Hello everyone,

I'm v jealous of everyone dreaming as I am still unable to sleep, honestly want to cry I'm so tired. It's not even due to a sore back etc, its more under my bust at my ribs at the front and constantly worrying about my blood sugars so checking them every couple of hours, blooming diabetes! I'm also craving savoury and sweet things which I can't eat as my blood sugars will go too high :( on a positive, haven't put on lots of weight cause I'm so careful about what I eat but am at the stage now where I am beginning to worry about my labour and if everything will be okay, feels so real!

Builders nearly finished and am hoping I can go part time in a few weeks as the combo of not sleeping and working plus managing my diabetes isn't great, my poor husband gets the brunt of my moods!

Sorry to moan, just feel everything is getting on top of me....just wish I could sleep for more than an hour at a time.....grrrrr!

Hope everyone else is doing okay

X

AppleCrumples · 01/11/2012 22:59

Ah newbie poor you. Is there any way you could go on maternity leave early so you can get your feet up for a bit? Think lack of sleep makes things worse and harder to cope with Sad.

Also think aches and pains all part of it from now on. Sometimes I can't sleep as bump aches and I can't get comfy. Currently dd has a cold which is upsetting her asthma so chances are it will be a while before I sleep again!

On the bright side all this means we are nearly at the end and soon all the pregnancy niggles will just be a memory ( til you madly do it again...) x

newbie6 · 01/11/2012 23:17

Thanks apple crumples, I have my own business so think that is why it's harder as my income is dependent on me doing the work and its hard to let go. I have someone part time so do aim to go part time myself its just hard when there are certain things that really only I can do. X

djvesi · 02/11/2012 05:03

just woke in the middle of the night from a nightmare that I couldn't spell and all of the emails I'd sent that day had gobbledygook written in them. arrrrghhhhH! Smile

Brugmansia · 02/11/2012 05:54

I've been awake for a couple of hours, having had weird zombie dreams.

PixelCarrier · 02/11/2012 06:12

Just woke up with leg cramp, just as I was about to tuck into a massive chelsea bun in my dream.

mrsbugsywugsy · 02/11/2012 09:45

Just been catching up on everyone's news.

Wow, congratulations slightly!

newbie you have my sympathy, everything seems so much worse when you haven't had any sleep

pixel what terrible timing

creepy glad to hear your baby is a normal size after all

Lora I'm doing yoga, not specifically for baby positions but just because I find it helps ease my aches and pains, and I find it relaxing.

I am Shock to hear everyone has so much trouble getting a seat on public transport. I am lucky that i can walk to work. However I did ask for a seat on the bus the other day when I was going into town. The buses here take corners quite sharply sometimes so that everyone standing falls over especially shortarses like me who can't reach the overhead rails. So I wanted a seat as much because I didn't want to risk falling over as needing to sit down. Someone got up straight away and was very apologetic for not noticing.

I have finally given in and called in sick today after coughing and sniffling through the rest of the week at work. I feel guilty having a day off with just a cold, but I hope a day of resting will help me get over it.

The good news is I am 28 weeks today so finally in the third trimester. Also DP finally felt the baby kicking yesterday

Pascha · 02/11/2012 12:43

Glad I'm not commuting anywhere. I'm just getting over a cold MrsBug just left with a tickly cough now. Not having trouble sleeping once I go but I am having trouble getting there, the iPod doesn't help - I'm on the bloody net instead of snuggling down.

Had my MW appt this morning at 31+5/40. Bp normal 110/75, Hb 13.8, and Widget is officially Head Down at last, hoo-bloody-rah! Now I can have fun belly mapping this afternoon Grin. I knew all that all-fours crawling and forward inversions were good for something!

I need to get my arse in gear now, nothing is ready at home. Widget's eventual bedroom is a junkhole full of stuff we haven't quite found a home for yet.?I need to sort a new carseat out, sort birthpool out, sort childcare options out, sort sodding christmas out...

Anybody have a suggestion for a not-too-wanky hypnotherapy cd?

SquealyB · 02/11/2012 12:58

Pascha glad to hear the baby is playing ball. Let's hope it stays head down.

As for the CD, I downloaded the hypnobirthing association CD from Itunes and it is not too wanky (as far as these things go!). I tend to fall alseep everytime I listen to it so must be doing something good!!

Need a bit of advice on something. One of my best friends is having her 30th birthday celebration in a couple of weeks in Sheffield. She is celebrating in Sheffield (even though she lives in London) as she is from around there and most of her family still live there. I will be 30wks at this stage and the journey to Sheffield is around 5 hours each way. So in a 24 hour period I would be spending 10 hours in car, have to pay for a hotel, and sort out dog miders etc. stuff.

Non - pregnant me would do it in a heart beat but sitting in the same position at my desk for an hour gives me dreadful pain in my hips and butt and so I can only imagine how bad it will be after 5 hours in a small car! Plus I am generally exhausted, cranky and no fun at the best of times at the moment.

I feel really dreadful but I am thinking about bailing? What would you all do? DH thinks we should bail and that friend will understand. Thoughts??

Birdies · 02/11/2012 13:01

I've got two of the natal hypnotherapy ones pascha - the effective birth preparation and relaxing birth music ones. Seem ok to me (though when she says the word 'vagina' towards the end it snaps me out of my relaxing - I hate that word lol!)

Birdies · 02/11/2012 13:03

squealy - bail! I would if it was me, and I'm sure she will understand

Brugmansia · 02/11/2012 13:10

squealy I think it's fine to bail. Is it likely to also be a bit of a boozy event? Being tired and sober while everyone else is gradually getting louder and drunk is not particularly fun. Why not suggest the two of you go for a nice meal when she's back in London for a second celebration?

