Wrigglebum · 25/04/2012 19:31

Wow good luck Miko, hope it all goes well for you. Bet you can't wait to meet your baby!

mythical · 25/04/2012 19:37

Congrats yorky and Lady!!
Good luck Miko :)
Sorry to bring the mood down am a bit disheartened - just seen midwife and little one not engaged at all :( she said if waters break ring hospital ASAP as there is a risk of cord prolapse..
I assume she will be late now? Am so fed up just want to curl up in bed :( but I can't because my belly is too big lol

LittleSarah · 25/04/2012 20:02

Hey mythical, is there are particular reason you were hoping for early delivery? Sorry, can't remember what you've said! Says on list you are due on the 3rd? I don't think it means she will be late despite you not being engaged, you just never know really, some babies will sit happily engaged for weeks! Sorry to hear you are feeling down, wee one will be here before you know it honest!

Harecare · 25/04/2012 20:03

Hooray miko
mythical - how rubbish! I was hoping you'd gone off and had the baby after your period type pains and then a long silence.
I left a message for my MW to see if she'd do a sweep tomorrow instead of next Thursday, but didn't get a reply. Maybe I should just stop by tomorrow and ask?
I really had planned to have the baby this week. Come on!!!! I got an offer of a mornings work on Friday today and said I couldn't as I might be having a baby. I wish I'd just said yes and then cancelled at the last minute. I reckon the more plans I make for the next few days the more chance the baby will come and spoil them.
I haven't packed any snacks - I guess I can do that tomorrow. Um, drinks with straws, what else? I doubt I'll be eating, but I should probably bring something for DP. Don't want him grumpy from hunger as well as just grumpy!

mythical · 25/04/2012 20:04

No it's just that midwife said it's unusual for first baby not to be engaged at 39 weeks so it didn't really fill me with confidence if you see what I mean :p

Catsycat · 25/04/2012 20:05

Good luck Miko, remember to have lots of walks round the hospital, as it's meant to help with the induction (I'm sure they'll tell you that anyway) :) Looking forward to an update from you when you can!

Don't feel downhearted mythical. I know it's hard, but try not to look at your EDD as a kind of target - I think its 5% or less of babies who are born on the EDD. Mine were 18 and 15 days late, so I can really sympathise with anyone who does go overdue, but you're not there yet - a lot can happen in a week... Try to relax and distract yourself if at all possible :)

Encouraged into attempting some kind of action by all the baby activity on here, I have opened some of the baby stuff boxes and bags, and kind of thrown it round the nursery a bit, rather aimlessly. Not sure it has helped the situation or just made a mess! I also bought some magazines for my hospital bag, and the mammoth maternity pad / nappy order has arrived this afternoon. Feeling a bit rubbish today, which hasn't helped progress on the enormous to do list - I'm really breathless and a bit faint / dizzy, and just really tired. I actually phoned the mw this morning and asked for a FBC to be done (and believe me I do not volunteer for blood tests, ever!), hoping to get the results tomorrow. Am feeling really caught between the idea of less than 4 weeks to go Shock and nearly 4 weeks to go :( iyswim!!!!

Harecare · 25/04/2012 20:12

mythical I didn't realise it was your first. I was 13 days over with DD1. I think first babies are usually later. Start making lots of fun plans now, make the most of being child free. Truly, once the baby comes you will be responsible 24/7. You could have a whole 2 weeks of pure freedom to enjoy. I know being pregnant is rubbish and uncomfortable, but once the baby is here you will never be child free again. enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

mythical · 25/04/2012 20:20

I know, trying to see the positive stuff, after midwife I went straight into body shop and got a load of nice smellies then some completely useless things that made me feel better - sleep mask, hair turban along those lines lol! So I'm planning to bounce on the fitness ball for a bit then a long soak in a (clary sage) bath & then into bed with a book!!
I'm also thinking of a nice way to tell people to stop asking if the baby is here yet before I murder someone!!
Thank you anyway, you are all right and I should stop being such a wuss x

LittleSarah · 25/04/2012 20:42

OOh yes mythical, read and go to the cinema and sleep in, have lunch with friends and get your nails done... you'll be a frumpy housebound mum before you know it! Wink

(PS You're not a wuss!)

