SESthebrave · 22/04/2012 19:46

Congratulations goodname
You must be relieved you didn't have to go through with the induction. Hope the feeding continues to go well and the sleep improves!
:)

SirCharles · 22/04/2012 21:18

Many congrats goodname. So good you avoided induction & all going well.
I wonder who will be next.....
I hope this one hangs on until we have finished unpacking. I have a mountain of clothes given to me by friends & family but although I bought a bedside bassinet off eBay I have no sheets or blankets & no nappies.... 36 weeks now so I better get a move on!!!
Thanks for the tips re pads & bed protectors. I can feel a John Lewis on line order coming on Grin I struggled back on the bus on Thursday with a few bits n pieces but the actual shopping was the exhausting part!!! Online is so much easier.

Congratulations goodname, that's wonderful news. Just shows how effective a sweep can be?! So glad you made it to the hospital, one of my friends did end up having her second child in the front seat of the car when her labour came on much quicker than the first time round!
Looking forward to hearing the little one's name, it took us a few days after dd2 was born to sort that out. I hope you get a little bit of sleep in the next day or two...

(btw mythical, didn't want you to think I was ignoring your offer of the facebook group, but I'm not on Facebook so wont be able to join in on that, sorry).

cupcakefairy · 22/04/2012 21:37

Yippeeeee congratulations goodname so excited we have our second baby! And so encouraged to hear a sweep worked for you, & about ds1 too as I know he's the same age as my ds.

Thanks for the wipes tips ladies will definitely be looking into them but lol yorky you're right in bleary eyed nighttime changes I probably would end up chucking wipes in the bin & disposable nappies in the laundry Grin

myweeangel · 22/04/2012 22:10

goodname so delighted for you! And so jealous! Had a little look at the photos in your profile what a calm. contented, happy little family you appear to be! Let us know the name when you can. Congrats! I'll toast you with my next glass of shloer... :)
My sweep is on Friday when I'll be 38 + 3, not sure if it'll work because it should've been following week but clinic closed. Does anyone know if it's just a pointless getting it early? I'm hoping someone tells me it is more effective with number two babies???

Mythical · 22/04/2012 23:14

goodname fantastic news!!!!!! congratulations
Thanks

re: facebook group
no worries if you don't want to join or don't use facebook! the offer is out there anyway :)

I....have....tried... everything!!! apart from curry. i hate curry
she will not budge! TEN days left tomorrow and i'm slowly losing hope she'll be early! :(

Yorky · 23/04/2012 10:11

So unfair, a lady I know from the school gates was due on the same day as me and had her little boy yesterday - 7lb2oz - I am getting impatient!

ballroompink · 23/04/2012 11:52

Huge congrats goodname and glad that you are both well! Two of the babies from my NCT class have arrived now as well (one at 37 weeks, one at 38 weeks) so am really feeling as if we're on the home stretch now (am 36+4 myself). Put the waterproof mat on the bed yesterday Wink and am going to spend this week getting everything I need finalised.

LimeFlower · 23/04/2012 12:45

Big congrats goodname what a lovely baby:)

on the bed pads topic:ordered 2 of these:

www.amazon.co.uk/Washable-Absorbent-Bed-Pad-90cms/dp/B000MES1W8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335181494&sr=8-1

somebody please give me a kick up my backside to start packing my hospital bag!

cupcakefairy · 23/04/2012 13:06

Go pack it limeflower!! Grin
I'm hardly in a position for backside-kicking though.. my hospital bag is currently two piles inside the moses basket - need to actually pack it this week as 'officially' 38 weeks on Weds (but 37 by my dates).

I also need to book my bikini wax in! Had it done at 37 weeks last time and ended up going 2 weeks over so was a bit useless in the end Grin Not sure when I should do it this time but things are VERY untidy down there (since I haven't been able to see it!!) so def needs doing.. hopefully next week.

