ishopthereforeiam · 23/07/2012 20:51

I'll leave the new thread in your capably hands poppy seems only right as minipop was so keen to put in an early appearance Wink

Thanks for the good wishes love and 3bears - other than the nurse not turning up to do my pre-assessment (and no-one realising for an hour and a half while I waited and kept asking how much longer...!) all went fine. So Friday is the day! Will find out on Thurs what time the c/s is... so weird to know when it will all happen.

firsttobed so sorry to hear about your loss but also hoping and praying all goes well, your secret is safe with us.

ontheedge hope the induction goes well - are you excited!?

pan glad the wax didn't hurt too much - have booked mine for thurs when I'll be 38 plus 4 (and huuuuuge still)?

Have just made biryani for 20 people - getting carried away with freezing food for the next few weeks, not enough space in freezer. Anyone hungry?

Vinolover · 23/07/2012 21:29

ishop I'm always hungry so feel free to send some my way :) Sounds really yummy!!!

firsttobed I'm so sorry about your little boy. Massive congratulations to you on your pregnancy though!

It's 9.30 and I'm absolutely knackered! Time to jump into bed me thinks and pray for another good nights sleep! Night all :)

Whiteangel · 23/07/2012 21:42

Wow Lola did it in 20mins on the floor of the chicken shop. Can't be that hard then!
Another realistic TV birth to help prepare me!

tashaw28 · 23/07/2012 22:07

Oooo very exciting, 2 babies coming soon!

First fingers crossed you have a nice easy ride this time!

Had my 36 week consultant appt today, and saw another registar, but apparently my bub is in the right position which is great since DD1 was born back to back, ouch, and DS2 was breech!

I'm fine but have the most hideous puffy ankles, feet and, tonight, toes! My fitflops were actually leaving a mark on my feet today! They said to put them up but am scared to in case the baby moves as I'm so excited it's head down. I'm all set for my VBAC now and they told me today that I'm allowed to go over too which is different information than I got at 16 week consultant check! So am booked for a sweep at 40+1!

Ham with DD1 I woke up with a bad tummy at 3am, lasted on and off for 2 hours until DH realised I was having cramps every 10 mins or so and it clicked I was in labour! On the plus side I was empty when it came to pushing!!!

36+1

woopsidaisy · 23/07/2012 23:13

firsttobed, the very best with this pregnancy. Thanks

Still absolutely no symptoms or BHs here...have resigned myself to induction again. So thinking of 18th as "due date".

My feet are so swollen, the skin feels like it is going to break. Where my toes meet my feet is very painful. I have never had this with previous pregnancies, and usually have lovely slim ankles and feet...I did have them in iced water this evening, but they have gone up again.

Otherwise all good here. Baby still doing gymnastic routines...Grin

Can't wait to hear about the new arrivals...good luck ontheedge!

Gnomi · 24/07/2012 07:32

Ooh, exciting, a post-natal thread! Thanks imiss.

whoopsidaisy, my feet have been very swollen too. The only thing you can do is put them up and spend as little time on your feet as possible. I've been spending 20 minutes a day on my back with my legs propped up against a wall or against the birthing ball. I compensate the risk of LO turning back to back with some time on all fours! Seems to be ok so far, and it definitely helps the swelling.

School holidays here, finally! I'm 38 weeks today, and found the last week of working really hard - I just feel so huge and puffy. Saw the Midwife yesterday who said the baby is only 2/5 engaged - i've been bouncing on my ball, doing yoga and everything else, but never mind. She also said the baby felt like it wasn't particularly big, but would probably be very long - "all arms and legs." This makes complete sense - DH is 6ft 3" and I was on the 90th centile for height when I was born (but only the 50th for weight). I've been consistently measuring at least a week ahead so I've found this really reassuring.

Anyone else struggling for clothes now that the hot weather has hit? Most of my tops now don't stretch over the bump and I've only got one pair of light trousers. Really don't want to spend more money on maternity clothes now.

