Thanks *Mikocat" for the new name.

cupcake that's my big name dilemma...I love some of the Top 10 or Top 20 names at the moment but I was one of the 5 in a class when I was at school and really didn't like it so would love to avoid that if possible! Just wish everyone didn't like the same names as me thus effectively limiting my choice!

Wondering whether I should've just avoided having any lunch as it seems to have given beany renewed energy for wriggling and kicking me now that I'm back at my desk...I on the otherhand feel both as though I could eat lunch all over again (well, definitely the sweet bits!) and/or that a nice nap would go down quite well at the moment!

Thankfully my leg seems to have stopped hurting following the cramp this morning and I shall be avoiding all 'foot stretching' from now on...

One of the ladies at work has just commented that she thinks I'll be early...I do find it very odd how people can have such opinions merely based on the shape of bump! I'd love to be a bit early (38-39weeks) but don't want to set my hopes on that as it'll be a long wait to 42 if I go overdue...

Newtothisstuff · 26/04/2012 16:20

Hey everyone Grin
Just for back from the growth scan and seeing the consultant.
I'm so relieved, seems eating most of my Dd's Easter eggs has paid off, she's caught up now and is back on track, he said she's on the small side of normal, that's good enough for me.
C section booked for the 15th Grin

LittleSarah · 26/04/2012 20:05

New - Woo hoo, fantastic news! And a delivery date for the diary!

Well I did manage a nap as after lying on my bed for a bit ds joined me and slept for about two hours. Of course didn't get much done, essay put off til tomorrow, but pre baby maternity leave is about resting isn't it? If you can fit it in!

bluecrane - Amazing what other folk can 'feel' about your pregnancy... Still last time with ds I had no feelings whatsoever and everyone else felt he'd be a boy and they were right. This time I have a feeling he'll be early but that's probably just because the other two were (by a day or four), my mum however also feels the early vibe. Who knows!

Harecare · 26/04/2012 20:46

We only have one name and it's rather date dependent! My first 2 DDs have good old fashioned names that although simple and known don't feature on any baby lists - except one for trendy names the other day thanks to blimmin Beyonce. I was rather cross and I really hope it doesn't become popular.
Sooo tired. Time for bath and bed.
I am slightly worried about being in labour with a birthing partner I am not talking to. I don't know whether I will end up shouting at him, ignoring him and just being passive aggressive or being all overcome and loving when I don't think he deserves to be loved just now. I guess I'll just have to focus on the baby and grip him super painful tight when the time comes.
newtothis - I ate most of DDs' Easter eggs too, I consider myself to have done them a favour! It's getting harder with DD1 as she is now 4 to eat them without her realising, but I am very cunning!

luckynumber11 · 27/04/2012 00:20

Great news new, and also good you now have a definite date to work towards. I would love to know my birth date in advance! (was lucky to have that with dd1, and it saves some of the anxiety ive got now about how long I've got to prepare, should I still be working next week etc!)
Hi cupcake, yes with our girls name, ideally we will go for another ending in "a" - just feel it would make sense and "belong" with the other girls. Although there are a couple on our shortlist of 6 which don't fall into that category. Also blue, it was useful to hear how you felt having a name that was really popular in class. Of our 6 names, 3 are in the top 10 or 20, while 3 are in the more top 200-ish range. I just can't decide if it matters whether you end up being one of 3 in the class, I would prefer it not to be like that, but then I think surely you should just go for the name you like best? But having not experienced it personally it was really good to hear your perspective.
Actually, we may have had a brainwave tonight... Dh came up with a name that neither of us had ever thought of before, we both like it, and it does have a connection with our DD's names. So if I still like it after I've lived with it for a few days we might have found an out-of-the blue winner!

luckynumber11 · 27/04/2012 00:34

Hi harecare too. I also meant to say I can understand your concerns abou how you will react to DP while you're in labour. It's a difficult one for you isn't it? Hopefully, going through labour will give you the strength to just be yourself and be really honest about your feelings, all niceties and inhibitions will be shed. Seeing what you're going through and the amazing gift at the end of it might also give your DP some kind of reality check, could it be a turning point?

Beeboles · 27/04/2012 07:33

Hello all, sorry not posted for a while but i have been reading all posts to keep up with you all. Hope all the new babies and their mums are doing well Smile
Bit of a spanner in the works here as ds1 (5) broke his leg last sunday and is in a full leg cast. It's not as bad as it could have been, he needs the cast on for 3 weeks and then they will see how it's healing. He can not weight bear on it at all for 3 weeks and i shouldn't be lifting him at all, but i have to a bit. DH is self employed so took Monday off and then had to go back to work. SadI am managing though.
I am 38 wks tomorrow and feeling crappy, but i did sleep quite well last night. The baby was growing fine last appointment, so at the moment all seems well there. I have strep b and need AB before birth, but that's another story.
My DH may have to stay with ds1/ds2 when i go in to hospital due to the care situation of ds1. I would be sad for him if he missed the birth but i have got my head round it now and i'm o.k with it. Sorry to be all about me. Take care all.

