Here we go again.......

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
fishcakefoxtrot · 24/03/2012 00:03

I mostly had one top that went up and one underneath that went down- dd was an end of summer baby though, so not warm enough to go without a vest anyway. If this works for you I would say get a few cheap longish vests that you can pull down. Then you can wear your decent tops on top without wrecking the neck.

I expect your Bean will be big enough and proficient enough at feeding to not need them by the time it actually gets warm enough to ditch the vests here up here!

fishcakefoxtrot · 24/03/2012 00:11

I meant for you to not need the underneath vest- once they know what they are doing you can just point them in the general direction of a boob and they sort themselves out, plus they as they get bigger they cover any exposed flesh. Not sure I am making any sense now. Should just go to sleep.

I had a couple of nursing vests from mothercare- they were pretty handy and about £10 each- will do a search when next on computer.

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 24/03/2012 00:29

Too can't beat these tops stretchy strap top or one with adjustable straps you can have set at longest so you can pull down and then another top over the top you can pull up.

Also for any of you that have not found this bit of MN keep an eye as codes are often posted and has saved me ££s!

Congratulations Shiny! And cakes on your scan :)

jaggythistle · 24/03/2012 08:46

Eek, you've all blethered so much already!

on phone but will try not to miss bits!

congrats on a good scan cakes :)

Hi to rat smackers, hope to see you here lots soon!

i technically got pg while bf, but it took a lot of effort for me! i got periods back at 7 or 8 months when i was back at work expressing for DS. we started ttc when he was 13mo, but it took 11 months and i had to drop his only big feed in the morning.

I've been asked about 3 times how I'll feed no 2 i think, one MW wrote a wee note saying 'bf for 1 year +' on my notes and said oh you'll be an expert then! not actually sure i can remember how to operate a newborn, but i guess i know to watch out for tongue tie after DS.

he was up loads last night all upset and feeling roasting hot. :( seems a bit better this morning, hope he's not coming down with whatever DH just had.

am v sleepy as i had to sit with him till he fell asleep, bum was numb on the floor!

will try to get on pc and catch up better later, sorry for me me me whine bit!

DreamingOfPeace · 24/03/2012 08:57

Morning all!

I feel so much better having once managed to sleep for 3 whole hours!!

Thanks so much for links biscuits and purple will check them out and get buying ASAP

In rush, sunny!!! Back later xx

musicalmrs · 24/03/2012 09:12

Hi all! Managed to catch up last night, but was too shattered to post anything...

Scream, I can't believe that advice your friend was given by the HV! Ideally, child wise, we'd like two close ish in age but not THAT close - and I'll definitely be going back on some form of contraception (whichever pill they recommend probably) as soon as possible! I'm too paranoid not to though- it would just be something else for me to worry about!

I'm also a Rightmove addict Blush. And Too - while I look at the more 'affordable' houses (still very much out of our price range normally!), DH is always looking at the ones that are worth several million! He did it a lot while we were house hunting - I had to point out that no matter how lovely they were, I didn't think any banks would lend us that much!

RE breast feeding and midwives, I was asked at my booking in appointment if I was planning on BF or not. I can imagine this would somewhat startle the less prepared newly confirmed pregnant woman, but I knew I wanted to, so all was fine! She's given me a breastfeeding DVD, which DH and I are planning on watching this weekend (making DH join in too so he can remember everything I forget!).

Cake, congratulations on the scan! :D

Purple, my bitti tuttos have arrived and are gorgeous! Can't wait to use them! :D (darn the whole having to use disposables to begin with!). Thanks for the advice on the Youtube videos too - having watched one when you suggested, and then having read the instructions on the nappies I see what you mean! Need to rewatch one to remember how to set the soakers for newborns, but will be all sorted after that! Also need to get some sort of nappy storage system, and a wet bag for when out... hmm.

Had a lovely concert last night, and flowers and cards from the ensemble I was performing with - so sweet! A lazy weekend at home I think, though trying to organise house stuff -suggesting a completion date of the end of April, so we'll see what happens..

