Because I'll be in the maternity hospital and they can interfere with the equipment. I'd hate to think I'm interfering with equipment on the neo natal ward or some poor woman having her baby monitored!!! I know it's not likely but policy is policy and if I'm going to be working for the NHS I should probably behave :)

OodHousekeeping · 24/09/2012 07:40

When I was in maternity everyone had their phones. It was the only thing keeping me sane!

mandasand · 24/09/2012 08:01

Morning all! Sounds like it's been a very foodie weekend for lots of us!

Well, I'm stuffed with pumpkin lasagne - the recipe made for three lasagnes in the end and I really didn't have space for the second helping I managed to scoff! It was a great night :-) My friend who didn't know, one of my bessie mates, went absolutely bonkers when she saw my bump. DH let her in and I peeked my head around from the lounge door. 'Why you hiding behind the door?' she sensibly asked and I did a big 'Ta-dah!', jumping out with my belly. Lots of screaming ensued - fantastic! Just the reaction I predicted/wanted!

Cheers Sheldon and Emus - I appreciate your words.

Shel, hope you get to hear the heartbeat today! I did at my 16-week MW appt last week (after quite a bit of trying as I have anterior placentas) - rooting for you!

Emus, I never went to a clairvoyant when I was younger precisely because I thought I might believe in it somehow! But twins - if they run in your family then you're just going to have to keen trying! Hehe! We've only just learned that one of DH's grandparents was born a twin but the other died at birth, so technically they run in the family, but is that still a factor for us if they have come from different eggs (separate placentas, so 90% chance of that)? We've been trying to figure this out and don't have a sound enough grasp of biology, hehe! I can recommend a private scan, if you can stretch to it, financially and time-wise - it really helped me at 8 weeks.

Random I love the look of that Social Baby book! Have just bought it - a tenner on Amazon. Thanks for the recommendation!

I also did a quick scan for mindfulness + pregnancy and found this: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/006196395X/ref=rdr_ext_tm. I'll definitely get it if I'm not it's not 100% c-section in a few weeks.

backwardpossom · 24/09/2012 08:16

Morning! Have my oral exam today. Nervous as hell but it's not until 6pm! Actual conversing en Français... Terrified! If i do well enough, I'll end up with a distinction for this module, so keep your fingers crossed please!

Hope you're all well. Been away all weekend in the north highlands - Brora and Golspie. And I thought I live in the sticks...! Remote, but stunning. Will try to catch up on posts, but think I need to cram for this exam!

randomswitch · 24/09/2012 08:31

Hope your exam goes well today Possum, good luck!

Mandas, hope you like the book! I have just bought it for a baby shower pressie. My husband thinks it is great too! Thanks for the link to the mindfulness book. I have done the mindfulness course too and found it helpful. I really like those sort of things, hypnotherapy, mindfulness, yoga. Wow, that makes me sound like a real hippy, doesn't it? I don't think I am! I have just found that those things give me practical tools for managing stress and anxiety etc. I recommend them anyway!

zoeymlucas · 24/09/2012 08:37

When I have been in Jojo you have always been allowed phones they even let people use them in theatre recovery - you just was not allowed them anywhere in special care. No baby on the ward will be being monitored on equipment that it could interfer with as if that was needed they would be in special care. A surgeon friend also told me its rubbish about the interference and its moe to do with the noise of them going off all the time disturbing people so if they say a no phone policy people put them on silent.

Good luck in your exam today possum with have fx crossed for you.Today is blinking awful its freezing cold, the clouds are black and I think Noah might be coming with all that rain its def a pj and duvet day not a sat in the office day with every idiot asking to do a million things TODAY and to spend 2 hours in meetings when I aalready have too much to get done today!!! Roll on maternity leave

GummiberryJuice · 24/09/2012 08:52

Good luck possom

Emus I've been to Vegas twicw absolutely love it, 1st time on honeymoon, 2nd time I was 16wks pg with ds and dd was only 2, still had a ball, actually that was the first time I felt ds move as we drove from Vegas to LA

sundaesundae · 24/09/2012 08:53

Good luck Possum!

