:o generic
I see what you mean about the not being able to wriggle under a growbag.

While we're on the topic and since I'm a total, utter baby novice what are you supposed to do with those weird attachable cover things that come with most moses baskets? They look of questionable use and safety to me?

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 15/06/2012 16:54

I told DH that the baby kicks whenever I did pelvic floor exercises and that I wondered if I was squishing it, and he said "no offense, but your pelvic floor is not that good!". Bastard! Shock There's nowt wrong with my pelvic floor, the cheeky sod. Angry Shock

Stacks · 15/06/2012 18:20

Hehe fluff though how far into your abdomen does your DH thinks he reaches? Perhaps you could give a belated comeback of "no offense, but you're not that big"

NinjaChipmunk · 15/06/2012 18:26

I'm not quite sure what I've managed to miss today but heading to the ttc fred to check it out!

Evening all, can I have some knitting help please. Have finally got to the arm shaping bit on the back of a little cardigan and I'm not confident on my understabding of the instructions. It says:

Cast off 3sts at beg of next two rows. Work two rows

So does that mean cast off 3 on the knit row then cast off 3 on the purl row then do a normal knit row purl row?
Also

Dec 1st at each end of next and following 4th row then on every foll alt row ending with a P row

So does that mean dec 1 at each end of knit row then do P row K row P row dec 1 each end on K row. Then 1 each end on every knit row until it has right number of stitches left?

Thanks all, will post this in a couple of places cause I can't remember who knits :)

musicalmrs · 15/06/2012 23:20

Thanks Olives, I'll check them out over the weekend! :-)

Loopy, sadly I can't use Merino due to lanolin content - something I think FluffyPop is concerned about too.

Fluffy, I've been roughly doing feet to foot with DD in the grobag, just letting the excess dangle out or fold onto her legs. However, she's a wriggle and often makes her way up the basket, so isn't in the initial position for long!

I've not been using the attachable cover that came with DD's basket for the reasons you list...

Loopyhasanotherbean · 16/06/2012 09:43

we always left the cover on our moses basket and never had a problem with it, but guess each basket is different? Re sleeping bags, we folded the excess length underneath DS, which kept him from moving around too much when he was little, but the merino ones are thinner and far less bulky than other ones, so it's easy to fold them underneath. musical what is wrong with lanolin?

(and sorry i can't help re knitting, i haven't knitted for about 20 years!)

Stacks · 16/06/2012 10:45

Morning everyone. We'll it's my birthday today. June sends to be a popular baby month, we have (i think, with DHs family) 5 family birthdays this month and 6 friends!

I've not got many plans for today, though this will be my last birthday ever without a DC. So I'm making an effort and going out tonight for dinner with a big group of friends. DH had no idea what to get me as a present, so we're also going out shopping :) I think I might get a new watch.

cake I think you've got the pattern right, but I'm quite a novice knitter myself. I'm actually just in the middle of knitting arm holes in a jumper for DH and the instructions for this are similar. Fluff is a good knitter/crafter, so should be able to help when she comes along.

I like the idea of the Merino bags. Could you knit your own? Would it be cheaper to get the wool and do it? £60 a bag is quite dear...

Loopyhasanotherbean · 16/06/2012 12:14

happy birthday stacks!

re knitting your own, you'd struggle to do one like the merino kids, the merino part is like a very thin inner lining, much finer than anything you could knit by hand, with a very strong outer layer which i think might be cotton, not sure as never really looked at the label in that much detail. When we bought them they were in a bundle, 2 standard weight for £99. We've just ordered some toddler ones and they had a promotion, £10 off per bag, 0-2 or 2-4 sizing. They often have sales or discounts, and some colours are always cheaper than others, we signed up for their emails so get sent offers through. They also do lots of instore deals but they only have a London shop so we've just used them online. They now have a deal where you can send in any old sleeping bag (any brand) and get 30% off one of theirs, if you can lay your hands on any crummy ones from a charity shop etc? so £59.95 would reduce to £41.96 each, so if you have a normal baby rather than a reflux one like mine was, you could have one for wash, one for wear, and only spend £83.93 to have two that would last 2 years, all year round, with a guarantee that they'd last or they'd replace them, if you can just find 2 old bags to send into them ;) which would be cheaper than the deal we had before! (and would be cheaper than getting upteen grobags etc.

