Welcome to the newbies Smile

woody how did your scan go?

I'm Envy of those who have had early scans, still got 3 weeks to wait for mine.

I would describe my nausea as travel sickness too - that queasy feeling that never goes away and makes the thought of food offputting. Def worse when i haven't eaten - this week i have mostly been snacking on fizzy sweets, the sourer the better - my salt and vinegar cravings have gone and i can't bear the thought of all those snacks in our cupboard now! Bizarre!

FidgetPie · 13/07/2012 17:36

Stats thread is here

(When we start our next thread we should add it to the opening post.)

Hope everyone has a nice restful weekend

Imogencodpiece · 13/07/2012 18:19

Thanks everyone :) and thank you queenrollo for the instructions Smile still getting to grips with all the lingo and stuff Grin can anyone tell me how long it normally takes for a midwife to contact you? 'confirmed' being pregnant on the 4th July and they took my number at the dr's and they said they would ring me but iv heard nothing? 9 weeks this week and dr did say they would want to see me for my booking in at about 10-12 weeks, but am I not supposed to be having a scan at 12 weeks? so confused as to how all this works!

orangewellies · 13/07/2012 18:44

Imogen I know it varies from place to place but are you sure you have to wait to be contacted - I had to phone up and ask for a booking in appointment - might be worth checking in case... I had booking in at 7.5 weeks and 12 week scan was booked then.

Pinkie29 · 13/07/2012 22:04

Imogen I called my surgery then they had the midwife call me a day or two later, if your 9 weeks I'd say give em a call and get things moving Smile

StrangelyCalm · 14/07/2012 00:16

Hi Imogen I'm still waiting for the midwife to call for my "booking in" appointment - have called them a couple of times, but they never phone me back. Had dating scan last week, and a 12 week scan booked for a week on Monday (I'm 10+4). I wonder will I have the 12 week scan before seeing a midwife??!

Welcome new joiners! Jojo - that's amazing - we'd given up hope too after about 4 years... proves, some things are just meant to be!

woody17 · 14/07/2012 08:14

Hi everyone - everything at the scan was fine. Saw the heartbeat, which was amazing. People at the EPU were really nice. So hoping that now we've seen the heartbeat all will be ok.

OH is now really keen to tell everyone but I'd rather wait a few more weeks.

We've got a big night out next Saturday - normally on this kind of night out, I would be drinking, having shots etc. But I'm not ready to tell people and I'm thinking of ways to hide the fact that I am not drinking. OH thinks we should just tell people... Does anyone have any advice?

queenrollo · 14/07/2012 08:17

imogen if you find the number direct for your midwives office (or phone your hospital switchboard and ask to be put through) I'd speak to them direct to clarify how it works in your area.
Here my surgery were a bit...er....unsure. The first available appt for booking in was/is when I am 11 weeks(ish) and I thought that was too far away. I spoke to my Community Midwife (who I contacted direct as per my first sentence) and she was a little exasperated with the surgery. I had to take the late July appt as it is the only one she has, but was told that my surgery should have booked me in with my GP too as he is supposed to do my ante-natal referal which gets me on the system for scan appts etc. She helpfully bypassed them and did the referral herself and sent me the blood form direct so I can see my Practice Nurse to have that done.
Different PCT's do it all differently, and so you need to be quite pro-active to make sure you don't get left behind. Having dealt with our local NHS for the last 18 months due to to fertility investigations I've developed a pretty thick skin when it comes to being quite forthright with them.

Welcome to all other newcomers Smile
jojo that's quite amazng. It's taken me two and a half years and several investigations and surgery to get pregnant this time (DC2 for me) with a miscarriage in january and I began to despair of ever having another baby.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 14/07/2012 08:41

Woody it's surprisingly easy to pretend to drink. Just keep asking your oh for vodka & lemonades (just lemonade etc) about an hour in to the night when everyone starts getting tipsy they just don't notice.

JoJoBella84 · 14/07/2012 10:01

Thank you everyone, woody just say you're on antibiotics for a week. Though WhosPickleisThatOnions suggestion sounds fab too! Most people don't realise once they're drunk!!
I too am not keen to inform the world yet, I guess there's still a small part of me which doesn't believe I'm really expecting! - despite the sore boobs and morning sickness! Thinks will be very different after my dating scan.
QueenRolo thank you, I didn't have many investigations - a few blood tests, and a diagnosis of PCOS (despite no scan). Though I initially started trying with my ex-husband, I was very young and told not to worry about such things. Then told I was not entitled to fertility tests until I reached the age of 25 (which I have since been told is wrong). My OH genuinely believes that my body knew not to have my husbands baby :) I had been unofficially trying with my OH for 2 years so utterly delighted with the news. I'm just hoping for a smooth pregnancy - especially as I'm starting my final year of Uni in September and can do without extra stress :)

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 14/07/2012 10:12

Hmmmm the minute anyone says they are antibiotics though I'm well suspicious!

morecoffeemorecoffee · 14/07/2012 10:22

Hi everyone, not been on in a while. Welcome imogen, cackle and jojo.

