random I can't believe how badly you were treated by the first dr and nurse, I read the post you put up when you got that diagnosis and was reduced to tears and I'm so so happy for you that your jellybean is alive and well.

Had a day with very little nausea today, I'd like to think the bacon toastie at lunch was the cause of this ;) it took me ages to eat my sultana bran at breakfast this morning. Do you think it could be a meat craving? My diet is pretty much vegetarian normally, DH is strict veggie and I don't like to cook meat at home. With the nausea my protein intake hasn't been the best!

manda omg I love Muse, especially live, amazing showmen. At least the twins would get a good education in music! My husband is adamant that he's going to play classical music when jellybean starts hearing, don't think it will have much of an effect going by what music I play all day!

kirsty fingers crossed for you, I hope everything is ok x

HermioneBoo · 27/07/2012 20:56

Oh and my jellybean is a triathlete, red wine loving and loves a good dance!

mandasand · 28/07/2012 00:59

evening all
looking forward to catching up with all your news tomorrow.
just wanted to check in and ask whether I should be worried that I had a bit of a funny turn earlier. twenty minutes of quite big cramps (uterine, but stomach) but then I had twenty minutes of hot sweats, diarrhoea and feeling like I needed to vomit (not like the pregnancy nausea).
the only time I've felt like this before when I had a 24-hour bug. it was just weird that it came immediately after the cramps. no bleeding, so assume all is okay. but be good to know if anyone thinks I should be more worried!
night all xx

JoJoBella84 · 28/07/2012 07:56

manda it might be worth checking with gp or midwife. I experienced something similar just now. Woke up feeling fine which is unusual! went to the loo and diarrhoea, cramps, need to vomit general feeling rough. It's easing now but the cramps still occasionally stabbing me on the abs! I'm glad I'm not the only one! Might be all the sugar I ate yesterday!

mandasand · 28/07/2012 08:14

Morning all. Sorry for last night's late-night panic. My very brief tummy bug didn't make a reappearance overnight and I slept like a log. Slept through most of yesterday afternoon, too (don't tell my boss!!) I think these new pregnancy-friendly antihistamines are contributing to general knackered-ness so will try harder to take one in the evening before bed, rather than at lunchtime (d'oh!)

Got up early to catch up with a bit of work form yesterday. Off to Swanage on the south coast soon for our first wedding anniversary - steam train, ice cream and paddling in the sun, we're hoping.

JoJo sorry to hear you too had similar symptoms. Hope they pass as quickly as mine did. Let me know if you decide to phone GP or MW. For the moment I'm reassured by a website that said a tummy bug can't affect unborn child. How wonderful to have that nursery nurse training behind you Smile Really interesting to hear about that observation booth. I do think of kids as a bit of an experiment. Have you read Why Love Matters: How Affection Shapes a Baby's Brain by Sue Gerhardt? (Not that I'm approaching parenthood in an academic way or anything, haha!) It's a fascinating read. Read it years ago but just skimming through it again now. And, undoubtedly, you need to chuck out OH's bathroom scales, or cover it with a more positive message!

Shimmy, my DH has mentioned getting the snip if these two arrive safely!

NutBiscuit, sorry to hear about your panic this week. You did the right thing going straight to A&E. Very reassuring, and even more so when you go back in a couple of weeks to see and hear that little heart pumping away Smile

Ethelred ooooh yes please tell us all about the hypnobirthing! I think the dizziness is a natural thing at this stage. Something to do with our BP lowering (tho I can't remember more than that). Sneezacake big thanks for the link to the hypo CDs - I'm sorely tempted, but may leave it until I'm a bit further along. Like prams and cots and stuff I'm going to wait until after the 20-week scan, if I can hold out (we'll see!) What an inspiration your friend is, by the way! That's the ideal birth for me, but I accept that I'm also crap with pain and may well need to have drugs galore!

Yay for good MW appt, Lexi!

Welcome flapjack (and good name!) I'm not far behind you at almost 38 with my first!

Nice to have you back in the fold, random! Still amazed by your story and just thankful (for all the doc's ineptitude) that they were idiots rather than something being wrong with your precious bean. Yay! But you definitely need to write a sternly worded letter to express all the unnecessary stress and emotional turmoil you've been put through.

Hermione sounds like your bean is going to have a thoroughly rounded musical education! Smile I'm going to be a bit sad if I have to miss Muse, boo. Their light shows are just amazing. (Triathons, by the way?! My friend regularly tries to tempt me but after collapsing for a week after a half marathon a couple of years back I'm sceptical, to say the least. Cycling long distances no problem, but I'm a bit crap at swimming. Seriously impressed!)

sneezecake · 28/07/2012 08:17

manda if your worried give NHS direct a ring, they might be able to shed some light on it, or direct you to someone who can, I could have been a bit of a bug, or maybe something you've eaten with your body didn't like, could it have been bowel cramps?
Hope you managed to get some rest xx

sneezecake · 28/07/2012 08:18

Sorry x post glad your ok

sneezecake · 28/07/2012 08:55

Have just realised my tummy has ballooned and I feel so sick! Well that'll teach me for complaining I have no symptoms!

