Loopyla a few people in my Yoga class complaining of leg cramps. Teacher says is often due to a lack of calcium as baba using lots of it for growth and you end up lacking. Try to up calcium in usual way with dairy or unusual way with more green leafy stuff. I have taken to making celery and watercress soup as watercress is a great surprise calcium store! Can also be caused by dehydration (is ANYONE managing 8+ glasses of water a day?!) and someone else suggested a glass of tonic before bed (minus the GIN!) as the quinine can help with cramps. Trying to wrack my baby brain tho as in my memory quinine is not always good for health. Tho I never have issues when mixing it with gin....... Oh, the memory!

That's my input for day! Still sickenly exhausted and want to go home and still have 5 patients to see, 2 of which are likely screaming kids!! Oh please, bed............. (sad)

hufflepuffle · 07/06/2012 15:36

Oh i cannot even manage to get the emoticons right....... Sad Sad Sad

WantAnOrange · 07/06/2012 15:42

oh a gin and tonic, now I want one so bad!

hufflepuffle · 07/06/2012 16:32

Hee hee! Sorry Wantanorange ! Me too! Although right now I want a sleep more..............zzzzzzzzzzz. Nearly 5.30, really.

Kyyria · 07/06/2012 16:58

I'm having a late lunch with a friend who is up visiting the north east for the weekend. Struggling to keep my eyes open for last 30mins

Thanks huffle I've also read about quinine being dodgy so may leave that aside. I'm taking pregnacare tablets (which are so expensive they really should be able to fix any pregnancy symptoms in my opinion Shock!!) and already eat cheese, yoghurt, etc so may have to look to other calcium sources - thanks for the tip Smile

Midgetm · 07/06/2012 20:47

Thanks Shellwedance I was indeed your scan buddy. I also didn't find out the sex, trying to see if I can last the rest of the term without cracking. I am tempted but I loved it being a surprise before.

My scan was, shall we say, a mixed bag. The baby is looking healthy and perfect in every way but they also found an Amniotic Band (not attached to the baby - thank god). The sonographer could not say much about it but said it was nothing to worry about but I would need to speak to my consultant. I promised not to google but was already on the iPhone before the lift hit the ground floor and scared myself to death. Luckily my consultant is amazing and saw me within a couple of hours. Basically she doesn't think I should worry about it as if it was going to cause trouble it already would have done. It can mean nothing at all or it can cause serious deformities such as limb amputation or premature labour or restricted growth. I am really trying not to worry too much - as she is a very good consultant and wouldn't just fob me off but may have to call the fetal medicine centre and get a 3D scan to really check the band out and see how much of a risk it poses. Nothing that you can really do but wait and see what happens, they often just go but I can't help but feel paranoid about it.

Anyway thanks for checking - rather a long winded reply. Having babies is a complicated old business isn't it?

DameFlatYouLent · 07/06/2012 20:49

Loopy I drink a large glass of tonic every night before bed - on a Doc's advice - as I get horrendous muscle cramps just about anywhere in my body (neck is the worst) but most frequently in my legs. Never heard of any bad effects of quinine, and did it throughout pg1 with DS with no adverse effects. It does work, FWIW.

Too tired to catch up properly Sad Another moany moanster here.

Angelico · 07/06/2012 23:30

Hello all just in and heading to bed so just touching base.

Midget sorry to hear you had a shock in scan but glad you have a good consultant and sounds like you trust her :) If you think the scan would put your mind at ease go for it but probably not much you can do but wait. I know how scary it is when anything happens but try not to worry x Thanks

Dame the tonic thing sounds interesting but only thing is I keep reading about people drinking it when they are 40 weeks to try and induce labour and that would scare me off it a bit Confused

My section books arrived so going to have a read at them over the weekend :)

Only one more day of work thank God! x

ShellWeDance · 08/06/2012 08:44

Hey Midget, just looked up amniotic band and can see why you're worried, especially as, if I remember right, you've had a tough time already. But your consultant does sound good and fingers crossed that it all works out fine.

Have been feeling exhausted at the moment and my bump has popped a bit. Finally starting to feel properly pregnant!

londonlivvy · 08/06/2012 09:21

Midget Sorry to hear about the stressy scan and it sounds like the consultant thinks there's nothing to worry about which is great (though I do understand why you'd worry).

Loopyla I was reading in my anatomy homework last night that cramps can be caused by a lack of potassium - so maybe try some bananas?

Right. must get on with work. Hello to everyone else.

dosomethingmutley · 08/06/2012 09:47

midget sorry to hear of the amniotic band - I'm glad you've got a nice consultant and that she saw you quickly. Lots of luck for the 3D scan when you have it Thanks

Got my scan later on so am crossing my fingers that all is ok there. The bean has really stepped up the activity in the last week or so, so it should keep the sonographer on their toes if nothing else!