LittleSarah · 25/04/2012 20:44

Catsy - I know what you mean, in a way the 19th seems forever away, at the same time it seems to be so close!

Blanket complete!

saggybaps · 25/04/2012 21:41

Hey Mythical don't be down, enjoy being able to go shopping up & down escalators as opposed to finding the lifts which are invariably at the back of the stores. Having a hot coffee or really any hot drink & maybe book a couple of pamper sessions.

It's horrible going over, all the excitement & then all the tension. I went over 13 days with my 1st. If you can, try lots of walking. Baby will be here soon! I'm right behind you due on the 4th, but guessing I'll be late again.

Best of luck

mythical · 25/04/2012 21:59

:) have spoken to my active birthing consulant and i'm going for a 2h session tomorrow so fingers crossed!

tostaky · 25/04/2012 22:36

and having sex is good too... (well it worked well with DS2 and the lack of it might have cause my induction for dS1)...

so exciting...!!!!

cupcakefairy · 25/04/2012 22:48

mythical I echo the others...go to the cinema during the day.. I did this loads during my mat leave with ds (before he arrived) & absolutely loved it! Hope the active birthing helps things along. Fwiw I don't think head being engaged is much indication of anything.. ds was engaged from 36 wks but still ended up 17 days late.

Well done for finishing blanket sarah, I still have ages to go..about to begin 3rd ball of wool..

My bump is incredibly itchy tonight its driving me NUTS.. I've been coating it in bio oil & other oil sprays in an attempt to.relieve it; I feel like a Christmas turkey!!

luckynumber11 · 26/04/2012 00:23

Fantastic news lady, congratulations! Good luck miko too, thinking of you tonight... It's really starting to happen now!
Although I could still have 5+ weeks to go... I think I do need them actually to get everything ready.
Hello cupcake - you were asking me about my girls names earlier up the thread, and this little one's name? Well I already have an Ava (chosen when it was about 200 on the birth register list, think its about number 10 now!), and a Sophia. As for dd3..we have got a shortlist down to 5/6 names, and only got that far last Friday. So we're still very undecided. Have a feeling this little one will be nameless for a few days when she's born!

LittleSarah · 26/04/2012 08:48

lucky - Lovely names! We have a fairly uncertain shortlist for this little one, hoping something will jump out when he is born but he could also be nameless for a few days.

Cupcake - Hope your bump isn't so itchy this morning! Re knitting I have a few things I was keen to do before baby came and most done now, just really want to finish the wee shrug cardi I am doing for dd. Anything I manage after that is just a bonus!

Will finish doula essay today. I will!

First up; going to see midwife.

BlueCrane · 26/04/2012 11:07

Anyone got any experience with leg cramp? It's my new pleasure Hmm which rudely woke me up this morning and was excruitaing in my right calf muscle and still doesn't feel right now! Sooo painful but I couldn't remember what I was supposed to do to stop it and would love now to try and prevent it happening again!

littlesarah hope the essay is progressing well and MW app was all ok?

Huge congrats Grin to the new arrivals and miko hope you're doing ok!!

cupcake I have also had itchy bump times...though last night it was most of my upper half...so back and front of my body which was annoying!

Re. names we're there for one gender but still struggling with a couple of options that we're not 100% about for the other which is feeling quite frustrating!

oltob · 26/04/2012 11:07

Good luck miko I hope it goes smoothly for you & you,re cuddling your LO already.
purestcocoa I was booked for induction with DD at 40+12, fortunately I went into labour the weekend before and she was born at 40+10. It's amazing how having a fixed goal can get you motivated.
For this one I worry that I might not have enough time. I need to go and sort out my tens machine and want to have as much reflexology a possible, stupid clinic didn't call back. As I understand it the induction will be pessary if necessary (apparently not always necessary with dc2 but after the 'unfavourable' cervix comment at the sweep on Tues may well happen) then when they can they'll break the waters, then I will be walking for England and hopefully that'll be enough to get Pippin going. If not it's a polite request for an epidural before they put me on the syntocin (sp?) drip to get the contractions happening. There doesn't seem so scary written down. Fingers crossed the ARM (artificial rupture of the membranes) is enough. I did have that in the end with DD and it worked well.
Right back on the phone to the reflexologist.