JoJoBella84 · 28/07/2012 09:13

Okay ladies I have a thing... I'm not sure how to respond to my thing because since finding out about the pg it's kind of gone on the back burner!!! My OH proposed in February, it was all very romantic and wonderful news but we'd decided to hold off until 2014 so that we could save up enough money to have a nice do and I would have finished my degree etc.
This morning, out of nowhere, OH asked me if I fancied a quick wedding before baby arrives, so registry office followed by curry at our favourite restaurant before I'm too big to fit into a pretty dress!
Now I'm not against the idea of getting married earlier than planned but it would have to be a really cheapy do.
I have been married before and that was in a registry office too but I've always said if I ever marry again I'll do things properly, not rush into it and definitely never marry in a registry office again (the last one was horrid!).
I'd love to be married before baby arrives, it would mean planning a September wedding though! Is it unrealistic? Should I just stand my ground and stick with the 2014 plan?! Crikey, this morning I was waiting for the postie to bring me my scan referral (still not here) and thinking about revision for my exam, now I'm thinking of planning a wedding and completing the house sale on 24th aug... Brain in overdrive!!!
Ultimately deep down I know it really doesn't matter where we tie the knot, our families will be there and that's all that matters.

Anyhoo... Enough about me:

manda I haven't read that one, I do love that kind of thing though. There is a book I recommend about milestones for those that are interested by Mary Sherridan (think that's the correct spelling) From Birth to 5 Years. I used it a lot when training and still use it now studying Physio as I'd like to specialise in paediatrics. It's not a typical text book very easy read with month by month guidelines etc! Obviously everything is backed up with evidence. Not a particularly expensive one but for first time parents who might be concerned if baby isn't sitting up by a certain age etc it's quite reassuring!

everyone else I hope your weekend has started well, mine is picking up but I think it's going to be a day infront of the laptop studying the shoulder and special tests :(

sneezecake · 28/07/2012 09:36

jojo my DS sees his physio every month or so they are all fantastic and a great support int he early days, even now his physio is a star and we owe her so much for getting DS up and walking when everything was so bleak to begin with, good luck with the degree, i'm sure you will be great too. I wish I could retrain to be a physio but too much on my plate already!
Re the wedding, we had a cheepy wedding in a nice hotel, I don't regret having getting married but I would have changed certain things, like doing it in April in the middle of a snow storm Hmm
I'd say go with what your heart says if you want to hold out for a big wedding then wait, if you want only your nearest and dearest then do the cheepy.

mandasand · 28/07/2012 09:37

JoJo: VERY briefly as we're nearly out the door ... we got engaged in Cornwall last May and married in Saltaire at the end of July (we reasoned we were too old to hang about, didn't want to be engaged but actually married, and DH's father had terminal illness). We live in Oxford so it felt like it was going to be impossible to arrange at a distance, but it turned out to be just fine - did it all with maybe three weekends up north. It was not a church do, as that wasn't for us, but a beautiful room in a 19c building for the ceremony; then a vintage coach, then cream tea on a steam train, then the coach again to a real ale country pub where we had a Sunday roast (well, I had some veggie option!) We limited it to 30 close friends and family and it was the most perfect day. Cost around £3K but if we hadn't have had the coach it would have been closer to £2K. So, you can do something special whilst also working within a reasonable budget and to a tight schedule Smile Just don't get sucked in too much by the wedding 'machine' would be my advice and do it your way!

Anyway, how EXCITING!! xx

shieldbug · 28/07/2012 09:49

kirsty any news? I do hope everything is ok.
JoJo Wow! That really is a THING! Is it possible that you could do a non-registry office wedding by September? Would you want it in a church? It might be worth seeing if anywhere has a slot free - perhaps a midweek wedding would be the way forward as church/other venues are more likely to be unbooked. It's the catering that's the most expensive part of a wedding, so perhaps you could all pile down the restaurant afterwards- might be rather fun! On the other hand don't feel pressurised into doing something you're not fully happy with; after all, you could have your LO as a bridesmaid/page boy if you wait Smile. It would also reduce some of the pressure on you; planning a wedding now would be a lot to take on.