Brew and Biscuit to everyone feeling tired and grumpy - hope you've all got a nice weekend planned. This weather mings a bit, doesn't it?

Velo · 08/06/2012 10:55

Liege07 re: creche placement - yes managed to find one in BXL starting in April 2013 but the other places we tried had not openings until earliest Sept 2013 - so there is a bit of a shortage.

Midget sorry to read about the amniotic band - who know that pregnancy could be so fraught.

FjordMor · 08/06/2012 11:07

Gosh - catching up on here is nigh-on impossible when you've been away more than a week!

Trying to read/post more often. Have also been tired/ in a grump since the night of the Venus transit (was wondering if that had some effect as so many people complained of feeling shit the day after...).

Stuff making me grumpy:

  1. DP not waking up in time to get the bus to work for his very early morning shift, waking me and demanding I take him after only 4 hours sleep - Grrrr Angry. Now shattered but not sleepy and have a deadline on an important article today which, while I feel this braindead, ain't gonna happen!!!
  1. Getting indigestion in any position other than bolt upright, anything up to 4 hours after eating any fruit/fruit juice non-lacto-free milk products like yoghurt (didn't used to be this lactose intolerant), anything sweet like sweets/chocolate and basically anything containing vitamins and valuable nutrients or that is tasty (apart from cheese and bread). (also having sharp left lower pelvic cramping pains this AM but pretty sure it's wind/bowels as I naughtily had some pasturised but mould-cultured French cheese last night - yes, please slap my painful, incredibly weak wrists!)
  1. Haven't even shared my intended name/small selection of variations on a theme for the name/middle names, with DP yet (although he knows I want to name our girl after my grandmother but in a Norwegian-friendly form) but I caved and told my current favoured idea that I'm very taken with to my bessie here (who's Scottish) when pressed by her and received an extremely lukewarm response along the lines of 'well perhaps you could just use a name like that as a middle name' and puzzled/pained expression :(. This has upset and tbh totally gutted me. A name I like doesn't have to be everyone's choice or cup of tea (I don't share favourite names with many people) but to think people think it's awful or ugly or weird is a bit upsetting.

OK - moan over. Guess I'm in a tired grouchy mood today! Just primed for the arrival of the steppies imminently and a full weekend of plans that they'll inevitably moan and grouch about. Might purloin DP's laptop (mine's not charging - grrr) and finish my article over the w'end at my FIL's with just the bleating lambs for company and leave them all to it...

violetlights · 08/06/2012 11:09

Many thanks for all the welcomes! Hope everyone has a great weekend and all aches, pains and blues are swept away in the gales... :)

FjordMor · 08/06/2012 11:26

Getting head out of own arse & trying to at least keep up Wink...Lots of empathy to all the other grumpy girls. Biscuit & chocolate all round - and Gaviscon for me! Let's all hope the weekend brings a chirpier outlook...

Londonmrss, Hufflepuff, MrsConfusion - ah the good old belly buttons... :) Mine's still not quite out but flattening and lying a little obliquely. It used to be a total 'inny' but I was born with an 'outy' that didn't go 'in' until I was around 6 or 7 I think. If I am bloated in the evening and LO wriggles around it tends to pop out then in again which is most disconcerting. I'm still awaiting an eventual full 'pop out' or not...

Limejelly - I've been wishlisting clothes but not buying...for some reason I'm too superstitoius! Have been trying to buy the major gear though - currently negotiating with a lady here on a 2nd hand Pottery barn cot and changing table set and looking for a good condition 2nd hand Baby Bjorn bouncer and active carrier...

velo/Liege07 - glad to hear others on here are in the same boat language-wise. I've learned lots from people since I started the thread over in the bi-lingual section. I don't envy you 2 with 3 languages though! Most say the OPOL method is the one to go with - ie. One parent, one language - each speak your native language exclusively to the child, even if you speak one particular language together. Then it's just about finding the balance of exposure and persisting if the child is resistant to or lazy to use the 'minority' language at first. Difficult if neither language is the language of school or kindie though...I'm so lucky here that there are quite a few English Kindergartens/mother/baby groups.

Midget - any news/thoughts on 3D scan today? Hope you're feeling a bit less worried about it xxx

FjordMor · 08/06/2012 12:02

violetlights - Hello!!! :) and welcome!! In my crap 'not managing to catch up and read everything properly' I somehow missed you, and now Velo directed me back to my language thread (which I had been bumped off & didn't realise had fresh activity until now) I see we have a LOT in common! I'll reply to you over there but great to have a London/Norway person due at the same time around! :)

Beeblebear · 08/06/2012 14:03

Um... Sorry ladies, but going back to the topic of anal fissures....

How can you tell the difference between a fissure and internal hemeroids?

Guccigirl79 · 08/06/2012 14:53

Can't help you I'm afraid Beeble with regards to fissures it's not my area of expertese iykwim :)

I missed you too Violet welcome & forgive my jelly brain!!

