FluffyJawsOfDoom · 07/09/2012 11:40

Have you finished yet cakes? :)

OP posts:
cakes82 · 07/09/2012 11:43

I've finished my main job, but I also do homecare so have lunch rotas next week and a training session the week after lol

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 07/09/2012 13:16

Wow, well done cakes - I feel like I've barely managed to make it to 36 weeks!

OP posts:
cakes82 · 07/09/2012 13:51

My mum gave me a talking to the other night telling me I shouldn't be doing any more work of any sort and I should have some me time whilst I still can but i'd already agreed to the homecare work :) Its not particularly long and strenuous. 2 days of delivering Meals on wheels and three days of micro meals and lunch prep about 10hrs work over the week I think. Then the training is 4hrs approx. All very much dependant on when baby decides to make an appearance.
I bet you've done better than you think Grin

Stacks · 07/09/2012 14:07

Afternoon everyone.

Munx congratulations! Thanks I didn't realise you were so close to popping. I hope you had a nice sneeze birth.

I rub my bump lots, and sit just feeling him kick all the time, but I don't really think of him as a baby much yet. I'm not concerned about bonding at all after the birth, I think it's just that thought in the back of your head "Am I meant to feel different?" I've been wondering since I first POAS.. Am I excited enough? Happy enough? etc etc Everyone else seems to expect me to have spent lots of money on the baby, have the nursery ready, and just generally be 'ready' by now. Personally I think I've got plenty of time, and that babies don't really need all that much stuff - at least for the first couple of weeks.

On another note - would getting a kitten now be a bad idea? The In Laws adopted cat has just had a litter of 4 kittens, and I've kind of fallen in love with the idea of getting one. Thing is, it'll be ready for homing not long before the baby is born, and I already have 2 cats who are going to be stressed by the baby changes. It's just such an adorable kitten, I can't resist!

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 07/09/2012 14:35

I wanted to wait til I was 30 weeks to do all my baby shopping stacks because I was quite superstitious/nervous about doing it earlier, rather than excited. I think Dsis talked me into doing it about 27/28 weeks or so iirc. And our nursery still isn't ready (it still has bare floorboards and unassembled flatpack furniture!) :o

Personally I wouldn't get a kitten at the same time as bringing home a baby, it would stress ours out too much - but only you know how well your kittehs would cope :)

Stacks · 07/09/2012 15:31

I know the kitten probably isn't a good idea. I just want one so much :(

They're a week old today (and too adorable to resist). My maternity leave starts when I'll be 36 weeks, in 10 weeks time, which would be a great time to bring it home... if everything has a chance to settle down before baby arrives.

HaveALittleFaith · 07/09/2012 17:46

I read you're not supposed to introduce new animals while pregnant due to increased sensitivity and liklihood to get new allergies Confused I don't think I could cope with any more than the geriatric hamster we've got. I doubt it will survive til the baby arrives!

I won't get anything baby wise until after my 12 week scan then I'll inherit a lot from my sister (her DS is 3 and she doesn't plan to TTC for a while). I'll be able to see then what we need to go out and buy.

TheLittleFriend · 07/09/2012 19:10

Congratulations Munx Thanks Looking forward to hearing some more details about your lovely bundle soon xx

And looking forward to hearing something from Loopy too.... Smile

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 08/09/2012 09:07

hi all, few days absence as couldn't log on whilst in hospital so only briefly read back on the thread, so apologies for non-name checking...although big congrats to munx for yesterday!

so had the sweep on tuesday, it ramped up contractions and lost plug and started to lose membranes over night but went to hospital as arranged for 8am on wed morning for ELCS. They said they could break my waters to enable a highly supervised VBAC attempt but the consultant examined me and said baby had gone back to back, so we had to stick to the original plan of ELCS. They had problems getting him out, despite no real labour and no pushing, he had got his 91st centile head jammed into my pelvis and they had to use forceps to drag him out, but 9lb 3 1/2oz baby Alexander came out kicking and screaming with an APGAR of 9 at 10.16am on 5/9/12. So different from EMCS with DS1. I feel so much better and was a much more positive and calm experience, with memories we will both treasure forever, it has put a lot of ghosts to bed (for those who don't know, DS was cat 1 EMCS under GA, so DP not allowed in room, i was out cold, and DS had APGAR 1).