cartoonface · 16/06/2012 15:08

I feel a bit sick today and seem to have a fair old amount of saliva. Strange.

clickingtock · 16/06/2012 15:56

Happy birthday Stacks - sounds so great to be going out with your friends, and such a nice celebration as you are diffed too. Hope you feel a million dollars. I will be crocheting a sleeping bag in merino wool Stacks from this book crochet s-b: if it's a success and you would like one too, I could crochet one for you in time for autumn. You just have to order the wool and get it delivered to my house and I would post on to you once I've finished it. Although it's not the same as the cotton/merino bags on merinokids, it would have all the benefits - breathable and great at adjusting to baby's body temperature.

Face - that sounds v positive. I really do hope that it all works out for you. It's such a rollercoaster and we are all here to brook for you. Early scans aren't always reliable and I really hope that this is the case for you.

Whims have ordered my Phil n Teds, black and apple. I didn't dare order the double kit just yet - just in case - but when I do I will be after the cocoon (probably EBbay that one) once in I'm in trimester 3. Very pleased to be finally (well, almost) in possession of decent buggy.

Big wave to all. Hoping to see the grad-trio in here soon. xxxx

musicalmrs · 17/06/2012 02:12

Loopy, I'm highly sensitive (mildly allergic?) to lanolin, hence not wanting to expose DD to it - not until she's older at least.

I think it's the same with Fluffy, only it's her DH with the allergy (though I may be wrong!).

musicalmrs · 17/06/2012 02:13

Belated happy birthday Stacks! Hope you had a lovely day :-)

ScrambledSmegs · 17/06/2012 09:37

Oh, belated happy birthday from me too, Stacks!

At PIL's so can't check in too often. Big family event yesterday. Sadly I still have a bad cold - I think I need to go to the doctors again as I'm not getting over it, and I'm having difficulty breathing sometimes, and dizzy spells Hmm. With DD at this point I was glowing with health and felt wonderful, I feel cheated!

Hello everyone
Happy birthday stacks.

cakes I've read through that twice and it's making my brain hurt! I'd say it probably doesn't matter what exactly happens, as long as you end up with the right number of stitches next time it tells you how many you need. .

Exciting push chair news tock. Mine's red. God, I love it! I wonder if they have them in the US? Or if i'll get funny looks?

Question for everyone, when did you all start wearing mat clothes? I've already put on half a stone four pounds from my constant toast diet. I'm really hoping to knock that on the head though once I'm not feeling so queasy. All my normal clothes still fit, though a couple of fitted dresses are a bit tight for my liking. I just can't remember! You'd think I'd never done this before...

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 17/06/2012 14:51

loopy like musical says, lanolin causes allergies in some people, including my DH so I'm concerned that'll get passed to our DC - that said, I'd have expected the wool to be scoured to within an inch of its life and it's also then enclosed in cotton I think (?), so it would only be a problem if you're very allergic, I'd have thought. As a slight aside, merino is just a well-marketed Australian breed of sheep/wool; if you find any cheaper ones that just say ?wool? they should be just as good.

Thanks for all the bedding advice, everyone! :)

cakes you've got the instructions right, yes - I'm like whims though and usually just bodge it if it's doesn't turn out exactly Wink

Happy birthday stacks! Hope you had a great night out!

whims from about 14-16 weeks I made do with tracksuit bottoms in a larger size, and then went into mat wear at 16ish weeks iirc; my normal jeans were really cutting into my uterus when I sat down, I was so much more comfy when I changed to mat clothes.

