Need. Sleep. Will try some more camomile have a feeling it's going to be another one of those bath at 3am nights...

Hope all you ladies are having much more restful nights than I am!

smallwonder · 21/04/2012 11:39

Hi Blondie, I went to bed at 1:30 surrounded by pillows and slept till 3:30 upright until nature called, then managed another 2 hour stint. Hope u got some sleep!!!!

Have had the blasted cannula put in and thought all was well until almost passing out, puking and having to be wheelchaired to the room I'm now in. Now in room having baby monitored Smile only 3 more times of doing this aghhhhh!

Hope u all having good weekends -- what's everyone up to?
Just saw lovely newborn awwwww Bear

rhibutterfly · 21/04/2012 11:52

to hear about all those in hospital hope everything goes ok and your all home soon, i've had insomnia forever keep blaming the SPD but it's the wee a lot too, everything seems to be happening a lot earlier this time round.
Off to see consultant friday as LO measuring 3 weeks ahead of my dates and the midwife said LO has a big head the poor thing, my first DD is only and has to wear adult size helmets so not too worried, although i did end up tearing so pretty much expecting it again this time, bonus to all this is i'm hoping they may decide to induce me early if the baby big, is this normal practice?

gwenniebee · 21/04/2012 11:56

Morning everyone :) I'm back from my hols :(

Good to catch up with everyone's news...
Tea - makes you feel like the left hand knows exactly what the right is doing and they're all singing from the same hymnsheet (and any other metaphor you'd care to throw at it...), doesn't it..? Hmmmm... Hmm

Special- hope you and your DH can organise things the way you'd like them. Your last update sounded more positive. I can't imagine what it's like when it's your husband preparing to go out there... my brother is in LKG at the moment and that's bad enough but I wasn't exactly relying on his moral support!

DH and I had a lovely drought ridden very wet time on the south coast! Except, we are used to quite active holidays and although we toned things down significantly, I was exhausted and in quite a lot of pain by yesterday :( This time last year I'd have thought nothing of jumping on a bike and cycling a hundred miles, this year it appears a gentle 4.5 mile stroll across some flat fields is enough to render me tearful.... definitely made me think I've got to the stage where pregnancy is not comfortable. I also am preparing my bid for membership of insomniacs anonymous! Grr...

My boobs have started leaking Blush. Being a first timer I was aware this would probably happen, but I have found it strangely disconcerting and upsetting! Prob just hormones.... (upsetting me, I mean. Obvioulsy it's hormones causing the leaking...) I fully intend to bf etc so I am a bit surprised by my reaction! DH is lovely about it and keeps telling me it's perfectly natural but I feel very coy about it Confused.

Must get on with some marking I've been putting of for three weeks. Well done me......

Hope everybody has lovely/bleed free/stress free weekends :)

rhibutterfly · 21/04/2012 11:56

missed [sorry] at beginning, this computer being a nightmare lately, and i have zero patiance these days

10000fireflies · 21/04/2012 18:14

Hope you?ve all had good Saturdays. The 3am insomnia thing is a pain. Wonder what brings it on? It?s not needing to pee, that?s for sure, well, with me anyway. It?s ok when I can get back to sleep, but can?t stand being awake for hours at that time. Is it to get us in training for when they?re born? My Mum says, 'oh, that?ll be the LO waking you up for the 3am feed'.

small glad your MW set your mind at rest. Doesn?t sound so good all round though, so no wonder you were feeling rough.

Tea you have plenty to deal with, and no, you don?t sound like a control freak. Better to be informed and in control.

rhibutterfly when would they induce you?

I am about to have a long soak in a lovely oily, rose scented bath. Nice and relaxing, and hopefully the oil will prevent stretch marks, and soothe achey back. Have no idea whether I am getting stretch marks. Trying not to look much at anywhere chest down!! Not too pretty these days!!

Spent Thursday checking out flooring and prams. Still haven?t made mind up on pram. Figure still have some time left yet!! Have most of the rest. We got a BabyBay bedside cot (£100 cheaper direct from manufacturer in Germany vs NCT), which is really lovely. Looking forward to having baby next to me in bed.Smile

Had first NCT class yesterday. Was fairly , and really, I didn?t want to have to spend ages considering what life will be like with a newborn yet. Fancy getting through the last few weeks of pregnancy and birth first!! Still, nice ladies in group, and not too many of us, so think there is a good chance of some socialising. Will be interesting to see what the group is like when our other halves join in.

