dixie oops misread. I thought you had a section in the end. Glad you didn't need one. Still impressed with pushing catheter out though.

ValiumQueen · 21/09/2012 13:21

lane I can recommend you looking at the nappy board on here.

Dry pailing as previously mentioned is now recommended. You can use a wet bag or a bin, or even a bucket if you wash daily. Make sure it is not easy for little ones to get into. With BF poos, I give them a quick rinse in a bucket before I dry pail, and with solids they sometimes drop off, but if not I give them a quick rinse too. Some folk put everything in the washer but I couldn't do that. You can use liners that you either reuse or throw away. This makes life a bit easier. There are so many types. What ones did you like the look of?

Cacacaz · 21/09/2012 13:42

Daisy I haven't had time to teach either, my 2 other (nanny) jobs keep me far too busy. I would love to have the time to teach again, maybe one day Wink. How long ago did you do your training?

WaitingForMe · 21/09/2012 14:53

I just left my last NHS ante-natal class. Felt strange wishing the other women luck and saying we'll probably next meet at the baby group held in the same building!

YellowWellies · 21/09/2012 15:04

Whoop - hopefully (get in!!!!) we've an offer of 12% over asking on our house and will be moving back to Fife in January. So we have time to have the wee one up here in our wonderful chilled out hospital even if I go well over dates. Just finalising solicitory bits and I'll be able to relax. We got a bidding war between cash buyers - so lucky in this market. I'm just trying to sort stuff with solicitors - which with island pace can be a bit stressful...

Also had a growth scan and junior is estimated to be 3lb11 and bang on 50th centile (head and belly) for dates. The escape hatch is still shut despite contractions. Whoop! Lovely sonographer has signed us up for a 36 week scan too - just for reassurance. I love the NHS up here. Our classes were awesome and sooooo good for DH. Also we got to meet one of the ladies baby who turned up between week 3 and week 4.

I think we ought to have a Scots meet up next year when we can all get our legs back together again.

MM1 good compromise on the antenatal - and excellent skills on the chore list. Shame about yer Ma's wedding though. You letting DH go on a dive holiday is v benevolent - DH has only just received permission to go to London for a day next week - he has to come back with Hotel Chocolat goodies...

And whoever said Scottish weather takes some getting used to - wah try island weather. I can't wait to get back to the Scottish mainland for its tropical summers and snowy winters. Have had enough of horizontal gales, drizzles and dreich to last me a lifetime. Grin

YellowWellies · 21/09/2012 15:05

After a mad couple of days I am soooooo having a glass of wine tonight. Did anyone watch OBEM last night?

ValiumQueen · 21/09/2012 15:16

That is wonderful news YW very pleased for you! I will be watching OBEM tonight. I have been watching catch- up and was a blubbering idiot with the episode featuring the lady who had suffered a brain injury as a teen. 'will you take my baby off me?' waah! 'I will teach my child about roads, so it doesn't have to be like me' I was howling!!!

ValiumQueen · 21/09/2012 15:17

I really must shave my legs and pits and tidy my lady garden. I really must. DH is calling me 'fluffy'.

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 21/09/2012 15:21

Valium I've seen that episode - in bits. In fact, each episode has me blubbing!

MissMummy1 · 21/09/2012 15:27

Wow brilliant news YW! SO happy for you both Grin Grin!!!

Re the chores list, yes it was all done. But I have spent all day redoing everything. Not because I'm a control freak (honest) but because on closer inspection he made a half arsed attempt at everything (think plates in the mug cupboard, half reloading the dishwasher and the steam cleaner cap STILL hasn't been taken off!) Grr. He also hasn't done a food shop, so I'm kiboshing any plans he has to go to the pub tonight until he's been to tesco. I hate not being able to do trivial things like this myself Sad. I'm not impressed with the dive holiday, and he knows this. But it is his week off. And he hasn't done any real diving this summer. And it is only 2 days. And it will be used against him when I need to. Smile

Must admit I'm looking forward to a week to myself next week. My sister's coming to stay Monday night (a compromise, she wants to move in permanently now she's fallen out of favour with both mum and dad. Oh to be 17 again!) and I have a few days off to get the house properly squared away and catch up with some friends. Going to spend some girly time with my mum as well before they go away which will be lovely.

The epic car hunt continues. We've been looking at a few volvo v70 estates. Apparently it's a 'dad car'? They all seem to have hideously high mileage though. Do we really need something that big?? reminds self of ridiculous test drive of mini cooper last month...

Fingers crossed you get home for a little while today Daisy.

ValiumQueen · 21/09/2012 15:32

Me too madam. midwife: 'who is going to look after your baby?' mummy : 'I am'

He was lovely too. A truly beautiful couple, more beautiful than the fashion student couple with the 'I made a special outfit for in the pool' lovely little baby.

MissMummy1 · 21/09/2012 15:40

Oh and I second a Scottish baby meet up!

