Chefette I got a strange reaction from my mum too, a few have asked was it planned because dd2 will be 6, but I'm only 35 and dh 36 so I didn't think anyone would be shocked especially when we always said we wanted 4.

Questions like why would you start all over again, Emm because we want another baby

We'll all do a happy dance with you Grin

Lexiindisguise · 05/09/2012 13:57

Oooh - welcome tea and I will add you on ravelry! I'm just a beginner at crochet and can't knit but a colleague recommended I join. Getting very excited about crocheting a blanket for the baby :)
sarah big hugs - no surprise you are feeling a little vulnerable. Love the idea of the sky lantern.
chefette my mother was gobsmacked as thought DH & I were too career focused to have kids! Once she'd got over the shock she was over the moon! I was upset about it at the time though.

theTramp · 05/09/2012 14:19

Chef that's rubbish of them. It sounds like they'd written you off as someone who didn't want kids and you just shocked them. Hopefully they'll make up for their initial rubbsihness. People are funny.

I'm showing and worried that this is down to being too fat round tummy & having crap stomach muscles. I think whether you show PR you don't show you've something to worry yourself over.

I have thatChristine Hill book damef although I've only read a bit of it because I didn't want to go too far in pre 12 week scan. And a fellow marketer - huzzah! Comforting to know you share my cynicism. Although I'm not sure I'm quite that bad on the planning front.. That's my story & I'm sticking to it.

Btw - fab news re scan Chef!

Em2010 · 05/09/2012 14:41

sarah (hugs) hope you have a good appointment on Friday and you can have another scan to reassure you. What a lovely way to remember your mum. You can tell dc2 all about your mum and pass on the family traditions she taught you. My mum always says that children are your immortality. stealth your post about your mum made me cry! What a sweet, thoughtful mum you had.

Well you lot have given me the knitting bug although I haven't knotted for years and think I may have given away all my knitting things when we moved. Might have to have a little browse on eBay....

chef sorry about people's reactions. Dm was very unsupportive when I was pregnant with ds and just kept going on about me being too young and not having had a career. She's a fantastic granny now though.

Hello to everyone else, can't stay long as have tons of stuff to do before ds wakes up!!

tiddleypompom · 05/09/2012 14:54

Also a quick one as like em I have a stack to do before DS wakes! Just popped on to see how scans are going.

sarah poor you, a tough day. I too think the sky lantern was a lovely idea - and toffees a happy memory. Take care of yourself - your little bean will be fine :)

chef I am sorry you were underwhelmed at the scan & by reactions. People don't always think before they say do they? I eill have a relatively short age gap (17 mths) between dc and quite a few people have asked if this preg was planned. I have also had sympathy!! Upsetting at the time as we want to share our joy, but best to shake it off. Give that bump a rub & think about happy times to come - I always dream of camping trips with dc for some reason (harping back to happy times when me and db were little I expect). By the way, won't you be seen at 16 wks for checkup? That is my experience - this is when you get to hear heartbeat through a Doppler, which as someone else said, is almost better than the scan!

Right, back to it!

tedmundo · 05/09/2012 14:58

gummi - i will have a 4.5 yr gap between ds2 and this one. I LIKE the idea of them being that bit older. Why do people think the way they did it is best?!?

Saw consultant today, no scan BOOO, but it is up to be to me if I want a VBAC or ECS. Well, I still have 20 weeks to decide so will delay that for a while. I am on low dose aspirin for the rest of the pg due to my blood pressure.

Hope you are all enjoying this sunny wednesday.

Chefette · 05/09/2012 15:55

Aw Ladies thanks!

Sarah my sympathies totally with you x my mum would have loved sky lanterns also.

No 16 week scan in my neck of the woods. Literally seems you are on your own!!

Sneaking any thoughts as to next thread title? We'll need it by weekend?! Guess it should have scan/knitting in it some where? When will all of the marchers officially and collectively be in the 2nd trimester?

zoeymlucas · 05/09/2012 16:16

Think the March 13 anti natal will be the most threads EVER, lol!

