waiting, a cleaner sounds like it will help you to feel a bit more in control of things around the house. We got out cleaner when I was pregnant with DS1 and it does help massively knowing that even if the place is a complete pig sty, at least it is a clean pig sty.

It takes time to get your head around the changes that come with being pregnant and having children so you are not alone when you feel down about things you used to be able to do and can't realistically do now. Eventually you will get used to your new reality, find new routines and will start to feel comfortable with your new life. Just remember that it takes time to get there.

Chunkychicken · 06/08/2012 10:17

Good that you're starting to recognise that, as it were Waiting rather than have the baby & get really worked up that it can't be that way anymore iyswim. It's all part of the adjustment process that happens during pg. You'll find a balance somehow. :)

I think you're right Valium. I'll just watch the Preloved/eBay listings & hope something perfect comes up. I did really like the look of the Bugaboo Donkey & Baby Joggers in John Lewis, so who knows, maybe we'll get lucky??!!! Hmm

I had a loverly do-nothing day yesterday & was still knackered! Apart from the severe lack of energy, I am (currently) enjoying being pg. Bump is visibly wriggly, hips are minimally stiff/achey so very manageable, bump is still small enough to allow me to forget about it mostly and feeling fit & well. 25wks today, so it won't be long before its all back to being poo I'm certain!!! Grin The only giggle is the scar tissue from my appendicitus/appendectomy incision above my belly button is getting pushed out & is quite sore.

WaitingForMe · 06/08/2012 11:03

Thanks rowing and Chunky. I'm finding quite a few people in RL being rather unhelpful. Even a good friend who recently gave birth seemed to almost revel in the knowledge that my "perfect" house was a ticking time bomb Sad

I can normally laugh off teasing about my OCD (though it annoys me that it's seen as a comedy mental illness and not one that genuinely upsets and challenges me) but I seem to be more defensive at the moment. It's as though my clean and tidy home is interpreted as a judgement on others when the reality is I struggle to focus on my work or relax if it isn't. I have never commented on anyone elses level of cleanliness or tidiness incidentally as I'd think that was rude!

horseylady · 06/08/2012 11:16

Waiting I have a cleaner who keeps on top of the big jobs!! You just need to make sure they know what you want.

With regards to how I do stuff I always have, so for me I'm slowing down, but its just how you view slowing down etc and what you did to start with!

I'm hoping I don't get this spd thing. Sounds horrific massive huge hugs to all of you suffering!! In work today :)

TitsalinaBumSquash · 06/08/2012 11:18

waiting I have OCD tendencies, I get really stressed when the house is untidy, I simply can't relax when there is mess around so I really feel for you, I hope a cleaner will be able to ease your mind a little. Smile

kissyfur · 06/08/2012 11:43

I'm faced with the prospect of cleaning the bathroom, hoovering the house and finishing tidying up when I finish work, when all I want to do is sleep! Maybe I should look into getting a cleaner too, very Envy of those of you who have one!

Really feel for those of you suffering with SPD, sounds awful Sad

DesperateHousewife21 · 06/08/2012 12:20

Ive been sick again :( I think it was something I ate at the BBQ yesterday because my sister and her dd has had funny tummies too.
I'm trying to keep water down, def can't keep any food down. I had a google and as long as I stay hydrated then baby should be ok. She's been kicking loads today so I think she's fine.

kissyfur · 06/08/2012 12:24

Oh no DH21 hope you feel better soon

ValiumQueen · 06/08/2012 12:46

DH your baby will be fine, but do make sure you seek medical help if you are showing signs of dehydration. Maybe it is a stomach bug that your family also has, as usually food poisoning is very quick onset and clearly identifiable. Hope you are soon better.

In relation to concerns about not being able to do the things you did before baby, once you see baby and fall in love with baby, those things just will not matter so much anymore.

waiting have you had help from your GP about the OCD? There are therapies and medications that can help, although probably not recommended in pregnancy. Hope the cleaner helps ease your mind, but I have yet to find one that does it as well as I would, and I am a slattern!

WaitingForMe · 06/08/2012 12:56

I've had therapy Valium and am very highly functioning these days Grin I've got a variety of techniques I use and DH is a great source of support. It rarely gets me down any more, it's just that pregnancy is presenting a few new challenges. I'm actually very calm about finding solutions and am confident that my 3-fold plan of getting DH to do a bit more, hiring help and letting go on a few things will work fine.

I just read a few threads in pregnancy and feel like a proper pregnant lady now. Makes me smile how not long ago we were all throwing up and wondering when it would end (not yet for poor DH it seems). Yes PGP sucks but it's so nice to be in the final trimester with a proper bump and a first draft of a birth plan.

Even if it does freak me out a bit that people can tell I'm pregnant - I have to stop myself asking "how did you guess" and remember I'm sporting a very noticeable bump!

ValiumQueen · 06/08/2012 13:21

That is good to hear waiting

I am having a better day today, my bump seems to have shrunk. Yesterday it felt like he was standing on my backbone and pushing my belly button out, with the odd star jump added for good measure.

chunky you clearly have good taste in doubles!

Chunkychicken · 06/08/2012 13:24

Flat coke or diarolyte will help keep your electrolytes up DH along with as much water as you can stand. I had a nasty bug when pg with DD. The GP prescribed diarolyte & gaviscon after I'd spoken to them on the phone, so if need be, give them a call. Just rest up and get better soon.

