Panpipe I'm with your mum and Mil on this one... You're mad. However I'm sure you'll be fine. Is there any chance you could rope someone in to sitting in the car with you just in case? If you were to go into labour you'd find driving through a contraction difficult I think so they could take over. Also, is it worth checking out the locations and numbers of all the hospitals along the route, just in case.

Lovemarmite, could that be Braxton Hicks? I've been getting these recently when I haven't up till now. Bump goes really hard and a bit painful, but wears off. My midwife said it was getting things ready for the big event.

Is anyone starting to worry that they won't know what a contraction is when it happens. What with these Braxton Hicks and period pain cramps I keep 'is this it' thoughts. What does a actual contraction feel like? Will I know?

Ontheedge, congratulations!

Westcountrylovescheese · 26/07/2012 09:43

Ishop, yes that is weirdly plant obsessed. Did your neighbour actually hear you/listen to you?

woopsidaisy · 26/07/2012 10:16

Ishop that is very weird....surely they could get someone else to do it? Good luck with it all!
Things are happening so quickly now, it is hard to keep up.

ImissMiniPop · 26/07/2012 10:39

Whiteangel · 26/07/2012 10:45

Congrats on the edge! I'm getting very jealous of all of you ladies who have met your babies. I'm ready now! One week to due date so this weekend would be good please! Weather cooler today thankfully. Thought I was melting yesterday evening when I went to watch DH play guitar with a jazz group. Talking about hot babies. A colleague had her first baby whilst living in Botswana and the local ladies were very concerned that her baby would get cold as she wasn't putting her in enough blankets and wooly hats! Doubt they had a groegg with the same parameters! Have a good day all!

NeedlesCuties · 26/07/2012 10:45

West once you start getting proper contractions you will know all about it, trust me.

Feel a bit like every period cramp you've ever had all rolled into one every few minutes. They don't tell you to suck the gas and air during contractions for nothing Wink

But don't worry, you (and the rest of us) will be fine and each contraction passed is another step closer to hugging our little babies!!

MrsMigginslovespies · 26/07/2012 12:14

Congratulations Ontheedge on your new baby boy! Thanks. How lovely for you and a good weight! How exciting, the babies are coming!!!

Have to smile Ishop at your neighbour...! Nowt as queer as folk!

Having a quiet non-nursery day today as we;re busy all day tomorrow in Edinburgh, including an Olympics dinner thing MIL is putting on that I just can't be bothered with, as it involves staying late in Edinburgh to watch some of the ceremony. I've said we'll stay till 10 then we're driving the hour home so I can be in my own bed. Really hate being away now, plus a single small IKEA guest bed ain't going to help my sleeping much. But we are picking up the pram which I'm super-excited about, meeting my Mum for chinese food for lunch and getting all the things she's stockpiled over the past few months from her too, so we've now nothing left to get. Received my new Swing tube today, so all set there too. Just need a lick more paint in one corner and to put the stickers on the walls. Hurrah hurrah.

We've had DDog a whole year today! Going to take her on a celebratory walk but I've posted up a photo that DH took of her earlier this morning on our bed. She's posing!!

Hope everyone feels ok today. My bump is heavy and sore feeling, but I'm not really having any of the symptoms you're all having and don't feel he's dropped much either. I'm already booked in for a sweep two days before my due date to get things moving, but do hope that I'm not going to be overdue by weeks. Hey ho, will be what it is. Can't wait to hold my baby son.

Off to make some jam, hope everyone has a nice day and those with their babies already enjoy lots of cuddles Smile. x

tashaw28 · 26/07/2012 12:18

Oooo congrats ontheedge lovely news and a lovely quick labour! Hope mines the same!!!

ishopthereforeiam · 26/07/2012 13:12

Exciting to get the pram mrsm

sooooo.... bikini wax not good. Pain free Grin but didn't check it while there, told teh lady go quite low as the midwife said to do so as they need to do the cut etc. Get home and check it out and she has made hardly any difference! Too lazy to complain as it means hassle to go back, park, etc.

highlights - also epic fail. Hadn't booked anywhere so walked into supercuts after an hour's worth of traffic as I thought they were walk in only - then discovered couldn't get it done as you need a patch test Sad.

Oh well. One day to go! Wonder if any more babies will come before then? All so exciting to see them arriving on the thread!

Best get back to watering the neighbour's plants Hmm

Congratulations ontheedge hope your enjoying lots of newborn cuddles and head sniffing :)

Vinolover · 26/07/2012 16:21

Congratulations ontheedge!
I too am very jealous of these lovely babies being born. Mine is ignoring every eviction attempt I make Hmm

I had my hair done yesterday ishop (re colour and cut) and oh my, I really don't know how I survived it! The fumes got to me more than usual and it was just so hot in there! I have never been so relieved to leave the hairdressers!!
Sorry you had a rubbish bikini wax :(

Sounds like things are getting ready for you marmite. I too get these pains and have just put it down to my body getting prepared.

