Morning

I woke up at 330, but luckily managed to drop back off about an hour later. I am so glad DD is sleeping until nearer 6 these days, i just hope it lasts!

Re breastfeeding. I attempted it but just couldnt manage to persevere with it at the time. With hindsight i wish i had pushed on thru it but the tiredness and overwhelmed-ness i felt it was just too much Sad

My plan this time is to try again and just see how things go. No pressure Smile

Going for a swim today, well more of a float really.

JoJoB77 · 21/09/2012 07:40

Oh and welcome monsterchild!

HoneyMum21 · 21/09/2012 10:29

much needed day off work today so am snuggled on the sofa for the morning waiting for GP to call about suspected chest infection. then pram and furniture being delivered this afternoon :)

Stacks · 21/09/2012 11:56

Had my 28w appointment yesterday, nothing much to report about it really. Measured bump size, my BP, and baby's HB, took blood, and made an appointment to go back in 4 weeks time. They don't do a GTT here unless you show up sugar in your urine, so I won't be getting one.

I mentioned the flu jab to her, and she said I should organise getting one, as it's recommended for all pregnant women. They don't do it or organise it for you though.

Honey my work contract says if I have any 'pregnancy related' sick days in the 4 weeks prior to my ML starting, my ML will automatically start on that day. I might abuse this for my own ends, though I'm stopping work early (mid Nov) anyway as I really don't like my job.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 21/09/2012 12:05

I wasn't sure whether to get flu jab or not, heard it protects the baby from flu when she comes out but can it make you quite ill after the actual injection? Didn't have it with November born dd 4 years ago.

The baby is making my tummy into very strange shapes right now, I can feel limbs under my skin like almost being able to touch her. I love it but slightly freaked out too.

Stacks · 21/09/2012 12:10

I've had the flu jab for the last few years - and haven't had a cold or flu in that time. I never had any side effects from the jab, except an aching arm for the first day or so. I was given the jab when having chemotherapy, so was immune compromised at the time - and still had no illness afterwards.

Of course, everyone can react differently, but that's my experience.

MyDaydream · 21/09/2012 12:16

Now I've discovered how much my belly jiggles I'm trying to get DP to see, but as soon as he looks baby stops.

I've just sat down to do some baby shopping and my baby list is gone because I stupidly didn't save it. I made it so long ago I assumed I had last night when I shut it, and thought it was just asking if I wanted to save the notes I made on it. No autosave back up I've checked.

Honey I'm waiting for deliveries too. Curtain poles and bedding predicted at any point up to 9pm.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 21/09/2012 12:30

That's reassuring stacks I will more than likely have it done now. Wow you've been through a lot x

HoneyMum21 · 21/09/2012 12:40

Thanks Stacks- i'm contemplating using that rule to my advantage too!

Well, i have a chest infection and some horrible antibiotics and therefore the right to do nothing but feel sorry for myself till DH gets home from work and i can send him out for a takeaway!

SpottyTeacakes · 21/09/2012 12:59

I've had the flu jab for the past 12 years and never had a bad reaction, or flu Grin

Queenofsiburbia · 21/09/2012 13:14

I've been away since Saturday & missed lots of chat! Tried to catch up but got a bit lost. Hope everyone well and bumps behaving (even if back muscles aren't!).

Had a lovely few days sightseeing in Italy but absolutely Knackering. Empathy not DH's strong point so trying to explain how tiring being on feet in 27 degs heat for 4 entire days has fallen on deaf ears. Even evidence of feet doubling in size (& hands one day!) received only an 'mmm, oh dear'! Should not complain as it was so gorgeous & amazing break for my birthday / our anniversary.

I am definitely having flu jab. My immune system has been rubbish since getting pregnant (in fact, have a chest infection right now. Sigh.) & they say that pregnant women are one of most vulnerable groups, esp to swine flu.

Need to galvanise myself to do some ebay shopping for baby things if you lot haven't poached all the good stuff already!

Im also getting strange alien formations on surface of my bump aka the moon which really makes me smile! My LO also knows when DH is looking and goes stone still like musical statues!

Happy Fridays one & all!

Clarella · 21/09/2012 13:15

Oh honey, at least the antibiotics should hopefully clear it, get well soon. make sure you're properly pampered! Ime virus coughs are sometimes worse for that reason, there's nothing to take so they can drag on longer. Stock up on yoghurt to get your good tummy bacteria up afterwards and help protect against thrush!

I've been invited to a flu jab clinic at the docs, we were all given swine flu vacc a few years ago at work (due to sen kids) and it just felt a bit tender the next day. This has been an unbelievable year for viruses/colds etc we noticed at school (massive chick pox outbreak plus slapped cheek and whooping cough) so I reckon it can't hurt to have it.

Glad all ok ellie, you sound like you're actually well prepared mentally and logistically monsterchild. Are you feeling happier today daydream?

Random extra lost marble controlling scan at 3, still nervous but also really looking forward to it :)

annelid · 21/09/2012 13:25

Anti D - I've had this a few times now and have found the best place was top of my arm. I had it in the top of leg once and it really hurt!

