In relation to washable nappies, I would advise a similar approach to when you choose a buggy. Different people have different needs, expectations, and budget. Most folk will say theirs is best, but may not necessarily suit you, plus the baby may decide they do not like it, or it just does not suit them. Both my girls are extremely heavy wetters, for example, and some babies have skinny or chubby thighs, long bodies etc.
If possible go to a real nappy event, sometimes called nappichino or something equally twee. It is good to be able to see and feel them, and talk to other mummies about their experiences.
There are reviews on MN and elsewhere on the Internet. Read as many as you can, plus have a look at the nappy board. There are Facebook groups and other online communities dedicated to the things.
The nappy lady is a particularly well respected website, and she will advise you personally.
Check with your local council as they may do incentive schemes or trials.
Consider having a 'trial' of nappies, effectively a short term hire. Various companies offer these.
Consider buying a variety of pre-loved (pre-shat) nappies on eBay, although check they are not actually cheaper to buy new. I would encourage you NOT to buy a birth to potty kit unless you are absolutely sure they suit you and your baby.
I would not encourage use of washables until meconium is gone, and you are getting somewhere with feeding. Do not let it add to your stress. It should be fun, and is very addictive
