Oh vino that did make me smile. I just hope my DH comes back a woman in his next lifeGrin.

hamncheese · 30/07/2012 14:13

Wouldn't think of it vino and apparently neither would baby as all pain, front and back, has gone now! I know I am being totally greedy as not even at due date! Maybe we should all just go at the same time on the 11th... I think bears is 11th too, what do you reckon marmite

I really don't want to be induced, come on baby!! Only 12 days til due Grin

tashaw28 · 30/07/2012 14:30

warzone congrats on your fantastic news! Love an unusual name!!
needles I just have one word for you....television! Was my saviour when the kids dropped their naps but were still tired, they think it's a treat and I put a blanket over them and make them all cosy and occasionally someone falls asleep!

Lovemarmite · 30/07/2012 14:57

I agree, let's do it all together on the 11th! Wouldn't dream of going first Wink
I've got the John Wayne walk down to a tee now and the kicks are definitely stronger, feel like peeing tons and only a tiny bit comes out and then wonder if I've wet myself now and again, yeap totally loving this bit of pregnancy too!

We're having a garden office building put in which starts tomorrow until Saturday. It's actually a man cave! Grin

ishopthereforeiam · 30/07/2012 16:10

picture and vino I'm sure your DH's won't actually be working / sorting out extension when the babies are here! I'd def be with you both at being Angry otherwise!

ham all sounds like your body's getting ready to evict! Very exciting and hopefully not too painful?

Hormones slightly more under control today although did cry this morning as visitors coming and I literally have nothing to wear! love that people want to come over but all I really want to do is sit / lie on sofa in buttonable shirt (trousers all hurt where the c/s was) so can bf ds easily rather than move from room to room etc.

so wore dh's pj's... Grin

This stage really is all glamour isn't it Marmite. I have a stinker of a cold coupled with a cough at the moment and I have to brace a certain position to cough and sneeze lol.
I'd like to do it before the 11th if anyone else would care to join me Wink.

I think all men should come back as a woman picture. When I gave birth to my dd, he was helping me out of the bath and decided to choose that time to ask me when he should tell work he would be going back. (He's self employed btw). It's a wonder we put up with it really!

Ham my aches and pains come and go too, in fact I get really miffed if I go a whole day with no niggles and then torture myself when I do. I keep telling him he can have a nice big stretch if he comes out but he is clearly ignoring his mother. It's a sign of things to come Wink

ontheedgeofwhatever · 30/07/2012 17:05

hello everyone. Tom is five days old and completely and utterly gorgeous.

Sorry I didn't update sooner but been too exhausted for much more than eating, sleeping, feeding, changing and winding - life with a new born baby is all glamour.

Labour was both short and very painful. I went into hospital to be induced on Wednesday and nothing happened until 10.45pm when my waters broke with a pop. By 11.10 the contractions started and I kept walking up and down the ward corridor and bouncing on the birthing ball until about 11.45 when I couldn't bear standing up anymore. I asked the midwife to call DP just before midnight and he turned up at 12.15 to find me screaming in pain with contractions every couple of minutes. Midwife explained to DP that there was still quite a long time to go and an hour was not going to have progressed me very far from the 2cm I was at when my waters went. I started screaming I needed a poo and she decided to re-examine me only to find I was at 8cm. Next thing I knew I was being whisked down to delivery as fast as they could, still screaming to the whole world that I needed a poo Blush.

There was a wonderfully calming voice in the lift telling me how to breathe and what to do and I thought it was one of the porters only they stayed after we reached delivery. I refuse to move from bed to delivery couch but the same voice told me I could have the gas and air if I moved - dp said I was like a kid in a sweet shop and actually stopped screaming and agreed to move over. Finally in a gap between contractions calming voice introduced himself as the student midwife who was delivering my baby. A few contractions and screams later Tom appeared screaming and strait on to my chest.

Student midwife fantastic and Tom turned out to be his qualifying baby. I never thought I'd have accepted a male midwife before but I was really impressed with the way he did the job and found his whole approach very gentle and helpful.

Very happy and very exhausted and utterly in love with my little boy.

ontheedgeofwhatever · 30/07/2012 17:14

PS - gas and air is a wonderful wonderful thing Grin

Whiteangel · 30/07/2012 17:25

Congratulations on the edge and warzone! Good to hear positive induction stories as I'm quite scared of being induced after hearing about experiences of friends. Both lovely names too. I really like Tom (was my grandad's name) but my sis just married one so took it off our list.
Must be my turn next? Three days to due date and can barely walk for pelvic pain. Curry for tea tonight, I'll be having a mild one but taste testing DH's as that would be enough to terrify any baby into escape!

geekette · 30/07/2012 17:38

Well done ontheedge! And welcome Tom! Yay to good midwives! with sultry voices

The3Bears · 30/07/2012 17:56

Im the same vino full of a cold, nose is all blocked so had the worst headache all day. Was going to ring hospital but I just knew my head was so bad because of my nose :( had 2 paracetamol an hour ago and a lie down then put head over a bowl of steaming hot water and towel over head and feel alot better now maybe worth a try for you too.

