Arnica comes in tablets or cream, it's a natural product that promotes healing, excellent for swelling/bruising. :)

Titsalinabumsquash · 19/09/2012 09:13

I should add, it's best used after delivery to help with any trauma to the nether regions. :)

Peaky1 · 19/09/2012 09:14

Ah thanks Tits. So I imagine that you use it after the birth then to help you heal...down there. Is it better to pop the pills or smother in cream is the next question...

horseylady · 19/09/2012 09:31

It's good!! I'm going to get some today after my mw appointment.

That and raspberry leaf capsules which i know not to take yet but will have in before I forget!!!

Started massaging last night. Christ knows how a babies going to fit through there :( anyway hopefully massage will start stretching it!!! Would prob help if I could face dtd too!!! Think I've closed up :(

SwissArmyWife · 19/09/2012 09:39

peaky I'd say it's better to use the cream for bruising. Arnica is fab stuff.

Another one here with non hairy legs, and mine's a boy! No fuzzy bump though, but I have two small black hairs that keep sprouting on my chin, little buggers!

I'm feeling very bruised around my pelvis, and also the front of my bump is a bit sore, I think the baby may be transverse and therefore stretching everything. Got my 34 week appointment next tues so will ask mw what he's doing!

Peaky1 · 19/09/2012 09:49

What does it feel like when the baby starts to engage? I'm getting a bit achey today but oddly it does feel like it's the perineal area rather than low bump. Midwife did document 'cephalic 4/5' yesterday and I gave a little squeal when she was trying to palpate deeper for the head. I need to (wo)man up!!

Brockle · 19/09/2012 10:22

Feeling sick and exhausted today. Sick note ends next Monday and I have four weeks of work left. I have felt much better at home but know that as soon as I go back to work with the train journeys and walking I am going to feel just as bad. The doctor has said that she will extend my sick noter but I feel really guilty about leaving work without my normal maternity leave preparation. I have 8 and a bit weeks left until my due date and may go crazy at home. In other words my brain is shot and I can't make a decision for toffee. Any ideas?

Your bump drops and it becomes easier to breathe when your baby is engaged peaky. Also the weight of the baby feels low down and you start walking like you are a cowboy Grin. I will never forget getting out of the car once when I was pregnant with DS2 and it felt like I was going to drop him there and then. I must have looked ridiculous walking as people seemed to be backing away.. mind you he was a healthy 9 pounder. Never tried Arnica but may get some in and need to get the raspberry leaf capsules. I like the tea too.

YellowWellies · 19/09/2012 10:41

I think this one is trying to engage - but is headbutting my right hip instread... ow

ValiumQueen · 19/09/2012 10:42

I took Arnica after my last section, and I healed beautifully. The midwife was amazed at the lack of bruising. Just one bit at the end of the wound, about the size of a smartie. I usually bruise for England. I did not tell the hospital I was taking it, just took my own in and started taking it just before the op I think. I must read up on it again. It is homeopathic. I would not personally put it on a wound in cream form. Never used the cream, so cannot really comment on it as I know nothing about it.

DD1 (6) asked me how the baby gets out this morning. She had climbed into bed with me so it was nice and snuggly for such a chat. 'does it come out of a hole in your tummy, or out of your bottom mummy? I explained about girls bits, and said that she had got stuck when she came out of the baby hole, so the doctor needed to pull her out. She knows she had a cone head that was one big bruise, as she has seen the pictures. I said that her sister came out of a little hole cut in mummy's tummy, and showed her on her tummy where it was. It tickled. She asked about the knife, and stitches, then said she is not going to have any babies.

ValiumQueen · 19/09/2012 10:58

Eli (Elijah) seems to be the fore-runner now in the Valium household. I wanted to call DD2 this, but pronounced Ee-lee instead. I love it, and he does too, which is a first. He wants his son to have a name beginning with e as their given names would then spell out AWE. Bless him!

YellowWellies · 19/09/2012 11:15

I love Elijah! Sadly DH would never go for anything like that as it's biblical and he's a raging Darwinist Grin

And Eric! I know a cracking wee boy called Eric - he's a real naughty Viking (but lovely) so the name suits him especially in mischief mode.

I've got arnica homeopathy capsules from boots as friends said the same thing about not wanting to put cream on any wounds - whether a tear, a section or an episiotomy so better to take orally.

MissMummy1 · 19/09/2012 11:15

Had no sleep at all last night. The usual switching between bedrooms in a bid to get comfy. Must have been something in our water as DH had insomnia too so kept me company for an hour about 3am. Snoozed for a couple of hours this morning after taking him to work to be woken up by a delivery man. I can forgive him though, he delivered our carseat!

georgee · 19/09/2012 11:50

Swiss I have no fuzz but chinny hairs too! Was on the way to IKEA recently on a particularly sunny day when I noticed them in the car mirror! Had no tweezers on me so spent the entire shopping trip with my head down.

So the plot thickens! I don't want to mention too much to DH that it really could be a boy, he would really like one I think (we have a DD and his brother has two DDs, so it would be the only boy in this generation - none of us are having any more!). He keeps saying to me 'I know it's a girl, I've known from the beginning', really to stop himself hoping more than anything else! I'm so happy with either - have a sister myself who I'm very close to so I can see how two girls would be brilliant too.

VQ that chat with your DD is very sweet. My DD is too young to think about how the baby's coming out but we have been reading 'What's in your Tummy, Mummy?' which is really funny and it's starting to make her realise what's in there. Last week I said to her 'What's in mummy's tummy?' and she said 'Green'. I said 'Green what' and she said 'Green telephone.' So there's a lot to work on.

