Thanks *Mikocat" for the new name.

Ha ha! Maybe you should warn him to start taking up 4 or 5 slabs to make it easier for you when you need to hide the evidence!
Trying to focus on the baby and the girls to get through the next week or so. I think it's time to call in all favours for help getting DD1 to and from school, ballet and swimming. Nearly killed me this week.
DPs Mum has hoovered and cleaned the bathroom which is rather nice and he's at work all day so I can have a lovely bath, sleep some more and watch films. I woke at 3am this morning and couldn't get back to sleep 'til about 6. Argh!

LimeFlower · 21/04/2012 15:22

Wasn't so bad then,Newtothis? I was always wondering how they are able to get the weight of the baby wrong so often.Plenty of threads when poor women were threatened with giant or too small ones.

Harecare that's it-relax while you can and it's so levely that your P's mum helps you.

Cleaned most of the house yesterday leaving just hoovering for DH as dyson is quite heavy. What a strange feeling saying D "H" instead of "P".
Faffing all day with a laptop,as my throat/sinuses are on the go again.Thank goodness I've finished work,my long hours would have killed me.

Going to my lovely MIL tomorrow,so no cooking for me,yipeeee :)

LittleSarah · 21/04/2012 18:02

So the blessingway was fab! One sister couldn't keep a straight face during actual blessing bit, not that I am surprised, but she managed not to completely lose it. I found it lovely and calming. After the blessing my auntie read a poem she had written a few years back, then we had some food and shared stories about labour/birth/parenting. It was really interesting and some people got quite emotional. Then my mum's friend read a Scots' poem called 'My Newborn Son' and my sisters did a rap. Yes a rap. Much laughter! At the end everyone added their bead to the bracelet one by one and said why they had picked that bead (eg: my v non spiritual sister said 'um I don't really have a story as I just got mine from the bead shop - some others got theirs from old jewellery - but it's pretty and sparkly like you', my other sister: 'I got you a heart because I love you and it has a Scotland flag because you're braw'. Really sweet.)

Sorry not to mention it earlier harecare! Thought it might sound a bit weird but then was excited about it so thought I'd tell all. Will try and put pic of bracelet on my profile.

Lime - We'll be cleaning tomorrow, dh keeps going on about it being time for spring cleaning which means he is feeling the urge and therefore I must too Smile. Luckily I'm quite happy to do some too although I did remind him of my eight months pregnant status.

Sorry to hear about twattish behaviour from dh/dp saggybaps and harecare, that must be so hard right now. Sounds like concentrating on yourselves and other children is the way to go. I hope things improve.

Hello to everyone else, hope weekends are treating you well!

cupcakefairy · 21/04/2012 18:05

Just joining in the mil appreciation.. we're at pils for the weekend & 6.20am this morning when ds wakes she's straight into his room to get him up so we can sleep in.. then she & the rest of ils have been entertaining him all day so I have mostly just sat down.. very lovely!! Back for proper post soon.. x

dreamingofanallotment · 21/04/2012 19:17

Your blessingway sounds lovely LittleSarah - I read about something similar in an Eco parenting book I was reading earlier. How nice to have everyone choosing a bead - that will be something good to focus on in labour!

Cupcakefairy your mil sounds fab! My mil has just finished making the baby a hungry caterpillar playmat which looks lovely, and she's cooking Sunday lunch for us tomorrow, wahey!

Hope you feel better soon limeflower - and don't think I ever said congrats on your wedding! The novelty of saying 'my husband' still hasn't dimmed for me 18 months down the line!

Did the registrar give you any info after the tracing newtothis? What was it they were monitoring - baby's hb?

I am knackered and achy today - we went round a local national trust place today as it was free this weekend, but fear I rather overdid the walking from how my hips feel. Got woken up a lot in the night with horrible heartburn too - even though everything I read about being 37/38 weeks says that baby has dropped down so heartburn should decrease......hmmmm Hmm but on the bright side, I finally have a decorated living room and a telly that works!! Woo!

SirCharles · 22/04/2012 00:39

Just a quick one, picking up on comments a few back...... Where do I get a waterproof mattress protector & things to protect the car seats....!? Sorry for thicko question but I really don't know!
I don't think I even know what these things would look like!!!
Oh & what pads are you getting? Dizzying array. I get so confused when I look that I don't end up with any!!!!!!!
Help me please Grin

charles boots & most supermarkets do the maternity mats, in the same aisle as all the baby stuff, breast pads etc.. they are also v useful to protect sheets from leaking boobs in the night (well, speaking as someone who had such a ridiculous amount of milk I could've fed triplets)
I have a couple of packs of Asda maternity pads, think any brand of these will do u just want something nice & thick in case you're sore down there.. I used to coat mine in witch hazel & stick them in the freezer before wearing..was blissful on painful episiotomy!

Wrigglebum · 22/04/2012 07:56

Maternity mats are easy to find in a Mothercare or big Boots, but I got the Pampers disposable changing mats instead as they are pretty much the same thing but cheaper. I did find the disposable mats moved a lot in the bed though and got a bit tatty under the sheets.

