McKayz - oh dear. That's a shame. Are they mainly on his torso - it generally starts there... hope you have a nice birthday anyway - dose him up with lots of medicine and liquid piriton in case its itchy.

Just want to try this Dragon - Happy St George's Day!

Warlin · 23/04/2012 12:05

Hi All

My goodness we ladies can chat...lots to catch up on since Friday!

Happy Happy Bday McKayz and really hope DS ok.

Tea can I just say I have so much admiration for how you are coping in hospital and with CS news.....I would be freaking out at the thought if a nice in hospital. You are def staying put but I'm so impressed at how you're coping Thanks

Sorry cant respond to everyone as I just can't remember who said what! Sorry to all those still in the insomnia club, must admit I feel a bit better after the weekend...just can't do 5 days of work anymore! Was so tired and hormonal on Friday night that I just sat and cried for no apparent reason!

I had a good weekend. Went shopping with mum on Sat and got loads of baby and hospital bag things. It's so nice being with someone who knows what to buy rather than DH and I standing starting at the stuff blankly!

Then had FIL's 80th on Sunday which was actually really nice.

My poor little dog is still not well...upset stomach and a swollen face as of yesterday. Took her to the vet this morning and poor wee mite has a bee sting inside her cheek. Also a bacteria infection...vet gave her an injection but told me I should be really careful to wash hands and not clean up her poop because I'm pregnant....bit late for that advice! Hope everything ok and I don't pick it up!

5 weeks left of work....roll on! So jealous of all you ladies off work already Envy

I have to say though I'm very lucky not to have to prepare meals etc. DH is a fab cook and does all the cooking in our house so I never have to worry about what we will eat. He's even been planning what to make for LO once they are on solids! :) I just put my feet up and wait to be called to the table!

Kveta · 23/04/2012 12:10

Tea hope your BHs are just that - I'd mention it to a midwife if they are getting more regular.

McKayz how shit :( hope you have a good birthday regardless! and I suppose it's good to get the chicken pox out of the way now, before baby?

absolutely knackered here - no sleep at all last night, I am burning up all the time, feel like a furnace, and have been having bad morning sickness again. Chucking up bile 1st thing in the morning is no fun...

and DS was very helpful this morning Hmm he filled his nappy, then whipped it off to show me (um, thanks for that DS), spraying poo round his room. So I was crawling round with baby wipes stuffed up my nose so I couldn't smell anything, clearing up the splatter, and wretching every few seconds. sigh. luckily it wasn't too runny I suppose.

1 month and 1 week left at work. or, really, 1 month, as doubt I'll make it that last week. not long now.

if anyone wanted to join the FB group but hasn't yet, please send me a message on here and I'll add you :) it's a secret group now, so only those in it can see it.

hope y'all have a good monday!

afternoon all. hope you had a good weekend, sounds like some of you managed to get some more rest. I'm sleeping a bit better at the moment, long may it continue.

mckayz happy birthday. wish I was 26 again, thanks for reminding me that next month I'll be much closer to 40 than 30! (I'm 36, so 10 years ahead of you) Sorry to hear about the potential pox situation though, not what you want to deal with on your birthday.

Nothing to report, apart from I can say that painting walls and being up and down a ladder at 7 months pregnant isn't advisable. Had to work at home today due to managing to put out my back and pelvis. Hopefully a bit of rest and no driving will settle it back down

AmethystMoon · 23/04/2012 13:58

Hi all

Happy birthday McKayz - I've covered all bases now as I put a message on facebook for you earlier! If you want to see chicken pox in all its glory, so you can compare to your DS, send me a friend request on facebook and then take a look at my photos - there are loads of my god daughter and god son who've had it over the last few weeks!

You have my sympathies ffnorm I have been to a hen night and a wedding since being pregnant...the wedding was lovely and easier as lots of mums there and small children/babies to fuss over but the hen night just wasn't quite right. I made my excuses after the meal (I suppose we at least had food) and left them to go on drinking the night away. Your stash of clothes from your friend sound lovely, am very Envy

Thanks for the advice on washing new clothes kveta, its good to know from someone who has been there Grin Also, are you sure you're not ill rather than morning sickness...just wondering as you are burning up too :( Please look after yourself. It must be horrid as I know you're not sleeping either...and your DS's nappy this morning can't have helped. Good job he's such a comical little fellow at other times I guess, must make it a little easier to forvive the poo shower in his room?

