Are nuchal scans on top of the two normal scans then? When are they done? I wouldn't usually bother, but if you get an extra scan...

WingDefence · 02/10/2012 10:15

Morning all!

Welcome back Practising I'm v jealous of your holidays (and I bet you have a great tan).

I wish I lived nearer to a proper city with proper shops. I think I'm going to have to have a day trip to Manchester at some point because there is only so much I want to buy online or from eBay.

Child each PCT area, or whatever they are called now, is different. In my area you get one scan that is both dating and nuchal but in London with DS I had one dating at about 10 weeks and one nuchal at 14.

Then you should get the 20 weeks scan where they look for lots of things and I can't really remember having another one for DS after that (but I might be wrong).

So yes, a nuchal is another scan but don't forget why you're having it and whether you'd be happy to consider the consequences etc?

Right, must do some work!

WingDefence · 03/10/2012 14:11

It's all gone quiet! Hope everyone is okay?

We went to the first of two primary school open evenings last night for DS. It was the catholic school in our village and has about 35 pupils in total! I thought it was absolutely lovely but DH isn't keen because it's catholic and he's concerned about some of the catholic teachings compared to our christianity.

IMO I think DS attending a school that actively teaches any form of Christianity has got to be better than sending DS to a school that only does the statutory minimum but he's really got a bee in his bonnet about this one. Still tomorrow night is the other village school, so we'll see Hmm

Do you remember I told you that I'd seen my neighbour's name on the list at the early years centre a few weeks ago? Well I told her and another neighbour that I was expecting last night as they were both at the open evening (it was open to parents of existing pupils as well as prospectives. In fact, I think we were the only prospectives there, at least who didn't have another DC there already!).

She and the other neighbour both seemed really happy but then I caught the other neighbour giving her a couple of glances while I was talking, so I'm a bit worried that she may have MCd or something - otherwise she would possibly be at the point when she'd be telling others like me?

DH thinks I may be wrong and I do really hope so :(

Right, I'm two days late with my work and have been sitting on my bum so far this week doing nothing except wasting time on the internet so I am SIGNING OFF now until I have done some bloomin work...

...oh before I go, just to say I started a thread in Pregnancy about eating healthily because I think I've put on a dress size already and not because of the bump Blush

fryingpantoface · 03/10/2012 18:07

I'm still here. Will do a probably very long post when i'm not on my phone. Scan tomorrow, can't wait! Roll on 3.45

tiredteddy · 03/10/2012 18:24

Still here too. Bit miserable really. Both boys now being tricky at school. My mums due to have a very big operation in a couple of weeks. The next door neighbour had a new alcoholic/ aggressive and antisocial lodger. Police in and out at all hours, not what I'm used too. He plays really loud music too at all hours of the day and night. Agh. Just too much to deal with. So tired. Sorry will cheer up soon x

tiredteddy · 03/10/2012 18:26

Sorry, wing hope your neighbour is ok? Enjoy looking at schools. Nice to have a choice. Look forward to hearing about the next one.

Goo luck for the scan tomorrow frying look forward to hearing about a nice wiggly little bean!

WingDefence · 03/10/2012 18:35

Good luck for the scan Frying!

Tired, that all sounds awful :( Any chance the lodge will be leaving soon, especially with all the police activity?

And of course I'll let you know about tomorrow night's visit. We've already had one quick look around but I just didn't gell with the HT so I wasn't impressed, even though it's the school we really did think we'd automatically send DS to. I'm going to try to collar the reception teacher tomorrow to see what she's like...

Hope all stays quiet for you tonight Brew

fryingpantoface · 04/10/2012 08:58

Morning ladies!

Today i have my scan! Having a mild panic about how much water to drink. I think she said a pint. But i'm at work. Do you think it will be about 2 glasses full? I always forget. I just drank a tall glass of water slowly at about 8, finished at 8.30, and i'm just beginning to think about going to the toilet. So maybe just a little bit more starting earlier?

The things I find to worry about

WingDefence · 04/10/2012 09:38

Morning Frying!

I drank tons for my first scan (the one that didn't last long) and was in complete pain, whereas for my proper 12 week scan I didn't drink enough and the sonographer kept saying, hmm your bladder is only half full...

My notes say drink 1.5 pints no later than one hour before the scan. For the first scan I think I drank 3 tall glasses and then topped up with a bottle of water on the way there. Thank goodness I didn't have long to wait!

So my advice is drink more tha you think you can manage and remember from about an hour before the scan it probably won't filter through to the bladder in time so anything after that probably won't help (so my drinking from a bottle in the car was probably useless!).