I hate it people pressume there gap those chose betwwen DC is the 'right one' everyone is different and people do assume if you have too large or small a gap things werent planned!! I have 8 years between DS1 and DS2 and there will be 2 years between DS2 and baby bean just as DS is 2 in Jan
Sorry no scan ted but good news they are letting you decide if you want a VBAC or ECS and as you say plenty of time to think about it :)

Chef people have a lovely habit if they dont know what to say they blurt of the first rubbish that pops into there head with out thinking - ignore them and enjoy your pregnancy - we are all super happy for you if its any help :)

sundaesundae · 05/09/2012 16:28

who recommended the alpro choccie milk, it is gorgeous!!

I feel like a whale, I bought some bump bands and put on a fave pair of shorts that fit a week ago with a bobble and even with the bump band they are unwearable. I feel awful :o( I am sure it is all just lard and I feel like I am letting myself go and feel thoroughly ashamed. My BMI was below obese before I got pregnant, sure it isn't now. I seem to be living in a M&P dress, size 14 and I think it will see me most of the way through. Mat trousers and jeans are waaaaaay too big and now these bump bands aren't working (they are m/l so hold things up, but my tummy is just busting out of the top of the undone jeans and looks awful) I don't know what I am going to wear.

Sorry for the mememe whails, I just feel soooo fat.

JoJoBella84 · 05/09/2012 16:52

sundae it's irritating isn't it??! I have some size 12 maternity jeans that are way too big but all of my normal clothes are too small. I feel chunky!
I can't wait to have a real bumpy bump :)

sundaesundae · 05/09/2012 17:06

I'm glad I'm not the only one, I'm not even 12 weeks yet (apparently, grr, to me I am 13 + 2, to them 11+ 4 or some shit). I did eat a whole mini parissiane loaf and half a pack of butter yesterday... perhaps a bit of bloating and a bit of better eating will help a bit.

I am now wearing my mamas and papad yoga pant things, size 12/14 and I think these will last till 30 weeks at least, if I haven't worn them out.

Poo this stage of preggoness!

DoodleBugBee · 05/09/2012 17:08

Had scan today and we're a week out so now 11 weeks not 12. The Lentil is very much there and was magic to see it's heart and legs and definite nose Grin - now due on 27th March.

Best wishes to all with scans tomorrow xxx

sundaesundae · 05/09/2012 17:26

Congrats Doodle! Glad I am not the only one out on dates. Did you have the NT done?

theTramp · 05/09/2012 18:43

Lovely news doodle

Sundae - recommender of the alpro choccie milk would be me. It is fab isn't it. You get a sugar and milkshake hit in one, but its protein. Marvellous!

I'm also feeling meh clothes wise. I have decided that if this is the stage where healthy eating goes out the window in favour of carb fest, the next phase will be healthy and include swimming 3 times a week. I may still get big but I am going to develop some muscles whilst I am at it.

Meanwhile, trying to find clothes to wear is tough. Hey ho.

DoodleBugBee · 05/09/2012 18:48

We didn't as it costs £180 in our county Confused and so had bloods taken and will have to wait until 16 weeks+ until results. I think everyone's experiences are so different - we were whisked through the scan and a super quick consult with a nurse or midwife or other (she didn't identify herself as either...!), we had to ask if the Lentil was ok and cooking in the right place and had an abrupt "yes" and then sent for bloods - nothing like the relaxed and informative booking appt!

Awkward moment when I saw two work colleagues in the ante natal waiting room - I work in a large 450+ office so seeing colleagues I work with closely was a hoot, none of us knew about the others Smile

Now for a pre dinner dinner and to dig out my crochet hook - you've inspired me and this little Lentil is now more real than ever!