ValiumQueen · 21/09/2012 15:43

Consider me in too for the Scottish meet. I am not Scottish by birth, but I am by choice Grin

ValiumQueen · 21/09/2012 15:44

Volvo V70 is fab. They all have high mileage because they are fab! Great for fitting baby stuff in!

georgee · 21/09/2012 15:46

Congrats on your house progress YW, that truly is something in this market! It was me that was talking about the Scottish weather, and I know I really am a softy Southerner. It took me two winters to get used to it up here.

I've been to Orkney. In May. Absolutely froze.

I'm beginning to think I should start watching OBEM for preparation. Avoided it in last pregnancy because I didn't want to be alarmed but I'm a bit more 'bring it on' now! Plus I don't get antenatal classes either and I find that I've forgotten loads about the different stages of labour and what to expect!l;

georgee · 21/09/2012 15:47

... sorry DD just hit the keyboard as I was sending there, which explains random characters at the end, it's not some new smiley-type thingy.

horseylady · 21/09/2012 15:47

Back killing, I feel sick and having lots of bh today after spending yesterday living in my side :( I feel exhausted!!! I have no idea how I'm going to make it through another shift tonight!!

Peaky1 · 21/09/2012 16:13

Sorry you're feeling crappy Horsey. I've been feeling similar myself these past few days. Want to exercise, sort, clean etc but someone stole my motivation (and ability to sleep).

Any tips on what to buy/use for waterproofing my double mattress for the event?

ValiumQueen · 21/09/2012 16:23

Pound land often have nappy change mats 3 for a quid which might be good for the bed peaky. A few taped together and on a cheap shower curtain. Not too sweaty, and disposable?

ValiumQueen · 21/09/2012 16:25

I feel like crap too. I think it is just the stage we are at. The baby takes a lot of our effort to feed and ventilate, and the pressure on our circulatory system is quite significant. I am struggling to get off the sofa this week. I will be taking over DHs chair soon I think.

YellowWellies · 21/09/2012 16:29

Haha toddler editing - I love it Georgee.

Yep the weather up here is shite - between 5 and 15 all year, spectacular 'blow you over/force your eyes shut' gales, a constant wind chill taking temps down to 2-8 all year, drizzle... but it is a lovely place once you obey Billy Connolly's golden rule of there being no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes'... I can't wait to see snow and frost again once we're in Fife. Speaking of which, as a climate scientist type I would like to warn Mums that we're looking at a very cold winter potentially (if the jet stream stays in it's current position) as a result of the sea ice melt in Greenland this summer. So plan your Christmas travel accordingly - I think we're looking at fishfingers at home before the madness of the move in early Jan. Maybe we'll do a January Christmas like they do in some parts of Eastern Europe (Ukraine??)....

VQ I'm a Scot by choice too. Best place I've EVER lived. I love it.

Also one of the reasons we wanted the baby to be born up here was to confuse genealogists - DH was born in Kent, me in Yorkshire, we married in Oxford - no one in a hundred years will expect to look for the baby in Orkney....

horseylady · 21/09/2012 16:48

Vq I was thinking the same!!! Actually think the sickness was bowel related - useful!! Starting to feel better now!!

Omg re sleeping - I wake with do much shit on my chest!! Takes ages to be able to breath properly!! I can't believe he takes up so much space!! I think hes feeling confined now too though!!

Might need more pillows and some oils for sleeping on!! I'm sorry you feel the same but in a twisted sense it makes me feel loads better too!!

YellowWellies · 21/09/2012 16:51

I recommend lavender oil it has helped me a smidge. I'm also going to bite the bullet and evict DH from the bed tonight to see if I can get one unbroken night which would do wonders for me I'm sure. I also want him to leave his pillows as somehow I love them more than mine at the mo..... He's offered a few times this week bless him - so will take him up on it today.

ValiumQueen · 21/09/2012 16:56

I bought some lavender oil the other day for my nappies. I will give that a go on my pillow. Good tip!

Anyone feeling breathless? I can feel chunky butt under my ribs, and I know he is huge, so I guess it is not surprising. It eases if I rest, but doing the school and nursery run, or going upstairs has me puffing. I have a cold, but no chest infection that I can tell, although I am prone to them.

Bit concerned about horsey with crap on your chest. Do you need to get that checked? Are you coughing up the crap?

YellowWellies · 21/09/2012 17:03

Ok having just said how shite the weather is up here - it's actually glorious sunshine and I'm baking whilst slobbing on the couch. Have got my vest up and over my belly to cool off and I think someone can see the silhouette of my hand on my bump as they keep kicking it! I suppose it's something to do rather than suck your thumb or practice breathing.

Horsey are you feeling cold / fluish? That sounds horrible.

I'm breathless too and on days when I push myself I am getting painful hips. Ahhhh I am now chilling. No more sodding house viewings!!!
