orangewellies · 02/07/2012 16:33

Welcome mammy and congrats!

I had my booking in today and it was just as freerange said - loads of questions on medical history, previous pregnancy/birth (if any) and took blood pressure, urine and blood samples.

aurora the blood is taken for screening - to check blood group, various diseases like hepatitis, HIV, syphalis etc and to check antibodies for eg german measles.

just got to wait for scan date now...

AuroraOrtiz · 02/07/2012 16:43

Thanks for the info Orange. I hate having my blood taken as they can never find a vein, but I guess I have to be brave - there is much more scary stuff to come in 7 months time!

WhatWillSantaBring · 02/07/2012 17:03

You'll get used to it aurora - I hated it too before DC1 but it really gets you over the whole needle thing! And also, some of the nurses and midwives who took my blood were so amazing i genuinely didn't even feel some of them. Maybe they're nicer to pregnant women?

Has anyone got ideas on how I can explain away the sea bands to people if they ask? I wondered if I could claim they were advised by some alternative therapist to help prevent, I dunno, insomnia?

SlightlyBabyCrazed · 02/07/2012 17:24

Mammy - congratulations and you sound like an amazingly strong woman!

SlightlyBabyCrazed · 02/07/2012 17:25

Santa-how about saying you've got an ear infection and they help with the vertigo?

VickyU · 02/07/2012 17:51

Hi everyone! Can I join too please! I'm due on February 13th. New to Mumsnet so not really up with all the lingo yet but its my first baby and I am having every symptom going. The sickness is definitely the worst though. I can't eat anything at all except dry toast and sometimes a bit of fruit. Finding it so difficult not telling anybody especially as all my friends are wondering where I've gone! Any one else having difficulty not telling people?

Any tips on sickness much appreciated. Two seabands on both wrists as I type.

Crackers83 · 02/07/2012 18:13

Hi All, I'm due 4th Feb, and am 9 weeks today, I had an ectopic in Feb this year (treated with methetrexate) and fell pg again pretty quick afterwards as soon as I was able to try again. I'm a first timer, i havent felt too bad, had bad sickness in weeks 6-7 but its not so bad now but I am really tired all the time! Had my booking in appt with MW last week which seemed to make it all a bit more real. I had a scan at 7 weeks just to check it was all in the right place this time which thankfully it was. Saw heartbeat which was very reassuring. Just waiting for a date for my scan now. Will be so glad to get to 12 weeks, I feel that there is so much pressue around this, and its even harder when you cant really tell anyone! Be nice to chat to you all and share experiences!

FidgetPie · 02/07/2012 18:44

Well after the slightly worrying phone message from my doctors on Friday afternoon, I rang them today to find out it is nothing to worry about. My pregnancy test was fine (positive!) and they just want me to make an appt to see the doctor - 'as he will like to know you are pregnant' - they recently referred us to a fertility unit (which we discovered the day before the appt we didn't need anymore!). So I have made the appt (which seems a waste of time but never mind!). I was going to say something to her about leaving more tactful messages, but bottled out - gutless wonder that I am!

I told my manager today - as I was planning on changing jobs in Oct and they are recruiting my replacement - but now I think I might as well stay till my mat leave in Jan... anyway we agreed will wait see what the potential candidates are like and decide after that!

Whatwillsantabring - I didn't know squares were lower fat - that is great news as I had a packet (salt & vinegar of course!) today.

Aurora - I found it easier than usual (also have rubbish veins) to give blood when I pregnant - i think the extra blood circulating makes them more prominent.

MammyToMany · 02/07/2012 19:10

Thank you for the welcomes Smile

I've made an appointment with the midwife but the first available one isn't until the 16th July.

I've sent a message I think about the fb group, I'm on a post natal one for ds3 and it's been lovely to be able to be able to see photos of our babies growing up.

I'm not worried about the birth (I touch wood have had easy and pretty pain free labours in the past, ds3 was born in 20 minutes) it's the after pains that scare me, they get worse after every birth and ds3s bought me to my knees so god knows what it will feel like this time.

