Actually very calmly, I laughed and told my DP that he was going to be over run by girls. Although it could very obviously be boys, but it was funny. We just kept chuckling and laughing about it. We're very calm about it, and I was about the first so I think it'll be quite cool. Got to have serial scans every 4 weeks I think.

Re Downs screening, we couldn't have it with our first, she was too wriggly, but I think we're having it done this time, although for me it doesn't change anything about what I'd do. Do you have the final say?

orangewellies · 19/07/2012 18:45

wow look thats great! Are there twins in your family or was it out of the blue?

Queenrollo I am the same age as you and I will have the nuchal test but i think thats different from the triple is it?

morecoffee congrats on your scan, how nice to see the bub.

I have no reason to think there's anything wrong with my pg, but still i am constantly anxious of something going wrong and really can't seem to relax about it, just can't wait to get scan done...

queenrollo · 19/07/2012 18:58

my hospital has only fairly recently started doing the nuchal so I will have that, but they often like to do the blood test alongside it to 'get a fuller picture' of your level of risk. It will make no difference to me, I will have the baby no matter what.

Basically they can't run any tests without my consent anyway.

LookAtHerGo · 19/07/2012 19:23

There actually are twins on my side, and everyone joked that I'd have the twins if anyone was going to, but you know it's not massively likely so you don't really think you will, but in the same respect it's not quite as shocking as totally out of the blue. And yes, I was v nervous before the scan, you just have to keep everything crossed. Hope all is ok for you.

I declined the trip,e test last time, figured that if nuchal couldn't be done I wasn't going to bother with the bloods.

Want2bSupermum · 19/07/2012 21:14

Look Congrats on twins. They run in my family but will hopfully skip me! DD will be 18 months old when DC is born so I was very happy to see only one baby inside.

I have had a headache for 3 days now with nausea. I threw up this morning and had tummy ache all morning. Our flights back home were horrendous. We started at a small airport in Denmark and they made us check in our stroller. I ended up carrying DD from one end of Copenhagen airport to the other because they didn't have any strollers or carts available. We ended up short of diapers because the stupid security lady at the first airport pulled apart the diaper bag and 3 diapers went AWOL.

FWIW - Airlines don't carry diapers on board anymore but they do carry sanitary towels. Poor DD had two of them back to back inside her diaper.

LookAtHerGo · 19/07/2012 21:36

DD will be 17 months if I get to full term! Hehe! Sounds like a rubbish trip and few days for you. Hope you feel better soon

FidgetPie · 19/07/2012 23:21

Ahh that is great news LookAtHerGo - congratulations!

WhatWillSantaBring · 20/07/2012 11:22

I'm secretly Envy of you Look - I want twins as I've always wanted more than two DC, but I don't think we'd be in a position financially to have a third after this one... so if we have twins now, then I've got the three DC I want without agonising over whether we can justify it Grin. I'm convinced its two, but I'm sure thats just wishful thinking (I've already got a lot bigger round my tum than last time - and I'm only 8 weeks - and my first BFP on 4+3 said I was 3-4 weeks (it should say 1-2 weeks). But I think its just wishful thinking.

Your flight sounds a nightmare supermum - I have a big rant whenever I talk about pushchairs on planes. Even if you can keep them before your board, you don't get them back till you get you luggage. Queuing at US immigration for three hours at 10pm (GMT+8hours) with a toddler who hasn't slept, anyone?

For me with Down's screening, I'd rather know in advance than get a surprise on the day, if that makes sense. Though I think its a more complicated decision with DC2 as you have the conflicting feelings of actually knowing that you would love a Downs DC just as much (if not more) than any other child with the knowledge that your decision has an lifetime impact on your existing DC, if that makes sense. I know people who have had to make the decision and I just pray that I don't have to, because it must be the hardest decision in the world. Sad

I feel like everyone is having scans but me - at least three weeks to go here [impatient emoticon]

WhatWillSantaBring · 20/07/2012 11:24

Sorry, rambling, repetitive post... I'm shattered today!

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 20/07/2012 12:04

Twins! Congratulations!!

I have a scan a week Tuesday there have been loads lately getting very very impatient!

StrangelyCalm · 20/07/2012 14:02

Twins - Congratulations! That would terrify me, I'm not completely sure I'm going to cope with just the one!

I seem to be getting bigger by the day, so glad that we can start telling people after the scan on Monday. My Mum arrives on Sunday (she lives abroad) and I'm so looking forward to seeing her as she hasn't been over since November, and telling her will be amazing, but I know she's going to start asking all the practical questions that me and DH are sort of avoiding at the moment.

The bottom line is that we have our own business (a pub - God help us), work every hour all the time, can't really afford staff and have no idea how a baby is going to somehow fit into our lives? The pregnancy was a huge surprise, but we are absolutely delighted as we never thought it could happen and had given up hope. We are determined to just go with it and see how it all pans out. Tell me people, am I deluded? Should I be doing masses of planning and preparation? Should we sell up? Should DH get a "sensible" job?

HELP!!!

Excuse the massive (boring) post. On a brighter note, has enyone else tried the new choc chip hob nobs - they're great.

ATourchOfInsanity · 21/07/2012 00:03

Hi guys - wondered if I can join? Dating scan on Monday as unsure of when my last period was, but think somewhere around 7 weeks :)
Already have a DD who is 11mo and this was not expected so soon! Looking forward to reading over some old threads and getting to know you all :)

somethingwittynot · 21/07/2012 10:48

8+2 today scan date on the 2oth of august and consultant on the 21st! on wednesday my DS is 6 months Grin

StrangelyCalm · 21/07/2012 11:57

Welcome ATourchOfInsanity.
There is also a secret Facebook Group - links further back the thread.