Many thanks for all the breast feeding vest/top links etc - something I plan on investigating over the next week! I plan on going on a huge online shopping spree towards the end of the week, when I know there's a greater chance of me actually being in to receive all these parcels of lovely things Grin

Wants3 · 24/03/2012 09:14

Waiting for builder to arrive, 15 mins late! We have a train to catch in an hour so he better get here soon. We are planning to do pram, changing bag and coming home outfit today! I have also got to think about what this baby can buy his big brothers as compensation for his arrival gift! :)

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 24/03/2012 10:04

Random q - on the subject of contraception after our LOs arrive, is anyone planning to use the hormone implant (used to be implanon, now nexplanon)? I was using contraceptive patches before this pregnancy but I like the idea of moving to something more long term afterwards. Has anyone here used it in the past?

As for bfing queries, no one in the nhs has asked me if I'm planning to bf, but that might be because I haven't had any nhs mw appts (apart from booking in). My indep mw has briefly discussed it, in so far as she knows I want to give it a try and she's going to be around a lot in the days immediately after the birth to give lots of hands-on guidance. Most of what I "know" about bfing at this point is from books though, and you lovely ladies of course! I have to say this thread has taught me more about pg and new babies than any other source of info I've tried!! If only we all lived nearer to each other, this would be SO much more beneficial than NCT classes!

I hope Jaggy's DS is feeling a bit better, and definitely not coming down with anything!

Does anyone have fun plans for enjoying the sunshine today?!

jaggythistle · 24/03/2012 10:27

Thanks scream

He was happy when he woke up, but crying a lot more than usual and is a little sneezy snot fountain! He doesn't have DH's cough yet.

He's on his 2nd breakfast and we're watching cbeebies on iplayer. Will just keep up the Calpol to get his temp down and hope he has a nap soon as he skipped it yesterday and was shattered.

He is not allowed to give up his 2hr nap a week before maternity leave!!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 24/03/2012 14:10

Brooking for Jaggy's DS to a) get better and b) nap.

Scream, I was considering the implant because it would be so convenient, but not if it's going to give me unpredictably long periods. Having said that, a friend is on it and hasn't had a period in 2 years and loves it. I suppose I won't know how it'll affect me until I try. I'll have to ask the GP how it interacts with bf.

Wants, sounds like a v exciting shopping trip! Hope you get everything you want.

Purple, those H&M tops look good, especially if I can use a code to get a discount! Shall invest in some on payday, I think. Fishcake, I will try the 2 tops thing next time I'm out and about. So far I'm struggling a bit with bf discreetly. It's ok when Maia is latched on, but when I take her off to burp her or if she starts wriggling then I'm left with one boob hanging out and it's a pain having to tuck it back in, burp her, then take it out again one-handed while she encourages me vociferously. It might be easier with a top pulled up because then I can just drop it back down.

Am knackered. Slept from 12-2, and then Maia decided to cluster feed from 2 til 4. Every time I thought she was safely asleep and tried to lay her down she woke up and wailed and then went back on the boob for a good 20 minutes. She then slept until 6 and repeated the process Hmm. I have sent her and DH to the shop in the hope she falls asleep properly in the car. No sleep for me, though - some of DH's mates are coming round any minute and so are my sister and friend, so I shall have to be sociable. I hope DH gets back before his friends arrive - I've gone shy!

NinjaChipmunk · 24/03/2012 14:38

too maybe you should get yourself the mn scarf? It's massive so would be good draped around you even with a boob hanging out?!

hawthers · 24/03/2012 15:24

I find a muslin drapped over the shoulder is an all purpose nipp coverer and sick catcher.

DreamingOfPeace · 24/03/2012 17:54

I just did normal top pulled up, y y to the muslin over the shoulder!! I'd like a nice nursing vest for in hospital though. Must hit computer and on line shopping ASAP!

2 wriggly babies, and a day in the sun at the river playing with stones for us today. DD delighted, and I'm much more cheerful now babies moving bit better, but not v restful... My dad babysitting tonight for our second ever meal out together post-DD :-)

Hope your ds napped jaggy and hasn't gone downhill as they always seem to at this time...

Wants3 · 24/03/2012 20:08

Shopping done although I didn't get a changing bag but did look at lots. We got a pram that was not even on our possible list. It just ticked all the boxes and added a few extras. I also chose a lovely outfit for coming home:) it involved a lot of walking so I am shattered now.
Hope everyone enjoyed the sunshine!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 24/03/2012 20:21

This too shall pass, this too shall pass...

