Happy Birthday Bella !

I've been reading up on SPD and it sounds horrendous, my sympathies to all those suffering with it.

Compo, glad that the sickness is finally easing for you. I'm hoping for a night out soon with a really good meal but my mum has had ds quite a bit recently so I'm waiting a month or so so that she can have him overnight when we go out to dine.

Lysettes, your boss sounds like a really selfish person, hope your blood pressure drops after you finish work. What are you planning to do with the time off or will you be a stay at home mum for a few months ( I can't remember if you've already got children).

Interesting to read about all these double buggies, I'm hoping that ds will, at 3 and a half, be old enough to walk by the pushchair/pram although I might get a kiddyboard attachment as he still tires easily and asks to be carried if I don't use one. We currently use a Quinny Zapp as it takes up so little space in the car boot. It's useless for piling up with shopping (no basket) but it's just the job for days out/holidays when he may tire but we want to keep going on our walks. We always use it if we go to the seaside as sea air really tires him out by the time we are only half way along the pier or sea front. I've also got a Mclaren Techno XT (inherited from a friend) which is much more sturdy and we used to take it to the shops and back. We started off with a Mamas and Papas freestyler travel system and will use it again initially but it takes up the whole of the car boot. As soon as baby is 4 months or so I'll switch to one of the other pushchairs and flog the M & P. I used to feel odd having accumulated 3 modes of transport but I've read lots of threads about people having too many pushchairs so it seems to be quite normal !

Mandaz, I second homemama's opinion that your dreams seem to be about abandonment. Aren't men such to55ers at times, wanting a paternity test indeed. It does sound as though you are better off starting a new period of your life without him.

Hi to eveyone else and hope all is generally well.

Coriander73 · 26/04/2006 12:18

HK...you could always move to Spain where Angel is a popular boys' name!!! I think Angel for a girl is very cool..:o I have a friend with son called Xavier but everyone thinks it's either Xavier (as in French pronouciation) or Spanish as in Javier but infact it's Saviour...!

homemama · 26/04/2006 13:08

Hi!
Can't help with the sleep thing Cori, as DS didn't sleep through until 15mths despite being put down awake in the cot from day1. Hopefully it will be just a phase, HK's advice sounded good.

Happy birthday, Bella. Enjoy the day!

Compo, with the Phil&Ted buggy, you can have the newborn and toddler, then it converts for older baby and toddler and finally take the extra bit off and it's just for one child. If anyone knows of any others like this then let me know as I'd be keen to try before we buy.

Glad you're feeling a little better, Norms!

Normsnockers · 26/04/2006 13:09

Homemama, hoping you are loads better if your testing buggies etc.

How are you ?

puppy · 26/04/2006 14:21

Hi all, I have not got time to go through all the posts, got to get ready for the mindees soon.

top and hk hope your spd eases

Happy birthday Bella Smile

Mandaz and lexyB good luck with the scans

I've had my consultants appt today, they checked heartbeat and bp alls well Smile. They want me to go back at 28weeks. 2 weeks today till my scan can't wait to see the lo again and to see if everything is ok, and that the placenta has moved.
oh mrning sickness has decided to return Angry/Sad.

hope you are all well

compo · 26/04/2006 14:23

Hi Puppy - sorry to hear m/s has returned SadHas anyone got any tips to deal with acid indigestion? Threw up at 4am this morning because it was so bad!

OP posts:
TopBanana · 26/04/2006 14:24

Hi guys,

Coriander, dd went through a phase where she'd scream at bedtime, I used to stay with her till she fell asleep for a few days and she just stopped. But maybe she doesn't like the cot, think I'd try taking the sides off. Dd never slept in a cot, she hated it. Good luck with it anyway Smile

Well, 20 weeks today!! Half way through already. Back is still killing and it seems to have moved down my legs too. Trying to hold off going to the docs and wait to see the midwife on the 10th of May. They probably won't do anything anyway!