Yes vino ham and marmite would be unfair for one of us to go 1st, will try and hold of until 11th Grin really don't want to go overdue.

whiteangel Hope your curry plan works and baby arrives soon :)

ontheedge great birth story and so nice to hear of a great male midwife, at least your labour was short must have been such a relief to find out you were 8cm when being examined even though they thought you were less.

Going to have tea now m&s fish and chips yum! hope everyone else is okay.

ChicBabyP · 30/07/2012 18:05

Congrats warzone on your little girl, lovely original name, and to ishop too (don't think I've congratulated you yet), also lovely name! I hope you are both doing well with your little bundles.

ontheedge, that is a very short labour but glad it all went well. I was debating being induced or having c-sec if nothing happens by due date, but was told by my consultant that at 40 weeks, an induction may not work and you can end up with a c-sec anyways (about 50/50 chance), so decided that with those odds I may as well save myself the pain of the induction and go straight for the c-sec, but now I'm reconsidering...Hmm Oh well, will ask again tomorrow when I see him. Enjoy your cuddles with Tom!!!

Hmm...hello all of you (Ham, Marmite etc) due on the 11th, could you please take your place in the queue as there are others here who'd like to get their babies out before you (i.e Whiteangel, ME) !!! >stomps foot, crosses arms and pulls a very 'this isn't fair' face<

Can you tell I'm also a bit fed up?
39+1 here, and would really like to try and avoid the c-sec next week. Went for a walk today and I think I got 2 contractions. It felt like a tightening but quite painful across the belly and I had to slow down, but haven't had anything since. Thought I felt some period pains this morning, but again, nothing since...

So who and when is the next baby? Whiteangel? or are we going to let the "11th" group take us over?Envy

Westcountrylovescheese · 30/07/2012 18:09

Me, me, me! I'm next! 38+6

Grin
ffscatmove · 30/07/2012 18:19

Congratulations ontheedge! Tom is a lovely name & your MW sounds fab.

Oooh I want to meet my LO, getting so frustrated now! Thanks for the confirmation Picture, I thought s/he must be engaged but wasn't sure. Doesn't seem to be moving any further though, despite 3 mile waddle this afternoon! Try not to murder your DP, I'm sure he'll be more helpful when it comes to it and you can always bite him during labour & get away with it Wink My DH seems to veer between being very sweet & helpful and completely uncomprehending. Mind you, I had no idea what pregnancy was like beforehand!

MrsMigginslovespies · 30/07/2012 18:30

Lovely to hear your experience Ontheedge and I'm so pleased that you're both doing well. Can't believe it's already been 5 days!

How are you doing tonight Picture? Doesn't sound much fun at all and hope you manage to get things sorted a bit with DH. Men eh?! We've got a few more bits and bobs done today so hoping to take it easy tomorrow. Just got the shed to clear out so we can use it for the pram etc then I can stop for a bit!

Still having some sharp pains from time to time on the lower left hand side of my pelvis but assume that they're getting ready for things. Tired and heavy tonight but looking forward to DH's supper (he's sweetly taken over a lot of the cooking at night) soon. Then book and early night I think. Hope you're all well and having a nice evening. x

NeedlesCuties · 30/07/2012 19:42

Hello all!

Well done, ontheedge I've added you and Tom to the list :)

I had community midwife appt today. All is grand. She didn't tell me how big I was measuring, but had a feel of my belly, smiled and said, "Well you have a decently sized baby in here, you won't be having a 7lb tote"

NB (for all of you who come from places where "tote" isn't a commonly used words, it means "small thing/small child.")

She said it was good to hear that I went into spontaneous labour at 39 weeks with my first baby, said that could well happen this time too >I'm crossing my fingers<

I am a bit worried about having a huge baby, but another one around the 8-9lb mark would be okay I'm sure....

susiegrapevine · 30/07/2012 19:51

Congrats ontheedge glad it was short if a little painful.

Am 37 weeks tmw! So term but would like baby to stay put until my mum and dad get back late sunday night as am running dad's business.

Had my 1st at 38+3 and no idea he was on his way before hand no niggles or anything it was on the day of my 38 week midwife appointment which this time is at 38+1 so next tues am gonna aim for that lol!

Who will have the 1st baby actually born in august??

eightieshopaholic · 30/07/2012 20:18

Me please I want to be the first off August lol!!

Ladies who are due 11th I'm having the same pains today on and off tight feeling then nothing started this morning on and off today but not regular and last one a few hours ago. Must just be body getting ready!

Also feel different today stomach feels heavy weighing me down. But don't need to pee more.

Lets hope things are a movin!! due 12 Aug so I'm ready.

ffscatmove · 30/07/2012 20:37

I might race you eighties, I'm due the 9th & way back in the beginning of this pregnancy I had a fortune cookie that had 'You will have great success in August' in it so am not expecting anything until at least the first!
Although I'm going strawberry picking on Friday & don't want to miss it so maybe I'll step aside for you......
Still feel like baby is so low s/he could fall out & peeing a teaspoon every ten minutes but no twinges or anything yet!

