nannyl · 27/10/2012 09:43

my booking appointment was yesturday, at 5+5 (and it would have been last week if I could have made it). (I then have another appointment here at my house at 8 wks (nothing to do with a homebirth, its standard for everyone here)

i think it depends where you live

ohh dillydolly hope you next labour is longer too

i certainly dont want mine any shorter than last time.... i wasnt sure if i was in labour, midwife popped in (her choice to come at that point as i thought said i was fine) and i was 7cm... she called midwife number 2, but 20 mins later DD had landed (un-caught) on the sofa.

we were next to the pool which was too hot to use

midwife number 2 arrived after the event!

thankfully OH works about 1/4 of a mile away and can be here in less than 5 mins

Sams4lo · 27/10/2012 10:04

This has got to be the worst morning sickness I have had with any of my previous 4dc but have found biscuits before getting up and eating tiny amounts all day really help :) I've had one session of hypnotherapy as well and have started the Nevasic/morning well which seems to be really helping :)

Just wanted to share a few things that have helped me, in the hope that it may be of benefit to another :) x

Sunbeam18 · 27/10/2012 10:06

Curiosity - I'm in Edinburgh too! Hi!

CuriosityColaKilledTheCat · 27/10/2012 10:19

Hi Sunbeam Smile. Can you believe parts of Edinburgh had snow yesterday?!

I had a relatively quick labour last time too. I was barely in the delivery room at the hospital when they checked and I was 10cm. I had been waiting in the comfy room before then as they thought I had came in too early.

I would love a home birth, but don't fancy my neighbours hearing me. Luckily both hospitals that I have a choice between here are amazing.

CuriosityColaKilledTheCat · 27/10/2012 10:23

sams4lo what is nevasic? My friend swears by acupuncture, so considering that. I haven't started being sick yet, but the nausea is horrid. Hoping to have a better pregnancy than last time. Fingers crossed it gets better around the 12 week mark.

Sunbeam18 · 27/10/2012 10:43

Hi Curiosity - yeah, crazy weather! This is my first pregnancy so am a bit clueless! What stage are you at? I'm 6 weeks today. Not feeling nausea yet, but bit dizzy sometimes and v thirsty! The midwife service asked if I wanted Little France or St Johns. I had no idea. Do you know which if better, or are they both good? X

Dillydollydaydream · 27/10/2012 11:01

www.nevasic.com/
Found this is this it? Sounds very interesting.
So glad I have no school runs to do today, it's windy, thundering and hailing out there!

CuriosityColaKilledTheCat · 27/10/2012 11:02

I'm 7 weeks tomorrow. Both hospitals are really good. I would chose the one that is easiest to get to. I chose St. John's last time as I live in the west of the city. Didn't fancy the bumpy roads while in labour.

Edinburgh is better if you or baby need any specialist care. I also think it might have a new birthing suite? St John's tends to be less busy and therefore provide better care.

CuriosityColaKilledTheCat · 27/10/2012 11:04

P.s. excuse my grammar. My nausea is horrendous this morning.

thedevilisinthedetail · 27/10/2012 12:10

You'd think on my third I'd be prepared for the sickness by now...in the last few days has increased to debilitating. One I've been sick I have about 20 mins before I need to be horizontal again, then sick. This is hideous. I'm 7 + 1 though they wondered if I was actually further but those dates seen to fit with sickness. My chosen are 3 and 1 and I've no idea how I'll look after them if this continues...

Hope everyone else holding up better than me!

Dillydollydaydream · 27/10/2012 13:22

I sympathise devil. I have 3dc aged 3, 6 & 9 and coping with the sickness and managing all the day to day stuff is pretty hard going. I'd forgotten how awful the sickness and nausea are! I have 2 dc to get to school then my 3 yr old goes to nursery after lunch then pick up for all 3 is 3.10/3.30. I haven't been sick on the school runs yet so that's a relief. Cooking dinner is nearly unbearable, everything smells disgusting.
It will all be worth it though, right?!