SquealyB · 02/11/2012 13:19

Thank goodness birdies and brugs....I am so relieved you have both said that! Just needed a sense check in case I was being unreasonable.

It is defintely going to be boozy, it is a roaring 20s themed fancy dress party. Would have been great fun as non-preggie person Envy.

SquealyB · 02/11/2012 13:19

Good idea on the second celebration front too!

Pascha · 02/11/2012 13:42

Squealy Bail! I agree with Brug about meeting her for a meal in london.

Thanks for the recommendations, will have a look on itunes and ebay later to see what I can get for my pennies.

mrsbugsywugsy · 02/11/2012 14:36

Squealy I think it's fine to bail. At this stage, I am still going out to the odd gig or party in my home town, safe in the knowledge that I can jump in a taxi home as soon as I feel tired (and in my books money not spent on beer = taxi money, I refuse to wait at a bus stop in the cold and wet whilst pregnant and sober!). However I would definitely draw the line at a ten hour return trip to Sheffield.

Pascha · 02/11/2012 15:02

My arm hurts Hmm. Had the whooping cough vac this morning but the nurse was a bit savage. She got it in ok then sort of waggled the needle round as she drew it out HmmHmm.

Thank god there were no flu vacs available today. The MWs blood pressure cuff over a bruised upper arm doesn't bear thinking about...

AppleCrumples · 02/11/2012 17:00

Wow glad to hear everyones bubs seem to be doing well. squealy I agree with everyone else at this point that would be too much so bailing is understandable.

Ds2 just started poking my bump and asking loads of questions like will I still b fat after it's out and can it keep it's cord so I just drink milk to pass on (!). He also declared (whilst prodding boob) that breast feeding seems gross. Trying to explain things carefully but he was only 2 when dd came so he doesn't remember her baby days

bealos · 02/11/2012 17:25

SquealyB I think if the journey is going to cause you pain, then you have every reason not to go.

Where do you live that is 5 hours from Sheffield? (am imagining Bristol or Newcastle!) Think offering up a meet up treat with just the two of you is nice.

PixelCarrier · 02/11/2012 17:30

Definitely bail Squealy, I'm sure she'll understand, and the idea of meeting up for a celebration lunch at a later date sounds a great idea.

I had my vaccines this morning too, but fortunately my practice nurse was brilliant, and I can hardly notice the place on my arm where she gave them as I'm so "well covered" with fat. Sorry to hear your arm is so sore pascha. I'm surprised at how relieved I am to have got them: I think I'm just really pleased to be able to pass on some antibodies to the baby, as I can't imagine how awful it'd would be if it got whooping cough when it was really tiny.

So relieved to get to the end of this week. I had 4 thirteen hour shifts in a row, and yesterday didn't even get a chance to sit down and eat or drink. knackered today though, and my afternoon nap turned into a four hour sleep...

bealos · 02/11/2012 18:06

Do you guys have, erm, proof that the antibodies from the whooping cough vaccine are passed through the placenta? I thought no research had been done into this. Interested to hear more...

Pascha · 02/11/2012 18:47

No proof exists, of course. This is the best they can say:

www.wp.dh.gov.uk/transparency/files/2012/09/Pertussis-teleconference-minute-to-committee-v4.pdf

10.The committee noted that, whilst there is good evidence for transplacental transfer of anti-pertussis antibodies, in the absence of a correlate of protection and any studies on the effectiveness of this approach against infection or severity of disease, the effectiveness of prenatal immunisation against pertussis to protect young infants is uncertain. Antibody levels in the infant would be expected to wane rapidly following birth. Nevertheless, it is reasonable to assume that this approach would provide young infants with some important, although possibly not complete, protection against pertussis, and it is likely to be the most effective immunisation strategy to provide protection to young infants. Furthermore, immunisation of the pregnant women could prevent her becoming infected and passing on the infection to her infant. Given the uncertainties about the effectiveness of this approach, it would be important to evaluate the impact of the temporary programme on pertussis infection in infants.

My take on this is that, given the good evidence for transfer via placenta of antibodies, the baby stands a substantial, though uncertain, chance of having at least some immunity, though it may not last for very long. Considering the substantial rise in cases this year, <a class="break-all" href="//www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&ved=0CDgQFjAC&url=www.dh.gov.uk/health/2012/09/whooping-cough/&ei=4hCUUIqAKcOU0QXbnYHwAw&usg=AFQjCNF6hR9QBm_KlQPrgoZzorrd65I_Pg&sig2=m3L1jmZPVjBHRFRqiqKL3w" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">DoH statement and some deaths in newborns, I am happy to have this vaccination to give my baby every possible chance of not getting whooping cough.

If my baby does catch Whooping Cough before their first immunisations, I can at least know that I did everything currently possible to prevent it.

bealos · 02/11/2012 19:17

This is an interesting read on placental transference (saying it does work)...

www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm6041a4.htm

Continuing to research....

Birdies · 02/11/2012 19:24

It makes sense that it would work, in the same way as it does for the flu jab (I think), but I have the same view as pascha, whether it does or not, at least I wouldn't also have the guilt to deal with if my baby got whooping cough (as I would never know if the vaccine could have prevented it).

If there was evidence that the vaccine could harm the baby, then I may not have had it, but in the absence of anything saying it might do, the only thing we have to go on is the fact that the baby getting whooping cough could be a very bad thing.

I feel really sick this evening (not even due to chocolate consumption), anyone else feel sick sometimes for no obvious reason?

Pascha · 02/11/2012 19:45

I will have a look at that link later when I'm not on my phone Bealos its fascinating reading.

I am getting very nauseous again, put down to heartburn at first but that goes away and the nausea doesn't. It does seem to happen after a big meal chocolate though so maybe I need to eat less chocolate
