cupcake the peeing in a pot is getting rather tricky now Blush I have that joy again on Thursday...lovely! Hope you get the news you're hoping for with the MW

Catsycat · 01/05/2012 12:37

cocoa, I have a widgey, which is also quite good for putting round the baby when she starts to sit up. If you do get one, you might want to buy a spare cover in case of sick / boob explosions...

Blue glad you had a good day and no heartburn / cramps. Maybe they are going away for good like mine (hopefully) did?

cupcake hope the midwife goes well. Wonder who will pop next???

Hospital bag is now packed. I have been really anally retentive organized, and packed things in little labelled pouches so the mws / DH can find the things they need when I am incapacitated by the ELCS. Last time, my bag looked like it had been burgled by the time I could move enough to look in there myself! Must remember to put in a couple of hats (for the baby, not me), as they are still drying at the moment!

Lunch now, then must stop putting off the eBaying!!!

Harecare · 01/05/2012 12:47

May is here and I really wanted an April baby - Boooo! Sorry, already have a May one. It is now too late to have the baby and make the wedding on Saturday so all bouncing/walking/clary sage etc is off! Am hitting reverse and remembering that my calculations gave May 2nd, so really I'm not overdue yet.
Yorky - have you got a name yet?
maternity pillow - I'd recommend getting one to feed as ordinary cushions can slip a bit, whereas a V shaped one won't.
Up at 3am this morning, definitely time for an afternoon nap now.

Newtothisstuff · 01/05/2012 13:30

Happy 1st of May everyone :-)

Hope everyone's got their bags packed its going to be a busy month haha

Had the midwife yesterday, babies head is now 2/5th engaged which she says is fully engaged. Eeeeek. Had my regular trip to the hospital this morning for the tracing doing which for once went well, she was playing nicely for one. Also had one almighty show this morning, although the midwife seems to think there will be more to come
My plan is to sit with my legs in the air until my section on the 15th i don't feel ready yet haha I did just make DH absolutely blitz the house, change the beds and clean the bathrooms just in case she decides to make an appearance early !

I'm so excited to see who is going to pop next.. We should take bets hahaha

Hope you are all putting your feet up and getting your last bit of rest in. Grin

SirCharles · 01/05/2012 16:20

Afternoon & happy May day!
So excited by everyone's news. Congrats on the babies & I hope those of you who are quiet are doing ok.
Still unpacking here & tbh am soooo bored of it.
37+3 now & hoping Baby is exactly on time! Still need to buy baby bedding (any recommendations?) & finish sorting new flat. Need a cleaner & ironing lady to help me......
Ankles = cankles. When will they deflate??
Had to take my rings off at the weekend due to swollen fingers Sad. Shame as DH has bought me an eternity ring the same size as my wedding & engagement rings but I just cannot get it on Blush. I hope my fingers deflate quick so I can wear the beautiful ring soon.

Haha, I meant widgey breastfeeding pillow.. have no idea where wiggle came from!

Well I cried in the midwife's office BlushBlush when she palpated she said 'well it's not in an optimal position' & I just started crying..had no idea I was going to! Think she was a bit embarrassed cos she then started saying oh but a back to back baby is much more likely to turn in the pushing stage with a second baby etc.. I just so desperately want this birth to be better than ds's.. must must must just live on my birthing ball from now on!
She offered a sweep late next wk & said she'd do them every couple of days then, so think I'll go for it.

Sorry to whinge..!

Yorky · 01/05/2012 16:41

Sorry all, DD2 is Pippa :) or Philippa Kate on Sundays. Her older siblings haven't asked me to put her back yet, but dreading DH going back to work - but will deal with that when we get there. I picked DS1 up from school all by myself today and left DH at home with the 3 little ones!

won't update the list yet as it makes the thread really long, but if someone could remember next time we have a new hatchling to add :)

Who was asking about breathing? My main thing was 'blowing contractions away' - I leant forwards over the settee with each one and blew out slowly and steadily, not sure it made much difference but its what I did. You'll find your own pattern, just to give you something to focus on

Good luck for the wedding Harecare, DS2 was due about 3 days after the last wedding I went to and DH left me with 2 toddlers and went to help his DB set up the fireworks display most of the afternoon and I knew pretty much no-one there and was knackered [grrr], hope you have more fun

Had a doula with DS2 and really regret not asking her how dilated she thought I was by her non-invasive techniques, before letting MW do her internal so they could compare!

