Morning all,

Lovely to see you all and have missed you Smile. Had a state visit yesterday from my grandmother visiting from Italy which was lovely as I've not seen her for four years, then Thursday we PAINTED THE NURSERY and Wed involved clearing it all out finally! Today, the PILs arrive in an hour to build it all, so it's all go (eek, will report back later). Can't wait for it to be done and then I can STOP and relax and have some rests and listen to my hypno stuff and wait for baby to come. Picking up pram on Friday and am v excited about seeing it all again, as we chose it in Jan!!

Ontheedge, sorry, but had to have a wee smile at your mum!

And Frilly, really sad to hear about your doggy Sad. Baking sounds like excellent therapy (please send some my way as really fancy lemon cake).
Needles am definitely going to try your Vicks trick as I've also got a very sore, almost burning feeling right under my breastbone that's quite painful at times, esp if I sit down. MW said going on all fours and sort of leaning over also helps with it too.

DH and I need to have THE CHAT soon with MIL etc about the plan for when the baby comes, as I'm paranoid they're going to arrive 20 mins after he's born (even theough they live an hour away)! I know we've had this chat on here before, but it still worries me a bit.

Had a good final ante natal meeting on Tues too (I missed the 2nd class, so went into the next block this month). The more I hear about it, the more I like the idea of the pool. Any one else experienced it? And did you actually give birth in it, or just bob about in labour?

Sorry, am rather out of date now, my the names we're aiming for are Edward James my surname DH last name (my surname as middle name IYSWIM). Really hope they suit him when he arrives, as we've no back up now!

Beautiful day here finally and set to remain so for a bit. Might actually be able to wear some of my other nice maternity stuff at last!

Happy Saturday everyone, may the sun shine on you all xx

geekette · 21/07/2012 09:31

This thread moves... very hard to keep up.

I should find it easier next week as my leave is starting then! Yay! A few weeks earlier than I would like but it is all for a good cause.

To me it sounds like a few weeks make quite a difference in pregnancy. I still want to be pregnant forever!! That could be because this may be my only one and I might still be subconsciously scared of my impending c-section. Whatever it is, I still love having baby in there and don't want it out.

I'll give it another two weeks to catch up with the rest of you.

Re: Olympic tickets are for handball 11 august. My paralympics ones are for 1 Sept.. hoping I will be able to go for one of the games...

Re: names: what a mine field. Nope haven't got one. Dh has torpedoed all mine but isn't forthcoming with any suggestions.

And capecath, what your mum said is really funny! I can, on the other hand, imagine lots of older generation I could have had that conversation with! I would get a mw to explain inductions to her. She is reacting to them in the same way my mum reacted to the "internet"...

geekette · 21/07/2012 09:34

Oops! That was ontheedge not capecath! And today is lazy day for me .

Nightfall1983 · 21/07/2012 10:11

Morning all, so I had two nights of brilliant sleep followed by 2 nights of rubbish sleep Angry. Sucks. Last night took ages to drop off and then woke up about every 20 mins to turn over as shoulder and hip so sore Sad.

Feeling knackered now but TGI Saturday and I'm still in my PJs with DH making me a second cup of tea as we speak...

35 weeks today - whoop! I was having a good think yesterday about whether I really want to keep working till 40 weeks (39+6) and I really think I do, I just don't know if I would cope with being stuck at home for weeks, I'm such a worrier, I have terrible insomnia if I don't have a reason to get up in the morning I'll be on my own all day which would drive me crazy. All that sounds like I won't cope very well when baby gets here but that's so different and I can't wait!!

ontheedgeofwhatever · 21/07/2012 14:59

Bliss absolute bliss

DD at a birthday party and won't be back until about quarter to five. DP out with friends and will pick dd up.

Me sitting on sofa ignoring house work, eating wispa and drinking tea. Baby wriggling about. Not itching too badly.

Can't remember last time I had peace on a Saturday afternoon

Vinolover · 21/07/2012 15:14

Happy weekend all :)

MrsM I had a water birth with my dd and delivered her in there. It was just wonderful and what made it even better was nobody really touched me and when she came out I was the first person to grab her and hold her, the mw only put a mirror into the water to make sure she was coming out properly. I am desperate for another water birth!

Enjoy your peace ontheedge. Im sat home alone at the moment but my dd is due back from the park at any moment and my dh is due in from work too so my peace will be shattered.