Tea firstly here are some Thanks to brighten your hospital room. I've not found BH that painful, a bit of an odd sensation and they can make me have to stop and catch my breath. I agree with Kveta that you should def mention to the MW how regular you're getting them...just to be sure.

Warlin it sounds like you had a great shopping trip on Saturday...I'm still picking its up for my hospital bag, but I really need to get a grip and get it properly sorted. Sorry to hear about your poor dog, its little face must be sore :( Bit too late for me with regards to picking up dog poo too... I thought it was just cat poo we needed to avoid?! Confused

Gwennie I'm with you on the wishing away time. I am really fed up with work and want to fast forward 6 weeks please Grin I want to meet my baby! I am so looking forward to maternity leave just before baby is born, I just need to have the time to sort all the clothes and bit and nursery out.

I have just spend the best part of 4 hours between the doctors and pharmacist trying to obtain a pair of compression stockings (nice!) as prescribed by my consultant last week. The ones he prescribed were too tight and I couldn't physically get them on, so the hospital told me to go to my GP to get a presecription for lighter weight ones. The doctor (not my normal one thankfully) was useless, I explained what I needed and she just looked blank. Then she looked through some books, then flicked through her PC at some screens, then mumbled about not really knowing what I was on about. Then went to talk to another GP, then came back had another look through her book, then said she'd hand write the prescription as she couldn't find them on the system. I thanked her and went over to the Pharmacy, waited 15 mins, then they called me up to say they couldn't precribe me anything as the precription lacked so much detail (measurements, colour, grade etc). So I went back to my doctor, they couldn't fit me in for ages to be measured, so I waited to see the nurse, eventually she saw me and said she needed to speak to the GP again as it was so unclear from the prescription. After much waiting they decided I needed to rest with my legs up to let the swelling go down before they could measure me. Then they were debating whether I needed to have a scan on my legs to measure blood flow - the doctor then sad I had had that test (I haven't....and said so!) After much measuring and waiting I eventually got a prescription, took it back to the pharmacy...who were out of stock...they're now on order! Arghhhhh!!! off for a Brew and ponder how I am going to fit my whole days work into an afternoon Sad...ha ha..getting off here would help! Grin

AmethystMoon · 23/04/2012 14:02

Gosh, sorry for all the typos...I really need that Brew!

SpecialJK · 23/04/2012 15:47

amythyst you reminded me of what I wanted to put up

On the subject of washing the baby clothes, someone suggested to me for the new stuff you've bought, no wash all of it before LO arrives. either only open some, or just use the 2nd hand stuff first. That's because maybe LO will come out and be too big for the newborn and go straight to 0-3 months etc. Then you won't be able to take the stuff back and exchange it. I hear that most shops are ok with swapping stuff as they're used to babies coming out bigger/smaller than planned

smallwonder · 23/04/2012 15:49

Left hand Typer here so sorry for any mistakes happy birthday KayZr and sorry to hear about ds! I can only say at least it's now and not later - my 3 had them all at same time not long ago and despite the disruption was glad it wasn't later. hopefully if u can't get out u can hv quiet meal at home or something sending u Biscuit and Flowers

In hospital having the iron stuff - after attempt 10000000 we found a vein and I stopped crying BlushBlushBlush

Will post when sat at home but really wanted to say above to kaz Smile

Warlin · 23/04/2012 15:59

Monday almost over and has gone surprisingly quickly.....23 working days left. Roll on!

Amethyst I'm with you, just want to meet my LO now...had enough of this pregnancy lark! And roll on the time off beforehand. On the dog poo front, I think it's only because my poor pooch has a bacterial infection...I think dog poo is generally fine (assuming hands are washed of course!!)

ceeej · 23/04/2012 18:20

Back from Skye and just about caught up, you've been a busy bunch though sorry to hear that the insomnia club is gaining members by the day.

