Brilliant positive attitude wing good luck for scan looking Forward to the update later!

Hooya · 24/09/2012 12:58

Nice one Wing - I do exactly the same thing of taking "work Hooya" attitude into these things, makes it much easier to stand up to bad service / treatment etc! Hope all goes well and you get some great pics!

I am just awaiting the next milestone - scan in another week, when I should be around 7 weeks so hoping we hear the heartbeat for the first time Smile

I am currently trying to use being pg to help me get through tough days at work. So every annoying meeting or email chaser I get, I just think "I don't care, I'm pg!" seems to be working so far Grin

WingDefence · 24/09/2012 15:01

Hello! Everything fine!

This sonographer was lovely, really chatty and friendly. She was really so nice. Naughty me hadn't drunk enough water (I was working until the minute we had to leave and forgot) and naughty baby wasn't in the right position for the first 15 mins so lovely sonographer said she and her colleagues had been discussing over lunch whether coffee and chocolate helped. I said I was ready to try(!) so I went to the onsite shop, bought a Twix, came back and after much prodding MiniWing got into the right position and we just got the scans done within my half hour slot.

She was so funny too, a really nice lady. I said I hadn't had a look at the baby last time (Envy that DH got to see it all last time and this time) so she spent the last five minutes going through and showing us MiniWing from top to toe.

I only wanted one photo (at that price Wink) so we got a nice one with the head and body but its little legs were off-screen.

What I didn't realise though was that after the scan I had to go to the antenatal clinic and wait another 45 minutes for height/weight and blood tests, filling in my green notes etc. Lovely midwife there but it meant we only got back ten mins ago and I'm just dialling into a teleconference.

But.... I am OFFICIALLY EXCITED NOW!!! Grin Grin Grin

tiredteddy · 24/09/2012 16:15

Yay yay HOORAY! So glad everything is looking good and you can get excited now wing Grin

WingDefence · 25/09/2012 08:43

Thanks Tired!

Off to London today. To tell work or not to tell work, that is the question...

FrustratedSycamorePants · 25/09/2012 14:54

..whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous pregnancy, or to tell all, and by exposing share them. Grin

tiredteddy · 25/09/2012 16:01

Do any of you clever ladies know if I can take lemsip or strepsils while pregnant I have such a sore throat today! Sad

FrustratedSycamorePants · 25/09/2012 17:37

Not sure teddy do they have paracetamol in them?

WingDefence · 25/09/2012 18:02

Evening all!

Frustrated you are funny Grin I told them at the end of my not-as-stressful-as-I-thought-it-was-going-to-be meeting and they were really happy for me! My Director (i.e. my boss's boss, head honcho) kept saying how good the timing was as I'll have finished this mad workload at the end of the year so get get the groundwork laid for some more work in the first quarter of next year and then go off. Phew!

They even asked me to think of someone to do my maternity leave and I suggested DH as he has roughly the same background as me and then I can help him and keep my finger in the pie (so to speak) while I'm off or just ignore it all and expect him not to screw things up

Tired I really don't think strepsils would be a problem, thinking of the active ingredients they have in them but you could try googling? Lemsip, Frustrated is right, just keep an eye on the paracetamol level and perhaps the caffeine, depending on which version you have. But if you are really suffering, then I'm sure you'll be fine for a day or two.

Ask the pharmacist if you're still not sure or try homemade remedies eg hot honey and lemon etc? Poor you :(

FrustratedSycamorePants · 25/09/2012 18:12

Are you allowed honey? just to complicate things

tiredteddy · 25/09/2012 18:25

Lemsip does contain paracetamol which I haven't taken any of today so wouldn't be taking too much. Packet says 1000mg paracetamol, 12.2mg phenylephine hydrochloride also absorbic acid (vitamin C) sucrose and aspartame.

I HATE honey. Boo. May have to struggle through til the morning when I luckily have a midwife appointment and can ask her.

WingDefence · 25/09/2012 18:38

Hmm, I've not heard you can't. I've been having it most mornings on my porridge anyway!

I think the Big Bad Nos are blue/unpasteurised cheeses and pate, meat cooked less than well done and runny eggs. Oh and tuna once a week instead of more often.

I ignore everything else (and no smoking and cut down on booze obviously) but the guidance seems to change an awful lot so honey may be on there covering my back!

ICompletelyKnowAboutGuineaPigs · 25/09/2012 19:10

I think honey is only not advised for under one year olds. I tend to ignore the guidelines about food! Though I have been having panics this week about medicines.