I want ot be at your house Frily! I love lemon drizzle cake.

NeedlesCuties · 21/07/2012 17:32

Miggins I laboured for 9 hours in the pool with DS (was in labour for 17 hours from when waters broke till when he was born). I enjoyed the pool, as I had a beautiful lovely trusty canister of gas & air close at hand.

I have a lovely photo of me in the birthing pool that DH took, where I'm smiling and waving. I'm stoned off my t*ts in the photo, but very much enjoying it.

I didn't progress very well in the pool so had to get out to give birth, they had a bed beside the pool, so I transferred onto that to give birth.

I'd recommend the pool for any stage. Give it a go and see what you think, if you aren't keen you can get out and don't need to get back in.

Also, I brought my own towel which I think the hospital had advised.

susiegrapevine · 21/07/2012 19:06

Hey had a good day today pottered about in pj's in the morn then town this afternoon.

Would like to try a water birth myself but I know there probably won't be time to fill a pool so not bothering. Might see if I can go in the bath for a bit as having a homebirth but didn't last time so might just stick with tens and gas and air.

TMI warning. Had sex with dh this morn but had to give up in the end as bump seems bigger so could not find a position that felt comfy except on my back which had to stop after a while for obvious reasons. Dunno what to try next??

Feel like such a useless lump at the mo had to have a nap when we came back from town as sooo tired. So dh started dinner which I was supposed to be getting. Told him he should of woken me.

Westcountrylovescheese · 21/07/2012 19:48

Suzie, that is so sweet of your DH to not have woken you. Enjoy it, it may not last. I'm a knackered wreck all the time so can understand why you fell asleep.

I've been ordered on to the sofa. Pils are coming for lunch tomorrow so instead of a Sunday lunch am doing an indoors picnic. Have spent this afternoon cooking a coffee and walnut cake, quiche and homemade scotch eggs. DH is taking over for our tea...

Sex wise oddly we're at it more than usual (sorry TMI), possibly as we are both aware of positive effects on labour it can have. Like you, only two positions are viable. I am refusing one (from behind) as cannot bear DH to see my bottom (piles). So we are managing on my back but with one side propped up with a pillow, so on an angle.... Ah the romance of pregnancy! Blush

Cankles have returned with a bang in this heat. Sad

eightieshopaholic · 21/07/2012 21:08

Sorry I know its on here somewhere but can't find, how many cups of raspberry tea should you have at 37 weeks? and how spread out should they be?

Ok had spicy food hot nando's, 2 cups of raspberry tea about to make a third, had a walk now going to try an early night!!! what else should I be doing??

Wasn't engaged at scan last week, have visions off being well over!!

Whiteangel · 21/07/2012 21:15

Hi all, had a lovely birthday party today and I've been spoilt rotten. So tired now though! Baby seems to have been wiggling around for three days solid. Think he is trying to push his way out sideways using his feet. Sounds like everyone has had a relaxing Saturday. That is my plan for tomorrow, along with eating left over cake! My sis made me an amazing hamper with a mix of things for me and for baby. So gorgeous and generous. She also made beautiful cupcakes.
Not sure how we are going to get on with the baby eviction plan as DH is too worried about baby to relax so this mornings attempt was rather unsuccessful. May try again if I can stay awake for long enough! For those of you not sleeping, I've found I sleep really well after a warm bath. Soothes all of my aches and pains before I lie down. Night night!

ishopthereforeiam · 22/07/2012 00:15

V Envy of ham west and susie sex what's that!? Became virtually impossible months ago for me Blush

Re the braxton hicks been getting lots in the last few days. I think it was woopsi? who said they hadn't had any? I didn't think I'd had them with dd but turns out I had I just didn't know it - it doesn't really hurt and you can't always tell but the bump goes very hard if that makes sense?

Happy Birthday white! Thanks

Night all

frillylemons · 22/07/2012 08:45

TMI TMI re sex: We found two amazingly comfortable positions yesterday Wink DH on a kitchen chair (which DH cleaned after!) and me on top (I always hate going on top but this was much easier because he was sitting up too. It wasn't too deep so didn't hurt (that's why I don't like on all fours). I actually enjoyed it! Grin

Anyway, I had the best night of sleep I've had in ages last night Smile

Oh, you know I said my old DDog who lived with my parents had to be put down? Well, they went off in their caravan on Friday, visited a puppy and are coming home with it today!! It is a Jack Russell X Bichon Frice which (according to my dad) makes it a B-Russell, so they are calling her Sprout!! When Bea died on Thurs, it was the first time in 27 years they'd not had a dog, hence moving fast with a new one. I'm looking forward to meeting the little one!

