Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
homemama · 12/04/2006 14:08

Hi all!
Compo, I miss that too. Especially lazy Sundays with DH bringing me pancakes in bed.

Mabel, I'm not sure about which double buggy either. The Jane (or hannay as I was told it was pronounced by the snooty woman in John Lewis) (If I'd known it was Spanish...) looks good but I've been told it's very heavy once you have a toddler in the front. I'm worried about the lowness of the baby carrier in the P&Ts too. The thing that appeals to me about that one is the fact that when DS no longer needs the pram, I can take the double bit off. Need to do a bit more research I think.

Congratulations, Calvemjoe. Can I ask the same question as Bella? I talked to DS all the time when I was pg. Just wondering how I would do it differently if I knew the sex.

Hope everyone is well. I'm starting to feel less sick now so hopefully this time it will go again by 20wks. Smile

Coriander73 · 12/04/2006 14:18

Homemama....pmsl at the Jane / Hannay comment! I have a Jane powertrack for DD which has been fab but obviously need another option for two. I got mine cheaper through contacts in Spain (I work there frequently & speak the lingo fluently) & I remember when I went to the Mother & Toddler group two weeks after I'd had DD, some woman asked me if my name was Jane & had had a personalised buggy made....DOH!!!!!!!!

I think the P & T buggy is too low for baby so think I'll just go with the Maclaren TT & get DD to walk a bit more......:o

homemama · 12/04/2006 15:08

Oh dear, Cori! Please don't think I'm that stupid! I'd only seen it written down on here before as I hadn't come across it whilst pg with DS. If she'd just said, 'actually it's Spanish' then I would have known how to pronounce it. No need to be rude! Grin

Coriander73 · 12/04/2006 15:35

Oh God, HM I didn't mean it like that!!! Just when reading your story it made me remember about that lady I'd met months before......oh Jesus, please don't take offence as none was intended at all! Everyone would pronounce it as Jane unless you knew it was Spanish!! Please please don't take it the wrong way......I was just thinking how snooty the sales assistant must have sounded etc...:o

calvemjoe · 12/04/2006 15:58

Sorry, the only difference with knowing the gender is that I use their name, I know that bonding is the same regardless, I just like baby to get used to thier name. Although a small part of me thinks, this is gonna be one confused baby if the sonographer was wrong!

Bella23 · 12/04/2006 16:19

Calvemjoe - oh I see about knowing the gender. mmm...mind you we are so undecided on a name that there could be a lot of confusion when we keep re-naming it!!Grin

Hey Puppy - sometimes it can feel like you get ignored on here, depends on the thread though as some are a bit cliquey. I tend to avoid those.
No idea why mabel didn't get a huge response on her chicken thread...........Wink

Coriander73 · 12/04/2006 16:30

Mabel, what was the chicken thread about??!!

Cal, what if you change your mind re the name when you see her?!! :o

mabel1973 · 12/04/2006 17:21

wow - I can see you're all intrigued now! Not sure if I should tell you.... Wink
Actually I was thinking of getting some hens in the garden (once bird flu has passed) and wanted some advice. Bit different from a pet rabbit and you get eggs! You'd be surprised how many mumsnetters keep hens!!!
I am a bit put off by the smell and the fact that they would probably ruin my garden, so needs some careful thought!!

puppy · 12/04/2006 17:31

Blush Blush Blush [bush]

Sorry about my last post, I was being very very silly I hope I didn't come across as attention seeking Blush. Please forget I said anything. I feel like I have made a fool of myself now.

Lol norms I think they do have donkeys but tbh we don't bother with them.

Sorry mabel I got mixed up, didn't see your chicken thread but I thik katymac from the childminders section keeps chickens you could give her a shout or search thread with her nickname. Think it was her I saw start a thread.

mabel1973 · 12/04/2006 18:29

Puppy - don't be embarassed - if you can't have a gripe here and feel all hormonal - then where can you - we all understand!
I think Katy may have responded to my chicken thread actually.
I am going to wait a bit for the moment...anyway have to convince DH!!

mabel1973 · 12/04/2006 18:30

p.s. thanks for the thread - will read it when I get 10 minutes peace!

