Pregnancy insomnia is bad enough without friends helping you out - just been called by my friend to sit for her 22 month old whilst she goes into hospital to have her baby! She's a week over due so I'm not too Envy. Hope her parents who are taking over turn up by 7ish as don't think work would be particularly impressed. Little lad is asleep so going to try to nap on their sofa...

Westcountrylovescheese · 31/07/2012 05:32

Hi there Nightfall, good luck to your friend! Wide awake here too.

The3Bears · 31/07/2012 06:32

Wide awake here aswell have been for about an hour and a half, hope your friend has a speedy delivery nighfall and her parents turn up on time, best of luck to her :)

Thats terrible that they did not believe you warzone and your infection could have been avoided :( I remember when I was in labour with ds I went into hospital at 7.30pm after being awake all night and day with pains and they werent going to examine me as I didnt look like I was in enough pain Confused I couldnt believe it, luckily they did examine me after telling me I was probably not dialated to find I was 3 1/2 cm's :) Hoping for better mw's this time around.

Hope everyone else managed a good nights sleep.

farmerswifey · 31/07/2012 08:03

Biggest Congratulations to everyone who has had their babies - I am completely jealous!

I'm due TODAY but as yet no signs - I think she's quite happy where she is at present, I do wish she'd hurry up though, I'm getting terribly impatient.

hamncheese · 31/07/2012 08:16

Amazing story ontheedge especially shouting about needing a poo haha! A lot of people who've had babies have said they felt that so I'll be keeping an eye out for it on the day

hehe due on 11th group trying to skip the queue... I wish it would work! Would be happy to wait so you don't have to have the section though chic

Good to hear all is well needles hopefully your LO will come at a similar time to your DS so it's not so massive

Glad you've gotten things sorted out with DH picture

Hope your BP steadies and things say calm rumors

That's so crap warzone thanks for the heads up though to be assertive if similar happens to any of us. Here's to a speedy recovery for the infection. Glad to hear you are having cuddles with Aveasta :)

Here's hoping your LO decides to make an appearance now wifey

Lots of news and such, everything is getting so exciting and hectic now the babies are coming. Can't believe it was only 9 months ago this was all starting. I was thinking about this time last year as I was sorting out my wardrobe in a nesting mania yesterday and looking at all the clothes I've not worn since last autumn. Can't wait to get back into my jeans and for autumn and being cool enough in the body to wear a jumper mmmmm!

Stuffing my face with Crunch chocolate (blast from the past) before last day of volunteering before due date... maybe the walking/chatter of kiddies will encourage baby to come join in the fun Grin

NeedlesCuties · 31/07/2012 08:21

nightfalls I spoke to my community MW yesterday about that mad cervix pain. She said it is common enough (even though I didn't get it during 1st pregnancy). It is a combination of the cervix getting itself ready and also all the baby weight and fluid pushing down, hence why it's worse when we're upright.

tashaw I'm not due till the 24th, but for some reason ALL the way through this pregnancy I have been sure that I won't make it to the 24th, and I'm happy with that. I'll be 37 weeks this weekend, and DH has an important appt next week.... once that is over then this baby is welcome to come out and join the Cuties household, please!!

(36+3)

Westcountrylovescheese · 31/07/2012 08:32

Has anyone noticed that there is to be a full moon on Thursday 2nd August? Hmmm, how much do we believe the old wife's tale?

39 weeks today!

PictureThis · 31/07/2012 08:57

We're usually busier at work on a full moon.

Westcountrylovescheese · 31/07/2012 09:00

Picture, what is your work?

P.s. I'm far more interested if it has anything to do with having babies and less so if you say tax accountant btw.. Grin

Whiteangel · 31/07/2012 09:56

Do I need to dance around the garden naked for the full moon to work? Getting in more and more of a state about going over due now. Spent most of last night tossing and turning. DH has left me to go back to sleep whilst he runs some errands but its not working! It is warm and sunny and I can hear power tools. Not good conditions for a lie in! Going for newborn cuddles today with my friends baby who was born on my birthday so 10 days old. Someone mentioned somethingabout New babies helping to bring on labour. If not I'm thinking about asking for a sweep when I see the midwife at 39+6 tomorrow. What do you ladies think? What exactly do they do? I don't mind it being uncomfortable if it relieves SPD sooner rather than later! Can't walk for more than 5 mins without being in agony for the rest of the day!

PictureThis · 31/07/2012 09:57

I'm a midwife.

PictureThis · 31/07/2012 09:59

Whiteangel I'd definitely ask for a sweep.

Nightfall1983 · 31/07/2012 10:15

OK, I'm actually quite Envy now. My friend had her baby (girl) about 2 hours after getting to hospital - they are coming home later!! She was in quite a lot of pain when I went over but I didn't realise how far along she was (neither did she)!

fairtradelu · 31/07/2012 14:15

Is anyone else suffering from blocked ears? My right ear popped 2 days ago and it is driving me crazy. I went swimming this morning (lush btw) in the hope of relieving it but it hasn't made a difference. I can't decide if I should just try and ignore it and let it fix itself or if it needs seeing to. Google results seem to suggest it might be linked to pregnancy...

Vinolover · 31/07/2012 14:20

Congratulations to your friend Nightfall. What a lovely, quick delivery!

