Sad TopBanana. Could it be SPD?

OP posts:
TopBanana · 24/04/2006 10:55

I don't know what spd is!! Off to google.....

Morning everyone

Just had midwife appointment and heard the heartbeat, nice and strong......so LOVE a bit of reassurance!!

Topbannana - poor you, can't believe you are in so much painSad Can only think of a hotwater bottle to help??

Well had my first glass of bubbly yesterday as had the girls round for a birthday lunch. It tasted so great, I could happily have finished off the bottle! Pol - yep my hubby is the same, misses the old me who would be a bit more of a laugh in a pub with a few drinks - not quite the same when you are sitting there sipping a sparklng water!!

Tass - managed some very successful shopping in Hennes, really nice stuff and soo cheap.

Ok thoughts please from ladies who have been pregnant before. I am planning a long weekend in Rome in June for our wedding anniversary when I will 28 weeks pregnant. Now do you think this is wise? As in will I be too big to enjoy traipsing round in the heat? Opinions please?

Hope everybody enjoyed the glorious weather on Saturday

Pia1 · 24/04/2006 11:30

Wow, I have found a site with chatty Mums! Have just turned 41 and am having baby no. 3 (girl) due on 4th Sept. Other two (b and g) are teenagers now so large gap! I feel great at 21 weeks! I now look pregnant as opposed to someone who ate a large lunch!
Definitely would like to use reusable nappies - has anyone else got plans to use these? Very confusing info as I never used them before.

mabel1973 · 24/04/2006 11:50

Hi all,

I am going mad this monring trying to find my keys - if I don't find them DS will not be able to go to playgroup. I can't even get out of the back door and in to the garden! I am losing it!
Tassis - as far as I'm aware mozerella is fine as long as it's pastuerised. As a general rule anything soft with a rind (such as brie) is a no no unless it's cooked (i.e. deep fried brie). The food standards agency is a good site to check if you are unsure of anything - they know what they're talking about whereas midwives and doctors don't always.
TopB - I hope you feel better soon - maybe give your midwife a ring?
Pia - I use re-usables, I have found them really easy to use, but agree there is a mountain of confusing information to wade through and it really doesn't need to be that complicated. There is loads of help in the nappies and potty training section though.
I had some wierd dreams last night - one about my teeth falling out (I think that's quite common? not sure what it means) and another about a flood and fire in our old house that we were trying to sell. I called the fire brigade, but they took ages to come, so I was trying to put out the fires with damp tea towels.
Anyway - I am rambling when I really ought to be key hunting - wish me luck.

mabel1973 · 24/04/2006 11:51

p.s. homemama - i think you should know that I am mortally offended Wink

actionjackson · 24/04/2006 12:48

Pia, just go to www.nappylady.co.uk for all the info on washables you need. She gives loads of tips on washing temp, which nappies are right for you, etc. She only sells cloth nappies that work. The high street only sells ones that leak! I have used Tots Bots and Motherease for 3 years for 2 kids. Would recommend Motherease as they are one size from birth to potty so v. economical. And they don't go crusty in hard water areas. Tots Bots did a bit. (You can't use fabric conditioner in nappy wash because it reduces absorbency). Using washables is a doddle and a joy because you resuse the same nappies every 3 days (if u do a wash every second day). People think it's yuk to put poo in your washer but you just use a paper liner which catches all or most of poo and for really runny ones you can just sloosh the excess poo in the loo first. It's better than putting poo in your bin! My ds was first to be potty trained amongst her peers as a toddler is more aware of being wet.

actionjackson · 24/04/2006 12:52

Tassis - why can't you have prawn and smkd salmon starter? These aren't banned during pregnancy. They don't have risk of listeria like brie and other unpast cheeses. OK, you can get food poisoning from an old prawn but you can get food poisoning from old chicken too! Smoked salmon is cured so not same as raw is it? Btw, avoid Canadian cheddar as it is unpasteurised and it's not obvious.

homemama · 24/04/2006 12:58

Well as long as you're only mortally offended, Mabel! Grin
Welcome Pia, hope you're enjoying it this time around.