Whiteangel · 22/07/2012 10:24

That is so cute! You'll have to share photos of sprout. I grew up with a jack russell and he was very loving, especially when I was a baby. He is right next to me in all of the photos. Make sure your parents let you play too x

MrsMigginslovespies · 22/07/2012 11:57

Hmm to alll the sex. Am super Envy as haven't had any in so long I've forgotten what it's like. DH really not keen with the baby in there, and going through IVF etc puts a dampner at times on things, (plus felt crap a lot). Really hope that side of things comes back at some point, as I do worry about it a bit, esp as it feels like it's been soooo long...

Anyhoo, moving on, PILs yesterday was nice and we got everything built and sorted! Just now got to unpack everything and we're almost there. Shattered today though after a very busy few days with either visitors/clearing up/travelling/unpacking etc etc. Taking it v easy as a result and am still not dressed!! Lovely! DH running me a bath and has been so sweet recently with cooking and generally looking after me a bit.

Thanks too for the info on the pool. Vino, did you feel nervous about delivering your baby yourself? I'd worry I'd drop him, but is it actually easy?! And also (stupid question), were you naked in the pool whilst labouring, or did you have a bikini top etc on? I'm really coming round to the idea, must say.

Frilly, lovely news re Sprout (v cute name too)! Please post up photos! We've just bathed DDog and she's now RACING round the house like a nutter! Hilarious!

Happy Sunday everyone, hope everyone has a good 'un x

NeedlesCuties · 22/07/2012 14:27

Miggins I wore a tankini top in the birthing pool. Had a nightie close at hand for putting on afterwards and for during stitches.

forgetfulmrs · 22/07/2012 16:43

Needles/Vino I would love to at least labour in the pool too. There is only one pool at my hospital though so its first come first served unfortunately. I dont want to get my hopes up then find the pool is already occupied when I get there. Its good to hear positive experiences though.

Eighties Hope you enjoyed your rest yesterday. You must be so nervous and excited about next week. I am due 6th so close to your due date. Have a hospital appointment on Wed so will be thinking of you on Wed and wishing you a swift and smooth labour Smile

I was induced with DS as no movement by 42 weeks, not sure if that generally sets the pattern for subsequent pregnancies? Does anyone else know?

Have had family over for lunch today. They've left now and the dishwasher is taking care of the plates so I can put my feet up for a few minutes at least yay.

Has anyone else started to count down by days now rather than weeks?

Westcountrylovescheese · 22/07/2012 18:13

15 days.... Confused

ishopthereforeiam · 22/07/2012 18:27

forgetful wow - can't believe they made you wait til 42 weeks (!) I thought they'd do a sweep and induce at 41 weeks!? Not sure if it sets a precedent as a friend was a week early with her first and a week late with her second?

west not long to go now!

Under a week to go here - 5 days Shock getting a bit nervous about the c/s as tried not to think about it til now but am sure all will be fine.

Last minute hitch on the name - we had it all sorted (initially I wanted my maiden name as a middle name for dstobe as we're all girls so no-one to carry the family name on... DH vetoed. So then last night I thought it may be nice to have my dad's name as a middle name for DStobe but DH isn't keen on that either. Just seems like a shame that I get to carry a baby for 9 months and bf it etc but not have so much say here)... If we use my dad's name as a middle name dh won't be happy but if we don't I won't be happy. I was q reluctant to change name when I got married too but buckled after a year... Hmm Sad

OP posts:
Westcountrylovescheese · 22/07/2012 18:41

Ishop why is your DH vetoing? Mine wasn't keen on having a maiden name as a middle name because it seemed like two surnames which might get double barrelled, but we are having my fathers name as a middle name instead. It's a compromise...

My maiden name is also one that could, in other languages (Latin, Spanish, French) be translated and used as a forename. Unfortunately I don't really like the names so haven't pushed more than a suggestion. But could this work for you too?