I love the name Elijah BTW.

Sorry for those feeling a bit knackered today. This is a hard phase I think. End is in sight, but dimly!

Iheartpasties · 19/09/2012 12:04

we've got the 'theres a house inside my mummy' and its brill. My little dd says 'baby' and points to my tummy. so sweet.

Peaky1 · 19/09/2012 12:08

Thanks for all the advice ladies.

LOL@the green telephone georgee!!

Thechick · 19/09/2012 12:34

Feeling exhausted and huge and not at all motivated at work today. Need to do stuff for handover but just don't want to. Want a day off sitting on the sofa watching crappy tv.

WaitingForMe · 19/09/2012 12:44

DH calls me an atheist fundamentalist YW but I still wanted to ensure baby's name was biblical or similar. As I see the Bible as a tool for population control of considerable historical significance it just means the name is nice and traditional. My name isn't in the Bible but there were lots of queen Waitings.

YellowWellies · 19/09/2012 13:01

I wonder if you're a Catherine too - like me Waiting. We've kicked ass through history. DH is a scientist so can't bear religion - he's not a total fundementalist but on the few occasions he's been made a godfather (hahaha I pissed myself when he was asked) he did present the babas with beautiful hardback copies of the 'Origin of the Species' rather than bibles. Grin back off ladies this eccentric is a keeper and - all mine!!! Wink

I'm not sleeping very well at the mo either. Think my mind is whirring with the house sale / closing tomorrow and then the thought of a move (and well labour in there somewhere too). Also the bellydweller seems to be a real fan of hiccuping at the mo and they are real bellyshakers. Also the cat seems to go nuts every time the wind picks up (which it does a lot up here) and flies around the house like a herd of bison. I could throttle him. Also why do DH's pillows and side of the bed seem so much more comfy than mine. Wonder if he'd let me evict him to the spare room tonight.... So yeah. I joined the 'two hours sleep club' last night too - boo. In the past would just have had a nice tot of whisky to help me off....

daisychain76 · 19/09/2012 13:06

Iheart we have that book too, but the line about the door being rather tight always makes me cringe!
End of my 1st week in hospital today, so Mws have taken pity ang given me a single room with...drum roll...my own Tv! Now if l could only rip out the radiator and open the window more than a crack l?d be sorted!

MissMummy1 · 19/09/2012 13:12

Fab! Just bought a base to go with my shiny new carseat. The couple selling it claim to have never used it as they bought it for a second car they sold before having their baby. Managed to get them to knock a HUGE amount off it as they've lost the box and instructions (not that I would have kept them anyway...). Picking it up tonight - here's hoping it's not too good to be true! I didn't want to buy a brand new one as I'm not entirely sure if we really need one - it's more of a luxury than an essential in my opinion - plus all this baby stuff is really putting a dampner on my 'buy nothing new if something can be upcycled' new year resolution! And I have bought a lot of unnecessary new stuff this year ...

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 19/09/2012 13:19

DD is 19 months old and knows there is a baby in my tummy. Once that idea had settled, when I asked her if she knew what was in my tummy (which she now recites, bored stylee, not looking up, by saying "babbeeeee"), I then asked her if she thought it would be nice when the baby comes to live with us. She looked me straight in the eye and said "no". Hmmmm.

Odd, because she is obsessed with babies. She owns 8 dolls, and they are equally loved and played it. Favourite toys beyond all measure, and the babies at nursery are all hers too and she doesnt let anyone else go near them.

Suspect that she will actually like it when the baby comes, and maybe like it too much. She likes to help us do things around the house. So I suspect she will want to help a lot with the baby!

Evilwater · 19/09/2012 13:29

im not bored, i told everyone that i had to much to do get bored, but....

this afternoon is a choice between cleaning the kitchen or do more data transference for DP.

im currently nursing cup of tea, watching the washing dry.

it great to read that the sibling are excited.

StuntNun · 19/09/2012 13:30

MM I would describe a carseat base as an essential in that it's so handy to just drop the carseat into it rather than faffing about with the seatbelt.

I wandered into Asda today and got a change mat for £5.40 and a breastfeeding 'c' cushion for about £11 so I'm very happy with that. I also got some plain white t-shirts for the boys. I made up t-shirt transfers for them yesterday: the one for DS2 says 'I've been promoted to big brother' and the one for DS1 says 'I've been promoted to biggest brother (it means I'm in charge!)' I've also done transfers for a couple of babygros saying 'I'm the little brother' for DS3. Then on the back they'll say 'The biggest brother', 'The big brother' and 'The little brother'.

DS1 was a complete horror this morning so I'm contemplating Defcon 1 in the Nun family - the XBox ban. I think DH will be as put out as DS1 if he can't play Assassin's Creed when he thinks the kids aren't watching.

Evilwater · 19/09/2012 13:36

why not nun. i was reading the book my DP has been reading for the baby. we are "SHE..who must be obeyed" Grin also pregnancy gives us a damn good reason for being strict.

MissMummy1 · 19/09/2012 13:37

Stunt you're totally right and for me it probably will be an essential - I can't for the life of me work out how to strap the seat in just using the seatbelt and I've been prone to a weak back in the past after bruising my kidneys in an accident 2 years ago so it'll probably be a total godsend. DH's opinion is that if the seat will work without one, we don't need one. Which is fine, he can faff about strapping it into his car the old school way!
