Just seen midwife. Usual one was on holiday so had a lovely lovely stand in - it makes such a difference having a nice one who answered questions without making me feel stupid or like I was wasting time. Measuring pretty much spot once dates. Trainee tried to do bloods but missed the vein so feel like a pin cushion now!

Secondsop · 19/09/2012 12:18

honeymum I have very small deep veins so whenever someone who is not used to taking blood is about to do it, I always say "I've got difficult veins - don't feel you have to keep trying if you'd rather I went to phlebotomy instead" to try to reassure them that it's me not them,
and also to try to minimise the scratching around! When I went for my last scan the sonographer asked if he could take blood for a research study, and I was fine with it but warned them about my veins, and he took one look at my arms and said "let's not bother"!

pmgkt · 19/09/2012 12:23

25 week mw appointment today, waste of time really but ds likes to hear the heartbeat so that is worth it. She is referring me to vbac nurse to plan out my vbac given I had a long induced labour last time so will be a bit more informed of worst case situation.

EggsMichelle · 19/09/2012 12:28

Well it's good timing I have just baked brownies, so all you "stabby" ladies can relax and indulge in chocolate. Got my 28wk appointment then making banana loaf, I hate bananas but froze loads DH hadn't eaten and colleagues need treats at work tomo!

I would not appreciate a strange touching my belly, that's as bad as ass and boob grabbing Grin

MyDaydream · 19/09/2012 12:37

spotty jealous of you going to Ikea, I was meant to be going tomorrow but don't think my back will be better so my mum is bringing her adorable dog over for cuddles to cheer me up instead! Spotty can you wear a stretchy, comfy dress to the wedding but dress it up with jewellery?
Purple I love the sling, will be very cute with baby in it. How long did it take you would you say? Just as an aside I always think of you having purple dreads when I read your posts.
Clarella could you email womans hour to suggest a discussion? When I was in school we went on a trip where Germaine Greer did a talk which mostly consisted of period and menopause talk, which she started just as one of the other guys in my class started eating his lunch, I can still see his face now!
DP told his mum not to touch me and she hasn't so far. I've been keeping more than arms reach away from her at all times though just in case. She does keep doing this annoying thing of saying something to twang on DPs heart strings so he relays it to me expecting it to play on my compassionate side. So she'll say "oh, I want to come over more often but don't want to feel like I'm intruding." She's tried it to my face a few times but I don't pander to her so she's stopped.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/09/2012 12:42

MyDaydream I really don't have anything 'dressy' maternity or otherwise I'm more a jeans person Grin it's just making me dread going it's ridiculous!

Secondsop · 19/09/2012 12:44

Spotty your wedding outfit sounds very nice especially as it is the evening do and not the "formal" part of the day. Perhaps dress it up with some sparkly jewellery if you feel too casual? I do think that, to an extent, all bets are off when one is pregnant anyway, clothes-wise - if it were my wedding I certainly wouldn't expect pregnant folk to get something that they would have hardly any other occasion for wearing.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/09/2012 12:46

I don't even know the people whose wedding it is really

Grin
PurplePidjin · 19/09/2012 12:48

A cautiously optimistic appointment this morning - PidjChick has gone from having an extra beat on every heartbeat to only some of them. Mw reckons he's growing out of it :o

Consultant and anti-d jab next week, how much exactly does it hurt?

Phillips Avent Due Date Club sent me a free bottle, hurrah!

Secondsop · 19/09/2012 12:53

spotty my oldest friend (who was not pregnant at the time) wore to my wedding metallic silver leggings and a long sleeveless top. I must confess I did for a moment think "hmm, that's rather casual" but the thought was almost instantly replaced by "ah, what the heck, it's nice that she wore something that she was comfortable in and had a cracking time".

Secondsop · 19/09/2012 12:54

Great (cautiously optimistic) news purple

PurplePidjin · 19/09/2012 13:06

Daydream, maybe 3-4 hours at a gentle bimble, the worst part was turning the straps the right way round! Basically, i had a 32mm strap buckle (clippy thing like on a rucksack) and made 2 50" long straps (denim weight fabric) plus 1 9". Cut a rectangle 14x15" from outer (upholstery weight) and inner (fleece or nice cotton) fabric. Double the short strap and thread the female side of the clip on, sew very firmly to the wrong side of the outer a good inch from the edge at a 45 angle. Sew one end of each long strap to each bottom corner, so they head off round your waist. Thread the strap opposite the short strap onto the male bit of clip, put it on so it crosses your back, adjust to fit loosely. Bring the loose strap up and over (so there's an x on your shoulder blades) and pin. Sew on firmly at a 45 angle to the corner. Place fleece and outer right sides together. Sew together, leaving gaps where the straps are (keep them inside) and a big gap for turning. Turn right side out, top stitch. Try on again, take the fixed strap in at centre back so carrier is snug for a newborn - you can unpick this later when baby grows. Or, use two clips at the top (i would have done this if I'd been able to get hold of another clip immediately!)