Also, I have a question about waters breaking. A friend of mine has said that when she gave birth, her waters kept breaking, over and over, during the day - so that she kept appearing to wet herself. i thought they went once, and that was it! Should we be preparing ourselves for repeated waters going?

Happy Tuesday everyone!

woopsidaisy · 24/07/2012 07:53

When and how your waters go is varied, Gnomi.
With DS1 mine went a bit at a time, like your friend. It was like seeing yourself, but I knew it was my waters, it feels "different" IYKWIM?
With DS2 my waters went just before he appeared, a great big gush!
Wonder what DC3 will do?

The schools have already been on holiday here for 3 weeks, and it is not easy to put my feet up with 2 boys running around. But DS2 is doing camp lots-which he adores, and DS1 is very good at getting mummy to rest on the sofa. Will try to get my feet up more today-but elevating them never seems to make much difference.

I bought a couple of these Boden tunics and some of their leggings a while back with a good discount. I also have a lovely maternity dress from Boden which was in the sale for £15 in January!
I remembered from previous pregnancies that you always end up massive at the end, so this time I was prepared! Grin

hamncheese · 24/07/2012 07:54

Oh no sorry to hear things were all dramatic at hospital ontheedge. Take it easy and rest up for Wednesday, hope it all goes amazingly!

I like your stories needles tashaw and susie... want mine to happen like that! I've been getting period pains for the last week but nothing of it. I'm probably being mega optimistic and will go over anyway ha!

So exciting ishop and in case don't get to say before, hope everything goes great on Friday, keep us posted on the new arrival Grin

Congratulations firsttobed sending good wishes that your LO is thriving and all goes well

So I hate sleeping now. It feels more like a work out than a rest. Turning every half hour. Every time I move it feels like I'm being pummelled with the weight of bump and I keep getting neck back hip bump pain as if I'm constantly pulling muscles grrr. Wake up in the morning and feel like I've not even rested. Every time I am uncomfy I think of getting my body back and how I'm going to really really enjoy the simple things from now on, like being able to sit down and stand up and wear shoes and breathe.

37+3 come on baby!

woopsidaisy · 24/07/2012 07:54

That would be weeing not seeing.

Vinolover · 24/07/2012 08:07

Morning everyone :)

Gnomi I am really struggling with clothes at the moment too. I'm due to see a friend for coffee today and have no idea what to wear and tomorrow I have a hair appointment and again haven't got a clue as it's going to be bloody hot in the salon!
With regards to your waters, mine broke both times as I was pushing but I have heard if they break before labour starts or very early on, you keep making water which keeps leaking, if you catch my drift.

Looks like I'm about to get my third dose of thrush in the space of 6 weeks! Thank goodness I know the signs now and had treatment in the cupboard so hopefully I won't suffer as badly this time. It is getting beyond a joke now! My DH has been treated, we don't share towels and I'm using sanex soap. Roll on to this baby being born and then hopefully I can go back to normal!

Good luck for tomorrow ontheedge! :)

ishopthereforeiam · 24/07/2012 09:41

Thanks ham - am so with you on the sleep, it's a real physical effort to turn over from one side to the other too isn't it?

Poppy yay - coming over to reserve a spot soon Grin

Gnomi am living in maxi dresses which are quite good for bump. On the waters breaking, I was told they only break in advance in 20% of cases and if they do then the hospital are usually keen to get the baby out within 24 hours due to risk of infection. With dd my waters broke on sat at 6am (like a trickle of water when I went to the loo - slightly pinkish) kept trickling for a few hours (used maternity pads) not major at all - went shopping etc. Just as I got to hospital (4 hours later) as they wanted to make sure it was the waters breaking and DH parked the car it was like a balloon filled with water popped and my trackies were SOAKED! So embarrassing but luckily was in car and close to hospital - don't know what I would've done if that happened while I was still (window) shopping (in McQueen!).