Want2bSupermum · 21/07/2012 13:02

Santa I guess you were at LAX or SFO? We are EWR regulars and I have to say they have been fab so far. It helps that DH knows everyone at security as he flys 3-4 times a week. Immigration took us 30min because of the stupid woman in Denmark who didn't put DD on the flight list. The agent got me a chair to sit in because he could see I wasn't doing too well.

I do find flying within Europe to be much worse than the US. Small things like priority boarding make a huge difference when you have small children. As frequent flyers we both have priority boarding yet as economy extra passengers we are always the last to board when leaving Europe. Only at MAN airport would you be downgraded from business to economy by a ground employee who has nothing to do with the airline because you are with a baby.

Here in the US nucal fold testing plus full blood work is the norm. I did my tests yesterday. The tests include a full genetic screen if something iffy pops up however the test is only done if they think it is necessary. She said it is much better than doing CVS or amnio.

MarmaladeSandwiches · 22/07/2012 12:29

Hey all, I haven't been on here for ages and keep missing so much! I don't come on here much, as I'm still really paranoid about doing or talking about anything baby-related - can't quite believe I'm finally pg, not many symptoms, etc etc, ya-di-ya. I think after I've got to 12 weeks and had a scan that shows everything is fine, I'll chill out a bit and start believing it's going to happen and post on here lots more! Hope noone minds me dropping off the radar for ages and reappearing every so often.

Congrats on the twins, LookAtHerGo! I have LOTS of twins in my family and have always thought that I'd have twins too. But my early 6 week scan only showed the one. Perhaps it's best as this is my first and one is enough while I have no idea what I'm doing! Maybe next time after I've perfected my parenting technique, ahem

I know what you mean about having a "sensible" job, StrangelyCalm. I love mine, but I'm self-employed and have absolutely no job security and will have no money coming in if I take time off with the baby. I've thought about this too, but decided I don't want to change careers and currently trying to do my best to frantically save up enough to live on during my lean months. I'm hoping there's some kind of government statuory maternity pay I can claim! Does anyone know? I'm going to start looking into this.

Happy Sunday everyone, finally some sunshine Grin

ATourchOfInsanity · 23/07/2012 00:15

Anyone else showing a lot already? I showed quite early last time - am usually quite slim so not sure if that is why it seems to be more noticeable or whether this time, as it is my 2nd, my tummy muscles aren't up to the job of holding in a blueberry Confused Found it a bit depressing today as had bought a lot of summer outfits thinking that I would FINALLY be able to fit into something cool after being pg last year...and woosh, as soon as the sun appears so does my abdomen. Grumble grumble Wink

Ah well. At least I can let it all hang out in my garden this week I guess. Going to bring all my maternity clothes down from the attic tomorrow (only put them away 3 months ago!).

MarmaladeSandwiches · 23/07/2012 10:22

Yes, I am showing loads too! Seems odd as it's my first so you'd think my stomach muscles would be up to the job, esp since the baby is teeny, but apparently not. I asked the midwife at my booking-in appt and she said I was bound to be full of fluid as our hormones are going haywire at this point! So I guess it's 97% bloating and fluid, 3% baby Smile I haven't told anyone in real life yet, except my OH, and I'm so paranoid people can tell just from looking at my huge stomach Blush

bopfactory · 23/07/2012 12:24

Marmalade if you're self-employed you can claim Statutory Maternity Allowance (about 120 quid a week for 39 weeks if I remember correctly from last time round...) Details here

Still no sign of a scan appointment for me... though I will be 12 weeks next week! Midwife is re-faxing the form and gave me a number to call to chase it up but I've been ringing all morning and it's permanently engaged... sigh.

Want2bSupermum · 23/07/2012 13:57

Hi Insanity I replied to your post regarding strollers. I am starting to show but I think it is because I am so bloated. I got horrible gas pains yesterday morning. I think it was because I didn't have a proper breakfast. We had DD's 1st birthday party yesterday. DH and I were both fast asleep by 8.15 last night!

WhatWillSantaBring · 23/07/2012 14:20

Glad its not just me with horrible gas pains. There have been a few days when I've hardly been able to move for the pain! I'm showing lots too - though I also noticed that I've put lots of weight on round my face... I can't work out whether its just because I'm eating more (to stave off the nausea) - I don't think so as I do snack on lower calorie snacks, but I'm already feeling hideous.

You were downgraded because you had a child?? OMG, I hope you kicked up a stink. [never flown more than economy plus so don't know what I'm missing but I hear that they have magical things in business, like "space" and "cutlery" and actual food?

orangewellies · 23/07/2012 18:48

Bad news here I'm afraid - I started bleeding at the weekend and today scan confirmed embryo stopped growing at 6 weeks. Really annoyed with my body for waiting until 10 weeks to tell me. Felt like I was nearly out of the woods. Anyway i'm trying to be philosophical about it all but a bit gutted.

Wishing you all healthy pregs and please could someone take me off the list when stats are updated x

StrangelyCalm · 23/07/2012 22:49

Really sorry to hear that news orange, hope you are doing ok. x

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 23/07/2012 22:52

So sorry to hear that orange, take care of yourself and thinking of you x

FidgetPie · 23/07/2012 23:03