TopB, sounds like spd to me too. I had it last time and it bloody hurt but luckily it eased after about 4wks. Def. see your MW though!

Bella, when I was 28wks pg with DS, we flew to Paris for a week. I have to say that I felt fab at that point in my pg. I had lots of energy and found neither the flight nor the heat (Aug) uncomfortable. However, Rome is likely to be hotter. I needed a Drs note for my holiday insurance though. Mine were ok about flying up to 32wks but wanted a Dr to confirm I wasn't about to go into labour. It cost me £10 and he didn't even see me! Unless you're having problems, I would def go. Believe me, after your baby comes it'll be a long time before you have such precious couple time again.

Tassis, where abouts are you? I lived in Kirkintilloch for a while!

Bella23 · 24/04/2006 13:45

Homemamma - thanks for advice re trip, yes think I want to go for it but might check out the temperature as am very much an english rose and tend to wimper in the sun!

Welcome Pia - nice to have a seasoned Mum to ask for advice!!Grin

Mabel - hope those keys have turned up...

pol25 · 24/04/2006 14:02

Had a few more pains earlier... getting v.worried as reminding me of labour! Right from top of bump down in a wave and along my back... So much for i'll cope better in my second labour Grin Oh well, it's gotta come out!
Glad we're all feeling fairly normal now- apart from nearing the size of a small hippo...

tassis · 24/04/2006 15:05

HK, thanks for letting us know about cupcakes. i'm so pleased for her and will go and say hello on the Dec thread.

Can't believe some of you are having BHs already - wow!

TopBanana - so sorry about your back pain. Def sounds like you should get it checked over.

Bella - I'd say go for it re Rome. Last time I felt great at aroudn 28 weeks, but I didn't have heat to contend with. It'd be lovely to enjoy a last child-free break.

Pia - welcome! I switched to cloth with ds was 15 months and will definately do it from the start (or few weeks old) this time. I used totsbots and motherease wraps last time. Great, but I now need to buy something for a baby. WOndering about using terries and motherease wraps this time. My cousin successfully does that...

Mabel - thanks for cheese chat. I've had wierd dreams too though mostly in the first trimester when I was very anxious about everything. Had a great one this morning though when for a few seconds I actually believed I'd given birth and there was a newborn lying next to me...

homemama - i'm in stirling, so not far from kirkie at all!

cupcakes · 24/04/2006 15:47

Hi HellKat, tassis and all. Am very pleased to be pg again but am rather nervous.
Will obviously be thinking of you all in September.
xx

Lysettes · 24/04/2006 19:20

Hi everyone,

hope all well, and welcome to new people - and cupcake!

I have to have a rant. I'm still at work having been here for almost 12 hours. My boss has turned into a complete pig because I am leaving on friday - signed off with high blood pressure brought on by pregnancy but made worse by stress! caused by him! Angry

And he just thinks he's hard done by because I'm leaving for time off that he has to pay for!

he's basically trying to get everything done this week, and doesn't really care how long it takes me.

And my mother has been taken to hospital with an irregular heartbeat - ok for most people but she had this about three years ago and almost died and I'm so worried Sad

so stressed, worried and upset - three great emotions for a pregnant woman all in one go!

lol everyone have a great evening - I'm going to get a cab home and make work pay Wink

Lysettes · 24/04/2006 19:21

and my fingers have swollen so much I can't wear my wedding ring or engagement ring now Sad

rant over, promise!

xxx

Coriander73 · 24/04/2006 19:29

Bella, hmmm...whilst I understand how fab it would be (we had booked to go to Rome in March of this year for our first weekend away sans child..but had to cancel due to my sickness :( ) I was in both Nicosia & Athens at 26-27 weeks respectively last time (with work) & I hated it. The heat is all too consuming & I swelled up as a result. Now Rome, will probably be a little cooler than both of the aforementioned places but not as much. In a nutshell I'd either stay at home or go to Scandanavia!!!! Just my own personal experience you understand :)

compo · 24/04/2006 20:42

Lysettes - sorry to hear you're having a hard time of it Sad Not long to go until the weekend though Smile
I've just polished off a whole tub of Haagen Daaz Cookies and Cream ice cream Blush

OP posts:
Lysettes · 24/04/2006 21:24

I feel rather drama queenish Blush

i am off to cyprus for a holiday at the start of june - so 23 weeks and i think it will be rather hot.... I like the heat generally so hopefully it will be ok - it's just what you can bear i suppose.

hope that's a bit more helpful than my rant! sorry everyone

here's to a happy tuesday, and hope any ailments and spd can be sorted out. it certainly sounds very painful but then I am a wuss.

if anyone needs cheering up, I read the "things children say to make you larf" thread earlier, i think it's under behaviour - so verrrrrry funny!