Waves to everyone else, especially those of you having a particularly bad time. Hopefully everyone with insomnia club membership doesn?t have a permanent pass!! Enjoy the rest of your weekends. FF xx

Kveta · 21/04/2012 18:40

hi all, bad night here again last night too. oh well, only 6 -8 weeks to go have stopped checking my phone during the night to help me get back to sleep, because it keeps me up reading MN :o

we went to a stately home today (Wimpole Hall) which was lovely, but am so sore now. DS was very taken with the sow suckling her piglets and hasn't shut up about pig mummy milk since, but he also loved the tractors and the many clocks in the big house. I am so so sore this evening though, too much walking! DH and I just realised we have been home owners for a year today, only 24 years left on the mortgage! it feels scarily grown up :o

Gwennie don't be Blush about the colostrum, it's all good stuff. It's a bit freaky the first time you notice it, but think of it as a good thing, and proof your body is ready to be a mum! I've been leaking for a while this time (just after showers, luckily), but last pg started at 16 weeks, it was so bizarre!

I'm busy looking for a cot for baby, but have just found the complete River Cottage Handbook collection half price on the Guardian website, so am plotting them instead of a cot. I'm such a dedicated mother :o is anyone here in the CM postcode area btw? there's a new selling site on fb for second hand baby stuff, and it's excellent. let me know if any of you would be interested in joining the group and I can send you the link :)

hope everyone has a good rest of the weekend, I'm taking it easy, with the help of a packet of chocolate digestives!

TeaandHobnobs · 21/04/2012 21:27

fireflies hope you had a lovely bath Smile. My stretch marks are appearing now too, but only in places I can't see them! One of the med students actually pointed them out (using the technical term, which I've forgotten) when they were playing poke-teaandhobnobs earlier in the week Hmm

Kveta sorry you are feeling knackered / achey, but a day at Wimpole Hall does sound lovely. We often made a pit stop there to eat a picnic lunch on our way up to Cambridge, but I've never been in the house.

smallwonder hope you have perked up again now?

gwennie sounds like a lovely holiday, but I know what you mean about feeling frustrated that you can't walk as far / do the stuff you are used to. I'm looking forward to getting back to being active once LO is here, and getting him lots of fresh air in the process (is that the pipe dream of an idealistic first-timer? Confused)

Well it's been another bleed-free night and day! And DH and I had our first hypnobirthing class today (handily being held one floor up in the hospital) which (a) was a great way if escaping the ward for a day, and (b) was really enjoyable! Even skeptic-DH enjoyed it! It was at all hippyish as we had feared, and the lady running it is a midwife so had lots of general birth advice alongside the hypnobirthing element. We talked about my bleeding and she seemed to think a normal delivery would still be possible, but would probably need to be in the hospital birth centre (not MLU) as they may need to be prepared for serious blood loss. So that feels good to know a c-section isn't a foregone conclusion, even though I'd be happy to go with that if it were the safest option. She also said my link consultant (who I am yet to meet) is pro-hypnobirthing, which is good.

Did anyone else watch the Voice tonight? It is freaking AWESOME!!!! Shock

DH has gone to our friends' for dinner this evening, and gets to play with their 4-month old Envy

surfmama · 22/04/2012 07:54

morning... ouch. hips killing this morning. had reflexology on friday and slept like me pre passenger all night no wee no paintill 730. if only i could have it every day!

Well tea hoping you had a good night and small that sounds horrid i don't think you should worry for a minute about checking yourself out.

amethyst yes st richards for me, is it the same for you? well they did internal, said oh yes there is watery stuff not sure if waters come back in morning for scan.... So did and at least waters around baby are fine. bloods a little out with raised white blood cells but they just said come back if you get anymore... Well i will i told them, this is what i a getting! discharge and then a watery patch that can go through to leggings so unless they want m there 10 times a day i had to look for something else. spent fifty quid on amniosence pads that detect amniotic fluid! was at a complete loss to be honest as they didnt have a test at hosi to say either way. tried one pad so far and it was clear so fingers crossed its just very watery discharge...

Oh my cant wait to have a baby but even with aches pains and worries will miss my passenger! hope you all slept well x

McKayz · 22/04/2012 08:26

Morning,

Tea I hope you had a good night last night.

Gwen Glad you had a good holiday. I have just started leaking too. It has never happened before. I didn't leak until after they were born, so finding it a little strange.

Kveta I do that too. I look at the time on my phone and then check what junk emails I have, then check in on MN, it can't help really.

It is my birthday tomorrow and I think I might see if I can stay in bed all day! I have just realised that as I am 26 tomorrow I am closer to 30 than 20 now! I feel old!!

