Copy/paste the list and add yourself to it.

Allyco,
That is just dreadful for your friend, to get so far through a pregnancy and then not have a baby must be almost unbearable.

I can't believe you're still at work! with sickness, rampant pain and 4 kids already! Do Mumsnet do an award for behaviour above and beyond the call of duty!! I think you should win.

I have another scan this afternoon to check the baby's growth. Quite excited though not looking forward to the traditional 2 hours wait for the clinic process as well.

allyco · 13/02/2006 13:58

pepper are they are able to tell you with any certainty how much baby will weigh when it is born? I need another scan on 6th March and am wondering whether or not to ask in case they think it's a stupid question!

Mind you I think the scan is so they can then call me into the clinic and say, ooh, we really do think you should have a C-section....

AND also found out from the childminder that her poor poor neighbour refused to give up the baby's body in the hospital and they had to inject her with something to sedate her so they could take the baby for the funeral director. She had held the baby nearly twenty hours without letting her go, or crying, or talking or anything. It doesn't bear thinking about does it. I don't think I would ever get over that.

pepperrabbit · 13/02/2006 18:32

They told me today how much it weighs at the moment from the measurements they took (2088g which is 4lb 6oz apparently) and the scan results sheet had some graphs which showed it was just above the middle percentile so in theory I guess they should be able to predict a weight if you remain constant... not sure if they'd tell you but it's well worth asking!
I have my next scan on the 6th March as well.
You know how at 12 weeks you see the whole baby on screen, and then at 20 weeks half the baby fits on one scan screen - at 32 weeks I could see just a hand at one point!

MrsEvs · 13/02/2006 20:04

I have that front of pelvis pain thing and I had it the last time, mine feels like it's right in the actual bone itself, but my doctor says it is a ligament pain. I sometimes have trouble getting dressed because I can't really stand on one leg as it hurts too much - I'm certain I'm going to keel over comedy style with my pants around my ankles one of these days

Well we had a fun weekend - 10 inches of snow!!!! DD thought it was the best thing ever, but since our power and therefore our heating was off I was not so amused. It also took dh nearly 2 hours to dig our car out of the driveway so we could go to my friends to keep warm!! Luckily they had our power back on by about 7pm so we could return home for dd's bedtime.

allyco · 14/02/2006 09:39

pepper - that's a good size, isn't it? I a interested to see how much little man will weigh when he puts in an appearance what with my constant vomiting!

MrsEvs we saw the snow in teh paper and thought it looked great but then it always does when you're just looking at it. Here today it's just dark and miserable and drizzly rain (as usual )

pepperrabbit · 14/02/2006 14:45

Allyco - just think how quickly you'll get your figure back - your weight gain can only be baby! I have categorically put on a lot more than 4lb 6 oz!!!.
MrsEvs, we looked at the snow too and thought it looked fab, DH's mum lives in New York (not sure exactly where you are ) and she was NOT looking forward to trying to get to work yesterday - she has new hips and not sure she felt they were up to it!
I've been out in the garden with DS in between the murky drizzle here and a snowball fight would have been top!
Must stop using excessive !!!! marks - sorry!

allyco · 15/02/2006 09:52

pepper you are right - although I have this huge tummy I weigh much less than I did before I was pregnant .

Am now gettng close to the time in teh last pregnancy when DD arrived so am getting stressed it'll happen again. My hospital bag is all packed and ready, just in case. My labour bag consists of a nightie, a flannel and Chapstick. My friend is due her first in a few months and she is wanting aromatherapy oils and photos to focus on and so on....I'm going minimalist!!!!1

Secreteater · 15/02/2006 14:06

Hello all
I have just added my self on, saying my finance is 31 - of course I mean my fiance!!!

as for my nickname Secreteater is not becasue I eat secrets, but becuase I've taken to secretly eating.... mostly Milky Way bars....

I have been reading this thread for a while and find it very reassuring to know other people feel equally as overwhelmed/overjoyed fed up/content as myself!! And as for all of you feeling so much movement I think mine is aiming to come out through my tummy button :-)

I have a question for the forum - what do you REALLY need in a hospital bag? I am beginning to think about getting soem of it all together....

PS my typing is terrible so please excuse all typos!

DebitheScot · 15/02/2006 15:18

I've just been home (scotland) for a few days to see best friend and parents and kept being told that my bump is 'very compact' and 'doesn't seem to have grown since Christmas' Are they all blind?! It looks and feels huge to me!
Enjoying a week off work (yes I'm a teacher with millions of holidays) and looking forward to only having 3 more weeks at work.

Haven't even thought about hospital bag.

I want snow, I love snow! Not seen much since moving to Hampshire.

