Yeah isaw that on the news too, I thought there was sonething a bit dodgy about him. They seemed to focus on him alot too rather than her parents.

ValiumQueen · 10/08/2012 19:46

Me too, but you always hope you are wrong. At least they have found her.

YellowWellies · 10/08/2012 19:57

I thought there was something abit dodgy about the family to be honest - I couldn't make sense of the maths - a 12 year old having a 40 year old Nan - bloody hell some folks make generations quickly.

Apple sorry to hear about your bro - my Dad has had a second family and his kids (my step bro and sis), perhaps its a generation thing, but my god they get EVERYTHING on a plate. It pisses me off sometimes that as a household of two higher rate tax payers the kids get better cameras, laptops (well not now I have a mac, ha) and other gadgetry and don't realise how lucky they are. I intend to treat our kid (s, if we can face another!) as equal as possible. My Mum bless her did, and with twins it's ultra important so I really treasure that she did that.

MissMummy good luck with landlady - good god she sounds horrific! xx

TheDetective · 10/08/2012 20:03

Puts shit into perspective rather....

:( Poor poor poor child. A life hardly begun.

VQ Basically, 37-42 weeks is full term, however when a baby is born by elective caesarean (and not had the stresses of labour prior) at before 39 weeks gestation, the risk of RDS (respiritory distress syndrome) is far greater. It can obviously happen at any gestation, but it was found to be much higher in babies born by c/s prior to 39 weeks.

I've seen it many times, in all kinds of gestations. But definitely increased among the elective sections. I've had 2 horrible cases with mums demanding c/s at 37 weeks due to previous history (won't specify what as too identifiable) and their babies ending up in SCBU for a while with RDS. It is very hard to say to someone that their choice to have an ELCS prior to 39 weeks was probably the cause. Obviously there are other factors... but that being the biggest.

Babies born at 37 weeks spontaneously generally do well, but even then, to be quite honest, they do still have breathing/feeding issues from time to time, more so than a later gestation baby.

Does that make sense?

ValiumQueen · 10/08/2012 20:26

Makes sense thank you. When DD2 was born (ELCS) her breathing was a bit funny and she was quite grey. They got the Paeds fella to look at her, anD all the time DH was saying 'she's fine, her sister grunted like that too' and I was saying 'I think these folk know a bit more than you darling'! She was fine. She was 39+5.

Passmethecrisps · 10/08/2012 20:27

Hello,

My goodness me I am grumpy today. Maybe a cup of tea and some ice cream will sort me out - either that or a damn good shake.

I have been busy researching the evidence behind having baby in with you for the first few months. It made interesting reading. I sometimes find myself checking the cat is breathing so I can't think I will be any different with a baby.

We did buy our cot mattress, sheets and a waterproof sheet today. Getting there.

missmummy I was just telling my DH about your issues with your landlady. As landlords ourselves we are endlessly shocked by the behaviour of other landlords. Good on you for sticking to your guns. DH did ask about your deposit. Are you hoping for that back? She sounds mental but you should fully expect the deposit back.

WaitingForMe · 10/08/2012 20:34

He kicked Grin

Once the kids were in bed I told DH how worried I was and he put his mouth to the bump and made his voice boom as he spoke. Got three clear kicks!

ValiumQueen · 10/08/2012 20:43

waiting well done Daddy! Good to hear.

pass perhaps you need a good shag? Often sorts me out Grin

Passmethecrisps · 10/08/2012 21:13

Hahahahahahaha valium that could well do the job. Icecream worked ok.

MissMummy1 · 10/08/2012 21:17

Passmethecrisps we kept the deposit in lieu of our final rent payment. We know ourselves the flat is in much better condition than when we moved in and she'd already told it we weren't getting it back (due to 1 empty teacup sitting in the sink on a spontaneous 'visit'). DH is an ex-HMO enforcement officer and basically used to make a living out of prosecuting landlords so is well accustomed to Scottish property law and our rights. Just annoying he's at sea when she starts her crap! Luckily we now have a beautiful home and *touchwood in a few weeks all the rubbish with her will be history. I pity whoever ends up with her next, although as I now know she's not a registered landlord I think our local council will be recieving a letter about her comical business practises...

MissMummy1 · 10/08/2012 21:20

Sorry that didn't make much sense - we withheld our final rent payment and told her to keep the deposit and any extra (about £200 I think) to cover any cleaning costs and wear and tear - there is none as I'm a bit OCD about perfection but I thought that would shut her up! Evidently not.

CandyPop · 10/08/2012 21:36

ooohhh passmethecrisps what type of mattress did u buy? I'm a little bit confused on whats best..spring, sponge, memory form...they seem to vary a lot in price too.
Was reading the mama and papas site but not sure if they just gear you up to buy the most expensive.

i just want to get whats good for the baby but not necessary the most expensive!

horseylady · 10/08/2012 21:44

Miss mummy I don't know what she could possibly want 2000 for? Surely you signed an indemnity list and that would be her only justification for keeping the deposit? Even then it's damned near impossible to refuse to refund it now days (ESP on a 6month contract and if she wants you out early?!)

I appreciate why you've done what you've done as I doubt she would you pay you back but she doesn't sound like she has a leg to stand on. Get onto the council, see what they say!

