Also we have never put locks on any cupboards/toilet seats etc just have gates

kate2boysandabump · 28/09/2012 06:57

Info here about the whooping cough vaccine. I was speaking to my mum about this yesterday and she's horrified it's making a comeback. I couldn't be vaccinated as my brother had a reaction to it, so I had whooping cough and she says it's the worst thing I ever had. Whether or not to have it is a personal choice, but I'll definitely be having it.

Had a super night's sleep and feeling much better this morning, hope everyone else is doing ok Smile

Bellaboo123 · 28/09/2012 06:57

It's on the news it's an extra jab they want anyone who is between 28w and 30w pregnant to have it as there is a whooping cough epidemic and if we have it it'll protect the baby

HoneyMum21 · 28/09/2012 07:00

Only day off work and wriggly baby has decided its time to wake up anyway Grin good practise I guess!

Moses basket will go at the foot of our bed as there isn't room on my side. We haven't got a spare bed in his room but do have one in the study of DH needs a decent night's sleep. If I need to sleep in his room when he's born I'll just wrap myself in the spare duvet and lie on the floor I guess.

Have had lots of recommendations to get a digital in ear thermometer - does it have to be a special baby one or can we get one that will cover the whole family/work for years to come?

HoneyMum21 · 28/09/2012 07:01

And eeeeeeeeek. 4d scan this afternoon Grin Grin Grin

PurplePidjin · 28/09/2012 07:21

Consultant this morning, fingers crossed he's grown out of it! Have fun, Honey :)

I will find room for a bed for dn, he loves coming to stay (he's 5) and is so excited about being the Big Cousin. I don't want him feeling pushed out, though, it's hard enough for dsil to pay him attention while caring for dniece that it's a really high priority for him to have space here for holidays iyswim.

Hi all

Been lurking due to probs with phone & hard to log in.
Big hello & to new people.

Sorry for not responding to your kind words re my chest infection clarella it's finally gone (after 3 weeks). On similar subject....

Re. whooping cough, just listened to radio 4 & a professor advised that pregnant women get the vaccine specifically to protect babies up to 2 months (at which point the babies usually get their own vaccination). Also, that the innoculation doesn't last that long so even if you already had it previously, you should get it again.
Looks like I will be a pincushion next week as am getting flu jab too!

I've been getting burning / shoooting pains down legs from pelvis when in bed (agonising, wakes me up) sounds like SPD?

Hope all those splashing in floods are ok, sounds like tomorrow might be nice day :)

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 28/09/2012 08:01

Morning everyone, I haven't been offered a whooping cough jab and as I'm not seeing a midwife until 34 weeks I doubt I will be!

As for babies bed we have a modes basket downstairs for daytime and a rocking crib in our room on my side. There's no point putting it DHs side as he's not going to be able to feed, if I need him to wake up I'll poke him! There's no room for a bed in babies room either (it's 7' by 6') so if he really needs sleep he'll be on the sofa!

As for in ear thermometers we have a nurofen one, not specifically for babies and it is still going strong after 8 years. They are fab because the child/baby doesn't even need to be awake to have their temp taken. (ours sings too so after the first few times they like having it done too!)

I am soooo tired this week. Thank god it's nearly the weekend! Had to drag the kids out of bed too, they weren't overly impressed Grin

knottyhair · 28/09/2012 08:02

Honey, hope the scan goes well, and your consultant appt Purple.

I think they're offering the whooping cough jab even if you had the jab as a child, as they can't vaccinate the baby until 8 weeks old, and the babies who have died were younger Sad, the idea being that they will be protected from birth via our jab whilst in utero.

Queenofsiburbia · 28/09/2012 08:06

Also, vaccination is recommended for between 28 & 38 weeks pregnant apparently.

Clarella · 28/09/2012 08:25

I'm sure fine utopian, ill ask her first if u prefer.

DH and I were awake together in the night and he said about the vaccination. Immunity does wear off and as said its to pass on immunity to protect baby in womb. DH seemed to find thru Dr Google its a 'no brainer' while I read about Jamie Oliver 15 mins book Confused (but hey check out my non anxiety!) The epidemic is world wide and really quite a major one plus a really horrid thing for babies to get. The health protection agency website (hpa) is very good indeed and I used it for slapped cheek guidance. They publish stats etc plus advice. It is a personal thing but I'm going to do it. Imo we're the lucky ones, my friend is 39 wks so prob doesn't qualify. Id phone gp Stacey if you want one?

I think we're using the cot beside the bed but not got it yet so will have to see - a friends giving us her brio bedside cot so will have to see how it fits. I had also thought about a single or child's bed in nursery; we do have a spare room but it will need doing up at some point n we won't manage before baby.

Nct was a hoot - girl is quite funny and collection of cheeky dads even funnier. We 'assumed relaxing positions ' that might help in labour, she turned lights down and talked us through a relaxation thing to which someone commented she should do an 0800 number. It was all about oxytocin etc - we planned our ideal labour environment (all included box set dvd!) While they planned a 'romantic night'. The woman point blank refused to show us what they'd written. Then sharp turn into changing a nappy full of marmite, pesto or mustard.

Good luck for scans and appointments! How exciting honey!

Clarella · 28/09/2012 08:27

I was wondering if theyd do the jab it at same time as flu jab, my gp seems to be putting a clinic on for 2 days that you can drop into?

PurplePidjin · 28/09/2012 08:30

I'm seeing the real Dr (paediatrician, i think?) in less than 3 hours, as well as the senior midwife, so I'll get us some proper info if you like sceptical of media spin

Queenofsiburbia · 28/09/2012 08:36

Ha ha at pesto nappies! Does sound funny & am now quite looking forward to my classes which start next week.
(although DH will certainly fail romantic test- he hasn't made me a meal, not even breakfast, since we met!)

Very pleased all is going well for you clarella and that your worries and health concerns have been put to rest. Well done for calm 'jamie oliver' reaction!

Anyone else feel like bump not quite big enough for the baby? Confused I can always feel head / bump / back lump sticking out like its abit cramped! Only 30 weeks... Gulp!

Clarella · 28/09/2012 08:59

Good you're feeling better queen! I think the romantic night was to try to get dads to make the first stages of labour as relaxing as possible and she likened it to a romantic evening to get the oxytocin going (including sex). I just thought yeah, no so easy the second time with a toddler! But I think it tends to go quicker then? She likes to emphasise how much better off you are at home for the first stage/s and how much the hospital won't want to know till a certain stage so what to do to help relax at home.

The hpa have been reporting on the whooping cough for months, I think the media campaign is simply cos they now have the vaccine stocks for pregnant women so need to get word out. So really, we don't need to worry at all. A friend of my mum's in Scotland in her 40's had it in may and now seems to have developed a post viral/bacteria syndrome type thing and is still very ill. We all may well have had it as adults as a milder but long lasting cough (have had loads from school) but I reckon best to be on safe side. I think there's been more cases in one month than in the whole year of the last outbreak. Be interested to know consultants opinion pidg though in my experience they are much more laid back than anyone else!

Oops dunno how did twice

Stacks · 28/09/2012 09:13

Hmm, whooping cough vaccine for all pregnant ladies, available from Monday.

I slept terribly last night, and will be phoning the physio today! I can usually sleep about 4hrs before the pain from my back/hips wakes me up. Last night it was almost instant pain. Spent the whole night tossing and turning to get comfy :(

Stacks · 28/09/2012 09:13

Oops, I missed a whole page of posts!

Flumpy2012 · 28/09/2012 09:53