Marls001 · 13/04/2006 03:43

Had DS's interview for Montessori school today ... couldn't believe some of the questions they asked on the form ... "Do you let him watch TV? How many hours? What does he watch? Did you breastfeed him?" Shock What's even more shocking I suppose is that I actually found myself caring overly afterwards whether or not he gets in. Now, though, have had time to think about it... also helped to talk with a friend whose DS had interviewed there - She felt the same way about questions & her feelings ... no one really wants to be "that kind" of parent, who feels personally slighted by some school should their progeny not be deemed "worthy" ... that experience today just seemed weird, weird, weird.

On another note ... Puppy, have definitely felt that way. Smile ... sometimes I think a thread just gets lost in the shuffle, people logging on wanting to "find discussions last hour," etc. Some just seem to "time out" before catching.

Calvemjoe, another anecdote: In the car while DS in womb, was listening to nothing but 6-disc "Best of Modern Rock" set, and loudly. Okay; now DS LOVES guitars, Elvis, Queen, the Beatles, Willie Nelson, even Ozzie(!) - we're not sure whether to be proud or frightened. (Of course, also likes Wiggles. Smile)

MIL/DIL unable to make it for egg hunts; S&BIL adopting from Guatemala & Consulate's called them out for Monday. MIL had already promised to go with. While Sad, happy they're finally getting their baby - he's 9 mos already.

Have a very happy Easter weekend, everyone!!

HellKat · 13/04/2006 07:50

Morning all.
Cal- congrats a little girl. awwwwwww.
Puppy- lol Name one pg woman that does'nt have a paranoia attack hun. I'm guilty of not responding to everyone at once (because i'm a lazy mare that does'nt study every post Blush) but still care about everyone.
How is everyone today?
Had an incredibly vivid dream early hours of this morning, so realistic actually got a mirror and checked "down there". Dreamt that I was in last stage labour, alone in my bathroom and could see (& feel) the head. Did'nt get any further though because everytime I moved in the dream, I stopped needing to push. So there's me, head out, putting towels down etc trying to find somewhere comfy to birth lol. It felt that real that when I woke up, swore thing's felt "funny" down there so had to check everything was ok Grin.
very, very freaky (great though). Shame I never got to see the end result.

mabel1973 · 13/04/2006 08:39

Hi all

Marls - that school does sound a bit judgemental! I have no knowledge of montessori schools. Do you want him to go there because they get good results? it makes you wonder what they'll be teaching him though!
Similar experience to you with DS. my DH is a part time music photographer and we went to numerous gigs whilst I was pg. He is now a great little dancer who just can't keep his feet still when music comes on - the louder the better!
HK your dream sounds a bit too vivid!
Well I had a severe attack of the runs last night - no idea what caused it, but I did wonder if I was going in to labour at one point, it was so painful. I have had an upset tummy since going on this new course of antibiotics for my ear, but I wouldn't expect to react that violently!

HellKat · 13/04/2006 08:42

Yuck mabel!! I've had one bout since i got pg (was sick then too) but luckily it was normal feeling stomach ache rather than being that bad. If you get it again, try & have ome peppermint tea. Great for the digestion (eases my tum when i get bad wind pains).

Bella23 · 13/04/2006 09:12

Morning ladies

Marls - am very shocked to hear that a question on the application for the Montessori school was "did you breastfeed?" WTF!Shock What the hell has that got to do with anything!
Gosh I have a lot to learn about this parenting malarki!

Mabel - oh dear sorry to hear you are having stomach pains, hope they are on their way out.

Ye ha nearly the Easter weekend, just got to get today of work over with and then its time to play. Am working from home today and very naughtily have a friend coming over about 3pm so looks like I might just have to finish my working day early - he he Grin

Well hope you all are having a good morning....

compo · 13/04/2006 09:34

Marls - how would they know if people were lying though?!!!!
Not a great week so far - still being sick and that's making me feel nervous about going out with ds so also feel guilty about not doing much with him - wonder what Montessorri would make of that?!!