My ex-husband worked for a company that manufactured all the monitoring equipment and was asked by a surgeon to fake mobile phones interfering so he could stop people using them. He refused and said he thought it was unethical. He (my ex) was (is) a bit of a genius and explained to me that the only things that can interfere are the porters radios, especially older ones.

And as an ex-radiographer and currently working in hospitals across the country in a different role, all the staff use them including on NICU.

The usual reason for ban is the noise and annoyance issue along with the issue of having to protect peoples valuables. I certainly will not be in hospital without mine, but it is personal choice as to whether you ignore it or not.

JoJoBella84 · 24/09/2012 08:59

I'll sneak it in then shhhhh!!! ;)
Good luck possum you'll do great I'm sure :)

JoJoBella84 · 24/09/2012 09:02

sundae I could live without the phone function but my phone is also my MP3 player and obv I use the interweb a fair amount to chat to you guys so if I can take it in I will :)

theTramp · 24/09/2012 09:32

Good luck with exam today possum. I'd write that in French but I have no idea of the vocabulary - GCSEs were a long time ago!

MrM is an identical twin and so are two of his cousins so I figured twins could be a possibility. Apparently twins running in families makes no odds to the likelihood of you having them. As yet no evidence that there's a family connection but loads regarding age of parents. Shame, I would've liked twins. Siblings sorted in one hit!

JoJoBella84 · 24/09/2012 09:35

tramp I'm the same! I'd have just liked to have it out of the way in one go. Only want two kids so would be great having them both at once. Ah well - I'm sure I can handle round two of the morning sickness in a couple of years!!

Sheldonella · 24/09/2012 09:39

Just a quickie to say good luck today possom. I'm sure you will do very well :)
Just waiting it out for my appointment now, I really hope I get to hear the heartbeat. Thanks for the suggestion rainbow I was wondering about those. I will look into it if theres no chance the midwife will listen.

JoJoBella84 · 24/09/2012 10:09

It would appear that my baby dislikes nectarines. A lot. Bleughgggggggh :(

JoJoBella84 · 24/09/2012 10:25

But LOVES fiery chilli crisps?!? What am I creating here?!

backwardpossom · 24/09/2012 10:27

lol Jojo! All I crave is milk. Milk milk and more milk. We're going through a ridiculous amount...

theTramp · 24/09/2012 12:16

possom - that's a good thing! plus milk is delicious. Particularly full fat, full cream Jersey milk mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

JoJo - I empathise on the not liking nectarines. It seems Socs isn't a fan of salad but chips are fine. Sorry you're feeling bleurgh though.

Oh I am so buying some proper milk when I head to Sainsburys now. Proper milk, something for lunch, something for dinner and ketchup. Now there's a shopping list. Manda - your lasagne sounds lovely. Don't suppose you could courier some over here could you? :)

dameflamingo · 24/09/2012 12:29

Bon Chance! Possom I will never forget my last frenchoral exam when I was forced to alert a caravan site manager that the window was broken, explain that my tyre was burst ( I love the word pneu!) and order some meat. I have subsequently nevr had to do any of those things in France although I did have a hilarious moment with the AA in Bristol when the mechanic who came to save me with my burst tyre ( tiny person, locking wheel nuts - I was never going to change it myself please don't judge me harshly) took one look at my name (which sounds French) the company I was working for ( which is French) and the car ( also French because of company) and tried out his schoolboy franglais on me.. I thought he was french so responded about pneus being creve and all that.. we then both looked baffled before he said 'do you speak english' and I in my best geordie accent squeak ' whey aye pet'. Anyway I digress...

sheldon I also have 16 week mw appt this week (although technically its 17w5) Hope you get to hear a lovely heart beat _ I hear it is quite an emotional moment.

sundae cheese scones rule! also thank you for clarification on mobiles in hospital. I was shocked at the number of people who ignored the signs when I was waiting for my scan. DH and I were the only ones in the waiting room to actually switch off and put away!

cravings still on the lift lemon tea and crisps ( shamefully admits that favourite one ares strog ham flavoured ones). Chocolate soya milk and quorn savoury eggs also feature highly on the list.

mandasand · 24/09/2012 12:58

Good luck possom! Hope it goes really well! Don't suppose you'd like to give my talk at the Sorbonne in French next month, would you, to save me the embarrassment of being the only English speaker?! Your weekend sounds lovely by the way!