Hope everyone is feeling ok today..I have one wriggly baby, hopeit's working its way further downwards! Grin

BlueCrane · 23/04/2012 13:07

Aargh!! SO uncomfortable sat at my desk today...only got to manage until the end of this week thankfully but having taken a dislike to my left hip I think LO has now found my rib cage as well so has starting booting that too and it HURTS!!! No matter how much I rub my bump and try talking to LO saying that those bits are immovable bits of Mummy it just doesn't seem to listen and carries on trying to move them Confused Any other suggestions (that don't include crawling around on all fours trying to get it to move - that really might be waaay too much for the guys in the office!!)

LimeFlower · 23/04/2012 14:35

ok,cupcake I'm going,going eventually will get there...
just had a look at MN guide what should i take-i suppose it depends how long you're going to be there?if everything's fine a couple of days,in case of problems another couple of days?Pack more at the beginning or pack 2 bags?1 to take with me,another one in case i have to stay longer?car seat is not on the list and will be delivered later by DH so i suppose he could drop off the rest of stuff like extra nappies, cotton wool and a couple of tshirts?does the baby really NEEDS 5 sleepsuits and 5 vests?Confused

for tidying up "down there" i got the batteries for a trimmer so going to try it this week but dreading that already.

Bluecrane my best wishes-i finished work 10 days ago-used to work 12 hour shifts and another 2 hrs for commuting.I was absolutely knackered.

Anyway, best wishes to all these waddling, huffing and puffing and those lucky ones with their wee ones in their arms x

cupcakefairy · 23/04/2012 14:57

Good luck with the trimming lime I'd be scared to shred it to pieces I can't see a thing down there Grin
I have a small bag for 'labour & immediately after' (so my labour stuff & just baby's first outfit & 1 nappy) and a bigger bag assuming 1 nights stay. Only 3 vests/sleepsuits & about 10 nappies (& cardigan, blanket etc too) dh will go home for more if we need to stay longer.

saggybaps · 23/04/2012 16:29

Congratulations Goodname - brilliant news!

I just need a couple more days to get things ready... then on Friday (39 wks)this baby is being served its eviction notice! Reflexology, accupuncture, curries... bring them on!

Bodeccia · 23/04/2012 16:33

For hospital bags I found this part of this thread from the April Ladies really useful, and I've used it for my labour/hospital bag. I took the advice and have packed two: one for labour and one for post natal. The only real question on my mind is what snacks to take: I want something nutritious but energy giving too - I'm not mad about the idea of lucozade or sports drinks.

I've been feeling really heavy and achy and LO is moving quite strongly. I've also been sleeping loads - I figure it can only be a good thing. I'd love it if this baby was early, but it could still be another 4 weeks (God, I hope not), I'm 38+ at the mo.

Man, I really don't care about my lady topiary - I can't see it anyway, let alone reach it...! I would probably do myself an injury. Funnily enough though, I got really obsessive about getting my eyebrows threaded and my upper lip done. I've got something going on in my head about looking nice for the photos after giving birth. I even got a hair cut on Saturday.

Hope this week goes quickly for you BlueCrane. Keep giving yourself reasons to move about - e.g. if you have time, go and speak to people rather than email them, that's what I ended up doing at the end. I couldn't bear sitting for too long, it just got so uncomfortable. I took a little cushion in too for the small of my back, that helped a bit.

Hope everyone else is feeling OK. I'm feeling a bit housebound, but I've got the box set of The Wire, so things are looking good (I'm hoping non of the sex and violence I seem to be drawn to isn't going to have a negative effect on LO)

:)

Mythical · 23/04/2012 16:37

i bought this when it was on offer for £1.99 and it was great, i munched through my bag though and now have none for my labour bag! need to get myself into town again asap :)

Bodeccia · 23/04/2012 16:53

Of course! Fruit and nut type things! Good call :)

tostaky · 23/04/2012 17:51

I can't believe we are fast approaching meeting our babies!!!

Congrats goodname! So happy for you it went well!

I still need to get all the baby things (clothes, Moses basket, bouncer etc) out and wash them... I'm due end of may so will do that the first week of may...