StuntNun · 10/08/2012 21:45

Anyone else feeling breathless in this hot, humid weather? I feel like a big useless lump but DH isn't around lol. I can't seem to get enough oxygen. Baby is quiet today too, wee wriggles rather than his usual hard kicks to the bladder.

OP posts:
horseylady · 10/08/2012 21:49

Stunt I feel stupidly dizzy. In fact I'm amazed I've not fainted!!!

Figures it was low bp and iron!!

Baby evidently does not have enough room inside me and is still under my ribs kicking!!! 12 weeks of this!!! It's the strangest feeling ever?!

MissMummy1 · 10/08/2012 21:52

2000 is the apartment's annual factoring bill (insurance, gardening, communal cleaning etc). It's an over-priced joke but I have it in writing it's included in the rent so I'm damned if I'm paying it!

We are slowly building a huge case against her with copies of her fake solicitor letters, abusive texts/emails and a diary I started keeping when I realised she was taking it upon herself to spy on us from the carpark - later escalating to letting herself in the flat whenever it suited her.

I know I probably sound like the tenant from hell not paying my last month's rent but I can assure you I'm really not! I have numerous glowing references from several different landlords when I was a student and always pride myself on the fact I keep my home immaculate and in perfect condition - regardless of whether I actually own it or not.

Arghh sorry for offloading! I think rl friends/family have had enough of my moaning lol

ValiumQueen · 10/08/2012 21:54

Breathless here too. Probably because my big useless lump is sitting in just his shorts. Yum yum Grin

Life is not much easier with the cast off. Foot hurts a lot more, but probably because I am trying to do more. Still, a few more weeks on sick pay is less time with no income at the end.

Night night ladies x

ValiumQueen · 10/08/2012 21:58

misMummy nothing you have said has ever sounded like you are anything but an ideal tenant.

Baby has started with the scratching the last few days, you know, how cats do with their paws? Right on my hip bones. So tickly! DD1 used to do it, but DD2 never did. She just thumped and kicked and shoved her butt out. Nothing much has changed with her. My little thug.

horseylady · 10/08/2012 22:01

If it's written it's included in the rent then she's not got a leg to stand on.

I would rather have rent and return deposit but that's because of how everything is set up for us and the deposit is held by a third party. You sound reasonable lol she sounds horrific!! We walk past our properties but never ever enter without permission!! We rarely have a need to! She sounds like a control freak!

MissMummy1 · 10/08/2012 22:09

In the past Horsey that's always the way I have operated too. It's a trust thing and quite frankly I do not trust her one bit. She's rude, abusive and above all downright unprofessional. I know for a fact my deposit is not being held by a third party. The deposit is also more than a month's rent so she'll actually benefit. Urghh I could go on forever about what she's put us through but won't. I'm a strong believer that karma will come around and sort her out and there's nothing either of us can do to make her life any worse than it already is.

horseylady · 10/08/2012 22:13

Just ignore her. Report her if you can as we hold the deposit with a third party to protect everyone. As I said our tenants are generally long term! I like to think for a reason!!

Annoying though as the stupid laws etc are written for people like her!!!

I'm being beaten up from the inside!!!

Passmethecrisps · 10/08/2012 22:59

She's not registered missmummy? What a surprise. There are new rules coming in next year with regard to what landlords can do with deposits. Basically it must be kept by a third party so it allows some independent view on whether or not costs genuinely have been incurred. Too many landlords see the deposit as a wee bonus and will give any excuse not to return it. We have been there as tenants.

candy the mattress was a pocket sprung cot bed mattress from mothercare. With 15% off as it was over £100 it came to just over £100. Pretty pleased with that. It is so confusing though. I know DH had been keen on a coir, organic wool one but the costs just made it a no brainier just to go with the pocket sprung. We applied the same rules to the cot mattress as we did when we bought our own mattress. Pocket springs last longer than springs.

Passmethecrisps · 10/08/2012 23:01

Oh, and missmummy leave her a parting gift of a report to the housing section of your council. She could be in for a hefty fine if she doesn't have all the documentation, safety certificates, energy certificates and so on. Your DH will be all over that though I would reckon.

GTbaby · 10/08/2012 23:49

Taken ages to catch up. Usually read throughout day , but today despite doing nothing all day haven't had energy to do anything at all. Still was achy today after yesterday.

Re GD test. Couldn't eat after 10pm. Try eat some good complex carbs as I was hungry by 11! Tried to sip water all night and in morning. First blood test was at 9.15. Then was given lucazade original to drink. Wasn't to bad actually. As I read on anther thread try to sip over given 10mins rather then glugging down in one go. Then see MW for check up n waited till about 11.30 for 2nd blood test. I had a packet of MnMs in bag for when I got out. was meant to be a healthy banana, which I forgot to pick up in morning. Blush.

Trying to think of little bits n bobs to put on my list for baby shower. Ppl keep asking me what I want so compiling a list of things that cost £5-15 so I can tell ppl who ask. So any ideas would be great as many of u have bought things already!
So far I have, children's bed time books, muslins, baby hooded towels, changing mat.

ValiumQueen · 11/08/2012 07:06

A nice idea I saw was for everyone to bring a sleepsuit that reflected an element of their personality and everyone had to guess who brought what. All hung on a washing line type thing. I think we could all guess horseys