PictureThis · 30/07/2012 20:40

Well done Ontheedge on your fabulous labour. I hope I'm as quick as you. Love the name (that's what we're calling ours), enjoy your snuggly time with him.
I'm better tonight, thanks all for asking. DH and I had a very calm chat tonight and we've reached an agreement. As my sister and Aunt are over the week I'm due he can go back to work if our boy makes an appearance that week as I'll have loads of help from them. The following week term starts again so he'll do the school run and half days then. If baby arrives early then he'll take the time off as initially planned. He's concerned about money which is understandable but he worries unnecessarily. Bag is coming down from the loft as I type (can I get a round of applause please and a string of bunting to celebrate). My isotonic energy drinks and cereal bars came with the shopping today so they'll be going in the bag. I need to get some dextrosol tablets too but I'll get them from the chemist. 4 weeks to go (waves from the back of the queue) and it can't come soon enough.

forgetfulmrs · 30/07/2012 20:48

No me, me let it be me! 39 weeks today. Having said that every time my bump goes tight and painful I start to panic and think no, no I'm too scared. Pathetic Smile

Picture You've done very well keeping your cool with hubby considering all the hormones! I'm sure it's the most effective approach to take. I tend to brood then explode. hopfully you're bag is down from the loft now? If it makes you feel any better my DH will not have any time off after LO arives. He is also self employed, works 12 hours a day and business would go under without him. Mind you, when I had DS DH worked nights and literally did 18 hours a day. Came home to get a few hours sleep then would have to go back again. Looking back I dont know how we did it but we managed somehow (although it wasnt the happiest of times).

Warzone Congratulations! So pleased to hear a positive story about emergency c-sections because the fear of that happening is always there.

Wow edge you clever thing! Bet you couldnt believe it when he popped out. I'll keep my fingers crossed that I have a nice (if painful) quick one like that. You sound like you're in love with your little boy already, thats so sweet.

Nightfall1983 · 30/07/2012 21:00

Ooh so interesting to hear you talking about pains in the cervix. I've been getting really (really) sharp pains in what I think might be my cervix (not exactly sure though Blush). They hit me usually when I'm walking around, usually sudden and sharp but over quickly, occasionally lasting a little longer. It feels like its above my lady bits, deep inside - does that sound right? It always goes when I sit and if I start getting them and sit for a little while then when I get up I don't usually get any more for a little bit... FYI I've noticed that firmly engaging my pelvic floor muscles helps to dull the pain when it's spiking...

So we were at the Hockey at the Olympics on Sunday, it went really well and we had a fab time. I was nervous about the crowd but had no problems, think they all took one look at my massive bump and gave me plenty of space :-) I was also nervous about all the walking given all the unpredictable (cervix?) pain but was quite lucky for the most part and just had a quiet sit on the few occasions that pain hit.

Today DH and I were both off work (we only got in at midnight last night so had decided to take today off), I've had such a lovely day! We had a good lie-in and then spent the day in Nottingham (which is a bit more exciting than Derby). Shopping, wondering around, great lunch in Loch Fyne (one of my fave restaurants) and we both got haircuts :-) Came home and I did a big pork roast for dinner and then DH helped me make a bread and butter pudding which is currently baking... YAY, it was so lovely spending quiet time together when we didn't have much to do - we treated ourselves to a few bits (like Lobster at Loch Fyne) saying how we won't be able to spend time like this just the two of us for a long long time!!

tashaw28 · 30/07/2012 21:55

Another one!!! Congrats to ontheedge very impressed by your quick labour!

Think I'm the only one who wants theirs to stay in until due date (19th here) as we've got a busy week or so coming up, my BH are constant now and very painful but I'm pretty sure it's not labour, I hope at least!!!

therumoursaretrue · 30/07/2012 22:21

Congrats ontheedge and warzone love hearing about the new arrivals!

I am just home from admissions for the 7th ish (?) time!! Fed up! BP was through the roof again and when I arrived and was put on the monitor I was having regular contractions. Very mild though so nothing to worry about for the meantime it seems.

warzonemummy · 30/07/2012 23:01

I was just transfered to the post natal ward where I have good phone coverage so I spent some time reading all the posts here.

That you all for flowers :-)

Both Aveasta and I are doing well enjoying tight close hugs.

I wanted to share a little about waters breaking and so on and to urge you to be prepred for it. My waters broke when I was on my way to the shops to buy a tin to make a cake. It was like weeing myself but it wasn't like a river flowing out of me.it didn't wet the floor.

Now the interesting part is that when i turned up at the hospital the midwives refused to believe me that my waters had broken. They said that it must have been just discharge or wee. I was furious but left the hospital. Two days later it all happened again. I went back and once again they did not believe me. The reason qhy they did not belive me was because they could not see any amniotic fluid when they did an internal exam. I showed them my wet sanitary towel. But it was not wet enough for the midwife. She said it was dumb and not wet so she didn't think it was my waters. So final and third time when a gash of fluids came out I was wearing a maternity pad which gets wet as opposed to dump like period pads and I took that plus my wet knickers to the hospital refusing to leave. They admitted me that day.

However, all this time between delivery and the section has caused me to have an infection. I wish that I was more assertive when I went in the first time
