It is vernix.

evil you will get used to be a working mum. It can actually be a good thing for mum and child if you find the right childcare provider and enjoy your work. Both of mine have been in childcare since before they were a year old, and it is hard. The worst time is when they are I'll and you feel torn between them and work, but they come first - it takes a while to feel confident to put them first though. I remember when DD1 was about 18 months old, I spent all night in hospital with her, and went to work on an early the next day. Never again. If work don't like me being a good mum, then they know what they can do!

I made a point of preparing myself, making sure that me and child spent regular but gradually increasing times apart with family for example caring for them, getting used to a bottle, sleeping elsewhere etc. I would pine for them at first, but soon took advantage of the time to myself. Easing them into the childcare environment is good too. With DD2 it was easier as DD1 was at the nursery too, so they were together for decreasing periods to help them both get used to it, and if little one was upset and inconsolable (drama queen) then big one was called upon for her calming qualities (is this the same child?)

I enjoy my work and feel I am a more fulfilled person because of it, my kids are confident and happy, but know I am their mummy, and the time we spend together is quality. I am hoping to drop my hours when I go back, largely for financial reasons, but also to help with the work/life balance.

You and your boy will find a way x

I know things will work out somehow. It's a fantasic life lesson, but I wish it didn't have to be so cruel.

Also my mum phoned to say, her company want everyone to go full time. She can't do this because of a medical condition, and she also has to reapply for her job.
On the bright side she could do a load of child care.

Great news on the house yw

horsey and apple hope you are feeling getter soon.

GT sounds like moving mat leave forward a bit might be a good idea - hope you're not too sore

I had a nice day off. Didn't do anything too exciting but did get most of the bit for my hospital bag, though I haven't gone so far as to actually pack it!
I still need to get the baby stuff out and wash it, but I don't think I've got too much else to do. Still waiting for my nesting instinct to kick in though........

Cacacaz · 21/09/2012 21:20

Peaky I bought a double waterproof mattress protector from tesco, it was only £3.54, the kingsize was slightly more expensive but still less than £4.

GT sounds like bringing your mat leave forward would be a good idea.

Yellow fantastic news about your house.

blonderthanred · 21/09/2012 21:30

Lanugo is the downy hair they have during pgy, if that's what you're thinking of. I think it develops at the same time as the vernix but should go before birth.

TheDetective · 21/09/2012 21:33

Evening all!

Well, I'm officially on annual leave now, up to my maternity leave! Have 3 weeks of FT shifts as extra ones, but it is up to me now, if I work or not! Yippeeee!

I'm not in now until next Thursday night, so I'm intending on using this week to do the last bits of preparation for bambino Grin.

I'm rather tired now though, as I had to stay up this morning after my night, for my AN appt. However I am now relaxing on the couch as DP is still doing a fantastic job in the housework stakes! He has done everything this week, and done the best job he has ever made of it as good as I would do! I asked him how he found it, and he said it was much easier than he thought, and hasn't taken the amount of time he thought either. Also he has got the happy, relaxed side of me that he likes Grin. So all is calm in the detective household!

My work colleagues keep telling me I look really well, and am making pregnancy look easy. I'm not sure if they are looking at the same person, but it is nice to hear compliments when you are feeling the size of a bus :) Anyway, I have to pretend to feel well so that I can carry on working!

DP and DS did a Shock face at me today when I reminded them that this baby could arrive in 3 weeks! My mum did the same too! Do they think pregnancy lasts forever?!

AN appt went well, unsure of babys position still, we are going with ?ceph. I think it is head down, but it is definitely changing positions frequently still! Midwife agreed that it's a tricky customer to palpate! I think I may actually be growing a cat inside me. I'm sure it is curled up, cat style, head tucked inside its body! I'm also wondering if it has 2 heads, 2 backs and 16 limbs!

Booked next appt for 2 weeks time, at home, for a homebirth assessment to check there is electric and running water and then I have my next appt after that at the surgery when I'll be 38 weeks. It's scaring me now! It definitely creeps up on you...!

I ended up going to Tesco this evening to weigh myself, as the scales at work have read the same weight continuously since 15 weeks. Tesco scales agreed with work. So at 34 weeks, there is still no weight gain, with no effort on my part. I feel lucky, but concerned that I may pile weight on after. Will have to make effort after as I definitely need to loose a few stone again. Oh well, whatever will be, will be!

Daisy I have to know, who is your favourite midwife! Nosy git

Passme It is vernix, but are you thinking of lanugo, which is the downy hair that is present on babies?

Epic post over and out!

Peaky1 · 21/09/2012 21:33

What what? Tesco you say? I'm on it...may look into the dressing gown from there too. Was also going to buy tesco's cheapy TENS machine from there but it's out of stock so I reckon I'll just hire one and keep it simple. I won't need it after anyway.

TheDetective · 21/09/2012 21:42

I've just got some inco pads for under the sheets!

You can get them in the supermarket. Mine were donated :)

ValiumQueen · 21/09/2012 21:53

Good old Tesco!

Peaky1 · 21/09/2012 21:57

I got some mattress pads from boots a few weeks ago and regret it for the expense. Oh well I'm sure they'll get used

ValiumQueen · 21/09/2012 22:02

peaky could you take them back? I have been known to use them in the cot or on the kids bed when I have run out of washable covers.