Random, agree with you on all that except hypnotherapy which I've never tried. I hear good things about it and stopping smoking etc. The thing I particularly like about mindfulness meditation is that it teaches you that you have the solutions to your life's difficulties/troubles actually within you. I've found it so empowering to be able to change my behaviour and outlook for the better Smile

Right, orders being taken for pumpkin lasagne for lunch -- me, check; Tramp, check. Anyone else? Currently pondering whether it's fine to put a casserole dish into the freezer ? we've so much left!

Dame - laughing a lot at that story! Grin Mmmm, chocolate soya milk. Ocado delivered 15 cartons of Alpro the other day, but I'm rationing myself to one per day :-) Good for my protein levels, I tell myself.

pinkpeony4 · 24/09/2012 13:06

Hello

Just trying to catch up!

Manda The Nepalese restaurant I saw was a large detatched building on the drive into Oxford from my Mum's. We enter Oxford through Summertown so on that road (from Bicester area). I haven't tried the other place, we normally just go for lunch with the boys so tend to go to Atomic Burger or Jamies!

I made a delicious sweet potato and pumpkin lasagne with ricotta, spinach and pine nuts.It was this one www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/butternut_and_sweet_49981

Zoey We went to Greece when I was 31 weeks pregnant with ds3. We flew back at nearly 33 weeks and it was totally fine. I had a letter from my GP but no one asked to see it at all. Sorry to hear about your Grandad.

JoJo I hope you aren't too worried about Wednesday. I have always used my phone in maternity and the nurses didn't mind at all.

Hope everyone else is Ok. Revolting day here today!

JoJoBella84 · 24/09/2012 13:11

manda I appreciate sending a portion to Aberdeen is going to be costly but if you'd like to send me the recipe, well I'd be most grateful for the opportunity to eat/cook something nutritious.
Also if you have a tasty butternut squash recipe?? Please could you send it??!

JoJoBella84 · 24/09/2012 13:27

pink I'm feeling okay about thinks during the day, but I think it's definitely playing on my mind at night as I'm not sleeping through and am waking at 5 every morning - immediately thinking of surgery!
I just hope I'm making the right decision. I know the chances are small of things affecting the baby but naturally I'll worry until its over with!!

pinkpeony4 · 24/09/2012 13:40

JoJo Nights are always the worst for worrying. Only 2 more sleeps. I am sure you are making the right decision and your consultant wouldn't to recommendation anything risky if it wasn't necessary.
The recipe I posted above is actually for butternut squash.

theTramp · 24/09/2012 13:41

I've just resisted buying more chocolate soya milk. But I caved & bought mash and sparkling elderflower. I also caved into overwhelming desire to eat fruit n fibre cereal for my lunch. I'm weak and that slice of lasagne hasn't arrived yet manda. ;)

On positive side leeks & potatos purchased for later soup making and quiche for tea. Although I confess I've cheated & bought a shop one. Naughty as it's not exactly difficult to cook but MrMs on a fast day so I'm only cooking for me. Seems sad making lots of quiche for one.

I think my supermarket shops require curtailing. I've managed to pull something and tummy now hurts. Think foot cramp but in your belly. It was only 5 shopping bags for goodness sake. I'm going to have to start accepting a few more sensible physical limitations. I may sulk.

theTramp · 24/09/2012 13:43

JoJo - almost there now and your consultant sounds like a good guy. Are you house sorting to keep mind off it all?