Hope you all have lovely relaxing Sundays.

AmethystMoon · 22/04/2012 14:39

Hi all
surfmama yes st. Richards for me too Smile might see you in there! Those amniosence pads sound very clever, I'd never heard of them. Fingers crossed you'll continue to get the all clear. It must be worrying though Sad I hoping to use one of the birthing pools at st. Richards I know it might not work put that way but fingers crossed. The rooms there are lovely, really relaxing and no beds Grin I really don't want to end up flat on my back in labour. I went to an ante natal physio class there last week which was quite good, tried showing DP some labour positions when I came home but had forgotten most of them....damn baby brain.

Hope you're having a good day tea, glad you had a nice time at your hypno birthing class Smile

No sign of leaky nipples here yet...almost a bit jealous Envy although I am sure it is far less hassle if they're not leaking Grin

Had all day NCT yesterday, I quite enjoyed it. It was nice to have a bit longer to get to know the others. I was surprisingly tired afterwards... All that concentrating I think Smile

ChateauMargot · 22/04/2012 16:38

blondiedollface I was up at 3am last night and ended up running a bath, too! Though for different reasons than you - at 1.30 and then again at 2.30 I had some quite surprising stomach cramps, bump went very hard and I was really struggling to get comfortable. Pain in hip (sciatica?) not helping, either, as it made it impossible to find a position that accomodated both the painful bump and the painful hip/legs.

Finally discovered that standing up and walking around for a bit helped, as did the bath.

Has anyone else had this? The pains were like stomach cramps, reasonably high up and hard to breathe (inhale) through. I thought perhaps they might be Braxton Hicks?..

Anyway, baby was kicking in the bath and again this morning, with no more pain, so am hoping it wasn't anything serious... ?? Confused

gwenniebee · 22/04/2012 18:46

Hello everyone, hope you've all had good weekends. We have been sorting some things in the garden and trying to get some order back in the house after the redecorating/re-purposing (there's no way that's a word!) of the spare room. We now have new flowers ready to take over when the bulbs have finally gone and, most excitingly, I have a new tomato greenhouse complete with three little tomato plants. (Because I thought I'd probably have nothing better to do come June than tend plants....)

Very annoyingly I worked out today that I have six weeks left before maternity leave, not five, as I had thought. :( Five seemed like five too many :(

ChateauMargot I have been having Branston Pickle Braxton Hicks for quite a while now but mine have tended to be lower down and the pain/discomfort has coincided with my tummy feeling noticeably harder. They're getting more frequent and more like pain than discomfort too... While I've been off school the last few weeks I have been able to shout out "Branston Pickle! Floppy....." as I practise being relaxed for the real deal. Won't be able to do that in my classroom tomorrow, will I..? Confused

Are you lovely ladies washing new clothes you buy for your babies? I have washed the ones I've bought from NCT sales but I have some new new ones and I was about to put them in the washing machine this afternoon when I wondered if it was really a bit OTT?! What are other people doing?

TeaandHobnobs · 22/04/2012 19:16

Yes, I was wondering about washing "new" clothes too gwennie...

AmethystMoon · 22/04/2012 19:25

chateau that sounds similar to what I have and MW said Braxton Hicks. They do vary from v mild to ones that take my breath away!

gwen and tea me too! I have washed all the second hand bits but have read we should wash new things too. In non bio washing powder/liquid. Thing is as DP is convinced our girl is a boy he wants to leave the labels on everything so they're easier to sell should his hunch be correct Grin so I think we'll use second hand and neutral bits until we know then he can do all the washing when we get home if it is a girl Wink
Hope you've all had good weekends, I've been madly cleaning all day ( behind the cooker, fridge, freezer and washing machine too Shock My mum is convinced this means I am about a week from giving birth...... I hope not, bit soon!!

Kveta · 22/04/2012 19:33

I wash new clothes for the first few months (so up to 3 months in age). Partly because it's something to do in the last few interminable weeks, partly because they looks very cute on the drying rack, and partly because new clothes may have chemical irritants in them which are fine on more hardened skin, but may irritate skin that is experiencing the world for the first time! I always use non-bio powder anyway (as I am allergic to bio) but think non-bio is recommended for newborn skin.

Chateau I have had some painful BHs too, not sure why as had none at all last time. had some yesterday morning that required a lot of walking around to make them bearable, was almost crying at one point. Then they just stopped and baby got kicking again Confused

We have FINALLY ordered a cot, so hope it will be delivered this week. DH and I keep on realising we only have 6-8 weeks left as a family of 3, it's quite frightening how fast it's gone. And how slow each individual day goes...