Washing advice is very handy, you ladies have thought of so many things I hadn't even considered yet! Have to admit that DH tends to be the one who remembers things like washing new clothes, I'm always too excited about wearing them to bother. One of my brothers is also allergic to bio so it makes sense to switch to non-bio just in case. Is fabric conditioner OK for baby skin? I didn't used to use it until I moved to London but now tend to throw it in with most washes.

tea sorry to hear you're still in hospital, well done for being such a trooper, you seem to be coping amazingly well with everything this pregnancy has thrown at you.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY McKayz though gutted about the pox, hope it clears up quickly and you get a rescheduled celebratory meal.

small eurgh to failure to find a vein, not surprised you cried its soooo horrible to have someone stabbing at you for ages, fingers crossed the iron works quickly and has you feeling better soon.

Amethyst your morning with the doctor/pharmacist sounds like a right farce, hope you finally end up with some stockings you can get on.

kveta you made me laugh and cringe in equal measure with the poo shower story, have a Brew and do make sure you look after yourself if you're feeling rotten.

Having been thanking my lucky stars that so far this pregnancy thing hadn't been too bad so far, everything hit me like a tonne of bricks last week. Suddenly even the shortest walk leaves me needing a nap and I can't get comfortable when sleeping or sitting or standing, just get different kinds of discomfort. Morning nausea has come back, along with being ravenously hungry most of the time and suffering heartburn if I eat more than a tiny portion of anything. I've also started having hot flushes and had some sneeze induced pelvic floor failures which is all a bit of a shock. I feel terrible about moaning because some of you have had to deal with these things and worse all the way through but I'm struggling to deal with not being able to do all the things I'd planned to do in the day.

On the positive side it will all be over in 9 weeks 3 days maximum (although of course then we get a whole new bunch of discomforts to deal with!). We also got to see LO again this morning at 32 week scan and all seems fine, she weighs in at 4lb 2oz which is apparently fine for that age (they won't do final weight predictions where I get scanned as they say it's horribly inaccurate) and is already head down so just need her to stay there now.

Seem to have written a bit of an epic there. Hope everyone is having a good Monday and that the days are passing speedily for those counting down to their maternity leave.

gwenniebee · 23/04/2012 18:21

1 down 29 to go on the working days front! Woo hoo! Except that I am shattered and all I've done is sit in meetings all day :( What's it going to be like when the kids come back??

Thanks to the various lovely ladies for the advice re washing clothes. I have bought so few new ones I think I will wash them all - only got about six sleepsuits new and only about three of those for newborn so if baby is bigger then I'm sure someone in my NCT class will take them off my hands! I can put that on the list of things to do when I'm on mat leave :)

Kveta I'd like to join the FB group :) What do I need to do? Is there an initiation?!

Amethyst your GP story sounds like a comedy of errors. Without too much of the comedy part. What a omnishambles!!

rhibutterfly · 23/04/2012 18:38

mckayz :( about not inducing and happy birthday Thanks

rhibutterfly · 23/04/2012 18:40

sorry myckayz posted before i saw about poor DS2 hope you get to celebrate soon xx

Kveta · 23/04/2012 19:30

thanks Amethyst and others - it's def pregnancy related grimness, not any ill health, the burning up happened last pg too, and it's most assuredly just morning sickness. deep sigh.

am so ready for bed already, and DH isn't even home from work, not sure he'll make it home to a wife who's awake tbh!

Just popping in to say I do always wash the new baby clothes in fairy non bio and fairy conditioner and its been fine on my little ones.

Sorry to hear so many of us are feeling poorly, I don't actually get sick but I seem to gag every morning which is unpleasant. Think its all linked back to my overproduction of saliva which is still awful most of the time.

Put my sweet peas in on Sunday and don't think I did my back any favours - feel like such a geriatric (def in the closer to 40 group), hopefully a good nights sleep will cure it.

surfmama · 24/04/2012 00:32

evening ladies blimey, dog poo, ladders and painting, all day meetings we do all keep ourselves busy. i wonder what things wld have been like in olden times, if we would be able to rest and ponder? cathfin - me too. much hoeing and weeding and this morning i felt as though my hip was about to dislocate - fuck! that was horrid. still it didn't, better get stretching. amethyst can you get anyone to give you a really gentle leg massage? i am drooling at the thought of that now... are you doing nct? we may be in same class? everyone at st richards has been so nice during my many visits, must book a look around and yes fingers crossed we both get to waddle into the water.