Lysettes · 13/04/2006 09:59

Morning everyone!

Much better today and hormones in check, so that's good. Totally forgot to tell you all that what made it worse was the kind lady in pret refusing to charge me for my steamed milk! Made me blub in there as well Blush

but yes - I did laugh about it later!

Puppy - I know that look - I got the "we're not going to spend a fortune on baby clothes so I don't even know why you're looking" look last night ...

homemama - great you're feeling less sick, and I must admit I would have said jane as well (sure I'm a bit late on this topic)

Marls - Wow! what wierd questions - and i agree, how would they know if you'd bottle fed or not??? Somewhere tucked away there will be some wierd justification for that method though, I'm sure

HK - I'm with you on the wierd dreams - night beofre last (and this is wierd!), I dreamt Vince Vaughan was in my dream (of course I was thin, toned, and very pretty!!!) - serves me right for watching starsky and hutch before going to bef Blush Blush

We are being chucked out of the office at 4pm today - Yay!

Happy easter everyone, and have great trips to everyone going away - I'll be in london while dh stuck in the office

mabel1973 · 13/04/2006 10:30

thank you for thinking of me everyone - I'm ok this morning, just tummy feels v. bruised and sore.
Does anyone know where I can get a decent cheap maternity swim suit from?
I made the mistake last time of just buying and ordinary one a couple of sizes bigger, but it was too large round the legs, so when I wore it it was almost obscene! (put it this way - I'd need to make sure I had a regular bikini wax to get away with it!)

compo · 13/04/2006 10:45

Hi mabel - have you tried Mothercare? Although I'm not sure of prices. There's usually a link to the site on the Mumsnet pages at the top

homemama · 13/04/2006 11:56

Just a quicky for Cori and I'll be back later.

Cori, I meant she was rude, not you! lol Grin
Your story was funny and I was in no way offended! Grin
(note to self; must make points clearer on here)

curlygirl · 13/04/2006 12:09

Don't say that about the phil&ted's buggy, I've just bought oneShock

Coriander73 · 13/04/2006 13:44

TFFT Homemama! I've been worrying about that ever since...even told DH that I was motified I'd offended a MN!!! :o

Mabel, I've just now bought a £22 cossie from Mothercare. It's not the most glamourous one you've ever seen but it does go in at the back (IYSWIM?) so boobs feel strapped in as last time I borrowed one with just normal straps & felt very wobbly...:o I have to say though I think their clothing range is pants! If I could afford it I'd go to Formes or Crave....(although I did pick up a gorgeous little green summer dress for DD...don't normally buy clothes there for her either (have had to return numerous things) but hopefully it'll do the job when I take her to Madrid in May :o

Marls, they would never ask you here if you'd BF your baby at an interview for a nursery / school ...I mean FFS, what's that got to do with anything...grrrrrr.....me being me I'd have taken great umbrage at that line of questioning & turned on my heels....grrrrr......Angry

Marls001 · 14/04/2006 01:09

LOL Cori! Yes; I’m like that too. I did ask why the bf question, & they said they want to be prepared as to which of the 3-year-olds might get sick more often Shock… The TV question was just as irksome; I mean, I love TV - without his watching it, how would I get anything done? Grin. Well, DS could get in, but they'll either take me or leave me. Either way, thanks all re: Montessori feedback; glad it’s not just me.

Bella, there seem to be so many guilt-laden opinions involved in parenting; just trying to keep my senses and never (well, hardly ever) fall into the trap of it all. Best if you can, when it comes to your own family, to just have fun playing by your own rules ...

They also asked whether I had any academic goals for him during the upcoming school year. I answered “no,” he’ll be three. More and more emphasis on academics here – even at age 2 (shapes, colors, letters). Many parents have been pressuring their kids to learn to read before kindergarten starts. It's probably overblown; everyone catches up eventually.

Okay; enough! Sorry. Blush

Mabel, good luck with the suit hunting!! That’s the hardest item to buy I think, pg or not pg.

Lysettes – Have a great time in London … & more sweet dreams Wink