I already have names picked out from last time, and have a lot of baby stuff already so no name books or eBay to pass the time

HappyLittleLady · 02/07/2012 19:12

Oh and what is the Facebook page please? I would like to join that too :) who do I need to add? Thank you x

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 02/07/2012 19:13

You need to add BeanDunne - she has put a link on the thread but it may be a way up - if you PM her she can add you in..

HappyLittleLady · 02/07/2012 19:15

Thank you whospickle I will have a look now :) x

dreamydays · 02/07/2012 19:17

Mammy, Happy, crackers welcome and congrats!

SlightlyBabyCrazed · 02/07/2012 19:45

The Facebook page is totally safe and I find it easy to work with than this thread!

AuroraOrtiz · 02/07/2012 19:52

Thanks Santa and fidget for the positive blood taking stories! I am due 17 feb - I wasn't on the list but I might not have said my DD.
I've just turned into a cliche and eaten half a jar of gherkins.

SlightlyBabyCrazed · 03/07/2012 08:01

Off to my 8 week scan shortly, wish me luck - am terrified there's gong to be nothing in there!

carries · 03/07/2012 08:07

Welcome Mammy, Happy, crackers & congratulations!

I've got my booking in appt with midwife on Thursday (5th) & I'll be 8 weeks exactly. Hopefully I'll get booked in for a scan 2 weeks later. Our hospital does a 10 & 20 week scan.

My DH has just brought me a cup of tea in bed. I'm so off tea, I'm usually a tea-jenny, but I'll put it down as a nice thought :). Even though I've done this pregnancy thing twice before, I still find it weird how one goes off normal & favourite foods. I don't want cereal, milk, cake, biscuits, desserts, tea, coffee, chocolate but chicken, potatoes, veg (esp broccoli), special fried rice & salt & vinegar crisps all taste wonderful. Also can only take sips of water, most other drinks taste vile.

MammyToMany · 03/07/2012 08:58

I have gone off chocolate Shock the thought of eating it makes me feel sick. I have a box of mini flakes in the kitchen sitting there all abandoned.

I fell asleep last night putting ds3 to bed (he sleeps in my bed still and I was laying down with him) in my clothes, with the tv on downstairs and the back door unlocked. I was exhausted but now I have to do last nights house work this morning grrr.

Told exp that I was pregnant yesterday, he wasn't as bad as I thought he would be (he was a nightmare when I fell pregnant with ds3, he never wanted children. The older Dc aren't his) he isn't pleased but says he will be supportive yeah right so at least that's over with. We won't be telling anyone else until we can't hide it anymore.

WhatWillSantaBring · 03/07/2012 09:15

I so love that excuse slightly - perfect. I'm going on holiday with a friend next week and I so do not want to tell her - she's got a big mouth and I don't trust her not to tell my mum or my other friends (she has form...) but I can't see how I'll get away with it.

I can't decide if I feel sicker this time than I did with DD1... when I did the HPT at 4+2 it was reading a week further along (clear blue digital). I've read that means twins, which would terrify my but I'd be secretly pleased as it would resthe "do we have a third child" debate! Grin

AuroraOrtiz · 03/07/2012 09:53

Santa, I'm going on holiday next wednesday with friends and it's going to be tricky getting out of drinking but I'm going to say I'm on antibiotics. If your friend probes further just say you've got a urinary tract infection - it's all the rage, and will also explain if you keep having to go for a wee!

SlightlyBabyCrazed · 03/07/2012 11:17

So, we have a viable pregnancy- little heart beat and all! Was a bit painful as my womb is tilted so it took some digging and my worrying, but she found it! DH cried like a baby, I wash awash with happiness!

queenrollo · 03/07/2012 11:27

Smile SBC that's brilliant. I know my Dh will cry at the scan....

somethingwittynot · 03/07/2012 12:32

scans a week today!

SundaySunshine · 03/07/2012 14:27

SBC that's such great news, congratulations!

I still seem to be symptomless, which is rather disconcerting. I'm glad I'm not the only one still testing morecoffee. Did a clear blue most recently and got a good strong line so hopefully all my stressing is over nothing, but feel I can't relax until I have the scan and test results.

It seems odd that we are all getting a slightly different programme of care, my first mw appointment is on the same day as
my 12 week scan, and my dr didn't take any blood/urine.