Having a v rough time at the mo - dd has just discovered tantrums. Anyone with older children and some tips feel free, everything I do is answered with a "no" .. no to the songs on the radio, no to the shoes she needs to wear, no to milk, no to wearing shorts (so she wants to wear jeans on the hottest day of the year!?), and lots of screaming and crying - the usual things to calm her down aren't working. When I asked if she was like this at nursery they said no, she has a mini tantrum for a minute (!) - at home it's 30 mins to an hour which is full on screaming etc. Left the nursery in tears (!) wondering where I'm going wrong? Sad

Whiteangel · 24/07/2012 09:45

Morning. Anyone else got painful fingers? They have been a little swollen on and off but the last couple of days when I've woken during the night and then in the morning they have been really painful to bend! Really struggled to turn the shower on yesterday. Seem to loosen up a little with use as the day goes on. I'm trully falling apart! Come on baby, get out! 38+5

McBaby · 24/07/2012 09:55

whiteangel with you on the sore hands. I find running them under cold water seems to provide the best relief. I think it's just due to slight swelling which the cold water then stops.

Baby has been head down for months which has been confirmed on various scans latest one ten days ago. Since yesterday it feels like its moved and is lying accross my stomach (I'm sure I can feel the head and bum on opposite sides) Do you think it can go from head down and engaged to breech at 37/38 weeks without me noticing??

38 weeks today so not long to go.

WelshLadyCDF · 24/07/2012 09:59

white am with you on the sore hands my finger joints are really hurting and my rings don't fit anymore :(

Loupee · 24/07/2012 10:07

So I'm in hospital, waters started going at 2am, because they suspected meconium in them I've been hooked up to a syntocin drip on the labour ward.
Not quite the birth centre birth I was after, but now I'm just focussing on getting the wee guy out safely. At least we know he should be here today.
Sorry, have read the posts, but can't think back to comment on.
Will try and keep you all updated.

Vinolover · 24/07/2012 10:12

Good luck Loupee!!!

McBaby · 24/07/2012 10:20

Good luck Loupee!! Hopefully lots more babies soon.

Whiteangel · 24/07/2012 10:32

Yey Loupee you get to meet your baby! Thinking of you x
McBaby, I can feel bum on one side and feet on the other. Feels like he is lying across me but MW has confirmed that he is head down. Think he must have long legs like me and his daddy.

The3Bears · 24/07/2012 10:50

Good luck Loupee Grin Hope you labour goes well x

gnomi Im living in my Maternity linen pants from next which are so comfy and normal maxi skirts with vest tops and maxi dresses, maybe you could pick up some linen pants aswell the ones from next were only £20 and im going to wear them after aswell because you cant really see the elastic on the sides :)

mcbaby not sure if baby could do that at this stage but I wouldnt put it past them Wink Im so confused with my LO's position I feel something hard and round stick out on my right just under ribcage and at the same time (must be baby stretching) lower down to the left of my belly button something else? so confusing and v uncomfortable, looking forward to the scan on friday to see where he is :)

ishop I think every child goes through the tantrum stage think the best thing to do is try and ignore it as much as possible so they see it's not bothering you (very hard i know) DS who is 5 has started being v whiney recentley cries everytime you say no, ciess at school doors as he says he doesnt feel well, he's just super emotional wondering if it's something to do with baby arriving as he keeps sneaking into our bed at night aswell hoping it stops soon as he's usually well behaved :( I feel bad sometimes though as think he's acting up as it's just been him with all our attention for the past 5 years and soon he knows there is going to be someone else here, but he seems v excited and includes baby in everything were going to do in the summer holidays just wish I could know whats going on in his little head :)

firsttobed So happy for you expecting again hope it all goes well for you x

Thanks for the book recomendations marmite will get them on my kindle :)