I will be joining 'grumpy corner' too if I may?? Better today but am exhausted but do have the day on my own where nobody can irritate me! Had a complete melt down Wed tea time where I totally lost the plot at DP as he'd not done anything I'd asked him to throughout the afternoon & ended up doing the LOT myself Hmm then I broke when I asked for help to move the bbq all of 5ft & was met with an argument over it so I went KABOOM at him in the garden for all the neighbours to hear!! Oh the shame! Saying that I was so wild with temper I probably would've flown for them too if anyone had said anything! All was fine within 30mins after but am not proud of losing my termper to the extent I did. It did make me feel better though after having a good blow out lol Grin

Just been for a lovely lunch with my Dad & his wife for Dad's birthday & now I'm ready to go into a food induced coma,so I'll be back once I come out the other side!! :)

squidkid · 08/06/2012 14:55

Hello

I've been away in the Lake district for a week so very behind. Rainy/sunny time with my brothers and the kids, lovely and relaxed some days but was a bit tearful and anxious others and not sure why. Probably just cause I'm not sleeping... Some exercise, not loads, lots of nice food, 1 glass of wine all week when everyone else is socialising/binging is such hard work! Babysquid scared me stupid by stopping kicking entirely for a day but seems fine again now. My 4 year old nephew is completely obsessed with my baby and rubs my bump all the time and asks me loads of questions, "can the baby cry" "Is it wearing clothes?" "how does the baby wee" - so cute. I'm 24+3 now and there's no missing the bump! I'll post an up to date picture at some point...

Anyway just saying hi again and will try and catch up shortly!

DameFlatYouLent · 08/06/2012 18:04

Just a fly-by on the way to bathtime (not mine!!) to say Fjord there's nothing worse than a negative response to a name. Keep it close to your chest -once the baby has the name, nobody will bat an eyelid. The name will be so closely associated with the child so quickly that it'll be totally natural. Don't worry about it and stick to your guns.

bella2012 · 08/06/2012 18:18

hey all,

wahoo! Friday night! I have been off today, so have taken ds swimming and to soft play which I see as quite an achievement since we are still potty training! Lots of 'stop the car, I need a wee!' moments which has been fun in the rain. Then an afternoon at my Grandma's house who had another small stroke yesterday. It is heartbreakingly sad. She has lost her speech but is adamant she wont go to hospital and the doctors have said she can stay at home as long as she is not alone too much. So we are all doing shifts. Don't know what is going to happen long term. I feel so sorry for her as she is fine apart from struggling to speak and clearly resents us all invading her space all the time. Especially me, with my little whirlwind plus potty and bags of toys! Had some other really bad news this week and just feel generally exhausted and emotional. Thank god dh is in tonight so I can finally have a breather! Feel v. Guilty that I am not resting more. I am really feeling it in the bump that I have been too active. So glad to hear that I am not alone in feeling irrationally angry and upset at times too!

midget, so sorry to hear that your scan news wasn't all good. So hard not to feel worried in spite of the re-assurance you have had. I hope you are OK. feel free to worry and rant at us if you need to!

fjord I would go for your escape plan! Don't try to please those dsd's all the time- go and enjoy some peace to finish your work. And make sure you pack some lactose free goodies (if such things exist?) x

Angelico · 08/06/2012 19:55

What are we all like on the grump front?! :o I was feeling super cheerful all week, couldn't understand the sudden burst of misery... until tonight lol. And then it hit. Bah! I am definitely finding it sleep related as think the 4 day holiday (though bliss!) knocked my sleep pattern off, then had 2 hours lying in bed last night petrified thinking I was having contractions. Still not sure if they were Braxton Hicks (they were painful but only slightly) or just very regular muscle spasms Confused Anyway, knackered today, wept this evening at the thought of premature labour, then went apeshit when stoopid Chinese takeaway sent wrong stoopid meal for 2nd time in a month and had to send a replacement Angry Angry Angry

Then got a grip on myself Blush lol

And Fjord sympathy on the acid thing - I am having to take Gaviscon 3 nights out of every 7, sometimes in middle of night. Seems unconnected to any food other than Indian, otherwise it's random.

Have a good rest peeps x

Angelico · 08/06/2012 19:58

PS: pissing myself laughing as my DH is doing his Donald Duck voice down the phone to our 3 year old nephew in Dublin. He is going to be such a great dad, definitely good cop - which of course leaves me cast in the role of bad cop...

lisbethsopposite · 08/06/2012 20:54

Hi all,
I am soooo f*ing tired.

ChrissieJ I think the uterus is not sitting there in mid air, but held there with ligaments. Some people can feel pain as things are stretched and moved (For want of a better explanation) - perhaps it is this.
I swim and occasionally feel a pain where my ovaries are (I think), almost in my groin, very low. Anyway I think it is stretching and I go a little easier. It passes straight away.
Stay hanging out here - all moans are OK.