Bella23 · 25/04/2006 09:05

Morning everyone

Lysettes - what a nightmare pig of a boss!! Hope he gets some bad karma somewhere....

Coriander - after thinking about it I have decided to think along your lines about Rome. As much as I want to go I just hate the heat and am guessing that being a fattie is only going to add to that feeling! Have therefore decided to check out somewhere fancy in England for a long weekend. Perhaps somewhere that does some pregnancy spa treatments as well as would love a back massage etc

Well it looks a lovely day to far so hope you get to enjoy some of the sunshine...

OOH.....now cookies and cream ice-cream....yum!!Grin

HellKat · 25/04/2006 09:10

Morning all.
Welcome newbies!!
Cupcakes- Great to see you hun, here's wishing you a fab pg too.

Thank goodness I've got the physio on Friday. Just as backache goes, spd kicked in with a vengeance last night. I'm now walking like John Wayne (shame it could'nt be for other reasons Wink), wincing and making whimpering noises when I move. Oh well, only 20 more weeks to go. Grin
How's everyone today?
Grey & hazy here so does'nt look like I'll be hanging washing. Where's the sun?

compo · 25/04/2006 11:26

Morning everyone! I'm feeling very happy today. I think the sickness is finally on it's way out - yeh!! I'm 20 weeks on Saturday so me and dh are going out for a meal to celebrate being halfway through and i will be having a glass of vino - can't wait!! Luckily no backache here. But I'm dreading when the legs start resting in my rib cage like they did last time!! That started at about 6 months pregnant last time and din't go until ds came - ouch!!

OP posts:
mandaz · 25/04/2006 12:40

Hi all

It probably sounds mad but I'm so glad it's not just me confused on the 'what not to eat' front! I was so happy to learn I could eat mozzerella and celebrated straight away with pizza! I really do think it's bad that midwives can give you such conflicting information though. It's hard enough to cope with all the do's and dont's as it is.

I have my scan tommorow (20+1) I'm so excited but nervous too. I just want to know that baby is developing ok. Still not much movement although I think I've felt a couple of little kicks over the last day or so.

Everythings reached a standstill at the moment whilst I wait for hubby to get legal advice and get in contact with my solicitors. He's dragging his feet because he's trying to work it so that he doesn't have to give me any money in a divorce settlement. He's even asked for a paternity test! Angry

I had another really wierd dream last night. I was in a car with my parents and my Mum was driving. We were going down this road and there were three policemen lying in the road. One of them shouted and my Mum swerved and ran over his fingers! I kept telling my Mum to stop as I thought they'd have got the registration number but she refused. Then she dumped the car and her and my Dad legged it and left me in the middle of nowhere thinking I was going to get arrested. Hmmmm really not sure where any of that came from but am getting slightly worried about my state of mind Grin

Bella23 · 25/04/2006 14:13

Mandaz - exciting that your scan is tomorrow, best of luck.
Not suprised you are having bizarre dreams, sounds like you are feeling like you have a lot to cope with at the moment hence being left to deal with stuff by your parents in your dream.
Sounds like soo to be ex hubby is being difficult but am guessing these things are never easy!

hellkat - poor you and SPD. Seem to be ok at the moment but am keeping things crossed I don't suddenly get a load of pains in the next few months.

I've just ordered a doppler (well hired one). I just thought seeing as DH missed out on hearing the heartbeat at the midwife's appointment that it might be nice for him to have a go.
Let hope I am not adding to my worries and find it a pleasure! Anyone else ever hired one?