someone told me i look pregnant from behind as i have that walk, yes it is a waddle, feel massive at the mo keep looking in mirror thinking god is that me??!! kveta hope you feel a bit better soon, does anything help?
typing on lappie so have managed more than on silly phone! hope we all have good night, tea hope alls well. oh just told me surfs up tomorrow - not sure why as have a ton of work on and a massive belly preventing walking, sleeping, and general energy, non ability to lie in anyway even in bed, let alone on a surf board...must change my name!

surfmama · 24/04/2012 00:33

wow - learnt to do bold tonight too!

smallwonder · 24/04/2012 04:51

(bold on phone takes ages sorry)
Surf mama -- another post that made me giggle, lol at name change and looking in mirror 'who the hell is that?' Grin did that yesterday too. My DC drew pictures of us playing altogether in a park and mummy was the fat one Angry and they were all
Squealing 'fat one, fat one going to get fatter and burst and baby will fly out ha ha' cue much pre school chuckling and rolling on floor!

Ceej - I hope u had a good time. You sound upbeat and positive despite discomforts, that's the spirit, I could do with some of that Smile

Gwennie - cant scroll back to your post but remember your mentioning tomatoes come June Grin another giggle had here.

Want to post more but can't see who to remind myself posted what Blush

Don't think I can do the infusions anymore -- cried like a baby, veins were either collapsing or just refusing to show and the damn cannula stung. They weren't even able to take blood to check ferritin levels either. Already fretting over tomorrows session.

Now, do I try to sleep in the comfy sit up position as baby is not tolerating anything else or give up and retreat downstairs red eyed and knackered?

Kveta, hope u got some sleep. How's Ds Kayzr? Hi to Warlin, special, mini, cath, tea, amythest ..... Everyone else on thread

CathFin · 24/04/2012 07:09

small - sounds grim, another thing that you don't want to be doing seeing as being pregnant is not much fun anyway.

Think I'm going to be eating my dinner a lot earlier - seems to help with the heartburn, or has for the last 2 nights.

Have send DD and DH on holiday and kept DS at home with me. They have only gone to DH's parents in Ireland and I think I made the right choice to stay home as I was flipping exhausted after only having to do packing for DD!!

Also took DD to her ballet class yesterday afternoon and let DS do the class too - am I starting something I will regret?? They only run around and play really, practice skipping etc so its not as if he's wearing a tutu! He loved it!

Tea - hope you are still ok!

Surf - I only did about half an hour of gardening, seems like a lot of pain for so little result!

Warlin · 24/04/2012 10:35

Hi Everyone

ceej I'm with you on the sneeze induced pelvic floor accidents...:( I've had to change underwear on several occassions...not helped by the fact I've had the cold and a bad cough. I now have to stop in the street and cross my legs when I sneeze or cough! I thought that was for after pregnancy Confused. need to be more rigid on the pelvic floor exercises.

Have had a stressful morning so far...was leaving the bin out and the dog got out...she normally wouldn't go anywhere but she must have smelt a rabbit and darted off. I was already late for work and ended up running up the street in my slippers, holding my boobs (these maternity bras have no support!!!), trying to hold up my falling down trousers and looking like a total idiot as all out neighbours left for work Blush. And now I'm exhausted!

Can't believe it's only Tuesday and I have to travel down to Dublin tomorrow to give a presentation :( On the positive side we have a scan tomorrow night and I can't wait to see LO and see what weight he is now.

Sorry to those still not sleeping. I am sleeping a bit better but having crazy dreams, many of which involve baby being here..

Hats off to all those with DC.....I can barely look after myself these days, let alone young kids.

McKayzr hope the chicken pox are healing.

Tea any more bleeding?

On the baby clothes front, I'm a first timer so have no advice (or clue). Am just amazed at how organised all you ladies are!

