Sorry Mythical - the pineapple needs to be fresh!

Another one stinking the bathroom out with clary sage here!

Mythical · 23/04/2012 23:28

noo! i have been stuffing my face with the wrong thing haha
oh well at least it's healthier than stuffing my face with chocolate i suppose!

SirCharles · 23/04/2012 23:37

Re what to drink instead of lucozade we were recommended by our NCT woman to try Coconut Water which has loads of electrolytes, not too much sugar & no caffeine. Not cheap but I have seen it in wait rose & is a current fad amongst exercising celebs..... Tastes nice too.

I think you need to eat 8 fresh pineapples to make a difference. I am so grumpy today. grrrr

Newtothisstuff · 24/04/2012 11:37

Haha I read that it was a stupid amount of pineapple too !! Imagine eating all that !!! Haha

LittleSarah · 24/04/2012 12:35

I can just see myself writing similar things in a couple of weeks but for the moment (36+3) I am happy for the wee man to stay in place. Mainly because I can't have a home birth before 38+ but also because I am desperate to finish my doula essay, spring cleaning and knitting, in that order!!

I have actually been doing quite well with the essay over the last couple of days and should definitely be able to send it off by the end of the week, phew, and the cleaning is coming along too. First load of baby clothes are in the wash too!

Apart from all that not too much to report here, heard nothing about low platelets so think that is all okay. Off to do some knitting, good luck with the labour starting attempts.

BlueCrane · 24/04/2012 12:51

8 pineapples Shock Shock That's an awful lot!!!

Looks as though I might need to stock up on clarry sage too then...what does one do with that? I can't start any of these things for a couple of week, when I'll be 37+4 and DM has arrived from overseas - she hasn't seen me with bump yet so LO forbidden to appear before then, but is v welcome from the moment she has arrived!!

Had a call from DH this morning who was about to leave for work when the doorbell rang and a very rude citylink delivery guy appeared with our pram (which wasn't due to be delivered until Monday - my first day of mat leave!). The delivery driver refused to carry the boxes up to our flat so DH had to manhandle them up...I do wonder whether the bloke would've carried them up if I was the only one at home Hmm eitherway...I get to open it all and have a play with it tonight, but it isn't quite the first day of mat leave treat that it was supposed to be!! Kinda wondering why M&P ask you to choose a delivery date if they're going to totally ignore it! V odd!

littlesarah well done having brain for essay writing! I'd end up with total gibberish if I tried that at the moment as babybrain seems to be ruling!

Exciting to see things starting to happen for you all!! here's hoping for some more announcements soon!

dreamingofanallotment · 24/04/2012 12:53

I was eyeing up pineapples in aldi the other day - not sure I fancy eating 8 though! (surely that would have horrific toilet effects too?!?!)
I've just had my 38 week check - all seems to be fine and dandy with the baby so that's good! Haven't really been thinking about how to evict the baby - but reading about all of you with your clary sage baths, curry etc, I'm wondering if I should! I have been (when I remember!) taking raspberry leaf tea tablets though.
Only three more days now BlueCrane! Re. baby clothes, I think I've packed newborn - but some newborn clothes are up to about 7.5lb, whilst others are more like 9lb so I think between my labour bag and the bag I've packed if I have to stay in longer, I've got a range of sizes.

Bodeccia · 24/04/2012 13:38

So... just had news of a friend who has given birth at the weekend who practised perinium massage beforehand and had no tears, and she's recovering really well. She's a big advocate of it now.

Not really sure what I make of it. I go from being a total prude ("you have to do what???) to being intrigued. I'm 38+4, I'm thinking its a bit late for me.

You've got to do something to pass the time, right? Hmm

Catsycat · 24/04/2012 14:23

Hi everyone. I'm back from lovely Cornwall now (had a great week but very busy!), so just had a quick catch up on the thread - lovely to read about house moves, blessings & weddings :), but sorry about the twatlike DPs :(. Big congratulations to goodname - hope you are doing well!

Just had my consultant appt and another growth scan - I'm 35+1 atm. ELCS is now booked for 21st May. The baby was estimated at 3060g (which I think is way over 6lbs already) - if it continues on that curve, it'll be around the 10lb mark by 39 weeks!!! Explained to the consultant about my rather embarrassing and extremely annoying medical / hospital phobia, and he has asked the person doing the CS list to put me first on the list (more chance of me not doing a runner while I can still move!). Actually felt sick, started shaking and felt close to tears while swabbing my nose for the MRSA test - I think it might be time to get the tapes my hypnotist made for me out again (if I can find anything in the house that still plays tapes!).