After another horrendous night last night and the paracetamol not working, I went back to the dentist this morning. I ended up at the Acute Dental Clinic at Leeds Dental Hospital and saw a student who was as baffled as my dentist. There is nothing obviously wrong inside my mouth and yet the pain is horrendous. Cue brilliant but arrogant oral surgeon who discovered after MUCH painful prodding and poking ... it's not even my wisdom tooth!! I have TMJ disorder which is a problem with my jaw joints. I also seem to have pulpitis on one of my molars, but my dentist sorted that. I can't take ibuprofen so I basically have to attach a hot water bottle to the side of my face!! I have been referred to s jaw specialist but there is really nothing much to be done, just have to continue wearing my nightguard (I clench my teeth in my sleep) and try to get the muscles to stop spasming.

I don't have a hot water bottle, I have a microwavable wheat-filled sheep - I'm going to look ridiculous but if it helps I'll try anything.

Hope your throat is feeling better Tired and glad it went well at work today Wing.

I really must go and bathe the children now

Anybody want a five and a two year old whilst I sleep for the next 2 weeks days?

tiredteddy · 25/09/2012 19:25

Yikes guinea your jaw sounds really painful. Poor you. Think you are right about the honey too. Hope the wheat bag helps and you feel better soon. I'll take the 5 and 2 year old but only in exchange for my 8 and 4 year old! Wink

WingDefence · 25/09/2012 19:53

Tired, I would just take the lemsip, seriously. It'll help you sleep too. disclaimer: I am not a medically trained professional person

Guinea that sounds terrible! I can imagine that having pain there makes you more likely to be clenching your jaw in that weird way that touching something that hurts sort of helps?

You two really are in the wars :( Have some Thanks for Guinea as Tired probably can't smell them and a Biscuit for Tired because *Guinea can't eat.

tiredteddy · 25/09/2012 21:10

To cheer myself up I've finally ordered a winter coat! The H&M sold out in my size in days in grey and I can't wear black as I'm very fair. So I've ordered the olive green parka from ASOS. Hope it's as warm as it looks!

ICompletelyKnowAboutGuineaPigs · 25/09/2012 21:56

Grin at Wing you're right I can't eat biscuits but managed a super soft bun earlier!

Coat sounds nice Tired though I think I'll save the child swap for another day but ask me again tomorrow!

tiredteddy · 26/09/2012 12:32

How ate you feeling today guinea ? Hopefully a bit better?

Hooya · 26/09/2012 14:40

Guinea and Tired how horrible - hope both feel better soon, I think paracetamol is fine and that's what's in Lemsip so I would go for it!

Congrats on the scan Wing , sounds lovely!

Frustrated I like outrageous pregnancy Grin v clever.

I had a bit more nausea today just enough to reassure me I am still pg nothing bad, but only 6+1 so I guess it could get a lot worse.

We are thinking of telling our parents after the next scan, when we should see a heartbeat (will be almost 7 weeks) is that ridiculously early?

tiredteddy · 26/09/2012 17:21

hooya we have always told our parents as soon as we know about each pregnancy. My opinion is that although it is early days they are the people I would need support from if anything happened and also I might burst if I don't get to tell someone! They were sworn to secrecy and the news properly spread after the 12 week scan.

DS2 bounced out of school today with a massive picture on a big piece of card. It's a very round mummy with a baby in my tummy! So cute x

WingDefence · 26/09/2012 21:06

Evening all - has anyone else been following the Swimbabes insane thread today? The OP has just wished everyone dead so I've reported her post :(

Anyway, onto happier things!

Hooya we told my DPs (PILs sadly no longer with us) fairly early on, probably 7 weeks. My reasoning was that if anything sad were to happen, I would certainly be telling them for support etc so best to tell them the happy news too IYKWIM?

Tired that's very cute! Hope you're feeling better btw? I told the preschool manager today (plus some of my old netball team) and apparently DS had mentioned something before about it so they did suspect...! But we haven't even told him yet!?! Hmm

Right, I'm off to Sheffield tomorrow to speak to a group of people about the work I'm doing, all of whom completely disagree with it. So that should be fun...

A least I only have to leave the house at 7:45 and will be back at 17:45...

Nighty night.

FrustratedSycamorePants · 26/09/2012 21:11

I hadn't wing just read the op and a could of end pages. Some people are very strange.

tiredteddy · 27/09/2012 07:59

FrustratedSycamorePants · 27/09/2012 14:58

Hope you're having fun shopping teddy

tiredteddy · 27/09/2012 19:09

Thanks frustrated I've had a fab day. Managed Oxford street and back within school hours! Got some lively new duvet sets for the boys, bright green with big grizzly bears on! A couple of Christmas presents for my sis and friend from the orla kierly at uniqlo. And couple of baby bits from H&M little scratch kits and bibs. Very tired now. Just waiting for ds2 to get back from judo and then I might go to bed too!