LittleSarah · 01/05/2012 17:04

Woo hoo for May!

New - A show! Do you think you'll make it to the 15th? I know it is different but everyone but after my show with dd I think it was days not weeks before labour began.

cupcake - Midwives must see crying women all the time but some probably cope with it better than others! Smile She is right though, baby could shift at any time. Have you looked at the spinning babies site?

bluecrane - Re breathing techniques there are loads to try in a book called Birthing from Within, a lot you try while holding an ice cube. One is spiraling, imagining your breath spiraling away from you (kind of like cupcake's glow I think)... there is general visualisation (where ever seems a nice place)... perhaps look up non focused awareness as that would be too complicated to explain here. I found though just deep, slow breathing worked best for me. Affirmations are sometimes good for some people while breathing, so you are thinking/saying certain things... can be about growing or expanding (making room for baby to be born and so on), strength, I can do this, I am strong.. all sorts. One funny one I read was 'I'm getting huge'!

mythical · 01/05/2012 18:16

Hello everyone :) 2 days till due date! :o :o
Went to the cinema today to see Avengers with dh and really enjoyed it! Waddling around town - not so much as I seem to be having bad round ligament pain and the side of my bump gets really painful when I walk!
I've got swimming planned for 40+1 and a birthday party BBQ at 40+3. Now I hope I won't get that far but having something to look forward to helps keep my mind off things :)
Have downloaded about 5 new books onto my kindle so that should keep me busy for a while!
I have pâté in the fridge and I really want some :( come on baby!!

Newtothisstuff · 01/05/2012 18:40

Haha funny you should say that mythical I said to my DH in Tesco yesterday that when I get out of hospital I want pâté on toast washed down with a nice cold koppaberg haha.. Hope things get moving soon
Come on baby mythical

LittleSarah · 01/05/2012 18:49

Ooh same here about the pate! I said to my sister I want her to bring down pate and prawns, she works next to great deli and fishmonger, when baby comes! My mum is on the champagne!

Newtothisstuff · 01/05/2012 18:52

I got married at the end of Sept I already knew I was pregnant so we saved all the champagne we got given ! I've threatened to take it to the hospital but DH doesn't seem too keen Smile

myweeangel · 01/05/2012 19:05

mythical - pate - meee tooooo! And beer! Was always a wine girl but just can't wait for a nice cold bottle of Bud... ooh, I'm salivating...
Also have downloaded books onto kindle. Any recommendations? I read SJ Watson's "Before I Go To Sleep" in a few hours, liked the sinister twists in it but felt it was a little forgettable. Nick Spalding's "Love From Both Sides" was even shorter, probably equally forgettable but definitely good for this of pregnancy - laugh out loud funny and an easy read.
newtothisstuff - you can send your DH's share of champagne to me, my DH doesn't like it either and I would be only too happy to help. :) Not sure I'd trust myself, considering how shamefully low my tolerance level will be!!!
Still nothing here, everything has come to a grinding halt, praying second sweep on Friday kick starts things.

LimeFlower · 01/05/2012 20:06

Hello everybody:)

Happy and healthy May babies and maybe a couple of June ones :)

cupcake every one of us is entitled to have a bit of a whinge

newtothis tell me about it-plate of smoked salmon, heap of big prawns, game pate, creamy brie and the other smelly cheeses washed down with some ice cold local ale ...daydreaming

suitcase not packed yet as I nagged asked my DH for over 2 weeks to take it down from the loft-told him he'll be in charge of packing everything when it's time to go.

SirCharles baby goes to the moses basket first and then to a cot-got some fitted bedheets for mb and cellular blankets off ebay-2nd hand but very good condition.Got some new fitted sheets of amazon-about £6 for a pair and lovely colours-lime green and jaffa orange :)

Harecare I'm not sorry for your dissapointment sticks tongue out

LimeFlower · 01/05/2012 20:14

mythical i got 4 books yesterday at charity shop but traditional paperback.