...having said that could be worth trying and then 'compromising' down to your original idea... Wink

Woodstockmumma · 22/07/2012 19:28

Hello everybody, hope you don't mind me butting in so late in the day. I'm due August 4th. Anyway, my big question is is anybody living in the Oxford/ Woodstock area? My midwife has been planning to set up a coffee morning as she says there are lots of preggars about around here, but it's been a good number of months now, and no movement on the coffee organisation front, so... are any of these mystery local pregnant ladies YOU?! (I'd be very proud if I managed to track you down myself!)

hamncheese · 22/07/2012 20:19

So, sex. Going to be honest and say that when we did it on Friday it was the first time since TTC for penetrative. Been keeping fairly regular with other sorts of activities which honestly I found more fun as there was always that slight worry with sex in the early days. Did find it kind of awkward too susie with me on my back. It wasn't too bad as we warmed up quite a lot so not as long spent on my back... so that might help! DH said he pulled something while doing it due to bump avoidance hahaha! It's not exactly romantic though. Honestly wouldn't be bothering with penetrative sex at this point if there weren't the benefits of potentially bringing on labour. I'd give frillys chair idea a go if I wasn't totally convinced I wouldn't have the energy for being on top Blush

Hmm that's not very fair your DH not wanting your maiden name/dad's name for a middle name ishop. Honestly I don't really mind what ours middle names will be and if DH had one he really liked that I didn't want for a first name I'd reckon middle a good compromise. Someone on here was talking of bringing up the name they wanted in labour (or section) when DH would be seeing all the hard work you are doing and more likely to be open to it? (that's me putting it in a way that doesn't make it seem like blackmail hehe, I'm lucky we are already decided!)

My gran was a poor soul yesterday when visiting but was better today which is good. Hopefully home to the end of the week. It's just a UTI but as she is old it hits hard and she was really confused and scared by it all.

Lots of happenings in bump recently. Period pains often. Proper braxton hicks when out walking yesterday... wasn't at all sore, just like a massive elastic band on bump pulling tight, crazy! And it seems that my body just evacuates anything I eat really speedily these days. I wonder if all this stuff is a sign things are getting nearer or just this stage of pregnancy? Either way, only 3 weeks - 20 days to go - and so exciting! Come on baby!

Vinolover · 22/07/2012 21:40

We tried that position a couple of weeks ago with the chair (kiddies were away) and it worked but my legs were like jelly after Blush. I am so unfit at the moment. I'm afraid we just do the standard missionary at the moment which I feel bad about but it's not forever and it gets the job done Wink. DH's only complaint is he can't collapse on me afterwards lol.

When my dd was being born MrsM I honestly didn't think about it being me who was delivering her, it just kind of happened and my instincts must have just kicked in. When I pulled her out the water the MW told me to hold her back in the water and being quite dazed, I literally dunked her back in and nearly drowned the poor mite.
I was completely naked in the pool as I didn't imagine it would be available for me to use so I didn't think about taking anything in. I was slumped over the side all the time anyway so it wasn't too bad.

susiegrapevine · 22/07/2012 21:41

Tmi warning frilly thanks for the tip but this was uncomfortable with me on top not in a chair but sitting up on the bed using the headboard for leverage but this timw felt all weird and uncomfy cos bump was squashing up against dh too much!

ham will try more warm up time this time I think dh is all too eagar to go straight for the goal lol! Have been having sex through out tho norm only at weekends as too tired otherwise I am normally way more horny during pregnancy especially nearer the end. Sex defo worked for us with ds had sex the night before, my waters broke at 5.20am and I went into labour! Will be trying that again but am not 37 weeks yet so hopefully nothing will happen before term!

What a lovely sunny sunday its been. Took ds to a country fair in park with animals and a small fun fair then back to my parents for a lovely bbq and saw the red arrows from there garden tho not the full display still good one flew right over us!

forgetfulmrs · 22/07/2012 21:59

Whoa ladies hold it with all the sex talk you are making my DH think it is possible for us too!!! My bump sticks out by about 2 feet so I can't see how we'd get close enough Blush Dont think we've managed it since 30 weeks poor man.

ishop to be fair to them I did have a sweep at 40+6 but cervix wasn't even soft. Had a couple more then hormone tablet at 41+5 and he finally arrived bang on 42 weeks. He was obviously very comfy in there.