Hope everyones ok.

Woody hope your scan went well.

I feel like this 1st trimester is taking forever! I'm so fed up of the secret and want to tell everyone! Got our 1st scan on Friday and I will be 9+6 by my calculations but I'm so hoping I'm further along! Don't feel like I have much to share at the moment. Lost my symptoms yesterday so worried a bit, but trying to be positive.

morecoffeemorecoffee · 14/07/2012 10:25

Pickle I'm the same about antibiotics! I immediately think 'pregnant!' I have done the vodka + coke thing (but only.had the coke) people are clueless after they've had a few drinks!

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 14/07/2012 10:51

Yeah it's obvious. To be fair if you enjoy a drink there is no way you would take antibiotics around a big night out (unless it was serious and then you wouldn't be out.)

I'm a suspicious minded person though!

JoJoBella84 · 14/07/2012 14:47

I must admit I would be suspicious too, however my friends always buy drinks in a round so it's not like I could just tell my OH to play along with my vodka and coke deception because eventually I would be presented with real vodka!!
Hmmm, it's a tricky one. Luckily, I'm not a big drinker so I could get away without question :)

StrangelyCalm · 14/07/2012 14:54

The drinking issue is a tricky one for me too as everyone knows I only really drink wine (every night - and work in a pub), so it's a really hard one to conceal. Makes me more paranoid that everyone already suspects!! I've just been generally ellusive and looking busy whilst drinking blackcurrant and soda (looks like rose) or lime and soda (pass as a spritzer?) out of a wine glass.... Speaking of which, does anyone know of a half decent "alcohol free wine"? I'm sure it's probably vile though...

Thankfully only a week and a half until I can tell people and then it should get easier!

Glad scan went well Woody.

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 14/07/2012 20:25

Lime & Soda is good.. I dont think id bother with an Alchohol free wine, Scholer is MINGING. The fizzy fruit punches you can get are much nicer.

Pinkie29 · 15/07/2012 09:15

Glad your scan wend well woody Smile

Have any of you ladies had trouble buying maternity wear? Mw and dp went to Peterborough yesterday and literally nowhere in the town centre or shopping centres sold them! Found myself turning into an angry frustrated preggers lady!!

I just need some work trousers and jeans atm as can't get into my regular jeans and work stuff is becoming increasingly tight! Found a couple of items in H&M but they were cheap looking and overpriced!

haloflo · 15/07/2012 11:44

pinkie The only shop in my local town that sells maternity clothes is New Look which is where I got my first pair of maternity work trousers (about £12!) and jeans (maybe £14?) Quality wasn't amazing but I just threw them out a couple of months after the birth. I braved the Trafford Centre when 20 weeks last time and even that was rubbish. Can you order online and return to stores?

morecoffee Hormones fluctuate I find, I hope you aren't to worried today.

No idea about alcohol free wine but becks blue is almost as good as real becks.

I am going to add myself to the stats list as this is the first time I've had the energy to go on the PC during nap time in a while.

I have my first appointment with the midwife on Tuesday, I am hoping she will book my scan on the phone there and then as that is what happened last time.

Pinkie29 · 15/07/2012 18:21

A lot offer online but in a bit wary as not sure what size I'll need? I'm usually a 10 but am very short do tend to need a size smaller in dresses, my local new look has a small section I just assumed the bigger stores would have more to choose from Sad

Wasn't a totally wasted day tho we went to the Kiddicare and it was huge a whole 3 floors one with just pushchairs!! I'm after a 3 in 1 travel system where the pushchair faces me if anyone's got any ideas? Saw some lovely bedroom furniture sets too!

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 15/07/2012 19:53

I'd try some stuff on first pinkie in shops your body changes a bit too as you may get bigger on bums hips & boobs!

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 15/07/2012 19:54

But online is the way to go much better than shops. Try a few bits on in new look and order better things online!

Want2bSupermum · 15/07/2012 22:21

Just checking in. In Denmark visiting the inlaws. We told everyone as SIL and her OH smoke a lot. I struggle with cigarette smoke and it makes me heave. The Danes are also into their Schnaps so easier to tell everyone than have lots of comments.

I was working when pregnant with DD and found dresses much easier than trousers and pregnancy tops. I bought support tights two sizes up and they were very comfortable. I was able to get pea in the pod dresses reduced from $200 to $50-60. I bought 6 dresses and wore my regular jackets/ cardigans over them. It might be worth checking the US websites to see if they deliver to the UK. Motherhood maternity is the cheaper line of pea in the pod. Their prices are great (eg $10 for a dress on sale) but a lot of it is polyester. I was in my regular clothes until I was 22 weeks last time and I hope I make it to 20 weeks this time.

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 15/07/2012 22:29

What's a pea in the pod dress? They sound brilliant!

somethingwittynot · 16/07/2012 08:23

evil SIL had her baby last night 6lb 15oz only one oz bigger than her DD