EddieIzzardIsOrange · 27/10/2012 15:05

Hi everyone, I haven't posted for a while (work is manic with it being half-term next week, I'm organising trips for everyday so going Alton Towers, skydiving etc!) but have been reading through and trying to keep up!

My nausea is actually not too bad atm actally even without the drugs, which is amazing! Its so awful, I completely sympathise with anyone who is feeling it as its just so miserable and debilatating isnt it?

And nannyl I am hopefully going to be a home birther too this time! Nice to have some support on the thread! Have told the midwife thats what I want and its on my notes so just got to ok with the consultant (and then have a problem-free pregnancy!) and then we're good to go!

Am 9 weeks tomorrow I think, 12 week scan (and consultants appointment) on 22nd November so few weeks off

Has anyone had any results with the peeing on bicarb?!

James feet up with chocolate sounds good to me! Well if I could eat chocolate with vomiting, one thing baby has decided it doesnt like! But do take it easy, have you got any rl help?

DS (21 months) is ill at the moment though, full of a cold and grumpy so not really having time to think about being pregnant, you know? Especially with work too, I kind of catch myself 'remembering' throughout the day!

Hope everyones ok?

DontmindifIdo · 27/10/2012 15:24

hi all,

well, appointment details through for the private scan I've booked, next saturday morning - eek! I'll be 8+1 so hopefully won't need to be the dildo scan.

I'm rather praying this one is quicker than last time, it was about 27 hours in total. For most of which I was throwing up. Can't be any worst, right?

Onemoreforgoodmeasure · 27/10/2012 19:29

I thought I was no longer nauseas and bought a lovely chicken from a farm shop and popped it in the oven to raost. Gawd, the stench! I have deboned the chicken, popped the carcass in a pot to boil for stock, put the meat in the fridge and made a list of veg for making soup and pie. I'm afraid this birds going in the freezer! Bleurgh!!!!!

DontmindifIdo · 27/10/2012 19:50

Onemoreforgoodmeasure - that's a pity sounds lovely!

I've had a couple of days of thinking I want to eat something but not sure what, tonight I found it, it was yorkshire puddings with thick gravy. Pretty much ignored everything else on my plate. Finished off DS's left overs too... [hblush]

BTW - slightly freaky, we're not telling DS just yet, after the MC last time I didn't want to confuse him - however he must have overheard or picked something up, because this morning he poked my tummy and said "you'll have a baby soon!" [hconfused]

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 27/10/2012 21:53

Hi folks, just popping in quickly, haven't had a chance to read everything. Beginning to suspect I may have a urine infection, I don't have any burning when I pee, but lots of pain around the womb area and back/kidneys, and if I try to feel the "bump" its very tender and starts off even more pain. Doctors on Monday, hope they find out what it is! Still bleeding, naturally. Hmm

Hope you're all ok!

flutterby123 · 28/10/2012 11:14

CuriosityColaKilledTheCat that makes me feel much better thanks. I actually missed 2 calls yesterday (one on home phone, one on mobile) both from an unavailable number, so I'm thinking that might be the hospital (well, I know the hospital comes up as unavailable on the phone).
Onemoreforgoodmeasure totally with you on the roast chicken - bleurgh! DH made roast chicken yesterday and all I could eat was the mashed tatties. I can't enter the kitchen at the moment or I feel sick. Although I've not actually been sick, for which I am grateful.
JamesAndTheGiantBanana oh thinking of you, hope the Dr can give you something that makes you feel a bit better.

MummyInHeels · 28/10/2012 15:51

Hello everyone!
This is my first ever post and first ever pregnancy! I'm 5 weeks + 4 days, due on June 26th 2013! So happy I found this thread as I'm the first of my friends to get pregnant. I got married in August this year and have been blessed to have fallen pregnant almost straight away!
Symptoms so far? Well I've been having a couple of dizzy spells and extreme tiredness to the point where I'm in bed at about 9 and sleeping through til morning. No morning sickness yet, but my mum assures me that hers came at around 6 weeks and lasted til 3 weeks before I was born - marvellous!
I'm just trying to concentrate on eating really well and enjoying the pregnancy without worrying as its still so early!
xxx

Dillydollydaydream · 29/10/2012 10:41

Hi mummyinheels hopefully you'll escape the morning sickness. I was pretty lucky first time round so it was a shock when I was pregnant with dc2 how sick I was all the way til 27 weeks plus.

