Prunella, I thought the skin just above my belly button had gone grey/blue a couple of weeks ago, then decided it was possibly just a shadow. It seemed to come and go depending on what position the baby was in. Green sounds a bit more unusual though, maybe worth showing the midwife?

Is it really really really necessary to wash new baby clothes before using them? I know people say you should but it sounds a bit non-essential to me. I'm washing what I buy second hand but would like to keep new ones returnable if the baby comes out huge!

Flumpy2012 · 25/09/2012 16:23

Think the washing is just advised because of chemicals/starch used on new clothing and they have delicate new born skin.

Totally understand about being able to return though - annoying. x

Hi ladies. Does anyone else have a support belt for SPD? The hospital gave me one but my pain is really around my lower back. I'm not sure it's helping, but then I haven't really walked in it (I haven't really been able to walk much). I was told that it shouldn't really be worn when lying or sitting (and in fact i just tried to wear it while lying on my left side on the sofa and it started to hurt and the baby started kicking like mad). Will it take a while to find the best way to wear it?

SpottyTeacakes · 25/09/2012 16:31

I've locked myself out of the house and dd has no trousers on. Not sure this week could get any worse Sad

knottyhair · 25/09/2012 16:40

Secondsop, SPD sounds really horrible. Sorry, I've got no experience personally, hopefully someone else will be along with some advice.

Oh no Spotty!! Have you got a neighbour you can go to?

Clarella · 25/09/2012 16:45

Cripes honeymum, I heard about evacuations, any more news? Hope all ok. Lots of chatter about closed roads on metro and I wondered if some schools had been closed early as kids were about from 2. I really want to keep that mw!

Something seemed to click today and I actually scouted/ bought some bits for bag however got in a pickle (probably why putting off!) John Lewis baby new born is 8 to 12 lb but boots newborn was up to 9.9lb - I got bits in both (bizarrely getting large discounts on both) but how do you judge?! Also, is it worth getting long sleeve vests (for eg sleeping in covering arms) or just short sleeve vests to then pop a baby grow with feet over the top?! Or just get bits of everything!? Nct had us trying to work out how to put a baby to bed and confused matters further with a 'tog' list of all the different combos which has further confused me! Plus she said not to use a sleep bag till a little older.... argh it can't be this confusing!? I'm estimating a 7 - 7.5 lb baby .....!

Maybe that's why mothercare exists....

Oh yes and do I aim for black nightwear for hospital/ labour? Black baggy t-shirt if can't get a pool? How many? How many get ruined?! Am I over thinking?!

Sorry not sure either secondsop - sorry to hear its so bad. Oops spotty, hope its not raining there? Def go to a neighbour

SpottyTeacakes · 25/09/2012 16:46

Nope Sad no one is in and they're all weird anyway if I'd left a bigger window open then we'd be ok! Dp won't be back for a while and dd is getting hungry

knottyhair · 25/09/2012 16:48

How long do you have to wait for your DP my love??

SpottyTeacakes · 25/09/2012 16:52

Probably I only half an hour, I hope!

knottyhair · 25/09/2012 17:18

Hope he comes soon and the rain stays away xx

MaMaPo · 25/09/2012 17:19

Count your blessings, Spotty - last time I locked myself out I was the one without any pants on.

Secondsop · 25/09/2012 17:21

Oh dear honeymum hope all is ok evacuation / flood wise.

clarella I was going to ask for hospital nightwear for my birthday. I know that if I have a Caesarian I'll prob have to wear a hospital gown so that they can access my back for the anaesthetic so I was going to ask for a couple of sets of nighties and pyjamas in case I'm in for a few days, including a nightie that I can wear for the earlier stage of labour itself and all the way through in the event of a vaginal birth. I do have a set of dark purple pyjamas that are quite big on me so will do for afterwards.

SpottyTeacakes · 25/09/2012 17:35

We're in! Thank goodness for Peppa Pig and YouTube Grin

EggsMichelle · 25/09/2012 17:44

Oh wow, I can't remember anything I have read, except that its very damp everywhere, time to get the wellies out!

Clarella · 25/09/2012 17:44

So am I being a bit disaster movie ish thinking everything will have to be thrown away cos ill leak everywhere?! I can take some of my normal stuff in (mind you most of that is mother, grandmother and aunt cast offs anyway and a little grannyfied.)

Great news spotty!

Honey I keep hearing random tail ends on radio 4 news about your area - hope all is ok and the bbc are just doing their usual token northeastern tales to keep the north south balance happy.

emilyeggs · 25/09/2012 17:46

Grin mama that did make me chuckle

Secondsop · 25/09/2012 17:48

clarella I don't think I've ever thrown away anything that I've bled on, and I have extremely heavy periods. A bit of vanish spray and a wash and even white pants come out completely clean.

emilyeggs · 25/09/2012 17:49

Really fancy a glass of red wine :(

emilyeggs · 25/09/2012 17:50

My post sounds strange after yours second. It wasn't there when I was typing

SpottyTeacakes · 25/09/2012 17:50

I only had to throw out my grey tracksuit bottoms because, although dp took them home, he didn't wash them and they were still in a carrier bag when I came home nearly a week later Hmm

EggsMichelle · 25/09/2012 17:58

Hmm red wine and dirty knickers... Eew!!!

Blood doesn't come out of cheep water proof coats, so don't wear one of those during labour. Can a maternity pad catch your waters? Cause wearing one until you get to the point when you don't want clothes on should save pjs shouldn't it? I think I am going to bury my head in the sand for the next 10wks, I'm a little bit in denial that I am having this child, and scared to death it won't like me Sad

Clarella · 25/09/2012 18:07

Lol Emily eggs!

HoneyMum21 · 25/09/2012 18:22

Thanks for all your well wishes everyone. We've managed to stay put so far and the river seems to be going down a little so as long as the rain doesn't get too heavy again (touch wood) we should be ok now.

Clarella - it's fairly accurate on the news at the min- there's quite a lot of damage in some parts.

coffeeandcream · 25/09/2012 18:24

Evening everyone,

So I'm burried under the duvet on the sofa watching supernanny (is she thought of as ok on MN? or is she the devil?!)

I also still have a 'innie' belly button, but I did have to take out my belly bar a few months ago.

I'm in the organised camp too, got most studd now except a baby monitor, room thermometer and bath things.

My NCT classes start next week - who else has signed up?

C&C

emilyeggs · 25/09/2012 18:34

coffee I love super nanny! Shall be using tips myself