oltob · 26/04/2012 11:10

blue bananas are meant to help with cramp - I think it's the potassium, possibly.

mythical · 26/04/2012 11:15

BlueCrane i will try to explain without sounding like an idiot in english (this is where i hate being foreign :o)
When you stretch your legs, avoid flexing your.. toes outwards (like ballet?!) this also happens involuntarily in your sleep
When you get a cramp, try and sit up and pull your toes towards you, this should hopefully stop it.

BlueCrane · 26/04/2012 11:19

Thanks ladies mythical it may have been my morning 'cat stretch' that set it off this morning then Blush so if I try and keep toes back rather than stretched out that will hopefully help...but why oh why does it have to be bananas that can help with this - I hate bananas Sad so might need to seek out an alternative!

mythical · 26/04/2012 11:20

I have developed a phobia of stretching with my toes outwards since i got cramps from doing it, my body just sort of stops mid-stretch as if in saying "HANG ON, don't do this, it's gonna hurt!" :o

LittleSarah · 26/04/2012 12:35

Energy levels low today, may take a while to get to essay. Midwife fine, trace protein but nothing else so think it is nothing, plus platelets fine.

Re cramp, I get it occasionally at night and more often when pregnant and no idea how to avoid. It usually means me leaping out of bed and leaning heavily on afflicted leg to ensure a strongly flexed foot.

Wish ds was still napping so I could!

Wrigglebum · 26/04/2012 13:34

Yes, I get cramp if I point my toes in the morning (not just when pregnant but it makes it worse), so as soon as I remember I flex my foot instead. It's always worse in my right leg for some reason but if I get full on cramp my calf hurts for ages! I hate bananas too so shan't be trying that remedy Smile.

Mythical, babies all engage at different times, I don't remember being engaged early with DS but he was a bit early. But definitely try to enjoy the peace and quiet, I know it's easier said than done but what I wouldn't give for a nice nap or a chance to read a book right now! Long walks or bouncing on the birth ball do help to shift them down a bit too- a friend was saying yesterday how she walked 4 miles to get her daughter to come out with her husband following closely behind in the car in case she got tired or went into labour. That was the only one out of three she didn't need to be induced for Smile.

Getting so fed up of braxton hicks, it's exhausting- feels like being strapped to one of those slendertone machines the whole time! They got a bit better when baby went head down a couple of weeks ago but now they're getting really painful, couldn't sleep for ages last night they were so strong. I had a false labour about this time last pregnancy so I suppose it's to be expected.

Only 4 days til my CS now! We have plans in place in case I go into labour early, mum and dad will be here from Saturday so I'm happy to go into labour from then!

DS doing so well in pants now but I'm fed up of leaning down to empty potties! Then chasing him down to get his bottom wiped and hands clean- changing nappies seems like a breeze in comparison Grin. I'm hoping that spending time with DH on paternity leave might tempt him to wee standing up into the toilet once he sees daddy weeing a bit more.

Enough grumbling, I'm turning into such a grumpy cow recently so I'm glad to be on the home stretch!

cupcakefairy · 26/04/2012 14:04

I echo the flexed foot helping cramps, it does really hurt for the rest of the day though when you get a bad one! mythical I think tonic water is meant to help too?

sarah bump seems to get much more itchy in the evenings, evil new stretch marks! It's fine at the mo :) hope your energy levels pick up!

lucky your dds have lovely names. Will you go for another ending in an 'a' sound? My ds has a name that is gaining popularity so I don't want to go too 'trendy' with this one.. the ones we've picked are top 100 but hopefully not 5-in-their-class popular!