Breastfeeding - (This is just my opinion and am not having a go at anyone who didn't/doesn't breastfeed) I have breastfed all of mine and in my experience it is not easy to begin with. You are having to learn a new skill and that takes time. You just have to be prepared to ask for help if necessary, don't get stressed about it, and take your time. You are learning as is baby.

MyDaydream · 21/09/2012 13:49

I'll be getting the flu jab once I'm registered with my new GP, I know lots of people who have them every year problem free.
Queen sounds like a great long weekend, I really want to do a mini tour of Italy in the future.
Honey feel better soon, sounds like you need DH to bring feel better ice cream too.
Clarella good luck with your scan. Did you say they thought everything was fine but offered it for reassurance?
I'm feeling better for now, we're moving the big stuff tomorrow so there's every possibility the shouting and crying will be heard for miles around. I'll laying down my ground rules tonight of leave me alone and don't fuss over me. DP put his back out playing football last night so is actually more fragile than me at the minute!

Saphiesgirl · 21/09/2012 13:50

I'm with those of you planning a flu jab. Had flu last year and couldnt have felt worse. DH had to help me undress and get into bed I just couldnt move! Only had it once and never again thanks!

Happy Friday everyone, it's a Holiday weekend here and after major flooding yesterday closing some big roads, today is glorious! Hope you all have a good weekend.

Cookiesandcream06 · 21/09/2012 14:06

Sending my first message from my shiney new iPhone5 will catch up later. Welcome to monster

Barbeasty · 21/09/2012 14:28

I've had my flu jab invitation through. My GP does 2 Saturday mornings where you just turn up with your letter and get seen. I had it last time round, in the swine flu epidemic and then again last year due to pneumonia and now fall into both pregnant and asthmatic risk groups. I'm not going to risk not having it!

Honey hope the antibiotics kick in soon. If it lingers get straight back to the GP.

Bellaboo123 · 21/09/2012 14:41

honey hope you feel better soon

I had my MW appointment today and she's told me to definately have the flu jab as we're 18 times more likely to catch it (to be precise!!!) I've never had it before but have booked in for it.

Wee was fine and measuring all OK, baby is still head down, fingers crossed she stays that way!

My MW couldn't do my Fit to Fly it has to be the doctor who charges £30 . bloody cheek - hey ho!

Welcome monsterchild

utopian99 · 21/09/2012 15:13

Welcome monster!

Just catching up on chat after being up to my elbows in paint all week.. (dh bought me a box of after eights last night in recognition of painting work, yum!)

BFing - definitely want to, though only planning on it for 6 months then on to baby-led weaning, which my aunt is doing at the moment and sounds like a good way to go.. Will feel horrendous if I can't as mentioned on earlier threads will no doubt think it's my fault that caused the issue (was assured at the time it won't be affected.) heard it can take a bit of time to get right, so determined to do what I'm told and keep at it! Also heard the colostrum is the key bit for immune boosting, so if at least some of that ends up where it's supposed to, that'll be good, right?

Also planning on flu jab but never had it before as i don't get ill much- do you have to ask the doctor?

Queenofsiburbia · 21/09/2012 15:33

I got a 'fit to fly' letter to be on safe side & my GP charged £25. More annoyingly, despite my request in writing 2 weeks beforehand they basically forgot. They also seemed to think I was being paranoid to ask for one.
Glad I pushed for it tho' as I did get asked for it on return journey & would have been so annoying & stressful to have to beg/persuade them to let me fly.

I will tell my dr that I was asked just to make the point Wink

monsterchild · 21/09/2012 15:39

Hi utopian, Thanks for the warm welcome! I am also considering the flu jab but will discuss with Ob. Dh is a nurse and firmly believes that he gets the flu after getting the jab! I have had one ever (H1N1) and didn't get ill that year, but I'm not sure a sample of two is significant.

I think it's part of regular care, here you don't need a script for it, most pharmacies will give it to you.

I will also do the 6 months then see where baby is going feeding wise. Sadly I do not get much mat leave, so regardless of how good we get on with bf, there will be bottles involved! Happily I can take kidlet to work, so that will be good too!

My Dsis did expressed breast milk for her kids (and she had tons of consults, they were pretty amazed that her kids couldn't latch properly. Again, apparently high palates small/flat nipples can make it really hard to baby to suck ).

MyDaydream · 21/09/2012 16:02

utopian I'm really excited about trying baby lead weaning, I couldn't be bothered with all the mush, puréeing and "here comes the aeroplane" I've seen my friends do. And I quite like a bit of mess, my mum has to keep reminding me he's not going to be muddy all the time because when I talk about him he is.

With breast feeding I've not set myself a goal, I'm going to try it and if it works, brilliant but if everyone involved is getting stressed out and not benefiting I'll either express or formula feed instead. When baby is here I'll probably do day by day goals, then if it works for us week by week. Apparently I stopped altogether at 1 and just refused to latch after then so I know even if I think it's going really well there could be a day when he just goes off it.

ellliebelle · 21/09/2012 16:49

utopian daydream i love baby led weaning :) did it with dd2 amd it was fab so easy too just giving them whatever your having :) the book on it is great and really opened my mind. Blw also works well with bf as they dont really eat a lot to begin with so can still feed on demand and cutvitbout as they see fit :)

Bubbless · 21/09/2012 17:10