Will be ELCS's for me in the future, they think my pelvis is making the babies turn to back to back as my body is ready to go into labour (they said i was having real contractions that morning and so looks like 5th was always going to be his birthday anyhow lol) and that i simply can't deliver babies with 91st centile heads - and both of ours have had that exact same head size...cheers to DP for the big head genes No PPH, no infections, no complications at all really, other than A being tongue tied but it doesn't seem to be affecting feeding. Getting a cannula in was a bit of a problem as i have bad veins and they'd ruined 3 of the 4 main sites on the day before, couldn't access the 4th so had to then put it in across my wrist, meaning every time i bent my wrist upwards (like whenever i leaned on my hand) the cannula was tensing into my arm, very unpleasant. Vomiting on the operating table surprised me, it happened very quickly as i naturally have low blood pressure, the spinal was unpleasant to be administered and my god that spray was cold. Got the shakes a little bit, but it soon passed over.

We came home yesterday afternoon and so good to be home. Milk came in late yesterday, and A fed till 11.48pm and then he slept until 7.15am! He is such a calm and contented little baby, such a difference to our DS1 who had reflux and wouldn't sleep unless held by me, and who would scream whenever he passed wind or poo. A farts for England without batting an eyelid and has no issues pooing, he is an absolute angel so far and loves to be swaddled, unlike DS1.

Very uncomfortable when trying to get up, wound is a lot sorer than first CS, they said this could be because of forceps/force needed to pull him out combined with his size, or could be down to adhesions from last CS but they don't know and i didn't manage to see my consultant before we left to find out if i did have bad adhesions or not. Hoping that it heals quickly as the sooner i can get up from a chair/in and out of bed easier the better! Until then i'll keep popping the pills!

Biscuitsandtea · 08/09/2012 10:36

Congratulations loopy! Thanks I'm glad that although it sounds a bit scary to me and I don't want to think about giving birth yet! it was a positive experience for you :)

cakes82 · 08/09/2012 10:52

Congratulations Loopy Thanks

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 08/09/2012 11:11

Congrats loopy, I'm so glad you got a nice calm birth experience, rather than a scary-sounding EMCS :)

Hello all, back from hols and severely jet-lagged so unlikely to a) have noted important occurrences prior to this page and b) make sense Grin.

Congratulations loopy and munx! Thanks to you both. Hope all is well with you and your lil' bubs Grin.

And my, aren't you all blooming and gorgeous in the late summer sun?!

For anyone with geeky tendencies, one of the places I visited on my hols was Santa Cruz. Immortalised in a certain film as Santa Carla! DH and I spent a happy day saying 'I told you to stay off the Boardwalk' and singing People Are Strange. And yes, it IS called The Boardwalk, and you can walk the tracks (loooong way, we didn't) and the carousel is there and, and, and... I bloody love that film Grin

GreenOlives · 08/09/2012 12:55

Congratulations Loopy that's fabulous news Grin Thanks

whimsicalname · 08/09/2012 16:59

Congrats loopy and of course munx. Super news from you both.

smegs I can't believe you went came to the US without bringing me a copy of the Guardian and some pataks curry paste. They are primitive here i tell you. Did you eat chinese takeaway. They're worms Michael. You're eating worms.

Hope you're enjoying not working fluff. I always get a massive burst of energy when I stop and do all sorts of vital nesting like baking a zillion cakes and making lots of stew. Then I run out of energy and we eat all the stew before I actually have the baby.

We're going to a barbeque at the embassy this afternoon. I hope the ambassador is looking forward to meeting me.

Hello everyone else. Hope you're all having a good weekend.