I'm still sicky at 8weeks this time but I'm hoping after 12 weeks it will ease off. I've just discovered wotsits help, they're quite grim really but the disolvablity is great!
I have my first MW appointment on thurs, I'm excited because it will seem
More real but also nervous. I'm a bit worried I'll bump into someone I know at the Drs. I live in quite a small village an everyone knows everyone iykwim? It'll be obvious what I've been there for when I come out with my handheld notes and Bounty folder! I should know this bit do I need a ursine sample at booking in appt?

Hope everyone's ok today?

pinkapples · 29/10/2012 10:53

1st scan done and dusted 7+1 which is 5 days off what I thought but a nice strong heartbeat so dh and I are ecstatic GrinGrin

SpookySparkle · 29/10/2012 11:02

Dilly Cant you just take a handbag big enough to hold your notes in? or just a carrier bag?

I'm super struggling on the morning sickness front!! I feel sick ALL THE TIME!!! I've been vomiting for the last couple of days, morning and night, but managing to keep it to a minimal dry heave during the day. The tiredness is really getting to me as well, because I just don't feel like I can function properly at work. Least hubby is being very understanding and driving me to work every day so I dont have to endure the horrid bus!!!

olimoss · 29/10/2012 11:22

Hi All, sounds like the feeling yuck thing is fairly universal. I've discovered I feel a hell of a lot more yuck at work than I do when at home.

I think that really for the greater good I should just not go into work.

Boyfriend is crossing all digits that the miraculous 12-week-getting-better thing kicks in, as we're off to the Southern Hemisphere for 3 weeks over Xmas (can't wait) and he could do with me (i) not moaning about not knowing what I want to eat but always needing to eat something, and (ii) not having to go to bed at 830pm every night.

I used to be a nice person who liked going out. I've now a moany cow who wants to lay about at home all the time, in baggy pyjama pants. Not so fun!

SpookySparkle · 29/10/2012 11:27

Oli I'm with you there, finish work, get home, pjs on and in bed for 8, zonked out by 9. praying for an energy boost around christmas because I just neeeed to be able to eat my christmas dinner without falling asleep in the gravy!!!

SunnyL · 29/10/2012 11:28

Hi All,

I'm looking for some advice. I need to go to Kenya with work in a couple of weeks and have just gotten advice on taking anti-malarials. Basically the only option is Larium which I've always steered clear off since it has serious side effects of mental problems for a small section of users. The alternative I've been given is to use Malarone which hasn't been licensed for pregnancy but so far there haven't been any reported issues.

I'll be 9 weeks when I go.

What do I do? Take the licensed medicine which could turn me psychotic or the unlicensed medicine which hasn't been proven for pregnancy.

monal · 29/10/2012 12:45

Hello everybody. I am starting to feel sick too which is nice, feel less like a big fake. Went round the supermarket on Saturday and couldn't look at any food of any kind. I am also in bed at half eight and spend my life in pyjama pants :/

Also I think I've found the people I'll be having the baby with; I can't have the homebirth I wanted because it all just seems too complicated in France. I saw an independent midwife last week who would have agreed to a home birth but who I just did not get on with at all, she was dictatorial about some things and a total flake about others. She told my DP he would have to dose me with homeopathy every half hour during labour. I'd probably have nutted him. So it will be in a clinic but they will support me in as natural a birth as possible, and I feel really happy about it. When I was in the waiting room a guy came upstairs to bring back a pillow, and said to the doctor everything's fine, we're just leaving, we saw a midwife specialised in breastfeeding at about midnight for quite a while and it's going really well, thanks for your help, bye, and if they'd put him there as an advertising plant it couldn't have worked better Grin

Also the doctor did an ultrasound and I got to see its teeny wee heartbeat so it's nice to know everything looks all right in there.