BlueCrane have you tried drinking milk? at the peak of my heartburn i was going through 4 pint bottle of milk everyday-lots of toilet visit but it helped.

Bodeccia are you going to finish this book before the baby arrives?

wriggle congratulations on your new arrival, how did i missed it Blush

i got an obsession with newborns-looking at pictures of them on the net and watching loads of videos on youtube-just can't wait to cuddle mine :)

Newtothisstuff · 01/05/2012 20:15

Sircharles... I got some cot and Moses basket sheets from Tesco Direct they were so cheap. Like £3 for a pair and they are lovely and soft, I got my bedding off eBay, it's brand new and matches the Moses basket the in laws bought me but for half the cost Grin

mythical · 01/05/2012 20:15

If anyone needs a travel changing mat I found this link down to £3 from £11
Free home delivery too. Search amazon for better pics

Bodeccia · 01/05/2012 21:03

Evening all

I can't believe May is here either!

Congratulations wriggle! Lovely name :)

We've all suddenly got into preparation mode Grin! FWIW, I got my changing mat (and bag, although swore I'd try and avoid getting things that aren't completely vital) from a woman who makes them herself and sells them on eBay. Not particularly cheap, but pretty cute and original. I got the Russian doll one.

For practically everything, I've been hawking eBay like a fiend and looking at gumtree. I love that so much can be delivered nowadays. Cheap stuff on the internet + delivery to your home = double win!! Grin

Those of you on the milk, OMG, I've been drinking Neskwick chocolate milk EVERYDAY for about 3 months. In fact, ever since I had my GTT at 27 weeks (blimey that seems like a lifetime ago). I have been obsessing wondering how I'm going to get my Neskwick during labour - do I make it up before we go to the hospital? Do I buy ready made stuff (not exactly the same thing, does that matter?)? How do I keep it cold...? Its been great for heartburn, and I feel like milk is nutritious, better than cordial. "Step away from the yellow box, Bodeccia! Step away"

(Loving the conversation about food!) Actually, I've been eating brie but it has been the President one when it was on offer from the supermarket. It is made with pasteurised milk rather than unpasteurised.

new: it could be you next with your show. From what I understand the baby can bob in and out of /5 until it is properly ready to come. I've been sitting at 4/5 for about 2 weeks now, and nothing.

sircharles: I took my rings off about a month ago, the first time I took my wedding ring off since DH and I got married 9 years ago :( I just couldn't bear it (or any of my other rings) on my hand any more. I haven't tried putting them back on again, I think I'll wait until LO arrives.

lime: I've mentioned a certain obsession I seem to have developed around The Game of Thrones (thank you for not judging me...). So I've got the first three stories, and they're in 4 books. Proper tomes. And they're so easy to read and I'm loving them. I'm trying to get to the end of the second book before the end of the second series finishes on TV.

For other first time mums: OMG YouTube! I've been learning how to swaddle a baby, breastfeed, hold a newborn, put a nappy on etc! I even found how to put up and down our second hand buggy (the thing was driving me crazy!). I haven't had the courage to look for an actual birth, but I bet there's one there... If only they had YouTube on Call the Midwife...

Sleep well everyone :)

BlueCrane · 01/05/2012 21:24

Oooh...pâté...yummy...and Brie too...now that's something positive to focus on to get through the next few weeks!! Whoever mentioned pain in the side of your bump I am so with you that...soooo sore with all the kicks I'm getting there!

I also seem to have developed a bit of an addiction to nesquick as can't bear to drink milk on its own so it's my best option...it is helping a bit with the heartburn but I've found that even a glass of water in the middle of the night can set off the acid...grumble, grumble! I do think that stress might be a factor with the heartburn as well though as I was quite chilled yesterday and it was fine whereas today got myself worked up about some stuff and it has been bad again all afternoon...so will keep a close eye on it I think!

Wondering whether the you tube videos might be a good idea though definitely not any birth ones also need t get n amazon and get my kindle ordered...very excited to get it though also have a stash of second hand books to work through as well.

