spotty & Clarella definitely looks cosy and feels really secure on. I've read its not as good for older babies but I want to mainly use it for taking dd into pre-school and not having to lug the carseat as we have to park a 5 minute walk away. I think it might also be useful for around the house...and I have wistful images of us all walking through the Christmas Market near us me with baby in caboo and dh holding dd's hand, ahhhh....silly pre-birth daydreams where I forget how exhausted and grumpy I'll be.

PurplePidjin · 18/09/2012 09:45

I'll probably go for a stretchy wrap to start (not sure on brands!) but dp wants a soft structured with clips not ties in non-flowery-tinkly-kitschy-twee fabric. Actually, that sums up both of our taste! But if he's going to take PidjChick off for a long walk in the Forest, he needs fast easy access for nappy changes. I have ideas involving shower curtains and pockets, too...

Whereas I'll need something cosy for around the house/popping out for a pint of milk etc where lugging the buggy up and down stairs would just be a complete pain :)

FriendofDorothy · 18/09/2012 09:50

Pidj - have a look at the Close wraps. Definitely flowery or too girly and lovely and soft. Might be a good one to start with whilst the baby is little.

FriendofDorothy · 18/09/2012 09:51

Not too flowery or girly I mean!

PurplePidjin · 18/09/2012 10:21

I think I'm ok, because i can buy/hire through the lovely sling library. Dp is the tricky one! I need to stay in for a delivery today, might ditch other projects and have a go at making...

SpottyTeacakes · 18/09/2012 10:28

I'm sitting eating a packet couple of Jaffa Cakes

gilsbubbles · 18/09/2012 10:30

I've been doing a pilates class for pregnancy which is brilliant. The instructor recommends a book on active birth, in fact she had I've which gets passed round when ladies are close to their due date. I bought a copy for myself from amazon...is a bit 1970s but really interesting and has given me some great input to my birth plan. If there was a class here id be keen on going. Book author is janet balaskas

We've got the baby bjorn (cheap off eBay :) ) for out and about and I want a cosy fabric one for around the house. Seen some good ones on ebay (from a company rather than individual seller) for about £20 which are a definite maybe. On phone at the min but will post a link later.

PurplePidjin · 18/09/2012 11:23

Iirc, BabyBjorn are cheap second hand because they don't hold the baby in a very comfortable position...

SpottyTeacakes · 18/09/2012 11:30

I don't think it's any different from using a door bouncer/jumperoo etc but probably wouldn't use one for a newborn, personally, as I think they look more cosy in a stretchy wrap/carrier.

HoneyMum21 · 18/09/2012 11:57

The baby bjorn we got cheap was one that had been a spare at the grandparents house. Everyone I spoke to who has had a baby bjorn -including a physiotherapist (and the people who own the 2nd hand kids shop in my town) all rave about th and wouldn't have been without them and have said the babies are always happy in them too.

That being said - I do agree spotty that they don't look as snuggly for newborns!

minipie · 18/09/2012 12:08

It's the forward facing position in a baby bjorn that is supposed to be not great for their hips (as their legs dangle straight rather than being in a "sitting" position). If you only use it facing towards you it shouldn't be an issue. And personally I think forward facing as long as the baby is a bit older and as long as it's only occasional is probably fine too

Heard a horror birth story from a friend who gave birth last week Sad

SpottyTeacakes · 18/09/2012 12:10

Oh no minipie hope everything is OK with your friend now

minipie · 18/09/2012 12:22

Yeah she's ok - now back at home and recovering and with her adorable daughter. Just a bit scary for me those of us still to go through it!

ellliebelle · 18/09/2012 12:25

O no mini just rwad my friends birth story earlier in thread and convince yourself all births are like that :) im starting aquanatal tonight hope its good and hope it might ease some of the spd aches and pains also starting nct relax stretch breath on thurs so will see what thats all about :)

knottyhair · 18/09/2012 12:32

We had a Baby Bjorn for DS and it was brilliant, and I've bought another one (secondhand but hardly used) for Rosa. Can't remember how old he was when I first put him in it but he loved it and was very comfy.

minipie · 18/09/2012 13:01

was that the friend who gave birth in 5 minutes or something ridiculous? yup I want one of those please Smile

utopian99 · 18/09/2012 13:21

strawberry we'd love a purple one too, i also love the orange you got the v2 in, but they don't do the v3 in it. Given we're going the ebay route I'd be okay with a red or green one too. We have the maxi-cosi car seat already as I'd read so many good reviews, but know they do an adaptor. In your opinions in the carry cot essential as i thought the v3 seat unit also goes flat for new borns?

Went to the MW this morning to check that the stress work have put me under with their bizarre behaviour hasn't affected The Crumb, but he seems okay, which is a weight off my mind..
Given i have extra time at the moment am spending it painting literally the whole of a house we bought to rent out (has had to be entirely replastered). Looks like I've been walking through a blizzard, I'm that covered in paint!

SpottyTeacakes · 18/09/2012 13:36

Glad everything's OK utopian :)

I'm waiting for an electrician eugh. Be here between 1 and 5 apparently Hmm

StrawberrytallCAKE · 18/09/2012 15:01

Glad little one is ok utopian. I'm going in this afternoon to have my bloods taken a bit late and a check up, was just having a walk in town thinking I shouldn't be in so much pain walking.

I don't think the carrycot is necessary at all I just can't help myself :)

Good thing about the maxi cosi seats is they are so much lighter than stokke one which is bloody heavy.

Bubbless · 18/09/2012 16:18

i think i want a sling thats all fabric-y, but im kinda worried bubba will roll out?!?!

stacks your bump looks rather.. pert?! mine seems to be maybe a bit smaller but sagging?! (i kid you not, i typed that then got an almighty kick from bump ;) )

SpottyTeacakes · 18/09/2012 16:27