MrsMigginslovespies · 26/07/2012 16:58

Oh no Ishop what a bore, esp if you were looking forward to it. Love getting my hair done and had some highlights done in June, but suspect it won't be till the Autumn till I can go again!! Re wax, am going to try and see who is free early next week and get it sorted. My worst complaint is my horrible skin on my feet. So dry and odd and I hate everything about them at the mo Sad.

Have done more tidying/sorting and am now ready for some tea and a rest. Really fancy mexican food tonight, so am going to try and see if DH wants to go out for some. Yum.

Off for some more hypno/nap. x

hamncheese · 26/07/2012 20:05

Can I ask a question to any of you who have had contractions before? Just to know when it's the real deal if possible.

WHERE is the pain? Is it low down like period pain and the bump is hard, or is the whole bump sore? I know that it can be back ache if so how low down on the back? Does it start in one place (like low down or high up) and move to other places or does the whole area get sore all at once and just more sore through the contraction?

I get the feeling everyone will be different but any experience please :) want to know it's the real deal as seem to get aches and pains all over the shop at the moment!

Also I have a lock jaw type scenario that's not improving here today :( Could barely eat dinner. Can only open my mouth about 2cm and can't chew. Even baked potato and tuna was a struggle grr! I think it may be worsened by the relaxin hormone thing that messes with bones and such. Going to doc on monday but GRRR I want to eat proper food!

ishopthereforeiam · 26/07/2012 20:42

mrsm sounds like you deserve a nice pedicure in the next few days Grin!

vino decided to just get rid of the highlights and dye it all dark at home for now as didn't really want the regrowth to show up as I know in years to come I'll look back and think it looked awful! The fumes did make my eyes sting a bit tho.

ham hope you're jaw is feeling a bit better? My contractions started off quite mild just as little tummy cramps. It's hard to remember now but I definitely knew when it was the real deal. For me it was very similar to my period pains (I get painful periods) quite lowish down on the right and left hand sides but then progressively got stronger and closer together in terms of timing. I didn't get back ache and didn't get all over bump pain it was definitely at the lower end for me. Hope that helps a bit but I'm sure it's prob different for everyone?

Going to stuff my fat face tonight as tomorrow I can only have two slices of dry toast at 7am and nothing after. Don't need to be at hospital til 1pm so guess baby won't be here til early eve...

loupee that baby smell is soooooo good!

Westcountrylovescheese · 26/07/2012 21:26

Ishop, best of luck for tomorrow!

Needles, thanks for the info. Oh my god though... I'm in between excited and nervous about the whole thing. It's getting closer and closer... eek!

MrsMigginslovespies · 26/07/2012 22:04

Ishop all the best of luck for tomorrow! Will be thinking of you and your little one. Let us know when you can how you get on! How amazing! A new baby. SmileSmile.
Ham, hope you feel better. Sounds v odd, poor you.
Had nice supper out with DH to mexican place nearby. Yum! Now digesting and off to bed. Night all sweet dreams x

susiegrapevine · 26/07/2012 22:15

Hey ham contractions were like bad period pains for me to start with as well and just got progressivley worse and closer together. Did not notice bump getting hard or anything. I think you only get back ache if baby is back to back. However the reason I knew mine were the real thing is cos my waters broke 1st. My mum described hers as like a gripey pain in her tummy in her only natural labour she thought it was her mums apple dumplings from the night before until she realised they were regular! I think the pain being at regular intervals is the main thing so if you think it is make sure you time them. I'm sure the labour ward won't mind if you ring them and ask if you are not sure.

Jaw thing sounds horrible. The relaxin hormone has made my back problem better with both my pregnancies! I must be the only woman whose back gets better when pregnant!

Congrats ontheedge wow more babies and its not even august yet!

Whoever it was that said my yesterdays anger was hormones I know it defo was am more positive today after going to mum's for a shower. Parents aren't there but my sis is and I have a key as am running the business for my dad. Plumber is coming tmw to look at boiler. He was shocked it had broken again! 3rd time this year!! Hence my not unfounded anger yesterday! Feel silly now sorry I bent all your ears!

forgetfulmrs · 26/07/2012 22:18

on the edge congrats on the birth of your boy. Wow that was a quick labour, I'm really hoping I can have something similar Smile

ishop good luck for tomorrow, hope you've enjoyed a good dinner this evening. I'm sure all will be fine with the PIL's too. And forget all about watering your crazy neighbours plants!

geekette would a good book help to pass the time? It must be so hard not to concentrate on worrying about whats going to happen when you're stuck in the hospital.

The weather was cooler here today so no swollen ankles but set to be warmer again from tomorrow so hello flip flops. Am potty training my DS at the moment, he went out for a few hours this evening without a nappy and managed no accidents. I am v proud of him. Now have to be brave and take him out again tomorrow!

quickchat · 26/07/2012 22:30

Congratulations ontheedge, lovely news!!

and good luck ishop. Very exciting since I last peeked in.