Weirdly, the consultant also offered me a tubal ligation if I wanted one (I did say it was likely to be our last baby), and said if I wanted it just to tell them on the day, and they'd do it while they were in there!!! Not sure what I think about that one yet.

Went into Stratford afterwards for a few hospital bag bits, and bought the biggest knickers the world has ever seen (in BHS) and they were on offer! They actually look like I could tuck them into my bra. They are so ugly I felt I had to justify the purchase to the person on the till, but they should be brilliant for not digging into the scar. I couldn't find any flip flops that would fit over my surgical stockings though, which was a bit of a pain. All the ones I could find were thong style, and I need the over the foot ones... Debenhams had one pair, but they were really narrow, so over a sexy hospital stocking, they would have no chance!

Having a date has really put into perspective how much I need to do... we only got the baby stuff out of the loft on Sunday, and omg there is so much of it - where on earth did we put it all before??? Better get going and try to unpack / wash / put away as much as I can.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Wrigglebum · 24/04/2012 15:36

When I was pregnant with DS I went for a long walk every day to buy a pineapple, I figured even though I mightn't be eating enough pineapple at least the walk might do something Smile. He was born at 39+5 so maybe it did something! We also went for a nice curry a couple of days before. I think babies just come when they're ready and all these things are diversions to keep us busy Smile.

I packed newborn stuff last time and DH had to go out and get tiny baby size as DS was only 6lb! This time I've packed the smaller newborn (up to 7.5lb) and laid the drawer out into tiny baby, small newborn, bigger newborn (up to 9/10lb) and 0-3m so DH can grab the right size as needed! I had a dream the other night where this baby was a 6lb10oz girl.

I did perineal massage last time and still ended up with an episiotomy and 3b tear so it doesn't work for everyone Sad. The midwives said I was pretty stretchy but just very small.

Looks like DS is going into pants at night now, he's mostly dry in the morning and getting upset at wearing pull ups! He keeps asking to wear pants instead so we'll give it a go and see how we go. He's waking up early to wee so we're all pretty sleep deprived here, just what we need when there's only 6 days left til my CS Shock. I can't believe how quickly this potty training is going- its been 3 weeks and we've not had many accidents. I'm gradually persuading him to use the toilet seat as I'm fed up of cleaning potties already!

Catsycat · 24/04/2012 16:14

Wriggle, we packed newborn stuff for DD2, only to have to upgrade to 0-3 months, as she was a bit of a bruiser! The sight of them trying to get her into the newborn clothes after they'd whipped her out was pretty amusing (I am a very cruel mother, shame on me!). Looks like DD3 will be huge too, so I will be packing two lots of baby things in the hospital bag, clearly labelled as "newborn" and "0-3", also 2 lots of nappies, as even they were too small last time!

I think you're right about the walking / pineapple thing too - I think walking is much more likely to help. The VBAC mw last time also recommended star jumps!!! I can't imagine the heartburn from eating enough pineapple to induce labour. As for curry, we eat loads of hot curries and both DDs were over 2 weeks late... Oh, and with DD2 (18 days late!) I also tried castor oil (thanks for that bit of advice mum!), and I would say to anyone considering it, just don't. Don't do it. It is disgusting (actually taking it, and what happens afterwards). And did it work? Of course not. Grrrr! :)

cupcakefairy · 24/04/2012 16:23

catsy we also tried everything for my ds, and I mean everything (including dtd every night, not easy with 42 wk bump!) Some Indian remedies recommended by a friend, lots of furrows & walking.. I even used to walk up & down the stairs all evening.. nothing worked & still got induced at 17 days over. I had also done loads of perineal massage but ended up with episiotomy..this was cos ds was back to back though so maybe would have helped if he wasn't.. I haven't bothered this time though, in fact been way too lazy relaxed about everything this time! Just hoping for the best...

I've only packed newborn clothes in my bag, & size 1 nappies.. here's hoping it's not a massive baby!

Took my city mini double out for a spin today (as dh went to work with the maclaren in the boot!) V much enjoyed it :) so smooth and easy to steer.

cupcakefairy · 24/04/2012 16:23

Ha, furrows?? Curries! Stupid autocorrect.

