Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Spotty, I can honestly say its the most rewarding thing u'll ever do for ur child. If u can do it, u should. Its the one thing a mum can do that no-one else can for ur child. That said tho, it is not for everyone, that's just my experience and I have absolutely no issue with those who chose to bottle feed or similarly have to bottle feed. Its not for everyone but the benefits to mum and baby r good - weight loss for mum, bonding, no bloody sterilising or heating bottles, and obviously ur giving baby what nature intended. It is hard at first, I very nearly gave up with dd but it was worth it longterm and I really believe if u can and want to, u most definately should. Ps i'm not a breast feeding militant so pls don"t anyone get offended, its pirely my opinion!!!

minipie · 20/09/2012 18:25

mwah I think the cabbage leaves are supposed to help with breast engorgement but not sore nipples from what I've read.

I have read advice to toughen up the nipples before birth, by rubbing with a rough towel or something similar Shock not sure I can face that... anyone tried it??

spotty remember people only ever post the bad stories, no-one ever comes on the internet to say they had no issues and it was all easy! As well as being easier like mwah says, it's a lot cheaper than formula and an excuse to eat cake Wink. Even if I can only manage the first week or so that's still a benefit so my plan is to give it a go, if I can't then I can't but at least I'll have tried.

SpottyTeacakes · 20/09/2012 18:26

I think I'm more worried it will effect dd as obviously I have to consider her too and if I'm spending all my time struggling to bf it's not going to make her happy! Hopefully I'll be one of the lucky ones!

SpottyTeacakes · 20/09/2012 18:28

That's what I'm thinking minipie I expressed for dd whilst she was in SCBU and I remember being very Shock when there was blood in the milk!

Hmm I like my towels soft so that might not work for me!

EggsMichelle · 20/09/2012 18:50

I'm torn, home alone tonight (DH working away) and although I'm not hungry, I've also not had any tea (filled up on cake at work). Do I go without, cause I've clearly eaten enough today, go to tesco and buy a yummy curry, or order pizza?

SpottyTeacakes · 20/09/2012 18:54

Pizza. Then you can pick and eat it cold later, I bet you will be starving in a couple of hours!

EggsMichelle · 20/09/2012 18:59

Very true Spotty and since DH ate my lunch for tomorrow (nob!) I will need something for my lunch box tomorrow! Pizza it is, and since I can't be arsed to go out, I'll have it delivered.

Saphiesgirl · 20/09/2012 19:41

Please don't attack your nipples! They don't need any toughening at all. I help people to bf (promise not a nazi about it). And know how hard it can be for some- not everyone. If you're in any pain, get breast feeding network, NCT, la leche league or or ther help. There's millimetres between ouch and no pain. As others said, it's not for everyone but the best for your baby's health and your time!
Please don't be offended by my sudden reappearance, was away in summer then had hands full with going back to school. Didn't have anything interesting to report so been lurking for a few days. Unfortunately Ive had a couple of days off work so even catching up. Had pre eclampsia with ds 1 and my bp suddenly started to climb. Trying to to panic, only 26 weeks and no intention of meeting baby for a while yet.

SpottyTeacakes · 20/09/2012 19:58

Eek Saphie I had pre-eclampsia with dd and it's a bit of a worry isn't it? Ate you on aspirin?

MyDaydream · 20/09/2012 20:43

All this talk of scary shopping is, well, scaring me. I imagine I'll be putting off buying nipple cream until birth is imminent! I've not put much thought to breastfeeding yet, I'm going to do it that's as far as I've got. I'm not reading anything that'll put me off, only happy stories!
Eggs I got a lot of response with my Springsteen and Bob Dylan impressions, he was dancing away. I'd go with pizza, although I might select curry for myself only because the pizza places in my village are rubbish.

Saphiesgirl · 20/09/2012 20:54

Hey spotty, I am on aspirin and trying to eat well, excercise etc but it's hard not to be neurotic when having loads of Braxton hicks. Every little twinge sends me into a quivering wreck! " must relax" repeated several times a day!