I love your birth story ontheedge. It's so nice to hear other positive stories of induction. You did make me giggle about shouting because you felt you needed a poo.

I can't believe nobody believed you warzone! How awful!! Thank goodness it has all worked out in the end though.

Westcountrylovescheese · 31/07/2012 14:23

Yeay Picture! That is exactly what I wanted to hear. So ladies, Thursday night we need to up the eviction plans. Pineapple curry and sex night methinks!

Hello all,

Exciting times with all the babies! Can't wait to meet mine Smile.

Just back from MW appointment and DH is whipping up some lunch. Bless him!

So, baby is not engaged at all and at 38 weeks tomorrow, was hoping for some progress from two weeks ago, but I guess not. Boo. My MW did say he could whizz down at any point, but he's now right under my ribs all the time and eating and getting comfy etc isn't easy. Also have a lot of cervix/pelvic pain like others have too so share your pain. I also got weighed. Dear god, have put on 14 kilos Shock [shoclk]. I KNOW a lot of this is baby, extra blood, placenta, fluid etc etc and that is an average amount to put on. But still. Yikes. Everything else is good, including BP which is nice and low still. Will just potter on and see what happens over the next couple of weeks. I've got a sweep booked in already at 39+6 so fingers crossed!

Going to have a nice afternoon pottering in some sunshine then maybe a gentle walk later by the river before some serious bouncing on the ball to try and engage baby! Hope you and bumps and babies are all well today x

NeedlesCuties · 31/07/2012 16:26

This is a link for those of us who are expecting our 2nd DC. I read it this afternoon and could have sobbed. Is so nice thinking though about soon DS will have a sibling >Needles wipes tear from her eyes<

Congratulations ontheedge!

Well 37 weeks today, had my show 10 days ago and midwife said could be any day now! Really struggling with walking as he keeps hitting nerves in my hips and legs which cripples me and has me in tears some times, Going to be brave tomorrow and take my 5 year old out for dinner and a trip to the cinema, hoping as its mainly sit down things it wont hurt to much Hmm, never experienced the nerve pain and the struggling with walking in my other 2 pregnancies so feel really fed up that I cant do everything that I want to.
Midwife said my platelets are abit low and passed it onto the hospital to contact me if they think they need to,
so I've managed to be anemic, have a low platelets count, had pgp, major nerve pain and pressure pain, and ended up in a lanzarote hospital with a serious kidney infection this pregnancy - whoo hooo!!!! Grin

Weekipper · 31/07/2012 19:54

Congratulations to ishop, Warzone and Edge good to hear the babies are starting to arrive!

I had a bit of a meltdown at my midwife appt today Blush I blame hormones! It was all because when she measured by blood pressure it was high and then high again so she was sending my to day assessment. I have been feeling fine! Also I was really anxious about going to hospital on my own when DH was working in Dundee and all my best mates are on holiday. There were others I could have called but I didn't want to bother them Hmm so I pulled on my big girl pants and took a taxi. DH turned up as soon as he could and all the tests showed things were ok although blood pressure remained highish.

Consultant came in and asked me to come in again on Friday to monitor things again and if BP is high they'll plan to induce. She also offered to do an internal check and possibly a sweep (I'm 38weeks 5days.) I was interested to see how things were progressing if at all because i'd been shocked the head had become fully engaged since last appointment when it had been totally free. Upside was cervix is totally effaced. Downside the internal was pretty damn sore and cervix is still closed. Things are a bit achey now.

I'm spending time tonight visualising having a baby soon because I've really not considered this baby not being late!

Sorry for the essay, I just needed to talk (write) it out! I think I found it all a bit of a shock.

pintofmilk · 31/07/2012 20:54

Warzone congratulations and I love the name you have chosen.

Whiteangel I was offered a sweep with my first. Basically the midwife performs an internal examination and 'sweeps' her finger around your cervix (neck of your womb). Supposed to separate your membranes and release a hormone to kick start labour. It doesn't hurt as such, just really uncomfortable. I was overdue and ready to try anything. It didn't work for me and was induced 10 days after due day. But hey, having suffererd with SPD myself, I would try ANYTHING to start it off. Good luck

pintofmilk · 31/07/2012 21:15

I went for a scan last week as planning homebirth, just to make all ok in there for the big day. Baby is already just over 7lbs and got just under 3 weeks to go, so looking at 9-10lbs if I go full term! Confused

Becomming very real now, been getting the birth pool ready today and had a trial run at filling it up. eeeek

Weekipper poor you, sounds like a rough day. Good that they are keeping a close eye out for your BP. Take it easy and hopefully you will have a good nights sleep.

PictureThis · 31/07/2012 22:12

Scan today showed this baby is very big so I'm having yet another GTT tomorrow to exclude late onset gest diabetes. Had a monitoring which showed a happy baby thankfully. My consultant will sweep me next week at 37 weeks and we will consider induction at 38 weeks. Being monitored again between now and next Tuesday and will test my sugars at home regardless of GTT result. My problem is I know too much and as a result I had a little emotional meltdown earlier but DH was really good and encouraged me to look at the facts and the plan as a professional which really helped calm me down but then gave me a cuddle so I could have a good cry when my 'Mummy' head took over again. Baby is moving plenty as usual which is reassuring.