I've got my first driving lesson tomorrow, I'm rather scared!! Really want to learn before the baby comes, don't know if I will though. I've booked my theory for mid May too so at least I'm doing something pro-active Smile

Bella23 · 26/04/2006 14:54

Wow thanks for all the Birthday congrats.....feel like a bit of an attention seeker now!!Blush Grin

Topbananna - you go for it on the driving front. You totally have time to get it out of the way before the baby comes.

Puppy - oh dear, morning sickness returning!!

Compo - snap on the acid indigestion, I have taken to carrying around a packet of Rennies as they seem to do the trick.

All this talk of prams, can't wait to do some shopping. DH and I have agreed to wait until our scan on the 19th before we buy anything. Have to admit though that I nearly bought a babygrow yesterday just because it was so damn cute!!

Lysettes · 26/04/2006 16:57

HK - angel is lovely and wasn't there a girl character in home and away that was called angel???

Norms - am a first timer, so like TopBanana I'm going to learn to drive, go to the gym and do lots of swimming and yoga, and try and get some ideas for a business off the ground! A lot to do, but at least if I achieve some of it i'll be happy Smile

puppy - you poor thing again with the m/s - is it very bad or bearable (I know it's a bit of a contradiction)

compo - i've heard tums work and i've been suffering recently so may try them. that or that foul gaviscon liquid Sad

thanks for the kind words about my boss everyone - he is just very scared as I look after pretty much everything for him, including lots of family stuff, and he doesn't like change! Still doesn't give him licence to be a pig though!!!

xxx

mandaz · 26/04/2006 17:04

Hello

I had my scan today. I think baby is going to be trouble with a capital T (takes after it's Mum Grin) Everytime the Radiographer tried to scan a particular part of it's body, the baby moved so she couldn't see it. Then once she'd managed it moved back so it was in plain view!

The only thing they found was that baby might have a twisted leg but they said it could be corrected with physio once born and possibly an operation. But, it can be fixed and everything else looks healthy.

Cori - I stayed strong right until the last minute then decided I wanted to know what sex the baby is but it was too late so I'll just have to wait until it's born now! I have a hunch it's a girl.

I don't have to go back until 38 weeks now which seems ages away. I'm supposed to see my midwife in 4 weeks though.

Hope everyone else having scans had good results.

RMW2 · 26/04/2006 17:56

NCT Classes - hi everyone just wondered if anyone had signed up to NCT classes as well as the NHS ones, are they worth attending as well especially as this is my first baby?

tassis · 26/04/2006 18:38

Hi everyone!

Not much happening pregnancy-wise here. Definately getting bigger, finally managed to get some clothes today in H&M and had a lovley potter round mothercare with ds who kept asking "do we need a bath for our baby?", "do we need blankies for our baby?" etc etc. Very cute.

Very jealous of all the pushchair chat. I had a M&P 3 in 1 last time that I loved despite the fact that it takes up a lot of room. Also have a Maclaren Quest that I got when ds was 8 months. Used both until a few months ago - just the quest now. Like Norm I'll have a 3.5 year age gap so may get a buggy board, but ds is geting better all the time at walking so we'll wait and see.

SOrry to those who've got SPD or aches and pains.

Hope all scans go well. Ours is next Thursday.

Lysette - hope your last few days of work are better. How's your Mum?

Lexy - how's your ds?

compo - ds delighted in kicking off my ribs too. I used to spend a lot of time pushing his feet back down and in the process I must've bruised my ribs (either that or it was him!!) as they were still sore after he was born.

Cori - I'd agree with HK re the sleep thing. My ds suddenly developed a fear of the dark aroudn 2.5 and would wake screaming. Try to be consistent and reassuring. Really hope it passes soon and you're not too exhausted.

Pia - I went to the Baby Show in Glasgow and it was great. I think it'd be especially good for first time parents. Lots of great discounts and things that you don't see on the highstreet.

Happy Birthday Bella!