Dp has dreads, I'm a bit more conventional Wink

Spotty are you near enough to borrow my Isabella Oliver frock? Was lent to me and is a plain black wrap style. Would be fab with boots and coloured tights.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/09/2012 13:10

Oh that's so kind pidj but unfortunately not and I'm working the next two days!

Bellaboo123 · 19/09/2012 13:27

eggs do you have a receipe for the banana loaf...i've really been fancying some for weeks now!!!
Purple my anti-d is next week too...have heard vary degrees of pain levels...eeek trying not to think about it!

MyDaydream · 19/09/2012 13:31

Purple Thanks, it all looks very confusing but I'm sure if I write it down in a way my brain can handle I'll cope, did you post a link to the instructions a while back? 3-4 hours is probably all day to me, but I really want to start using my sewing machine more often.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 19/09/2012 13:55

pidj mei-tai looking good, wish I was as handy as you are!!

One of my friends wore a sarong as a skirt and a t-shirt to my wedding, I remember her dancing around the dancefloor with a string of children following her like the pied piper. I thought it was quite brilliant, your outfit sounds much more appropriate though!

PurplePidjin · 19/09/2012 13:56

It'll make more sense as you do it, ime. I need to physically do stuff like this in order to understand it. Yes, i posted a link, but my way is the simplified version :o

3-4 hours is a rough estimate of how long i actually worked on it, i tend to sew in between pottering around iyswim

Clarella · 19/09/2012 14:00

Quick pop on b4 appt, good news purple, a cautious relief :)

Bella, Google 'guardian best banana bread' by felicity cloake (? Sp) she's tried a few and that was what she decided was best :)

minipie · 19/09/2012 14:03

Impressed with all the baking and mei tai making! I am working long hours at the moment Sad so can only really manage work and mumsnetting

Anyone else getting hiccups? I think I've just started getting them, or rather the bean has - a kind of rhythmic "flick...flick...flick" down near my bikini line. Hope that means she is head down Grin Confused?

Hurray for Pidjchick's heartbeat sorting itself and hope all GTT results are ok.

Spotty I think jersey dress and boots is fine tbh esp if pregnant. I'd prob do tights rather than leggings to make it a little smarter, and add snazzy belt/jewellery/make up/fancy hair do to glam it up!

I have a hen do on Saturday - been really looking forward to it but now I don't want to go as my back still hurts Sad.

kate2boysandabump · 19/09/2012 14:38

Hello all, been busy the past few days, so have just caught up on things.

Welcome back Strawberry Smile

Pidg That's great news, maybe it will all be resolved by delivery Smile Your carrier looks great, if only I could find the time to sit down at the sewing machine Sad

Spotty wear whatever you're comfortable in, it's only one night. I might be using some of your recommended recipes for Christmas. They can be made ages in advance, so I could do them soon.

Second I have veins just like you, I always give people fair warning that it's a fair skill getting blood out of me. I once had to have a neonatal needle Blush

I'm actually feeling quite well, my back is feeling OK and apart from getting breathless a bit more easily, I feel not too bad. I'm even managing to walk the school run morning and afternoon, it does give me stitch sometimes though.

I had to fix one a ds2's drawers this morning, I now have no more nails in my hair Angry I've left it to dry so I can brush it out, it looks awful.

The ds's have the optician this afternoon, I had to spend most of the walk to school explaining, in fairly simple terms the genetic ins and outs of why he's colour blind. It made me sad this week, when we walked through the park he couldn't make out that the leaves were changing colour, it all looks yellow to him already!!

I discovered something that makes my baby move this week, he likes Florence and the Machine Grin

MyDaydream · 19/09/2012 15:03

Purple totally missed that babies heartbeat is getting more regular that's great. Things tend to click into place when I do it too, too many words start to confuse me when really I need instructions for 3 year olds.
I'm being confused by curtains and blinds, how do people ever choose?! Need bedroom and living room, I can't choose and I need them for Saturday.

ISpyPlumPie · 19/09/2012 15:03

Hi everyone.

Not having a great day - took car for MOT and it needs £360 worth of work doing to it to pass! Now stuck in town all afternoon while they sort it too.

Know that it has to be done, and that having a safe car should be top of list of priorties but can't help thinking about all the baby stuff we could have got for £360. Never mind!

Bellaboo123 · 19/09/2012 15:20

thanks Clarella you know what i'll be making this weekend!

Clarella · 19/09/2012 15:23

Still at hosp, quick post, did I dream it or did someone recommend the nigella prune and Choc Xmas cake .... if they did double recommend, plus imagine all the anitoxidants in it, practically going to be a multivitamin at Xmas! I recently had a Yotam Ottelenghi receipe Choc and prune cake which was gorgeous. Positively 2 of your 5 a day!

Clarella · 19/09/2012 15:24

My god my spelling is getting atrocious