So apparently I'm anaemic, despite eating a massive bowl of bran flakes each morning and taking pregnacare every day ? which is a relief in a way, as I've been feeling rotten! So I'm starting on the floradix as well Shock :o

whimsicalname · 17/06/2012 18:18

Right, I've finished my banker shirt to tunic. I'm really pleased with it, except somehow there's about an inch and a half difference bewteen the shoulders. I need to try it on to work out if I look wonky or see if I can get away without changing it!

Now I want to make an old table cloth of my MIL's into an apron. Can anyone (fluff) recommend a pattern?

clickingtock · 17/06/2012 22:10

Poor you Fluff - I hope the floradix kicks in straight off. Saw your FB piccy of bump - it is so cute and lovely maternity dress. I like a bit of a crochet bodge too. Metalling over crochet/knitting just isn't worth it!

Whims - I can't remember when I started to wear mat clothes but didn't really show until about 16wks last time. I agree it's important to be comfy so I might treat myself to some nice mat clothes at about 14wks this time, fx, touch wood etc etc. Hoping Smegs can direct me to her great shopping advice on this matter. How about shoulder pads for your tunic, to even it out? Grin

Smegs - grim re' your cold. Hope the GP can help. Have you ever taken any aloe vera gel drink? It might help strengthen your immune system and is fine in mid pg though perhaps not from 36wks on. Also probiotics to help digestion which will have a v + effect on immunity too?

Worked all day on massive tender today. Knacked.

xxxx

ScrambledSmegs · 17/06/2012 22:37

'Ullo. Sorry to hear you're anaemic, fluff but the floradix should do you the world of good. As a weird-but-nice side effect it gives you incredibly clear and bright whites of your eyes! I heartily recommend it.

tock thank you, I think I will give the aloe vera drink a go. I've had it before and it's great. Probiotics are a bit of a dodgy area for me sadly, I've not found any that agree with me yet which is odd as they're meant to do you good! Think the cold is actually abating now, I was banished to another room as my coughing was keeping DH & DD awake, and I actually slept quite well. Will see how am am in the morning before bothering my GP, he must be getting sick of me by now but god he is fit.

Haha at me helping with maternity clothes! I have been rubbish this time round, I was having a good laugh with a friend about how crap we look in our second pregnancies in comparison with all the glamourous first-time pregnant women in our area! I'm sure we could all get together and give our recommendations though, I could really do with the help Grin

whims can we have a photo of your lovely tunic please? I'm sure it looks great.

You've all inspired me, btw. I've dug out my cheapie unwanted gift sewing machine, I've bought a beginners guide to sewing machines and I'm considering joining a local sewing class. I am going to make DD some clothes before she's old enough to be embarrassed by them if it kills me! Grin]

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 18/06/2012 08:48

Smegs google Oliver & S - they do some gorgeous clothing patterns for kids (though t'ain't cheap!)

Whims I've never made an apron, sorry! But I'd love to see a shot of your blouse? :)

NinjaChipmunk · 18/06/2012 09:37

morning all, just popping in to say hi as I think I shall be hugely busy today and won't get back on till much much later. The estate agent is coming round to take pics at 2pm and seeing as we were still painting bits and bobs till about 10pm last night, I now have to make everything look clean and tidy!
Very sorry to hear about colds and anaemia, hope you are all feeling better soon.
Right must go and press bedding and tidy clothes and wipe bathroom and all the other crap that needs doing!

farfallarocks · 18/06/2012 14:46

Hello brookers! So excited about the cluster diff on the TTC thread, brooking no argument it works out for everyone.

whim I moved into mat stuff at 16 weeks, did not really need to but wanted to as so excited! My old skirts still fit me at 20 weeks but are not very comfy at all so have ditched them now, mat wear seems to be really hit and miss but I have had some successes with Next and Seraphine!
fluff I also get kicks with pelvic floors and the odd tightening/braxton hick as well, very weird indeedy.
Waves to everyone!

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 18/06/2012 15:00

How did it go, Ninja?

And thanks for the kind words tock, I love my bump but I'm feeling a bit huge self conscious about it too Blush