If you want something washable try places that do potty training products- this looks good. Alternatively you can get soft terry coated PUL fitted waterproof sheets to go on your bed- John Lewis and Dunelm Mill are good for those. They'll be useful if you have v leaky boobs, as cupcake said, especially if you feed in bed (also if you end up co sleeping with a baby with a leaky nappy or potty trained toddler Grin).

Maternity pads are a personal preference- some people get the big type, others get the slim ones and some prefer regular sanitary towels. I used the big sort for a few days (extra padding for sore bits), then moved to the slim ones, then to sanitary towels and finally just panty liners as the bleeding slowed down.

Operation empty freezer of things that need cooking and replace with things that only need warming is going well! We have a couple of portions of bolognese sauce, some curry and I'll make some casserole and a big chilli in the week. Then I can fill with some oven chips and fish portions too. A couple of playgroups I go to deliver meals to you when you have a baby too so we should be eating well at least. We also have a rice cooker that I use to make risotto and paella by just throwing in some rice, meat and frozen veg- it gets a lot of use Smile.

tostaky · 22/04/2012 08:04

I second cupcakefairy regarding poping a few disposable pads in the freezer for sore bits after labour and even sore boobs!!!

No news from goodname... Maybe our second baby has arrived!!! GrinGrinGrin

Wrigglebum · 22/04/2012 08:06

Here is one of the waterproof fitted bed sheets. They are really soft and not sweaty like those old wet the bed sheets they had when we were kids (my nanny insisted on having those on the beds when we visited until we were about 10 Hmm and they crinkled- yuck). We've got them on DS's bed and the bed in the baby's room where I'll sleep for a bit when this one is born.

Better go as I need to play cars now Smile.

Wrigglebum · 22/04/2012 08:13

Oh one last thing- thick maternity pads are also supposed to be good to protect a CS scar- stick them in your big pants where the scar is to protect you from wriggly babies as you feed or cuddly toddlers.

cupcakefairy · 22/04/2012 08:38

Washable mats is a great idea. Reminds me I had also meant to look into reusable wipes this time for baby (can't quite face reusable nappies) does anyone else use those or know of a good place to look for them? I've read you can make your own solution to soak them in so maybe you can just buy towelling fabric and cut into squares.. hmm..

Wrigglebum · 22/04/2012 09:17

Cupcake- I used washable wipes for a while. I tried a few kinds but my favourite were the Cotton Babies ones (people who make BumGenius nappies), they are flannelette which seems nice and soft and thin enough to get in all the creases. Towelling felt a bit scratchy IMO and fleece just seems to move the poo around. Not sure where to get them, I found mine in Mothercare but I don't think they stock them in store anymore. They'll be online somewhere.

When they're tiny just water is good, and camomile tea if they get a sore bum. After weaning I made a solution with water, a squirt of baby wash and a bit of baby lotion shaken up in a bottle then poured over the wipes.

Reusable nappies really aren't difficult or icky, honest Smile. You might be able to borrow some to try them out if you get interested.

Yorky · 22/04/2012 09:51

I use cheeky wipes, they're easy cos they come in a kit with a box and some oil to make them smell nice :) choose bamboo or cotton, not scratchy at all and I agree, much more use than fleece for cleaning bottoms. Hate disposable wipes now - they just don't do it as well!
TBH, I find it easiest to use all of one or the other - washable wipes and nappies, or all disposable - sorting washing from binning requires more brain power than I have available atm Blush

Lousy night last night, really not sure why we need a newborn when the existing 3DC seem to be able to organise their shifts so we get minimum sleep as it is :(

Fingers crossed for Goodname and her lack of news Grin although I'm not the slightest bnit jealous, will be SO nice when I can have my pelvis all to myself.

Blessingway sounds lovely, and I think your bracelet will be a fantastic and unusual addition to baby's memory box.

goodname · 22/04/2012 13:37

I have a baby :) he was born yesterday morning at 4:52 and weighed 7lb12. Fastest labour ever, dh drove through every red light on the way to the hospital and just made it. Baby was born about half an hour after we arrived. We are both fine and home now. Sleep is not good so far, totally wrecked as he is feeding constantly. typing with one hand while feeding just now. Oh ds1 is very happy with his new baby brother, not jealous at all so very pleased
lovely not to be pregnant anymore i must say

Newtothisstuff · 22/04/2012 14:36

GrinGrin congratulations xx

LittleSarah · 22/04/2012 15:26

Yay! Congratulations goodname! Does the wee man have a name yet? Glad to hear ds1 is fine and that ds2 is feeding, even though exhausting his poor mamma!! What a good weight too! How long was labour from start to finish may I ask? And how long was your first? I'm v interested as mine are getting quicker so like to hear other peoples experiences!!

Grin Brew Thanks!!!

Wrigglebum · 22/04/2012 15:35

HeidiHole · 22/04/2012 17:59

congratulations goodname thats such great news. Very jealous that you're not pregnant anymore :) Getting uncomfy here and i'm only 37 weeks (well in 2 days time) the thought of going to 42 is sobering!!

So glad that your DS1 isn't jealous and already loves the baby, how fabulous!