Wrigglebum · 24/04/2012 17:00

My nephew was also too big for newborn and went straight into 0-3m, DS wasn't big enough for 0-3m until 12 weeks old! I think when you're packing you need to guess based on the size of babies in your family (DH and I were both small babies even though we're pretty big adults) and the size of your bump. Someone can always run out and get the right size anyway now so many supermarkets are 24hr and sell baby clothes.

I seriously cannot imagine doing star jumps now let alone in a few weeks time! I'm quite grateful to be booked in for a CS- I'm 38+2 now and if I had another 4 weeks left I think I'd go crazy! At least I know this one will be coming out soon Smile.

myweeangel · 24/04/2012 17:37

Wrigglebum I had a dream too - I dreamt I had a boy (I'm suspecting that anyway and everyone who guesses says same - I'm "beachballish"), it was a home birth (please God, no!), he weighed 10lbs 11ozs (please, please God, NO!) and... wait for it... was wearing these awful big NHS glasses when he was delivered.
When Baby arrives I shall let you all know which of these, if any, are true!
Hang in there girls, we're doing great, nearly there.

Newtothisstuff · 24/04/2012 18:44

Hey girls.. Defo has to be a hormone thing with the dreams I keep having them.. That I forget the baby or the hospital forget where they have put her !!
Had another tracing today, probably the best one I've had yet, she was very active when usually she chooses to sleep Grin the midwives don't half state the obvious tho.. "omg your bump is way too small" funny that seeing as that's why I'm here hahaha grumpy today !!! Smile

LittleSarah · 24/04/2012 19:00

myweeangel - lol at huge NHS glasses! Fab.

I just burnt the boeuf bourguignon so pizza and chips now in the oven. Sigh. At least pregnancy is great excuse.

Bodeccia - No perineal massage here and no tears (although 'badly grazed' first time!) but my midwife suggested it and I may give it a go these last few weeks, esp as have been rubbish with yoga this time. Really don't want to tear as I'd have to go to hospital to get stitch and when you have done the whole home birth thing the idea of then having to get up and go to hospital is pretty depressing!

Funny you should be mentioning clothes size for newborn now. Having washed main load I seem to have a random selection. I have seven tiny baby vests! Up to 6Ib....? Think my friend must have given me those. Even dd, who was just 5'10 when born just wore normal newborn. Don't think I have any newborn, just 0-3... argh. Think I will buy some newborn vests and babygros. Also still need big pants, thanks for reminder catsy!

bluecrane - I had delivery issues with M&S recently, for Mothers' Day flowers. Arrived two days after Mothers' Day! Hmmm, thanks M&S.

Finished a hat today!

Catsycat · 24/04/2012 20:05

myweeangel - I'm guessing the NHS glasses would have shown up on your scan, so hopefully that one at least won't be true Wink

littlesarah well done on finidhing your hat! I took my knitting on holiday and manged to sew up a tiny cardigan (had to undo previous attempt to sew it up - have no memory of doing it, and it looked like I was blindfold when I did it - really embarrassing as I'm a dressmaker!!!). I then completed - ta da! - precisely one inch of DD2's jumper!!! Must do better...

newtothis glad it's not just me that gets all grumpy over the medical stuff! I gave short shrift to a HCA, MW and consultant today, who all drew attention to the first (borderline) GTT result in my notes, but failed to read the second result, which was fine... Obviously Warks staff can't read Worcs notes!!!!! Grin.

Yorky big congrats, hope both of you are doing well :)

LimeFlower · 24/04/2012 22:08

cupcake your gentle persuasion didn't work and the bag is still not packed...managed to sort out my bits though-I'm proud of my trimming skills :o

thanks for the tip about juice-was going to get some lucozade but it makes me thirsty.as for snack-will probably get some weetabix raisin pellets-munching them just now.

have a pineapple in the kitchen-it's looking at me but I'm scared to touch it-it's not anywhere near my time yet as I will be 36 weeks on Thursday.

strange dreams were with me since the beginning of pregnancy-honestly I'm truly amazed at my brain's ability to mix the facts from my life with book fiction and come with such nonsense that I wake up laughing/crying or just thinking "it can't be true"

my jaws are in overdrive tonight and I'm munching through everything-trying to keep to fruit and no junk.thank goodness my weight has stopped increasing-3 stones is enough

Newtothisstuff · 24/04/2012 22:09

Congratulations... How exciting !!! Our 2nd baby Grin

BlueCrane · 24/04/2012 22:13