LittleSarah · 27/04/2012 10:29

Hello again beeboles! Poor ds, and poor you having to change your birth expectations at such short notice. Will you have someone else with you? I know how you mean about the feeling crappy although I am feeling rather more energetic today than yesterday.

Trying to do my doula essay now, it is a bit of struggle to be honest. Will keep trying.

Harecare - So difficult for you! I don't know how I'd cope. Will it just be you and DP? It also probably depends on how you labour. For me I go into labour bubble and to be honest I take little notice of anyone there but if you are more sensitive to those around you it could have more of an affect....

Bodeccia · 27/04/2012 11:06

Morning ladies

Leg cramps: I've had them a couple of times too (always in the middle of the night - thanks for that ...), and I've never really understood why you get them. Whenever I ask people, they say something about salt.

Yorky · 27/04/2012 11:54

Hello again ladies and new babies, its getting busy here now :D

Harecare - what a difficult position, my gut feeling in your situation would be to find yourself another birth partner, you need someone who can be there for what you need and put you first and I wouldn't trust your DH to do that. You don't need to tell him not to be there, but I thinkk a 2nd partner would be a good plan as I wouldn't want to have to trust someone I resented iyswim? Hope everything goes well for you anyway.

Cramps - interesting how many people don't like bananas Grin another one here, my Dad's theory was something about salt, his comments were always along the lines of more salt on your chips, or bizarrely, ' a glass of milk before you go to bed.' Don't know if it'll help but might be worth a try, and has to be better than forcing yourself to eat bananas!

Baby names - so impressed with those of you with shortlists, DD still a nameless wonder, sat down with DH last night (who is taking grumpy tired arseness to olympic heights atm) and read every name on the MN alphabetic name suggester thing and found a few possibles but he's wanting to something to jump off the page and hit him - which obviously none of them did :(
Just out of interest, has anyone any opinions on either Philippa or Kate? DDs middle name is Kate after my great aunt but wondered if calling her Pippa was too much middleton groupie-ness?

cupcakefairy · 27/04/2012 12:28

yorky we want a birth story!! Grin hope u find a name u love soon. Don't think pippa would make u too groupie, it's not like your dd1's first name is Kate.

bodeccia I had a really restless night with loads of cramps/tightenings & wondered if it was it too.. I need a slap I think, sure I'll be going another 4 wks yet!!

beeboles poor ds & what terrible timing :( hope it's not too stressful to manage.

I feel like crap today, have already cried about 3 times over nothing think I'm just way overtired & I feel awful losing my patience with ds all the time :( dh is being particularly crap at the mo too & doesn't seem to get that I'm nearly 38 wks pregnant & exhausted.. /rant over, sorry.

LittleSarah · 27/04/2012 13:40

Oh yes birth story please! And how is dd feeding and stuff? All the baby news from any new mum who is feeling energetic enough!

cupcake - I had a bit of a rough day yesterday, cried over some comments over my revving too much from nice but annoying gent ('did you just get the car'? NO!) when I was struggling to get out of a space! Sorry to hear you are feeling rubbish and dh not being the best, it is so hard when you are heavily pregnant. I am really keen for dh to sort this cupboard out, got more stuff to put in it and can't go in til hes sorts. Not really a job for pregnant wife. Anyway he is going out on a work day out (lunch then pub then who knows, hopefully home) tomorrow so he will be away all day. He says he will do Sunday but if he is hungover.... Not a big thing but just so want to get things sorted and there is more that needs done, garden is a mess (things need to go to dump, massive bits of rock he dug out when tiling fireplace) plus our old car which we need to sell won't start... he says he'll sort that too this weekend. Hmmmm. Anyway, going on a little now, sorry!

Yorky - I agree that Pippa is totally fine, esp as Kate only a middle name. Not great here with names but suppose we do have a very short short list.

How are people doing with clumsiness? I stabbed myself in the hand last night (not too deeply luckily) and this morning walked into sharp end of garden fork and now foot is really sore although of course barely looks scratched. Honestly, it's a wonder I am still mobile.

cupcakefairy · 27/04/2012 14:22

sarah I've been ridiculously clumsy too, keep doing stuff like spilling couscous all over the kitchen! So annoying cos I'm normally such a careful person!
Totally get you crying over the driving comment I would too! Hope your dh does pull his finger out this weekend! I just think mine doesn't realise how imminent the birth is & how hard it is dealing with an almost-2 year old in this stage of pregnancy.. but should stop moaning, I know others have it way harder!