Ok I have a really stoopid question that I should remember from last time. When you are all giving your number of weeks, are you counting from your LMP or your estimated date of conception? I seem to remember it's from the LMP, in which case I think I'm 5 weeks. This matters, because I have started to balloon in a seriously scary way. I'm like giant bamboo- if you watch carefully, you can see me grow (outwards). It's all cos of the fibroids, but in one week I've gone from a "slightly rounded" abdomen to a "looks about 4-5 months pg" belly. Seriously, no exaggeration involved. If I didn't know about the fibroids I would be terrified; as it is I'm a little bit freaked out by the speed of the changes. It's all the more noticeable as I am not generally very large. Should I see a gp- is this all horribly wrong? I'm meant to be fast-tracked, but I've not heard a thing from the mws. I'm not going to have to tell anybody the news-they can all see straight away!

randomswitch · 28/07/2012 09:54

Jojo a sept wedding is doable but you will struggle to get a wedding dress ordered by then. We organised our wedding in six months which I thought was ages but all the dress shops were horrified and said I had to order within a week or they couldn't guarantee it would be there in time! Mind you my friend got a lovely dress from a shop that sells on wedding dresses which have (obviously) only been worn once. So that's a way to get a dress more quickly.

Ethelred. And mandas i am thinking of hypnobirthing too. Quite fancy a water birth but have extremely low pain thresholds, so will need something to calm me if I do go down this route! And Mandas glad to hear you scare is over, hope you have a lovely wedding anniversary! I heard that tiredness is caused in early preg by you body needing to create more blood so your blood temporarily thins which makes you tired, so might not be the antihistamines?

Hermione, I am a veggie and am too struggling with protein intake! I don't eat legumes or pulses much anyway as don't tolerate them well. And ms has put me right off nuts and eggs. Hmm, guess will have to eat lots of cream in form of cream cakes to get protein! I'm thinking may have to temporarily fall off veggie wagon till ms passes. Maybe a fish cake......

randomswitch · 28/07/2012 09:59

Shield bug, dating is usually taken from last menstrual period but this only applies if you have regular four week cycles!!! Anyway, age of baby is conception date plus two weeks if your cycle is not regular
I don 't know anything about fibroids but you should phone the midwife if you are concerned which you understandably are. There should be an out of hours number you can call at weekend.

randomswitch · 28/07/2012 10:09

Sorry should have said age of pregnancy, not baby, is. Conception plus two weeks.

JoJoBella84 · 28/07/2012 10:16

Thanks ladies, I'd seen a lovely dress in monsoon for £200, but obviously would need to wear it before bump shows as monsoon don't do a maternity range in bridal wear!
We're not religious shieldbug so a church was never the plan but I was hoping for a lovely hotel or building with character (such as the hospitium for those of you who know York)! There is a lovely barn close to my parents in east Yorkshire, I could contact them and see what they charge!
They don't do big events so could be perfect!! Wedding and a BBQ (much more my style)!!
I hope I don't come across as being a bit selfish for not wanting to marry in a registry office! It's just that I don't intend to do it again my OH is my soulmate :) I'd like something to look back on and think yes, I did that right!
The steam trains and cream teas sound delightful as does real ale and Sunday roast manda all of that would tick every box for the OH's family (and me!!).
hermione and random although I'm not a veggie whe I'm in student accommodation I eat a veggie diet as meat is so expensive on my budget, I think that's why I can't eat enough meat at the moment, I am eating bits if chicken at breakfast, craving bacon, burgers, lamb shank...

kirsty80 · 28/07/2012 18:55

Hey everyone! Thank you for all your caring words! I'm sorry I've not been in touch sooner! So I went to the hospital and by this stage was bleeding quite a bit. They thought it may be an eptopic pregnancy because my hcg levels were 'worryingly high'?! I didn't realise they could be? Any how they scanned me and kept me overnight and I came home today - exhausted with a picture of my seven week baby with strong heart beat and all looking great! I can't tell you how relieved both me and hubs are!

Jojo - this is all very exciting!!! Hubs and I had a big wedding and I always think if I had my chance again I would wear a pretty dress and have a really informal reception with mates - hog roast/ pub lunch lots of dancing! I hate thinking about how much money we spent on silly things that we really didn't need! Or the meals we paid for for people we've hardly seen in the past 7 years!!! I think you shod go for it!

I'm now going to pour myself a glass of sainsburys alcohol free rose wine, munch on some galaxy and catch up on what you have all been upto! X

JoJoBella84 · 28/07/2012 19:05

kirsty phew, what a massive relief! Did they find the cause of the bleed?

HaitchJay · 28/07/2012 19:37

kirsty

I'm getting a lot of aches today, hopefully it's just my scars stretching out but have stayed on the settee as much as possible anyway.