Purple, please can you tell me how long I should feed for on each side? Maia has been cluster feeding again and I don't know which advice to follow! One MW said to do a whole feed on one side, but sometimes she feeds for 1.5 hours and my nipples can't take it! I tend to crack after about 40 minutes and swap sides. The other MW said to swap boobs after 10 mins, but then she won't get hindmilk so quickly. Confused

Hope everything is ok with everyone else!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 24/03/2012 20:37

Can I join in with the "this too shall pass"?

I'm just SO SICK OF BEING PREGNANT!!! My back, my leg and especially my hips are just unbearable in every conceivable position, and the heartburn and constant trapped wind are ridiculously painful. The heartburn in particular is really getting me down, it's just been WEEKS of it now!! I cannot do this for another 4 weeks!!!! Plus every time this baby kicks me in my incredibly sore and sensitive ribs it just adds insult to injury. I honestly think my liver is bruised. I've had enough of this!!!!!!!

As you were.

jaggythistle · 24/03/2012 20:59

brooking for you stressed uncomfortable ladies!

DS did nap fine, woke up roasting hot though, so we've had to keep dosing him up. still sneezing spectacularly and gave us some practice for newborn poo with a super leaky nappy. had to put the poor wee guy in the bath. I've had to sit by his bed while he fell asleep again, he does look cute snuggled up though. :) he was out in about 5 minutes as well, must be v tired.

just catching up on OBEM and blubbering a bit.

hawthers · 24/03/2012 22:09

too no qualifications here but I tended to give f 30

hawthers · 24/03/2012 22:14

Oops

Mins on one side then swap. Provided latch was ok I figured that this was long enough to get to the hindmilk and gave a break to the other side. Get the laninsoh (sp?) and good luck. How old is maia now? Am sure it settles down after a couple of weeks. Stick with it - will be on later if you need a rant :)

DreamingOfPeace · 24/03/2012 22:44

scream, can you not take ranitidine for the heartburn? It's not working so well for me now, but that's been more since twin 2 went to transverse then breech. My consultant is adamant its fine in pregnancy, can take 150mg 2x daily. Get thee to a doctor!! Or phone appointment and request?? I second 'this too shall pass' and am desperate to not be pregnant and be more comfortable- yes, after surgery, I'll still have no leg/ rib pain, pelvic pain that I'm lucky to have got away with til now, heartburn, varicose veins etc etc etc. Gah. We'll get there though.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 24/03/2012 22:55

I might try the doctor next week Dream, the surgery do run a phone session. I have plenty of Zantac at home so I don't even need a prescription, I just need my GP to sign off on it because the internet advice is all no-no-no for ranitidine. Considering I'm already (occasionally) taking codeine for my hip pain, and that's another big no-no generally speaking, I'm not sure how much more I can throw at this baby! :(

I never imagined it could get so much worse though. After 12 weeks of being trapped at home I would have thought the last 4 (or so!) weeks would be a doddle. I was so wrong! Just need it to be over now.

This too shall pass...

p.s. I know it's been harder for you carrying twins and looking after a toddler. Have I mentioned that you're my hero? Grin

p.p.s. I do hope Jaggy's DS feels better soon, poor little guy.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 24/03/2012 23:03

By the way Dream I don't mean to suggest I think your doc is wrong! I think a lot of drugs just aren't tested for pregnancy and therefore docs are rightly cautious and only prescribe them when necessary and in safe doses. So I'm sure your prescription is safe! I just want to make sure I speak to a doc as well before taking it, especially as I'm already taking the codeine which has known bad side effects for the baby :(

pommedechocolat · 25/03/2012 00:00

Dd1 is 2. She has had her family party. Now just the toddler one to go Monday. Dh is being mildly irritating but getting it full throttle from me as so tired!

DreamingOfPeace · 25/03/2012 09:29

scream, I held off on the ranitidine for ages. The consultant, and a registrar who seemed very clued up on a different appointment both told me it is used very extensively in pregnancy though no-one will test officially and therefore license it for pg. Both said same dose. No side effects for baby/babies. My dh wasn't sure and said he doesn't prescribe it as a gp and the consultant totally poo-poohed him!! He he. I'm much more mobile than you (thank goodness or I don't know what I'd do with DD) & in less pain I'm sure, just vast and suffering now and fed up!

Oh pomme.... The tiredness.... And i think I'm tired now!!! But well done you, you have survived a family party, and i commend your bravery having a toddler one tomorrow. I'm surprised dh still tolerating me and I've not even had them yet... You're doing so well, one day you'll get some sleep. xxx