Newtothisstuff · 27/04/2012 15:17

I'm with you all on the crying thing, I cried for an hour the other day because the dog chewed my flip flop, I think my 5 year old thought id gone crazy, she told me to be brave and offered to go get me a teddy haha !! Seems to have passed now thank goodness haha

I can't wait to see who has the next baby, it's all getting really exciting Grin

Bodeccia · 27/04/2012 18:28

I had my last appointment with the MW today before my EDD. LO's head is "well and truly down" which is good as she was still breech at 36 weeks. I have a sweep booked two weeks today (I'll be 40+6) if buba hasn't turned up beforehand. I hope she turns up sooner rather than later. Talking about induction seems a little premature to me at the moment.

Raspberry leaf tablets: check
Pineapple: check (even though it is tinned. I got a fresh one but it isn't ripe. And you need to eat loads of them, right? I'm already confusing contractions with wind so this might not be the most effective way of getting things going).

I would have a hot curry if I could face eating anything. I would do rude things to DH if I didn't feel so constricted.

DH is on a double shift tomorrow, and I'm paranoid that things might start kicking off as soon as he goes. I've been going through what I would do if things started. We live in the country and we have one car.

I think we might have the name sorted. We had a short list of about 4, DH is French so it has to be something that passes in both languages. We're going to wait until we meet her but we both keep talking about the same name first.

LittleSarah · 27/04/2012 20:36

Well the garden fork injury has worsened. Felt a bit sore this morning but now it is red and swollen and can barely walk. So annoyed about the whole thing. On the plus side I finished dd's wee shrug cardi and another hat for new baby so all the things I really wanted to knit pre baby are done. Anything else I do now is a bonus.

Glad to hear I am not the only clumsy and over emotional one on the thread Wink. Gutted now that dh is away tomorrow what with foot the way it is but it is his last hoorah before baby so will just muddle through!

Bodeccia · 28/04/2012 09:02

Hmm LittleSarah I don't like the sound of your foot. I would go down to the doc's just in case. Did you actually pierce it or do you think it is just bruised? I hope it is feeling better this morning. At the very least put your feet up and have a cup of tea :)

Cheers! Brew

BlueCrane · 28/04/2012 09:51

Morning all! Well...I am now on maternity leave - woohoo!!! Work did a nice presentation and I got a bag of lovely gifts so after my panic last week they managed to pull it off! Hasn't really sunk in yet TBH...maybe next week? I have a huge list of stuff to crack on with now though!!

lucky re. the popular name thing it was always a bit irritating TBH and lasted right through primary and secondary school. After that I happened to predominantly be doing more male dominated subjects so was only one of a couple of females in my class and it became less of an issue. I chatted to my Dad about it the other day though and they were utterly clueless it was so popular when they chose it and are still happy with the choice even though it proved to be the most popular girls name of the early 80's!! A good friend has just chosen the current no.1 boys name for their new LO though and my brother did the same last year (due to a family link with the name) so I think you just need to go with what you love/feel you can happily say to future DC - this is why we chose it rather than 'ooh it was no.1 and we thought it was cute' IYSWIM?!

yorky I love the name Pippa...though DH has vetoed it (not sure why) and it's my cousin's name too. Don't think it would be too groupie as not many people will remember that DD1's middle name is Kate. Hope you get some name progress soon!

Thankfully I haven't had any more cramps since the evil one the other day but am very consciously being careful when I stretch my legs out in bed - there is a definite fear of setting it off again! I'm also Shock at the number of people who don't like bananas! I have got a bit better with them, as previously could barely be in the same room if someone was eating one but can at least now cook with them to make banana muffins for DH so will hopefully manage to feed them to my DC at some point - though will certainly not be doing the 'one spoon for you, one for Mummy thing' if they're not keen either!!!

new love the crying over your flipflop thing and your DD being so cute in her response!! I had a total meltdown in the middle of Thursday night as I couldn't sleep, couldn't get comfortable, everything hurt etc etc and DH was just asleep and couldn't wake up properly to talk to me Blush and then panicked when I said I was in pain etc etc. I think he may now have realised that an overtired, hormonal, nearly 36 week pregnant lady just needs a hug and some reassurance sometimes!!

Hope you all have a good day and littlesarah hope your foot better v soon!

LittleSarah · 28/04/2012 10:18

Well I really went for it on the whole hormonal crying pregnant woman today! Dh decided he will stay over in town tonight, I thought he might but was hoping not, rather than get bus home late. Anyway just felt all sorry for myself and abandoned and know the longer he stays out the more hungover he'll be and the less will get done tomorrow! Anyway I got all 'I'm pregnant and my foot is sore and I can't go out drinking now or for bloomin' months and now you blah blah blah....' Sob sob sob.

