hi all.. NCT report:
First class good - got to know other people which was less awkward than it could be due to us all being from same area and due at same time, and largely same age, don't know if that's normal? Course leader is very nice, very soft spoken but capable of being useful and informative while also making jokes about the awful bits everyone's afraid of, which helps! She's been a midwife previously, so great to have her on the spot to ask questions. She also let us set our own group agenda a bit, in terms of questions about birth and newborns to cover in the next 7 sessions..This first one mostly covered the stages of labour, variation in what it might feel like (various stages of horrendous, they don't gloss over what happens - GRAPHIC images!)and how long it might take inc placenta delivery and what happens if you end up having to have a c-section for emergencies. Also covered a bit of massage for labour (which was easily my favourite bit, and we were spared the whale music!!)

will report again next week..

Been sat in A&E since 4.45, DHs knee has given up AGAIN and now waiting for X-ray. Better than last time, early hours or Saturday morning with the drunks and fighters, just lots of little old ladies and business men!

Secondsop · 12/09/2012 20:43

eggs that sounds rough - I hope you're not waiting too long!

SpottyTeacakes · 12/09/2012 21:21

Oh dear Eggs hope you're not still there!

I'm addicted to mars milkshakes (don't tell my diabetes dr). They're so cold and nice on my heartburn!!

FriendofDorothy · 12/09/2012 21:26

I have seriously been to the most bizarre ante-natal class ever. The woman taking it would appear to be a bit of an island treasure, and came out with some classics such as...

?I much prefer pregnant vaginas, they are a magenta pink colour and I had a ball gown that colour once?.

I massively lost the plot at one point, mainly when I caught the eye of this guys sitting the other side of the room. Apparently the classes only get better/worse!

SpottyTeacakes · 12/09/2012 21:28

Grin Friend that's hilarious! Is it an nhs one?

FriendofDorothy · 12/09/2012 21:29

Yeah, well our equivalent of the NHS anyway.

SpottyTeacakes · 12/09/2012 21:34

Hopefully you will meet some nice people even if it isn't going to be particularly informative Confused

Clarella · 12/09/2012 22:37

You had me choking over my Redbush friend Grin

Clarella · 12/09/2012 22:37

Tea, I don't have a red-bush...

Clarella · 12/09/2012 22:40

Hope alls well eggs, also with you second and they can help you pronto.

Sounds a good class utopian, thanks for the feedback :)

Mine start next week

ISpyPlumPie · 12/09/2012 23:15

Sounds like an interesting class Friend - I wonder what insights she'll share with you next time!

Went to a home birth group tonight. Spoke to one of the mws in lots of detail about the 'what ifs' that had been worrying me and feel confident now it is the right choice for us. Think DH found it all v reassuring to esp realising that quite a few of the other dads had anxieties about being in a non-medical setting too. Just need to keep our fingers crossed that this LO is a bit keener to make an entrance than big brother was so don't end up missing out on hb because of another induction....

SpottyTeacakes · 13/09/2012 07:27

Re constipation: baked beans definitely cure me Blush Grin I thought it was a coincidence but it appears not. Taste better than Fybogel too!

PurplePidjin · 13/09/2012 08:03

Dried fruit on cereal every morning here Wink

SpottyTeacakes · 13/09/2012 08:08

Oh pidj much healthier! I don't like milk (unless it's chocolate) so don't really eat cereal. Not very nice dry!

Maximum of 13 weeks lefts eek!!

PurplePidjin · 13/09/2012 08:12

Shreddies. Sultanas. Chocolate milk. Yummy! Or pouring yoghurt, like in eastern Europe :)

I use the slow cooker a lot, so generally chuck lentils/tin of mixed beans/chick peas in with whatever's in that!

FriendofDorothy · 13/09/2012 08:45

Fybogel has been my saving grace. One sachet of that with breakfast seems to be keeping everything in check.

Queenofsiburbia · 13/09/2012 09:30

Morning!

Grin at ball gown coloured vag's & giggling over redbushes... We'll believe you clarella Wink

utopian thanks for a description of NCT, mine don't start til October. I hope leader is as sensible as yours & that there's also no whale music! Maybe won't tell DH how graphic it is as he's utterly squeamish (about humans... Happily help a cow or sheep give birth but passes out at his own blood test Hmm )

Coming down with a nasty snotty cold from DH (who has tajen every medicine under the sun for it) in time for anniversary / last pre-baby holiday fling in Rome. Pray it's not absolutely sweltering! Although sun will be nice.

Stupid immune system...

Oh, 28 week midwife appointment this week was nice. Baby upside down and getting ready to come out

gilsbubbles · 13/09/2012 09:40

Meltdown before leaving the house this morning cause I couldn't find my trousers....now I'm fighting back the tears with some work issues that I'd normally take in my stride.....booking my space on the sobbing soda for this evening. Bloody hormones Sad

Secondsop · 13/09/2012 09:53

Morning! I haven't had constipation at all apart from at the very start - feel v fortunate on that front.

The GP rang me this morning, he's been chasing up the physio appointment and said that if I go to the hospital they can fit me for a support belt. I'm very pleased with how he's got onto it.

Clarella · 13/09/2012 10:03

Oh dear gils, I made my first pudding in the finally working oven last night, rhubard crumble, save you some with cream. here's hoping hormones doing something useful for baby other than upsetting mummy.

I have a healthy prune addiction but in some circumstances even that doesnt work! Spotty, my aunt and a friend both seemed to watch the same prog earlier in the year which looked at 'things you think are unhealthy but actually aren't' and apparently baked beans on wholemeal toast gives you a complete source of protein and lots of other things too so fart eat away merrily! this soup always seems to really really help me, plus mega yummy with a cream cheese sandwich. (tend to stick to half a can though or its a little explosive!)

And boiled beetroot :)

.... which, as all the athletes swear by beetroot, and bang goes the theory proved did improve stamina, I'm thinking might be good to eat during early labour. I'm such a media sucker. Doubt I'll care/ remember!

Hope all have good days xx

EggsMichelle · 13/09/2012 10:17

My breakfast consists of fruit and fibre mixed with coco pops, makes the banana easier to swallow (I hate banana). Anything else and there is no movement at all!

The NCT groups sound too funny for me to take seriously, i will have ignored all the important stuff and still be giggling about that dress, makes me think of Lady GaGa's meat dress!

Back to the fracture clinic with DH this morning, there was too much swelling on the X-ray to see anything but he does have another very fetching pair of crutches. The last pair I had to make cushions on the hand rests to stop him getting blisters!!!

PurplePidjin · 13/09/2012 10:44

Michelle, blend a banana into half a pint of milk and add as much hot chocolate powder as you can physically force in Wink

Stacks · 13/09/2012 10:54

I do a big bowl of fruit and fibre every morning, and not had any trouble with constipation at all. I've been getting indigestion and reflux more and more recently though. I'm hoping it doesn't get too much worse, at least, not too quickly.

Is it really only 13 weeks to go? Also, did I read somewhere it's (now less than) 100 days till Christmas?

SpottyTeacakes · 13/09/2012 11:12

Yes Grin I love Christmas!! Well I'm 25 weeks today and won't go past 38 weeks Grin