CODwidow · 20/09/2012 21:28

So so thirsty! I must have drank a small river this week

Barbeasty · 20/09/2012 21:35

I'd recommend finding your local breast feeding support group and going along before the birth if you can.

It's so much easier when you're in agony and haven't slept, if you know where you're going and have met people before.

Not that you'll necessarily be in agony, but my goodness- at one point I looked as though DD had bitten a chunk out of my nipples Shock But I got over it and only stopped feeding her a few months ago (just beyond 2yrs).

Bellaboo123 · 20/09/2012 21:36

Really sore lower back...hope it's not like this for the next 12 weeks...Sad

cherrypiew3 · 20/09/2012 22:30

Glad to hear that test results have come back ok.

Stacey hope your feeling better and have enjoyed your meal.

Have my 28 week appointment with mw and GTT tomorrow. I am so very tired and my back and legs ache, had a bath tonight my back hurts that much that I could not even get out. I am so very happy to be having another dc and would not change it for the world but I have to admit that I am hating this pregnancy.

Hope everyone else is feeling well.

Clarella · 20/09/2012 23:33

V quick.post before narcolepsy hits, nct class very positive, some useful stuff plus no whale music though church choir rather intrusive for first hour - woman was similar age I reckon (mid 30s) so totally on our wavelength and very balanced views about stuff. I'll do a better recap tomorrow some good chats about nipples, cabbages and the bare basics of labour! And hospital parking. :)

EggsMichelle · 21/09/2012 04:33

Woken up gasping for a drink and now anxious that I'm not being kicked, I know he has to sleep sometime but after an anxious call from my midwife mum about my lovely discharge last night, I want him to be kicking and moving constantly!

But wow I am thirsty!

monsterchild · 21/09/2012 04:41

can I join? I am concerned about bf, as my sister and mother both were unable to bf due to child mouth shape (high palate) and nipple shape (very very flat). because of this I am planning on trying to bf, but if can't will just pump. the good part about that is I have to return to work pretty quickly (must pay those bills!) and this will allow Dh to also feed kidlet.

But has anyone any info on high palate/flat nipples? I'm just trying to learn as much as I can about all of it.

And kidlet is kicking up a storm lately! I'm not sure if it's going to get better or worse when there's less room for kidlet to get a good swing going.

Clarella · 21/09/2012 05:11

Bloody wide awake again too bloody bladder.

Eggs, I know what you mean - had a few nights where I'm restless and he's not. You could try the ice cold, drink thing? 2 birds one stone too!

Hi monster, congratulations and welcome! Don't know about that specifically other than a close friends baby had cleft lip and pallet so couldn't bf at all. Could you find a bf teacher or contact the nct bf helpline?

monsterchild · 21/09/2012 05:22

I'll be doing that, to see. My Dsis had a consultant, but it just didnt work. I'm staying hopeful!

EggsMichelle · 21/09/2012 05:42

At least if your nipple and baby's mouth aren't compatible, you can still give them your milk with the bottle. I am going to b one of those women who thinks the world has ended if I can't bf, and can imagine myself crying with pain at every feed, I am burying my head in the sand about about it and refusing to buy bottles/pump/steriliser.

Had a few small movements now, he must be asleep, but think it was the cold drink that did it, thanks Clarella.

monsterchild · 21/09/2012 06:07

Eggd, I think without the heads up from dsis, I'd be crushed too if I couldn't Bf. But no matter what, kidlet is going to get breastmilk, either direct from the source or bottle. that I have determined. And if the increased size of my boobs are any indication, I'll also be able to make cheese!

EggsMichelle · 21/09/2012 06:22

I keep threatening my DH with breast milk ice cream!!!

SpottyTeacakes · 21/09/2012 06:40

Eggs, my sister uses it in cooking when she runs out of milk Shock

It's cold this morning. Could also do with some Tena Blush

PurplePidjin · 21/09/2012 07:24

Congrats and welcome, Monster, when are you due? I assume your sis tried everyone, but I've heard La Leche League are very good, worth a try?

I have a pump (thanks dsil :o) and a bottle (thanks, Avent!) but will try and bf to 6 months. Like everything about first time parenting - we shall see!