Kveta · 24/04/2012 11:55

hey all, not long to go until this thread is full now - we sure can chatter!

surfmama I think in 'ye olden days', rich women could lie around all day fanning themselves, but plebs had to just get on with it. And normally, plebs had fewer kids than the wealthy, as they breastfed, and so had natural spacing between children, whereas the wealthy hired wet nurses, and the women were essentially brood mares for the next generation. Hence why so many rich women died in childbirth - they were quite literally worn out! (I am not a historian btw, but am sure I read this in a book called 'Dream Babies' about the history of child raising. worth a read if you see it in the library!).

small hope you got some sleep! I managed about 3 hours last night, so am slightly less ratty today. DS was in our bed from 4 though, and just would not go back to sleep, he was crying for milk, and we think he's going through a growth spurt, as he's eating us out of house and home these past few days!

rhi I think regarding induction/big babies, they do induce diabetic mothers in case of big babies, due to other complications that can arise due to the diabetes. However, if no history/evidence of diabetes, you're on your own, and baby will come when baby comes! my wee sister (her of the maggots) had her DS at 34+5 last year, due to induction following diabetic complications - he was 6lb 12oz at birth! pretty enormous for his gestation! I'm still not sure what they class as big though, as DS was on the 75th centile at birth, was born at 41 weeks, and still I get sharp intakes of breath every time I mention his birth weight (8lb 15.5oz) to a HCP. Am hoping this baby is a decent size though, despite all the tearing etc, as I would be worried about breaking a wee tiny newborn - DS was pretty robust at birth, and has been ever since :o

cath we were thinking of ballet lessons for DS, it has so many positives - mainly being indoors. A former colleague of mine told me to avoid football/rugby for kids, as she is already sick to the back teeth of freezing wet saturday mornings sat by the pitch :o I think DS would enjoy ballet too, he does mince around the house quite a lot already, so would just need music to mince to :o

amethyst what a palaver! you do wonder how some folk manage to qualify as doctors sometimes, when they have clearly never met a real life person before they start work. hope today is better for you!

tea any news?

Warlin not long now at work, can you try and take the odd day off here and there before your mat leave? totally worth taking time off before baby arrives so you can have a breather, especially with your first. you won't get this time again, sadly! I didn't take this advice last time btw, and do regret it a bit now, as I've not had a day to myself in nearly 3 years now. it would be so lovely just to slob around the house doing nothing for a day or two, but not possible with a toddler in tow!

right, better do some work. just had a paper accepted that has been out for review FOREVER, so am feeling slightly chuffed, but it is spurring me on to finish the draft manuscript I'm avoiding right now!

hope the weather isn't as shite where you all are as it is here. miserable day, no matter how much we need it, I'd love a wee bit of respite from the rain!

OP posts:
Warlin · 24/04/2012 14:19

kveta I'm going to work from home on Thursday and then do one day a week at home for the last 4 weeks. I have so much work to do, yet no motivation to do anything (other than MN, FB or shop for baby things online).

I will hopefully have 2.5 weeks off before LO arrives. I would love to have longer but I haven't been here long enough for company mat leave so need to save holidays as much as possible.

It does an impossible task at the minute though...physically and mentally!

TeaandHobnobs · 24/04/2012 14:59

Hi all

Warlin naughty dog making you run down the street like that! I swear pets just know when it is the MOST inconvenient to do something like that.

CathFin and Kveta I think it's great you are thinking of getting your DSs into ballet! I would be so pleased if my little boy wanted to do ballet, as it was a big passion of mine until I went to Uni (and still is, as a spectator). DH thinks BabyTea should do football / rugby Hmm even though neither of us are remotely interested in sport (and the idea of rainy Saturday mornings on the touchline fills me with dread), and DH isn't normally so close-minded about such things...

And yay for the paper being accepted Kveta!

To update you on the latest fun in the world of teaandhobnobs:

So, there has been no significant bleeding since last Tuesday (those pombears WERE magic, Kveta!), only a small amount on Thursday, and since then it has just been bloody discharge. Great, I thought. But now it turns out the cramps that started at 4am yesterday are in fact contractions, they have been every 10 mins without fail, they hurt and the painkillers are doing nothing Sad. And to top it all off, today they have spotted sugar in my urine, and a pinprick test shows my blood sugar level is high Angry. and my temperature is up too.

I've had enough. I want this baby out. NOW!

McKayz · 24/04/2012 15:24

Oh Tea that is such horrid news. Have they told you what is going to happen next?

Do you want or need anything I can post you? Xx