I bought a maternity support band and it has been great helping with my back pain!should have gotten one earlier.

purestcocoa · 23/04/2012 18:11

I think I am too eager. My labor wheely case is in front of my door in attempt to think positively and push things along. How naive am I?

Bodeccia I love The Wire such a great series and I wish I hadn't already seen it as it would be a great distraction. I really wanted to get The Sopranos boxset as I think that will be equally good or even better.

I know what you mean by feeling achy. I'm typing my way through back pain, pelvic pressure and now my knees are starting to ache! I'm only 38+1 but I feel like my body is going to give way any minute. I might have to try a maternity support band too Tostkay.

Good call on the fruit 'n' nut snacks Mythical < sheepishly puts jammy dodgers and cadbury's fingers back in cupboard> Blush

Fingers crossed for saggybaps and Mystical to be amongst the next proud new mummies :)

Wrigglebum · 23/04/2012 18:38

Instead of lucozade, I heard somewhere that mixing juice and water 50:50 is a good way for your body to absorb the water and the sugar. We did it when walking in the outback when in Oz and it was really refreshing- just cheap apple juice and water in a sports bottle. That might be a good one for the hospital bag. Fruit and nuts also good- even if you don't fancy them in labour they'll be good for the postnatal ward (or middle of the night Breastfeeding snacks Grin).

Definitely echo the two or more bags, there's not much space on the ward for bags so it's good to have things that can be taken home and new things brought along. I've got a bag of extra stuff if I end up in for more than a couple of nights, it can live in the car boot. And don't use a nice bag for your labour bag, ours (and everything in it, it seemed) got covered in blood!

Mythical · 23/04/2012 18:50

thanks for the tip about the juice. Wrigglebum, i'd given up on the idea as i am not allowed to have high glucose drinks because of my tachycardia - it might trigger it.
I've recently been on the labour ward to get monitored and the room was HUGE! and it had a huge wetroom! and a tv! I did have to shout at dh to turn it off though when he was watching antiques roadshow and i couldn't hear what the midwife was saying! nice to see he was settling in lol Hmm
I took the dog for a walk earlier and now i have period like pains.. I might go for a bath soon..

BlueCrane · 23/04/2012 19:58

Feel so uncomfortable tonight from sitting at my desk all day, but must focus on the fact there's not many days left...of work that is...plenty too many days until due date!!!

I'm now wondering about my hospital bag...currently have one for me, one for baby and one for DH Blush been struggling with what size clothes to take for LO...do I go for newborn or 0-3m? The 0-3m look huge!!

Those talking of 'The Wire' we really love it...but have finished it now so are in search of our next box set and have also been considering The Soprano's!

Harecare · 23/04/2012 20:48

Congratulations Goodname!!
I thought I was having contractions in the early hours this morning, but they weren't anything - or maybe I should have jumped out of bed and started bouncing? Had acupuncture this morning and am currently sniffing clary sage and bouncing.
I'm booked for a sweep next thur (3rd May), EDD 28th April. Do you reckon they'd do a sweep this Thursday if I asked nicely? I'd be 39 weeks +5. I really need this baby to come before the wedding on 5th May.
Desperate!!!!!!!!
mythycal - must look up your EDD. I'm hoping the pains are the start for you. I can't go for a walk, but I'm bouncing. What else can I try???

Mythical · 23/04/2012 20:54

Due may 3rd :o
Am currently in a bath & all I can smell is clary sage!!!! My nose hurts!! I had a tin of pineapple last night and I'm taking my evening primrose & raspberry leaf capsules daily...

I'm gonna go overdue aren't I.......:(

Harecare - worth a try with the sweep!

Harecare · 23/04/2012 21:01

My own dates give May 2nd, but luckily the scan says 28th April. With DD1 and DD2 there was a similar gap between the 2 dates and I was happy to wait 'til my own estimate. I'm much more active this time - I'm walking an hour every morning on the school run and have been bouncing and drinking raspberry leaf tea and bathing in clary sage which I didn't try at all with first DDs. Surely it must make some difference? I couldn't even walk by the end with either of them - spd.
Please have you baby soon and give me some hope mythical!
