfunctioned - so spent 90 mins howling and snottering down the phone until greenflag saves the day. Worst night of my life.

Saw Michael McIntyre last night as well, who was great, but baby was very quiet yesterday which worried me, and was still exceptionally quiet this morning, so DH and I traipsed up to the hospital, sans notes, to get checked out. Madam is hiding right behind her placenta, not a limb outside of it, so every movement is currently not felt. I was in a right state between that and Friday night.

It's been the most horrid, stressful weekend I've ever had. To top it off, I've got the start of a chest infection, so ill be at the doc tomorrow. Can't wait for this baby to be safely out and in my arms. Little madam.

Definitely taking at least tomorrow off. I've never had a sick day, I feel like shit, and it's been an awful weekend. I need the time to recover, and someone else can do all the work for once. :(

Pascha · 04/11/2012 15:47

Oh god how awful for both of you Complicated and Bunty! Glad you both got reassurance in the end. Not sure I would have been too happy waiting 90 minutes outside my car with my son locked in though.

I have been very lax about having my notes nearby so far but I suppose I ought to have them close from now on. I took DS swimming this morning but held off taking him down the flume because the thought of traipsing up all those stairs with him needing a pick up near the top slightly scared me for the first time and it did pass through my mind What if I went into labour right now?

Just ordered the carseat and base from Halfords so thats virtually the last big thing ticked off my list for baby. I am sitting in front of the woodburner with hot chocolate in my hand in an empty house for once as DH and DS have gone to B&Q.

Bliss.

Pascha · 04/11/2012 15:50

And my arm still hurts from my jab on friday.

Birdies · 04/11/2012 19:26

Sorry to hear about your weekends bunty and complicated but glad it turned out ok in the end with your babies.

I haven't been carrying my notes around either and I haven't packed my hospital bag yet even though I planned to do it a couple of weeks ago. I'm 32 weeks today and should get on with it really. I keep getting stronger Braxton hicks contractions so I'd like to be properly prepared just in case! Is anyone else still needing a wee a lot? And then you go and there's not much there? I thought that was meant to ease off by now but if anything it's getting worse. I lost count of the number of times I was up last night.

Hope everyone else is ok.

PixelCarrier · 04/11/2012 19:40

Glad it all turned out ok in the end, complicated and bunty but sounds really horrible at the time.

Hope your arm starts feeling better soon pascha.

I got really paranoid early on with taking my notes everywhere with me as I had lots of bleeding in the first trimester, but I've got a bit slack with them recently. I probably should start taking them with me more now though....

Had a lovely people filled weekend (a group of friends round for dinner Saturday evening before going out to see the local fireworks, then DH's family round for Sunday lunch today, and then I was doing Sunday school this afternoon too, so running around after lovely but very active reception to Year 4 kids), but am now knackered. DH is being wonderful and making me dinner and I get to sit on the sofa with my feet up. Bliss...

AppleCrumples · 04/11/2012 20:24

Glad your both ok complicated and bunty. What a weekend eh?!

birdies sorry to have to tell you but once baby has 'dropped' (engaged) they're so low you constantly feel the need to wee at the end! I remember after each baby the relief that I no longer had to waddle upstairs for a tiny pee and could actually wait ages and end up with full bladder! On the plus side once you get to this point your just glad bubs is no longer squashing your lungs...

(covers eyes... runs away crying why am I doing this again)

djvesi · 04/11/2012 21:04

Absolutely terrible stresses developing here too. Am paranoid the blood pressure problems will start any minute. My neighbour has decided to initiate a border dispute by planting a bunch of pine trees late in the evening on what should be our side of our fence (semi detached) days after building works are finalized, prior to our border fence being reattached by next spring. We told her during the day that we disagree, but she did it anyway. Incredible. Our first house, and now our first border dispute....just on 29 weeks pregnant. Can't shake the anxiety and relax at all Sad Angry

Bunny222 · 04/11/2012 22:38

complicated bunty* ouvesi that sounds like youve had some tricky weekends.

Not much to tell from my end, baby feels like hes doing a rumba in my belly! Not looking forward to this week at work with nitemare boss, am counting down those weeks!

Berniebennett · 05/11/2012 08:18

I had a quite eventful weekend moving house, now having to tackle all the unpacking! But I'm now officially on MAT leave ( well actually I am lucky enough to have 4 weeks annual leave left to take by the end of the year) but I have 9 1/2 weeks until bump arrives, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself! still I shouldn't complain I'm very lucky!

bealos · 05/11/2012 09:22

It's my birthday today!!!

Had a lovely party yesterday afternoon with lots of friends round. Made lots of nice bonfire type treats such as proper baked potatoes, lentil soup and sticky toffee parkin... lovely. Even stopped raining for a bit so we had sparklers and did marshmallows on a fire outside (in the tiny garden!).

Now feeling rather sorry for myself as neither dp nor ds1 (ok he's only 6) mentioned birthday this morning til half way through breakfast. So sign of breakfast made for me, card, etc. I am a bit teary actually. Didn't help that dp goes "Mummy's upset as she thinks I forgot her birthday". Nooo... I'm upset as I know you haven't forgotten my birthday, but yet you've done nothing to make me feel special and loved. Feeling like I'm having a proper 'am I being unreasonable?' moment.

I feel like I have to bake my own sodding cake and put my own candles on it if I'm to have one. Aggh. Pregnancy hormones probably not helping. I think I'd just have liked a cup of tea in bed with a happy birthday and a card or present or two. I don't think that's asking too much is it?

Brugmansia · 05/11/2012 09:56

Happy birthday bealos

It was my birthday yesterday. Had a really nice birthday weekend. Spent most of Saturday afternoon in a pub eating and with various friends dropping by, although by 8ish I was knackered and sobered and DP was pretty drunk having been in the pub all day. Yesterday went out for a nice lunch with my family.

One of my friends has given me her old Kari-me sling so I've been practicing tying that using my old childhood teddybear as a baby substitute.

BuntyCollocks · 05/11/2012 10:41

Happy birthday, bealos and brugs!

bealos go and treat yourself, even if its just a nice lunch. YANBU - you need birthday treats especially when pregnant.