TopB - good luck with the driving.

Lysettes · 26/04/2006 20:14

Tassis - my mum is much better and at home again. she has to have her medication changed though, but her heart has calmed down Smile

RMW2 - I'm not joining local NCT classes as they are £200 and we will miss two being on holiday. Our hospital ones are supposed to be very good, and have separate ones on b/f, interventions and the first few days, which I am led to believe is unusual - anyone else?

ps - still in the office, but last day of doing it and have scan tomorrow Grin Grin Grin!

curlygirl · 26/04/2006 20:34

Had 20 week scan today, it's a boy Smile, really pleased everything seems ok, reallyexcited about having a boy and a girl.

LexyB · 26/04/2006 20:44

Cori - never had anything like that with sleeping with my bigger ones but on gut instinct I would carry on as you are. The only other thing to try might be that your DS is ready to move into a bed. Moved all of mine around 21 months ( as needed the cot for next baby ). DS3 20 months still in his cot but thinking about moving him soon.

Tassis - DS is OK thanks for asking. Really spotty but still happy. DD had him today - she is worn out and went to bed at 8! I thought youngsters were meant to have energy. Wonder how DH will get on tomorrow. Probably OK but no housework or cooking will get done.

Had scan today - baby fairly co-operative and all measurements fine and no problems. Had legs crossed for most of the time, but the sonographer did look and it opened its legs for a second so she thinks it might be a girl! Relly shocked as was sure its a boy. Will try and get the same Dr that did it last time to do another sneaky scan to be more sure before I can spend any money.

Mandaz - glad your scan was ok too. Was it Talipes they found on the babys leg. It is where the ankle is twisted and is fairly common and after birth the physios will show you exercises to do and it usually corrects quite easily. Occasionally babies need to have their ankles strapped but not often.

Lysettes · 26/04/2006 22:08

curly and lexy - wow great you got to see and all ok at the scan - makes me even more excited now!

have lost count of the girls vs boys numbers on our thread - it seems to be evening up though?

Bella23 · 27/04/2006 09:50

Curly and Lexy - wow congrats on a great scan, how lovely! Definately making me more tempted to know the sex.

Well arranged with my line manager yesterdaay my maternity leave and the 18th August is when I leave. Am very excited as this will be the first time since I started my working life that I will ever have not worked - very strange indeedGrin
Have no plans to return as would like to take this opportunity to think of a career change.........so from August the 18th I shall be a SAHM.....fab!

HellKat · 27/04/2006 10:04

Morning all.
Congrats to the ladies who had scans!!
Not much to report here apart from stuffing my face with cold tuna pasta ,mmmmmmmmmmmmm Grin

Have a great day all xxxxxxxxxxxxx

mandaz · 27/04/2006 10:53

Lexy B - yes, that's what it was. I'm so glad you know the name of it because I couldn't remember. I kept thinking I should have been more aware and asked for more info but I was just trying to absorb everything at the time. It was a really long scan. I was in there for about an hour and quite sore afterwards.

I showed my Mum the pram I like yesterday. It's very basic, just a pram that converts to a pushchair. It's in Mothercare and is called the Rococo. I really like it and have tried pushing round the shop and found it easy to steer etc.

It seems like ages to wait now until baby is due. Everyone keeps telling me that time will fly and I suppose once I start classes etc it will speed things up but it still seems like forever!

Normsnockers · 27/04/2006 11:12

Hospital midwife has phoned to let me know that the rest of our amnio test results are all clear apparently and I know the sex 100% for definate !

All being well, ds will be getting a little brother !

Hurrah, I like Thomas the Tank Engine and Postman Pat and Fireman Sam. Ds's current fetish for fairies/ballerinas and anything else pink and sparkly aside, I won't need to do girly stuff like barbies and my little ponies. I was never a very girly girl myself and can probably relate to boys better apart from sport that is.

As soon as we hopefully get the anomally (sp?) scan all clear next week we have to start thinking of names that we can agree on.