I am getting more and more exhausted now too, I was gardening today and after an hour had to sit down before I keeled over! Luckily I haven't got masses to do now except maintain the plants I've got (and hope there are no more frosts this spring!). Gwennie I am the same, planting a veg plot and thinking I'll have time to look after it over the summer!!! Poor DH just knows he will be the one doing the watering every evening :o although it's forecast to rain for much of May, so maybe we'll have another washout of a summer, and watering plants will be less of a priority than saving them from drowning.

Tea Wimpole Hall is nice, the home farm is great for little kids too. Shame the weather is so unpredictable just now, and I'm so knackered, otherwise we'd have spent the whole day in the farm I think! hope the bleeding remains nonexistant.

McKayz happy birthday tomorrow - 26 is so youthful still! And think what you've achieved in 26 years - a lovely husband, 2 lovely boys and another baby cooking - not bad!

work tomorrow, yawn. Meeting a friend for lunch with her 4 month old DD though, can't wait to see them both!

have a lovely sunday evening all!

OP posts:
blondiedollface · 22/04/2012 19:47

Chateau Sorry to hear about your bad nights sleep - same for me bump pain and SPD together just make it too much! Baths and standing rocking from side-to-side have been my saving grace.. My BH seem to be all over tbh sometimes higher, sometimes lower.

McKayz Enjoy your birthday tomorrow!!

Gwennie Happy holidays! Lovely to hear you had such a nice time :) I have washed everything regardless of second hand or new bought from the shop - just because I've got such sensitive skin if the LO does too I want to be putting the softest kindest things next to their skin!

ChateauMargot · 22/04/2012 19:51

Thanks for the reassurance, gwennie, Amethyst and Kveta.

Branston Pickle Grin

blondiedollface · 22/04/2012 20:02

Tea Hope you've been bleed free - do let us know if you get to go home tomorrow! I have a postcard here waiting and thought it best to wait and see if they let you home tomorrow (everything crossed for you) before sending Grin

Amethyst You and me both! I've washed/dried/ironed/vacuumed/scrubbed my little heart out this weekend, no idea why, just felt the need to get everything beyond clean Hmm

Kveta It does seem as though the last 32 weeks have FLOWN but each day seems to drag.. How is that? Enjoy seeing your friend and her DD :)

Hope everyone else has had a lovely weekend and sleeps well tonight!

rhibutterfly · 22/04/2012 20:32

fireflies have no idea if they will but a few mums i've spoke to said they were induced a week- 2 weeks early with large babies,my poor friend had a terrible time with her first his shoulders got stuck and she ended up having ECS he was 9lb 4 oz and no one mentioned she'd be having a big baby and she is 6ft and big boned so if they mention 9lber i'll be terrified because i really really don't like the thought of a section

ffnorm · 22/04/2012 22:03

A quick pre sleep hello.

Tea hope things are ok with you!!

Went to my friends hen do last night - have to say,not that scintillating to be stone cold sober in a pub on a Sat night...was it always like that???? And there was no food Shock

Received a whole lot of hand me downs from a friend - so overwhelmed, had no idea she was going to give me so many gorgeous clothes (mostly Pumpkin patch and Osh kosh - she's Australian living in UK and Gap/M&s/next)

Have a good week all!!!

McKayz · 22/04/2012 22:33

Rhi I am measuring 3 weeks ahead too. But a growth scan puts baby roughly 6 days ahead. MW said that they don't like to induce big babies anymore. I'm not sure why not though.

TeaandHobnobs · 23/04/2012 07:11

Happy Birthday McKayz!!! hope you have a lovely day Thanks

How painful are people finding Braxton Hicks? I had been having some which didn't really hurt at all - more just a sensation - but for the last 2 or 3 hours I've been having rather unpleasant ones (like a nasty period cramp lasting about 15 secs), and they seem almost regular (about one every 10 mins). Have just had some paracetamol, so will see if that helps. I think I am reading too much into it Grin

McKayz · 23/04/2012 07:53

Happy bloody birthday to me!!
Ds2 has got up covered in spots. I don't know what chicken pox really looks like but that's what we are thinking it is. So looks like meal etc will have to be canceled. Sad

gwenniebee · 23/04/2012 08:02

Oh McKayz that's too rubbish for words! Hope you manage to have a lovely day anyway.

Back to work for me... don't start til 9 today though so at least it's easing in gently! 30 working days to go........ And I don't care that I'm not supposed to wish my life away, I'm going to! Be quick, maternity leave! Hurry up and get here!

Have a good day everyone :)