It's at time like this I feel sad that I live in a village away from all my family and most of my friends so nobody can just pop down for an hour to keep me company or help with ds for a bit.

Anyway, he has promised to be back by 11am (Bus takes 1.5hr so that is pretty good if he manages) and he that will do the chores he has promised. I will take him at his word I think and assume the best... for now... Wink

Just hope labour doesn't start!

Anyway I am off to local village coffee morning with ds and then I think we will nip to shops in local town. Probably shouldn't, foot still pretty sore and red, but I don't want us to be trapped in the house all day and need to get some bits.

Hope everyone else's Saturday has started better than mine!

dreamingofanallotment · 28/04/2012 11:38

It's obviously the week for hormonal pregnant woman meltdowns! I've come down with a stinking cold - so in addition to not being able to get comfy in bed, and having horrible heartburn etc, I now can't breathe, aaaargh! So DH has been subject to many 'it's not fair, I feel so rubbish, waah waah waah' outbursts!
Hope your foot is feeling better soon LittleSarah - and hope this eve goes quickly for you! My DH was out on Thurs eve and as I was feeling so rubbish I didn't leave the house all day - the only person I saw during the day was the postman...oh dear!
Wahey for maternity leave BlueCrane!

myweeangel · 28/04/2012 11:56

Hi ladies,
Had sweep yesterday (at 38+3) and expected nothing as it was so early. Felt crampy and had bit of back pain yesterday afternoon and little bit of pink discharge. Watched a film with DH last night, fell asleep 10 mins in but kept waking up with strong Braxton Hicks. Slept very well last night (only woke for loo and straight back to sleep). This morning think I've lost mucous plug - brownish, snotty blob - sorry, TMI! Feel like I want a hot water bottle, but haven't had any contractions yet.
Hoping but not holding breath! Was 9 days late with DD so still can't imagine going early this time. Should go pack bag...

LittleSarah · 28/04/2012 12:27

Back from my shopping already. Went to Next and spent rather too much buying dd a big sister present (very sweet outfit) plus getting ds some new trainers. Also decided to treat myself to some M&S food so feel a bit naughty but happy with my purchases!

Feel decidedly nauseous though!

myweeangel - oooh having a show a fairly good sign no? I mean it might not mean labour imminent but wouldn't have thought you have more than a week to wait now and could be much sooner!

Oh yes bluecrane - fantastic about maternity and decent presents! As I expected I got nothing but a couple of good luck emails in response to my maternity handover one. In fact one of my two main bosses didn't even bother to wish me luck or anything. Not surprised from her but thought she could have taken two minutes out to respond in some way! Still I am off now, and I have lots of M&S goodies to scoff so I am just fine!

LittleSarah · 28/04/2012 12:33

dreaming - Always nice to know you are not alone! Hope your cold passes soon. I cried so much this morning I was completely blocked up...

Newtothisstuff · 28/04/2012 13:05

Littlesarah.... My DH is working all day today at the Army v Navy in London and won't be back till around 10/11 I'm the same as you, don't really have anyone close by etc soooo bored DD1 is with her dad this weekend too so I'm home alone

Unpacked the Moses basket and things last night got a bit freaked out by it haha scary to think that in 2 weeks there will be a baby in it

Went for another tracing this morning m, very slow movements again but I'm sure she's fine or I'm sure they wouldn't have let me go home !! Her head has gone from free to 3/5 engaged too !! Really hoping she holds out until my section date haha

Hope everyone is ok Grin

cupcakefairy · 28/04/2012 13:16

Ah massive sympathies to ladies who can't sleep, I've been the same the last 2 nights just completely unable to get comfortable. Was awake for nearly 3 hours last night listening to dh snoring away (& reading mn on my phone!) Had the most awful reflux in my throat too & have run out of gaviscon :( gah these last few weeks really are the pits aren't they! Bump feels so heavy now & back hurts constantly!

littlesarah I don't live in a village buy I still don't have an abundance of offers of people to come round.. would love nothing more than for a friend to say 'shall we come for the afternoon' during the wk cos even just having a bit of company & someone else there for ds makes the day so much easier.. instead I'm having to take him out places a lot & it is SO exhausting. Hope your dh sticks to his promise!

Congrats bluecrane on finishing work, enjoy some time to yourself! I absolutely loved just sitting in the garden reading when pg with ds.. there was a heatwave on at the time though & I got a lovely brown bump (goes even darker brown then when it shrinks down!)

I've just wrapped my ds' pressie from the baby to go in my hospital bag.. Eek!

My mum sent me a link to a site where you can enter names in & it tells you how popular they've been over the last few years.. I'll try to link to it now..