Last time I had a booked c-section and we new were having a boy and had chosen names so as I knew I'd be in hospital for a few days I packed birth announcement stationery with pre-addressed/stamped envelopes and the name already written in. All I had to do was write in the date/time and his weight pop them in and envelope and they were ready to go.
People were very impressed to receive an announcement in the post within 48 hours of the birth.

Am very envious of people finishing work early with the summer stretching ahead of us although it would be a nightmare professionally for me if I had to go on mat.leave early. I am hoping to be able to keep going until the end of August (even if I just work half days towards the end). Last time I kept going until the day before the c-section although I was only doing part-time (half days) in the last month. Dh and I went out for a meal the night before and turned up at the hospital the next morning feeling as ready as we ever would be.

My e-bay bargain maternity jeans and chinos have turned up so I felt a lot smarter last weekend, not having to rely on the use of trackie bottoms. Can't find any maternity worksuits that I like at the moment but am still looking.

puppy · 27/04/2006 12:01

congratulations norms on your result and little boy!!!! Smile

I also have arranged my maternity leave with mindees parents, 24th August and hope to return to work 30th October if all goes well. I thought I might aswell have a short maternity leave as I am at home anyway and only have the children 3 hours a day besides the toddler I look after who has just reduced his hours to one day a week. This means that parents only have to look for childcare for a short period and also means my mindees are most likely to return to me afterwards. work has gone quiet around here.

The morning sickness is not all bad its just in the morning, I am ok once I have been sick sorry if tmi.

How is everybodys day going, we have blue skies and sun here, its lovey. I have not had a good morning so far. I have had to send my 1yr old mindee home, He is cutting his molars and was in alot of distress despite teething gel and calpol, poor thing just was not settled even when his dad picked him up. I could have cried for him . Bless him.

Regarding prams, DH has agreed that I can have the mamas and papas pliko P3 quattro travel system. Smile

RMW2 · 27/04/2006 12:41

Hi everyone, I am new to this thread so hello! I am due on September 13th and this is my first baby, I had my 20 week scan yesterday and all seems to be fine, is anyone else getting concerned about the size of there bump? everyone keeps commenting on how big mine is and I am starting to worry about how I am going to manage over the next few months!! i think its just first time nerves, i plan to work until 18 august (that is if I can still fit through the door!)

mandaz · 27/04/2006 16:38

Hi RMW2

I'm due on the 12th September so pretty close to you! My bump isn't too big yet but then I'm fairly overweight so it may not show too much. I've been losing weight though so my normal jeans are getting baggy which is great! My midwife/consultant don't seem worried by the weight loss as baby seems to be putting on weight ok.

It's really sunny here too. I went to a nearby village for a walk with a friend then we got some chips and went and sat on a hillside in the sunshine to eat them. It was bliss! I have to say though I really wish I was working as it's awful sitting in all day waiting for the next scan/appointment etc

Bella23 · 27/04/2006 16:43

Welcome RMW2, nice to have you on boardGrin As for the size of your bump, I realloy wouldn't pay any attention, people just love to pretend to be experts about these things. Am sure its just normal, is this your first?

Puppy - glad you have decided on a pram. No idea myself, will have to go and test drive some and see.

Norms - wow a little DS. So nice you can now plan

Well talking of bumps, is anyone else having a growth spurt? In the last 2 weeks I have suddenly got a lot bigger.

mandaz · 27/04/2006 16:52

Bella - I totally agree, everyone is different so I don't think you can compare with other people. My bump has gotten a bit bigger in the last few weeks but not a huge amount.

Since I had my scan yesterday I've felt quite a bit of movement. I think baby is rebelling because of being woken up Grin

Norms - Congratulations! I so wish I'd found out what I'm carrying now! I'm the opposite in that I'd quite like a girl to be girly with (if you see what I mean) I love the idea of having girly nights etc. I really don't mind though and will be happy either way. Am getting really excited now!