ValiumQueen · 06/08/2012 13:30

Not diet though, needs to be fat coke. 7up is good too. Fat 7up obv.

MissMummy1 · 06/08/2012 13:36

I had a cleaner in one of my flats while at uni as it was included in the rent - it wasn't a 'student flat' so I think landlord sneekily used it as a way of keeping an eye on the place. I was a touch ocd then - mainly with washing my hands 100 times a day - but found myself redoing a lot of the cleaning myself as they hadn't done it 'my way'.

I've become a lot more chilled now and like DH am seeking to use as few chemicals as possible, so obsessively bleaching worktops 2/3 times a week is definitely a thing of the past! We bought a steam cleaner a few months ago. It was expensive but makes cleaning so effortless (and for my neurotic tendencies I know everything will be perfectly sanitised!) Plus because it's a bit of a 'gadget' DH doesn't moan about helping out around the house anymore hehe. I do worry it will get to the point where I won't be able to keep on top of housework, but like someone else said, as ling as everything is hygienic enough then what does it really matter if there's a bit of clutter and not all the washing is up to date?? (she says now...)

WaitingForMe · 06/08/2012 13:48

MY PRAM HAS ARRIVED!!!

I just built it and pushed it around the living room and felt like a little kid playing dollies. I keep looking at the bump then looking at the pram and nope, does not compute.

(What kind of steam cleaner do you have MissMummy? I've been thinking about getting one)

kissyfur · 06/08/2012 13:54

missmummy I have just been reading steam cleaner reviews! They sound great, what one do you have?

ValiumQueen · 06/08/2012 13:57

What did you get again waiting?

MissMummy1 · 06/08/2012 13:57

If you type 'eco steam master 2 in 1' into eBay it should come up. It's green and white and has a detachable handle so you can either use it as a mop type thing or handheld for doing things like worktops and bathroom tiles (if you're anything like me you'll be disgusted by how much black yucky stuff comes out your immaculate looking white tile grout!) It really is the best thing we've bought in ages - even took red wine out of carpet - and best bit is it uses zero chemicals but kills all bacteria/germs. Yay!

You've probably already said but what buggy did you go for? I still can't get my head around the fact that in 3ish months time there's going to be a teeny tiny small person that we are responsible for joining our nest!

Passmethecrisps · 06/08/2012 14:00

waiting it's a really weird thing that people take pleasure in imagining things happening which they know will make you unhappy. Schadenfreude is a strange thing. It's the same as all the 'oh, you make the most of your lie-ins/nights out/peace and quiet/ etc etc' It makes me wonder why anyone has babies at all! Obviously I know things will change but there are surely good things.

On the flip side we are having to train ourselves to be much more organised. We couldn't get a cleaner really as there is just too much stuff lying about.

We have ordered the cot bed. The Henley from babies are us. Second big purchase. We need to get a mattess now. DH is very keen on an organic wool one - we have one so I think he feels LO should have one to. As it will last 5 years it is likely to be a good investment. We would get one from Ikea but they don't do the right size.

lovely friends have offered us various things. It is funny though because then. They say "oh, you'll not want our rubbish" I keep saying that we really, really do want it! As long as they are happy with us passing it on if we don't want it then we will take whatever we are given!

ValiumQueen · 06/08/2012 14:00

It won't take long to sink in once it arrives. After the first night, it will seem extremely real, and you will struggle to remember what life was like before the little darling arrived.

MissMummy1 · 06/08/2012 14:01

(PS the one on eBay we bought on eBay is about £50 or offers and I put it a cheeky offer and won it for £35! The cheapest we've seen the same one is £99)

Passmethecrisps · 06/08/2012 14:04

Yay for prams arriving!

miss I am the same. I keep looking at babies and thinking 'we are getting one of them!' Everyone else seems to look so comfortable and self-assured. I am certain that DH and I will spend the first wee while just staring at it.

horseylady · 06/08/2012 14:14

I think I'll probably cry. A lot.

12 weeks, 10 weeks left at work. Omg.

Still debating booking a private scan. It'll be too late soon!

WaitingForMe · 06/08/2012 14:19

It's the Mamas and Papas Sola in Plum. We got the carry cot attachment which makes it look like a proper old fashioned pram (we live near the town centre and GPs, baby groups etc are all walking distance) plus travel seat and base and the buggy bit for when he outgrows the carry cot. Plus change bag and umbrella.

It cost more than my car Shock

I think I'll get one of those cleaners. Thanks MissMummy (Most have seemed very expensive and nobody I know has one - you lot know fall under my definition of real people if that makes any sense).

MissMummy1 · 06/08/2012 14:32

Hahaha waiting you've just reminded me of a meltdown DH had in John Lewis a few weeks ago that we were "not spending more on a bloody pram than we had on my car!" Safe to say we bought the Mothercare my3 over the iCandy apple jogger... The Sola looks lovely and if it weren't for the fact we wanted something a bit rugged for walking the dog on the coastal path we might have gone for it.

I think the fact everyone on here have the same complaints as me make you lovely ladies seem very real - much more helpful than several 'real life' people I can think of!!

Steam cleaner is defs a good investment, and if nothing else it's a really effective mop for kitchen floor. The white pad things can be cleaned in washing machine so there's no need to buy any more. Good luck with it!