ham Birth stories: I was 3 days overdue with ds1 and tried everything dp was fed up and came home with some vindaloo (yak) I had 1 spoonfull and a couple of hours later went to bed, woke up at 3am with really achy pains in bump (like strong period pains) went to loo and 'tmi' i'd had a show which was all bloody (unexpected all i'd heard was about green mucus etc) tried not to worry as it was not bright red and had a relaxing bath for 3 hours!!! rang midwife in the morning and she said it was a show and to stay at home until it was too unbearable.
At 7.30pm went in and was 4cm dialated they sent me home and at 2am I was too uncomfortable so went back stayed then until about 3pm next day when they broke my waters I also had the drip to speed things up and at about 5-6pm 'cant remember' began pushing and that was the worst part of it all but then ds was born at 7.02pm and I had forgot about all the pain :)
Sorry for the essay, so I was in labour for a long time really from wed's at 3am to friday at 7pm, really hope this one is much quicker.

MrsMigginslovespies · 24/07/2012 10:58

Oooh, good luck Loupee, thinking of you not too far away from me! Hope it all goes really well and you get to meet your baby today! Amazing!

Had a shocking night's sleep. Was hot, then uncomfy then needed loo twice then sore bla bla bla. But feel ok oddly at the mo but will have a sleep later methinks.

Meant to ask if anyone else has lost toenails recently??!!! I've lost both my pinkie nails recently and it's soo bizarre. Can't remeber bashing them, but maybe. Otherwise, have this crazy notion that my feel are so fat, they're pushing thenails off. Gross, no?!

Re clothes, it's been so bad here, I've worn out my one pair of jeans and refuse to buy a new pair at this stage. So much for my cute dresses that have hardly seen the light of day. Oh well. Raining and muggy again here today, so leggings and tunic top it is then. The thrill!

Happy Tueday ladies. x

ishopthereforeiam · 24/07/2012 11:14

Thanks 3bears - been trying to ignore but the volume of the screaming is so tough! I thought that may be a big factor too - that although only little dd has realised that after months and months things are finally going to change. She doesn't cuddle and kiss the bump quite as much as she used to although she does know the baby's car chair and bed are out so who knows how worried she is about what's going on! Hope your ds also settles soon. Am sure the lack of sleep and hormones are making me more teary than normal!

Loupee how exciting! Good luck Thanks hope it goes smoothly and as painlessly as pos!

mrsm haven't lost toe nails now but did when I was going to the gym a lot and running lots as apparently the friction from shoes can cause it. Have you been walking lots or have your shoes got tighter from swollen feet? Otherwise it could be that baby is taking your calcium?

OP posts:
woopsidaisy · 24/07/2012 11:48

ishop you must ignore! And pick your battles. So she wants to wear jeans...let her! It really isn't that big a deal.
But if it is something you need to say no to, say it and move on. Get on with doing something else. If it is out somewhere, move away slightly and ignore until she calms down. Do not give a hoot about what other people are doing-99.9% of them are thinking "God love that mum,I've been there!".
Let her start making some decisions for herself-like picking out her clothes-she is a big girl now etc. But firm boundaries for other things.

Good luck Loupee!

capecath · 24/07/2012 12:56

Oo Loupee, exciting!!! Sure you will be in good hands at the Royal.

ham can relate to the sleeping being an effort. Had such a bad night last night, can't even remember how many times I was up for loo trip or whatever...

gnomi struggling for clothes at the mo too, although in Scotland heat isn't an issue right now! Even maternity trousers feel so low and my tops starting to creep up. Thinking leggings are the way forward. Last preg was much hotter and I found some stretchy shorts and linen trousers which were great. Could you find something on sale perhaps? Recommend H&M, Matalan, New Look for reasonable prices.

ishop with DS at 23 months we're just getting to that stage... So far best bet has been to try to ignore it. We also find that holding him or hugging him firmly seems to calm him down, before trying to speak to him firmly but calmly. Think we could do with some tips here too!!

Found out baby is 3/5ths engaged yesterday (as suspected due to pelvic pressure)! Kinda exciting to have that confirmed, altho know it could still be weeks before baby arrives. Kinda hoping now baby will hold out at least until after Olympics opening ceremony hmm.....