MissMummy1 · 21/09/2012 22:21

I hadn't even thought of something to protect OUR mattress. For the sake of £4 I'm defs getting a protector to save our £400 mattress! Thanks ladies.

I'm really achey tonight. Think junior's moving - unfortunately higher up. Cue lots of breathlessness but also some strange downwards kicks. Does this mean they're breach? I only made it halfway round tescos tonight before decamping to the car. So we have half a sensible shop, half a man shop. DH did however buy a steriliser when left to his own devices. Even more.miraculously he bought the one I had on my spreadsheet. Coincidence or is he actually paying attention to me?!

horseylady · 21/09/2012 22:39

Me neither mm!!! Another thing to buy!!

I've just spent the last 40 minutes crying.....will explain tomorrow when I'm hopefully feeling calmer!!

MissMummy1 · 21/09/2012 22:41

Hugs horsey hope it's not too awful whatever/whoever it is. X

Peaky1 · 21/09/2012 22:43

VQ - I could if I kept the receipt...which I probably didn't. Oh well, they'll get used somehow just like you said.

Oh Horsey I hope you feel better. Look after yourself and junior x

Sophiathesnowfairy · 21/09/2012 22:50

Oh no horsey I hope it all seems better in the morning. Xx

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 21/09/2012 23:42

sunny hello to you too, I guess I know you from a previous thread??? Baby brain may be playing up cos I can't for the life of me think where from???

TheDetective · 22/09/2012 05:07

Hello insomnia my friend...!

Been awake since 4am, needed my first nightime wee Grin easily a 2L job in my bladder!! Shock

Then I got thirsty. And hungry. So I've had 2 glasses of water. Followed by 5 scotch pancakes. Except I was still hungry. So I then ate 2 boxes of microchips Blush.

Now I'm back in bed and DP is 'heavy breathing'. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. He's got those breathe easy strips on for the first time tonight. He fell asleep before me, on his back, which usually guarantees snoring, but there was none. So I was hoping the strips had worked. But when I woke he was snoring on his back grrrr. Had to turn him over 8 times which I'm rather gutted about. I was hoping for a miracle cure!

Wondering if I can somehow get back to sleep now all bodily functions have been placated...

TheDetective · 22/09/2012 06:31

I'm still awake. DP's alarm has been going off since 0553 and he hasn't twitched a muscle. I am in between hitting him over the head with a pillow, or letting him be late for work.

I'm tempted with the latter. His alarm never bloody wakes him up. It has however woke the baby up Hmm. On the plus side, he's been on his side since I last posted and hasn't snored. Thank fuck.

ShellyBobbs · 22/09/2012 06:31

I'm catching up from Thursday with my 'other window' open, so if I repeat what anyone else says then I apologise in advance :)

I've just made a chicken casserole and stuck it in the slow cooker, how good am I, it's only 6.15am! Yes, another night of absolutely no sleep. It's guilt food for the kids really, I hubby usually cook everything from scratch every night, last night they all really wanted chicken casserole but I dragged them to Morrisons cafe because I really NEEDED to eat a cheese toastie with mounds of salad, they had the shitty old kids meals there Blush.

Went to see the midwife again yesterday, still a bit worried about my blood pressure jumping all over the place so have to go back Monday, Friday then Monday again just to check it. My bump has grown 4cm in 2 weeks, and to say I've not been eating due to illness tells me I was right when I though that this little one is growing fast!

I'm feeling much, much better now. Have just taken the very last of my antibiotics so hopefully that's it with this damned water infection. Who knew the things it could do to you!

ShellyBobbs · 22/09/2012 06:37

Had my first major hormonal breakdown yesterday morning, but quite an understandable one. I live right near where the 2 policewomen got shot and the police station where they were based (and where that fucker handed himself in) is basically at the end of my road, I drive past it everyday to get into town and taking the kids to school. This morning there was just a load of flowers outside, I looked and that was it, major breakdown, it's awful here in town. My friend was in the local Asda and a police van pulled up, a few policemen got out, bought a load of flowers and my friend asked them if they were going to Mottram, they were so she gave them a bunch of flowers to take with them, the policeman cried. She has also been to the police-station with her daughter who wanted to leave her sweets and some homemade cards, the desk sergeant said their team were currently coming on shift and he cried too! It's just so awful!

TheDetective · 22/09/2012 06:43

Morning Shelly!

I gave in and just woke him up. Now the whole house is awake. DS, DP, the dog and the baby. And all I want to do is sleep.

Narghhhhhh.

TheDetective · 22/09/2012 06:46

:( shelly, that has been on my mind a lot. Feels so close to home. But clearly it's even closer for you.

Evil fucking scumbag. And I hope he rots in eternity for what he did to innocent people going about their job. I can't print what I really want to say to be honest.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 22/09/2012 06:49

I completely empathise with you shelley It must be quite an emotional time in your area.

When I was first preggers there was a coach crash in France from my girls school a teacher died and even though the girls weren't involved the press were outside the school for two days and it was constantly on the news I was an absolute mess. I know realise my hormones must have been having a role to play.

Am awkward but DH taking DS out or breaky, girls at their dads, lazy around in bed I think!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 22/09/2012 06:50

Am not awkward am in bed!