I have had a bit of a mare since last week. Was in hospital twice and in severe pain, not labour. Turned out to be Gall stones, ouch.

They put me on hardcore painkillers, ones they give cancer patients and I was totally away with the fairies for two days, hope it doesn't effect the baby too much but I don't want to google and find out.

Then today I found out I have gestational diabetes. I did actually burst into tears Blush. Feel like a failure. I can't have looked after myself enough or eaten well enough to have anemia that won't go away with treatment, Gallstones and Diabetes. Sad. Im so worried the baby will have something wrong with it.

I ended up with the underactive thyroid after DD - am I actually allergic to being PG? Hmm.

Im not fat by the way, even though I have every obese disease going!!

I have a higher risk of getting diabetes later in life too Sad. This in particular freaks me out.

Ive already googled wine and diabetes Grin. 2 Units Hmm. There are some nights 2 units will just no suffice! I was soooo looking forward to resuming my wine habit.

Anyway, removals have been today, taken most of our things and then they take they rest tomorrow then we are renting for two weeks, no computer, crap phone so I won't be able to see anymore babies being born. Id imagine when I return there will be half the list gone!! Exciting. As long as it's not me - far to busy. Want to unpack at new house and see DS go to his first day at school on the 15th August. Need a miracle at this rate.

Good luck to everyone, especially ishop who will hopefully be next!!

xx

Lovemarmite · 27/07/2012 04:18

Good luck ishop, hope it goes really well x and not long now until you'll have your little one in your arms. How exciting and thinking of you Thanks

Ham I've been getting some really big feelings too and then got a little concerned as yesterday my ankles puffed up to record levels for me, hands puffed up, felt sick and faint and so rang mw. She said it was my body getting ready, but pains I'd had the night before sounded like ligament pains to her and so I went away feeling a little sheepish about thinking they might be more. I've been getting a few more period like pains though and now teling LO that we're not ready for a while as I need to get the building work finished next week, stuff done at work, finish packing bags and setting up a space for the home part before hospital.
Let us know how your pains are and if they're contractions, I understand they're different for everyone but it's good to hear about them.

quickchat don't worry too much about your pg health, you sound as though you're doing everything you can to be good. With the wine, maybe you could switch sometimes to a glass of sparkling wine and have just one which then makes you feel more relaxed without more alcohol? or look at alternatives?
I had to give up alcohol for a year when not pg and when I went back to it, I only really fancied a glass or two and then went for a more expensive one than I would have had! Next drink for me after August is a weak-ish raspberry daiquiri!
Good luck with the removals!

4am... Hmm sleep is obviously not for me tonight. Hope everyone is zzz'ding soundly Smile

NeedlesCuties · 27/07/2012 07:50

Morning!

Has been lovely and sunny here in Belfast for past few days. I am roasting in the heat and look like a weeble wobble in a maxi skirt :( In past few days my hands, ankles and feet have swollen and even my face looks swollen. Fugly. Got DH to check my blood pressure this morning to make sure I didn't have pre-eclampsia and he said bp was "reassuringly normal". So I'm just swollen from eating too many Bounty bars and from the heat Wink

ishop all the best for today, will be thinking of you and all your family!

(35+6) Once again this is a guess, could be 36 weeks as I always forget Blush

woopsidaisy · 27/07/2012 07:56

Hi needles! My feet look like someone has inflated them with a pump!Grin Actually very painful, and so hideous. But my BP is "wonderful" thankfully.

I'm going to UHD on Monday, will probably get date for induction in August. I wonder if they do a scan then? Haven't seen baby since 20 weeks!

38+3

ImissMiniPop · 27/07/2012 07:57

Good luck today ishop let us know how you get on.

hamncheese · 27/07/2012 08:03

Thanks all for the info. Not contractions here just yet (I wish).

Jaw still being crap, meant to be going for lunch with my Dad today but thinking of having him over instead of having to ask for whatever's on the menu purified ha!!

Hope everything goes great today ishop looking forward to hearing of your LO :)

Vinolover · 27/07/2012 08:38

Good luck for today ishop :) Can't wait to hear your news!!

My contractions were very much like the same you have when you have an upset tummy. Each one gets stronger and stronger until it reaches a peak and then disappears and returns a few minutes later. Early on in labour they are quite weak but it doesn't take too long for them to build up in intensity and that's when you know it's the real thing. I had intimitent back pain all day with my dd before I realised what it was, even then it was a mw that told me what it was because she gave me a sweep Confused It was after the sweep that the tummy pains started.

Don't feel like a faliure quickchat :( I'm sure your baby will be absolutely fine. It really is so unfair though when you do all you can to try and prevent these things and it still happens! You'll be fighting fit soon enough :)
I love the fact you've already googled diabetes and wine haha. It sounds like something I would do Wink

Time to get bouncing on my ball again! Have a good day everyone :)