What time's the scan? :)

WingDefence · 04/10/2012 09:39

Oh and the second sonographer said that at this stage we all feel like we need the loo far earlier than normal so do not take 'feeling like you need a wee' as a sign that you've drunk enough. I did that and it definitely didn't work! Blush

fryingpantoface · 04/10/2012 10:17

Thanks so much!

Scan is at 3.45, but because it's private I can't see them running really late.

I'll start the drinking about half 2.

I was up all night panicking about everything which could go wrong. My DH didn't understand, but he was supportive anyway. I think I just need to know everything is ok.

tiredteddy · 04/10/2012 11:26

Ahh good luck frying bizarrely at my 12 weeks scan they said my bladder was in the way and I had to go for a wee to empty it!

WingDefence · 04/10/2012 11:56

I'll be thinking of you at 3:45 frying!

Tired that is odd! Hope your day is going a bit better than recently?

tiredteddy · 04/10/2012 13:47

Oh thanks wing the boys were better today. Ds1 ran out of his classroom 3 times yesterday and then had to be peeled off me and the door locked to keep him in. this of course set ds2 off to crying so ge sobbed. But both ok today, phew. Rang the council about the noise and they are on the case. Local police officer has also been round to reassure us they ate in the case and trying to get the lodger on an asbo so they can lock him up if he breaches it. Still worried about my mum. But thanks for asking. Can't really talk about stuff in RL sometimes.

fryingpantoface · 04/10/2012 16:55

We lost the baby.

That's all I wanted to say. I'll be ok.

Good luck everyone!

WingDefence · 04/10/2012 17:12

No no no no no. Frying I'm so, so sorry :(

Gosh that has made me really upset. I'm so sorry :(

I pray you'll be back as soon as you feel ready.

Wine Wine Wine

I'm so sorry Frying I hope you'll be ok. x

WingDefence · 05/10/2012 16:38

Hi all

Another day in London, but this time presenting at a group of stakeholders at the Guildhall. This is the only event I attend which tends to be a jolly - a wine reception after the morning sessions, three course a la carte meal and more wine before the afternoon sessions.

Of course I had no [wine[ - wasn't too difficult actually because I prefer to remain professional as I'm not a delegate but an invited guest. Luckily my presentation was before lunch so I didn't have to present to a bunch of pissed people!

Shall I make you all salivate by sharing the menu with you...? 'Yes' I hear you shout!

Starter: Chicken, stilton and cranberry terrine with some sort of foie gras mousse and parmesan snap things.
Main: Huge chunk of pork belly with crackling, fondant potato, orange jus and savoy cabbage stuffed with cheese and leek.
Pudding: Mango creme brulee, a long 6" strip of mango jelly, mango sorbet and little 'cake' croutons.

With my full english breakfast on the train down this morning, I almost won't have enough for my train meal back home tonight! I'm sure I'll find room though - baby needs nutrients, yes?!

Grin

Take care all.

ICompletelyKnowAboutGuineaPigs · 05/10/2012 16:58

Wing that sounds absolutely delicious! I had almost exactly the same thing here of course ... Oven-baked 'Elfe' potato with a hand-churned butter dressing, served with diced pasta in a lightly spiced tomato sauce and miniature pork saussison. Followed by baked cheese thin cracker and a summer fruit compote.

Of course what I actually had was a jacket potato with spaghetti and mini hotdog sausages, followed by a bag of mini cheddars (I'm addicted!) and some slightly too squishy strawberries!

Had a poorly DD for the past couple of days. She won't stop pooing! I wouldn't mind so much if she was actually eating something but I can't work.out where its all coming from! She hasn't wee'd a lot either so Dr says if she hasn't done a sizeable wee in the next few hrs we've got to take her to the hospital. Am pushing fluids down her like you wouldn't believe! My day has been filled with emptying potties, wiping bottoms and force feeding dioralyte - so you see Wing, we've had practically identical days Wink in my sleep deprived world this is true.

On equally important matters, did you watch the final .of BINTM?

WingDefence · 05/10/2012 17:52

Guinea you made me laugh out loud on my packed train - that was inspired menu creation!

Your poor DD - I hope she does a wee soon, she must be so dehydrated :(

I forgot to say I wore my TFL Baby on Board badge for the first time this morning on the tube. I wasn't going to but once I saw the tube coming in on the platform at Euston was packed, I whipped it out of my bag and pinned it on.

It worked like a treat! I got on and immediately two women (of course no men noticed/got up... Hmm) so I stuck my fat belly out as far as I could and got a seat Grin

Definitely recommended for any of you travelling in London!

WingDefence · 05/10/2012 20:29

Back home :)

And yes, I did watch the BINTM final...

tiredteddy · 05/10/2012 20:37

I watched BINTM too! Love that programme. I liked the winner too.

FrustratedSycamorePants · 05/10/2012 20:38
