hey all, not long to go until this thread is full now - we sure can chatter!
surfmama I think in 'ye olden days', rich women could lie around all day fanning themselves, but plebs had to just get on with it. And normally, plebs had fewer kids than the wealthy, as they breastfed, and so had natural spacing between children, whereas the wealthy hired wet nurses, and the women were essentially brood mares for the next generation. Hence why so many rich women died in childbirth - they were quite literally worn out! (I am not a historian btw, but am sure I read this in a book called 'Dream Babies' about the history of child raising. worth a read if you see it in the library!).
small hope you got some sleep! I managed about 3 hours last night, so am slightly less ratty today. DS was in our bed from 4 though, and just would not go back to sleep, he was crying for milk, and we think he's going through a growth spurt, as he's eating us out of house and home these past few days!
rhi I think regarding induction/big babies, they do induce diabetic mothers in case of big babies, due to other complications that can arise due to the diabetes. However, if no history/evidence of diabetes, you're on your own, and baby will come when baby comes! my wee sister (her of the maggots) had her DS at 34+5 last year, due to induction following diabetic complications - he was 6lb 12oz at birth! pretty enormous for his gestation! I'm still not sure what they class as big though, as DS was on the 75th centile at birth, was born at 41 weeks, and still I get sharp intakes of breath every time I mention his birth weight (8lb 15.5oz) to a HCP. Am hoping this baby is a decent size though, despite all the tearing etc, as I would be worried about breaking a wee tiny newborn - DS was pretty robust at birth, and has been ever since :o
cath we were thinking of ballet lessons for DS, it has so many positives - mainly being indoors. A former colleague of mine told me to avoid football/rugby for kids, as she is already sick to the back teeth of freezing wet saturday mornings sat by the pitch :o I think DS would enjoy ballet too, he does mince around the house quite a lot already, so would just need music to mince to :o
amethyst what a palaver! you do wonder how some folk manage to qualify as doctors sometimes, when they have clearly never met a real life person before they start work. hope today is better for you!
tea any news?
Warlin not long now at work, can you try and take the odd day off here and there before your mat leave? totally worth taking time off before baby arrives so you can have a breather, especially with your first. you won't get this time again, sadly! I didn't take this advice last time btw, and do regret it a bit now, as I've not had a day to myself in nearly 3 years now. it would be so lovely just to slob around the house doing nothing for a day or two, but not possible with a toddler in tow!
right, better do some work. just had a paper accepted that has been out for review FOREVER, so am feeling slightly chuffed, but it is spurring me on to finish the draft manuscript I'm avoiding right now!
hope the weather isn't as shite where you all are as it is here. miserable day, no matter how much we need it, I'd love a wee bit of respite from the rain!