HeidiHole · 01/05/2012 21:50

Yay happy May everyone! So excited this morning at the thought that this was OUR month apart from any babies that slip into June

I'm 38 weeks today and not too fed up yet... waiting for it all to change! I'm tired, and I waddle and I have cankles and my engagement ring doesn't fit (wedding ring does though!) but I'm still not at the stage where i'm "wishing" for labour to start... it just sounds so sore ouch ouch ouch...

My biggest bug bear is weeing! Every bloody hour it feels like, bladder must be squished to the size of a polo mint!

bodeccia ooh I'll have to look on youtube thats a good idea!

So exciting that some babies have come already, and everyone has picked such gorgeous names! Can we have some photos to tide us over while we wait?

Now imagining Pate washed down with nesquick... haha but yes that would be nice. Might buy some nesquick tomorrow actually not had it in ages and its lovely! no heartburn just greedy

new oooh a show, I wonder if you'll go before the 15th? Normally a show means things are reasonably close doesn't it?

I'm not engaged at all, babies head is still totally free which I think is unusual for #1 at 38 weeks isn't it? I think thats why i'm not overly uncomfortable. people say when the head drops its like having a melon between your legs and can get really hard to move around easily. I'm waddling enough without that :)

I've bought a feeding pillow but can't really review it as obviously not tried it yet! However I'm one of those first time mugs mums who got excited and bought the whole shop. We have all the stuff that the experienced mums scoff at... nappy bins and a top and tail bowl, and special baby towels instead of just any old towel from the airing cupboard! But when you have 9 months to wait you're going to shop aren't you?!

So excited to see who gives us the next baby!

Wrigglebum · 01/05/2012 22:02

We're home! Got back about an hour ago, other baby in my room was a right screamer so enjoying the peace and quiet! Adam didn't settle in his crib so feeding him lying down in bed now. He had his moderate tongue tie snipped today and already feeding is a bit better. I can feel my milk is starting to come in a bit already as very tingly and boobs are growing a bit! Ds1 will be so chuffed to see us in the morning!

oltob · 01/05/2012 22:41

Congratulations wrigglebum, wonderful news and home & settled so quickly.
I'm in for the induction first thing in the morning, been quite teary today, hormones all over the shop and cuddling DD far too much. Hopefully by this time tomorrow I'll be cuddling her little brother.
Good luck everyone, will likely catch up on the thread fully tomorrow whilst waiting for things to happen. Am far behind and must do final bag packing now. Smile

LittleSarah · 01/05/2012 22:44

Bodeccia - I read the Game of Thrones (first four I think) a few years back, really good. Problem is so much happens I'm not actually sure where I am in the series, I've been wanting to get back into but don't know where to start. Really want to watch the series on DVD.

On Youtube as part of my doula course they say you should watch the breast crawl. Shows baby finding their way to the breast for first feed!

Heidi - You can never be sure with babies/engagement/positioning and so on I think. Apparently in later pregnancies babies usually don't engage until just before labour but my baby has been at 4/5 palpable since 36 weeks. I get the watermelon thing, with ds I felt like that only on the evening before I went into labour. With dd I felt nothing at all until my waters broke.

wriggle - Glad to hear you are home, fab to see ds! Hope ds2 continues to feed well...

LimeFlower · 01/05/2012 23:32

Heidi i'm on the other side with the bladder-amazed that i have such capacity Confused
i've got this heaviness for a while but apparently it is not engaged yet(well it wasn't on Friday)

wriggle hope Adam is not too vocal-lovely name btw, very classy

oltob goodluck, fingers crossed for tomorrow :)

LittleSarah i watched the baby crawl video and felt so sorry for the wee one working it's way so hard to get some milk-they are so helpless with this dstant look...

Bodeccia · 02/05/2012 10:56

So here's a question:

How do I discourage my mother from giving me all these (quite ugly) baby wall hangings that my great grandmother made? I remember being scared of them as a child, and she's currently out getting them dry cleaned. Never mind that the material itself is all perished and stained and any elastic (yes, elastic) has withered.

A complication: DH and I are temporarily living with my mother. When we move out, I'll be happy to say "you can put these in the baby room in YOUR house".

Maybe I should take them and put them in the back of a cupboard.
