anyone got five children?

I may be mad but having just had my fourth baby 12 weeks ago I am seriously broody again. Feel we may be permanently broke from now on anyway, wondering how Ill ever afford childcare to get back to work but due to 2 mcs my baby feels a bit stuck on the end - other 3 are 9,7 and 4. Seriously thinking about just not using contraception and seeing if a 5th happens. Is this just coz Im nearly 37 and hearing my biological clock for the first time? Or am I just mad coz Im postnatal? would anyone else go for it?

One of my best mates has, she's also single, looks fab and the world is in awe of her. I don't know how she does it.

ggglimpopo · 19/03/2006 20:21

I have five (in fact, six, as have a stepson with us 6 months of the year). Love having lots - the fifth baby just slotted in, and she is so utterly yummy. Another baby would hammer us as we have run out of bedrooms and space in the car...

Lauraa83 · 19/03/2006 21:08

well, I want 5! Only got 1 at the mo but if you've had 4 i'd say have 5:o

I know someone who's got 5 - it's choas but nice:)

LexyB · 20/03/2006 15:42

There are 5 in my house as well - My DD 18, DS1 16, DS2 14, SDD 10, DS3 18 months and baby due in Sept. We too are short of money but i love having a big family. Also wanted another baby so DS3 would not grow up sort of like an only child with such a big age gap between him and the others. By the time the new baby comes DD will have gone to University and DS1 might be leaving home in the summer so we just about manage for bedrooms and older children rarely want to come to the zoo etc with us so the car is not a problem, only have a 5 seater.

bubbly1973 · 20/03/2006 15:50

my sister in law has 6 children and if she was younger and richer she would have another load!

i think for some women the need to have children is always there

if i had 4 and was dabbling at having a 5th id just go for it, i dont suppose one more would make any difference as you probably would have got a bigger car once you had 4, and probably got kids sharing room etc etc

Rosylizzie - you sound like me! I have 2 ds (12 and nearly 10) + dd (nearly 8). I now have ds3 (2months) with new dp (sorry this is turning into textspeak). I am 37 in a few months and wondering about a fifth to keep the new baby company - we had to convert the loft and I'm not sure we've got any room left now - 6 years till ds1 can leave home! (I think the car is less of an issue as LexyB says - we're not altogether in the car that often and it works better with two - especially with a dog as well...) dp would love another one but I earn more than him and I think he would have to stay at home with them (although I would love to!)

I only have 3 but couldn't possibly do more. For no other reason but could not do labour again. You sound lovely and positive though so I say go for it. We don't have a lot of money either but it always seems to work out. Nothing wrong with sharing bedrooms - they learn to get along if they are in each other's way. We have 4 bedrooms but our two sons share and have computer in spare room.

tamula · 23/03/2006 13:25

I would have thought that anyone with 5 children wouldnt have the time to post Grin

Angeliz · 23/03/2006 13:29

I love the thought of lots of kids.
I'm pregnant with my third and i cannot even imagine that this will be the last time i do it!

LemonDrizzleLady · 23/03/2006 13:49

rosylizzie · 24/03/2006 16:35

do tell more ldl - what ages, is it possible to work part time as well, how do you give each child the time they need and get them to the places they have to be - im worried that it may leave them lost in the crowd if I add one more

it's all about dictatorship. Can't have a democracy with that many children lol.

They are 13, 11, 7 and 2 yo twins.

Yes it's possible to work part time, but it is knackering. To make sure that everyone gets to do what they are doing I keep after school activities to a minimum though DS1 13 is able to bring himself home so no problems there.

As to giving them each time, I take time with them as it presents itself. I do go out to supper with DS1 every 6 weeks or so and the girls go out with daddy (on their own).

I dunno, I guess we just get on with it really. Smile

Hello everyone, i have 3 children, ds1 nearly 4,
ds2 2 and dd1 4 months, i have just found out im pregnant again, it wasnt planned and the thought of having another one is scary. Dont know how i will cope. DS1 has autism.

Its my stupid fault.

MrsApronstrings · 06/09/2006 13:32

rosylizzie - I take my hat off to you - I have 4dc - i am one year on from you (youngest nearly 14 months then 4 , 8, and 10). I couldn't contemplate a 5th - though I feel slight .I think a very telling differnece btwn us is that I now know I definaltely don't want more - I couldn't handle it

MrsApronstrings · 06/09/2006 13:32

whippie · 16/09/2006 12:42

I have 3 children ds 7,ds 6 and dd 13 months. Also expecting non-identical twins at end of february so will have 5 kids which is quite scary!

sleepysooz · 16/09/2006 23:42

Good luck whippie, I have twins, but you already have 3 children so 2 more won't make any difference! hope you have plenty of spare hands of help, you'll need a network of family and friends especially with a 13mth old aswell!