Xxx

sarahs999 · 05/09/2012 19:01

Ok. Just had the tastiest dinner and feel much better about life. Garlic fried with chard in olive oil and lemon, with spaghetti squash and gruyere cheese, all tossed together with some black pepper. YUM. And then I decided it was too small, so did tomatoes, basil and garlic on toast topped with more gruyere. Hmmm, think I have cheese and garlic cravings...

theTramp · 05/09/2012 19:29

Sarah that sounds yummy

tiddleypompom · 05/09/2012 19:33

'lumpy bumpy witty knitters (patiently) await the bloom'??

Oh maaaan, sarah that sounds heavenly!

Am having fishy stinky fish here :o

OP posts:
ThreeForTea · 05/09/2012 19:37

Chef sorry about that reaction, why can't people just assume that a new member of your family arriving, or a new human being being made is a good thing, unless informed otherwise!

Sarah that dinner sounds divine!

Thats hilarious about the collegues doodle! Did you make a pact not to tell?

After a good day yesterday I felt kind of peaky again today. Have been having pains in my side which i'm not sure about, right now have a temperature and headachey. Got a couple of hours of housework done today which means downstairs is more or less straight, Ikea heavy clutter control system in place and fully functioning! I'm going to go to the midwife drop in tomorrow to talk to her about how i'm feeling and get any more advice on how to speed up recovery. Was hoping to go to work on Friday but will have to really pace myself tomorrow to be up to it. Has anybody else been long term signed off work (now or ever before) while pregnant but without one of the headline conditions like hyperemasis (sp) or is it just pathetic me?

Chefette · 05/09/2012 20:12

Tiddley you've got the name thang going on girl!! Lumpy bumpy......etc gets my vote!

Feeling but better, told our neighbours in the village (that's a stretch there are only a dozen properties!) and got a hug and congrats from one and a whoop whoop from the other (the whooper is due 5 weeks before me!)

DP struggling manfully with top soil, I've done the washing.

We are debating about telling my work timing wise, but I am being planned into being major contributor to a large project nov-aug and feel its only fair to tell them it's not gonna be me for most of it!!! Me and DP got bets on about how crass my line manager will be, current faves are: bloody hell not you as well, did you sit on the same seat as the rest, that's one way to get out of your job, well you did say you wanted a changes of direction, you're a bit past it for rugrat rearing?

Angry !!!!!!!!

Have a nice eve all, and that meal sounded scrumptious, I am famished!!!

OodHousekeeping · 05/09/2012 20:16

three I was off for 3 months last time because I couldn't stay awake.

TeaOperated · 05/09/2012 20:53

Hello again!

chef sorry people were so unsatisfactory, sure they'll pull themselves together and be delighted when they've not surprised.

sarah glad you're feeling better - and I have serious dinner envy.

lexi ooh, I'll need to update it! No baby stuff for our Peanut just yet, but I'll be able to start soon!

Well, scan was amazing. Part of me was genuinely expecting there to be nothing in there, and the rest thought images would be blurry/hard to make out. But there was Peanut, waving, wiggling, kicking, sucking its thumb! DH got a bit teary - I was so desperate for the loo I was kept pretty down to earth!

And turned out we knew the sonographer - a neighbour we're on friendly hello terms with - and she was thrilled for us and utterly lovely.

I'm not as far on as dates suggested - 11 plus one - so I get another scan in a fortnight for the NT, fingers crossed.

And after work, we went to see a financial advisor and not only can we afford the house we've fallen in love with, but we should be able to halve our mortgage repayments - which with DH on part time hours and life about to get more expensive, is amazing.

Bit of a day! Knackered now, though!

tiddleypompom · 05/09/2012 21:15

Happy days tea, really pleased to hear it all went so well :) Brucie bonus at FA too, nice one! Tell us about the dream house?

In bed after loooong (but good) day. Up at 5.30am with DS who had 1.45 hrs naps in two chunks then asleep at 7.45pm. I then cooked dinner but was too shattered to enjoy it. Best go to sleep I reckon.

Night night

Great news, tea and welcome to the thread! :)

Manic day at work as usual, and now waiting for DH to come home with a Chinese takeaway... I'll be sleeping before he gets home if he doesn't hurry up! Stupid after work meetings!