GummiberryJuice · 28/07/2012 20:06

Jojo I think the barn idea sounds brilliant if your not religious then doing it your way is definitely the way to go

Kirsty that's great news, did they know what caused the bleeding

Shieldbug I don't know anything about fibroids, but my friend had twins and she got big quite quickly, I would ring midwife anyway, and it might speed up your referal too

I can't remember what else I was going to say

Was feeling abit crampy yesterday and
a some nausea today, still no scan date for me either jojo or shield. Fingers crossed we all get them in post on Monday

Hope everyone has a good weekend

kirsty80 · 28/07/2012 20:47

gummi they just said the pain could be to do with the scar tissue from having my appendix taken out 6 years ago and my c-section 3 years ago and they couldn't explain the bleeding but as soon as they said that baby was ok I didn't really listen to much else! I think they kept me in because of the absolute hysterical mess I had gotten myself into. Very scary times! I knew I wasn't miscarrying though because I've got such strong symptoms - sore boobs and sickness so I was just scared that it was eptopic.

I hope everyone else is doing ok x x

newyearsday · 28/07/2012 20:50

I'm keeping up with reading news but I can't retain enough info in my brain to name check everyone.

I got my scan date through, it's 20th August, 3wks on Monday. If all goes well with the scan I'm also planning to do hypnobirthing, and will look into either a doula or IM for the labour/birth.

Shieldbug, definitely speak to your mw or gp. I have fibroids but they're small (1-2cm). In my 1st pg they were visible on the 1st scan but as the womb stretched they disappeared and weren't visible on the 2nd.

random, I can't believe what happened to you! You have every right to feel angry, I hope you do make a complaint because it's appalling the stress they've put you through. Hope you can enjoy your pregnancy in peace now.

jojo, I'm a very impatient person so when the love of my life popped the question at glastonbury I was all up for a quick wedding in the Sept. But DH calmed me down (he does that) and we actually got wed in the Feb, which meant I really enjoyed all the preparations. Listen to your heart I say Wink

I'm so fed-up of feeling tired, drained and nauseas. Little man started walking this week! It's the wkend so dh took over as primary parent (he's a star) and I was in my pjs today until 4pm. Feel like such a lazy good-for-nothing! Roll on the 2nd tri energy!

BTW I spotted an April 2013 thread - we're no longer the newbies!

MrsRigby · 28/07/2012 20:52

Evening everyone.

The boys are in bed and I've managed to get rid of DH for the evening. Sat watching The Million Pound Drop and wondering if anyone else thinks Jon Culshaw looks like Lord Alan Sugar!

I got my due date wrong, I'm actually due 25th March (fingers crossed). 5 weeks and 5 days today and the baby is the size of a lentil according to my app (though it doesn't specify whether that's a red lentil or a puy lentil and in any case it looks more like a yellow split pea, but thats okay because we're a house of vegetarians).

I'm still checking my pants and tissue everytime I go the toilet (before doing so saying a little prayer and holding my breath) and I'm still peeing on the Clearblues. I'm going to pee on the digital with conception indicator Monday and hopefully all being well with the pregnancy I'll see 3+ on the display (as well as PREGNANT obviously). Unbelievable scared of this not going to term, although neither DH or I have the bad feeling that we had with the missed miscarriage.

I'm so scared of miscarrying that DH and I are not having sex (not that we have it much anyway) and I haven't dared go the gym or get a wax.

Still no pregnancy symptoms - possibly one of the luckiest pregnant women on the planet. With my previous 3 pregnancies I never had any symptoms either. Pregnancy and childbirth was a doddle!!!

Well, I say no pregnancy symptoms, but I have diarrhoea and really bad tummy cramps. Googling as you do and the word 'twins' has come up more than once, which if it were, I would be absolutely elated by. DH not so much (understatement). Although I don't have any pregnancy symptoms, this pregnancy does feel different from my previous 3, but I don't know why. Also with the 2 that went to term, I knew they were boys (even though everyone, especially mother-in-law was insisting they were girls), but this 1/2 I couldn't even hazard a guess. I'm feeling these little tickly, bubbly sensations on both sides (cannot possibly be the baby) and my trousers and jeans no longer fit.

So almost 6 weeks pregnant and I'm going to have to go shopping tomorrow for maternity trousers/jeans.

The booking appointment on 17th August feels like an ice age off.

And to add to all this, I'm learning to drive and have just got the date through for my therory test 30th August. Frightened of taking it incase the stress makes me miscarry.

newyearsday · 28/07/2012 20:53

kirsty thank goodness it's good news. Hope you're managing to get some rest after your ordeal x

Lexiindisguise · 28/07/2012 20:57

Oh Kirsty I am so pleased to hear this! :-)