DebitheScot · 15/02/2006 15:19

I've been secretly eating Pick and Mix sweets, yummy

allyco · 15/02/2006 15:31

I WANT TO EAT SWEETIES AND NOT BE SICK .

My hospital bags have got smaller the more kids I have had!! All I have this time is my nighties, slippers and robe, enormous sanitary towels, bath and hand towel, usual toiletry stuff and wipes for the disgusting hospital loos/shower. Plus three vests and babygros and six weeny nappies and cotton wool. Easy peasy.

Secreteater · 15/02/2006 15:37

Not grown since christmas? That seems unlikely... I don't know what is more frustrating - being told you don't look big/bigger when you feel huge and constantly expanding - or my situation, Every time my secretary comes in after her long weekend (she doesn't work mon/tues due to having a 1 yr old ds) she says somehting like "oh my God look at you!" - as you can imagine that's a great way to start the working day! And can i really change that much in 4 days?

Secreteater · 15/02/2006 15:39

thanks Allyco - i am writing that down as my essentials list.

MrsQ · 15/02/2006 19:22

I think Allyco has it pretty much summed up on the hospital bag. One thing I didn't have nearly enough of / the right sort of when I had DS was big pants and as you say, enormous, sanitary towels. Wasn't really prepared for the small flood that happened for the first day or so (bleeding lasted long than that but was all a bit chaotic on that first day after)- sorry if TMI. We also had food in our bag as the hospital food was yuk and the maternity unit was miles away from canteen - where DH was supposed to get everything, even cups of tea for himself (i.e. the ward tea was strictly for mums only?!?!)

Last two days at work this week, hurrah hurrah hurrah!!! Can't wait. Is ages to go yet, and last time I did get a bit bored on maternity leave, but luckily(not) this time I have a toddler to myself for 3 days a week to keep me "entertained" - really luckily, mum and dad are still happy to have DS on my normal two work days so I might get a bit of feet up time / time to get stuff ready for new arrival.

I'm assuming, since everyone's mentioned it, that we were all suitably wined (in a non-alcoholic way) and dined (in a heart burn inducing way) and romanced (in a 'yeah exactly how do whales have sex then' kind of way) last night?!??

colditz · 15/02/2006 20:42

No, wasn't wined and dined at all. He ignored Valentine's Day completely until I had a tantrum and made him apologise

Is anyone else horribly emotional? One minute I am raging, the next sobbing. It's rubbish!

I am not at work any more, and Doo-doo doo doo doooooo - I'm Lovin' It!

SecretEater, I think you need babygros that are different shapes and sizes IYSWIM. The babygros I packed for ds were a multipack, and they didn't fit. I was gutted, they were far too small!

so, If you get all your gros out and pick, say, a small, medium and large newborn size, and a 0-3 just in case, then the baby has something to wear until you can get someone to bring baby some clothes that fit. Oh, and babies often throw up brown crap after the birth, so pack a few soft absorbant bibs too, to save you having to change baby's clothes every 2 hours!

OP posts:
colditz · 15/02/2006 20:45

I am convinced these are a good idea for the first few days!

OP posts:
pepperrabbit · 15/02/2006 21:16

I want to eat sweeties, full stop! I am going to eat the most enormous easter egg after this baby arrives and sod my sugar levels.....
We ran out of cotton wool when I was in hospital with DS, though I suppose as it was our first we didn't know you were allowed to use wipes - we followed every instruction to the letter. I agree with taking some Detox wipes or similar into hospital for the loos etc.
MMmmmm Colditz - how glamorous are those pants! I'm trying not to think about that bit after but I suppose I ought to go shopping for industrial maternity pads. Actually it's best to go for the really fat ones as they provide more padding when you think you can't ever sit down again IMO!
I finish work tomorrow!!! So looking forward not to having to get the tube, no-one offered me a seat this morning and I was stood in the middle of the carriage sighing dramatically.. miserable buggers.

colditz · 15/02/2006 21:22

Glamorous - no.

Very effective - I think they would be. i am convinced, but I don't want the midwives to realise I have them on, so debating about buying a pack.

Does anyone else occasionally feel a boney bum migrating around inside them?

OP posts:
pepperrabbit · 15/02/2006 21:24

I think baby has reversed bum up into my lungs . I did feel a leg yesterday when I went to bed and it was practising the second act of Riverdance though!

spots · 15/02/2006 22:33

Boney bum, yes that's it exactly! So weird even the second time around. But what is this babies throwing up brown stuff malarkey? Sounds foul. I'm sure DD never did that... do explain colditz.

Agree Allyco's list v. sane. I wish I'd had the mindset of using some of the Lovely Things I'd packed for DD's birth. As it was they were a waste of space.

Welcome secreteater... we won't tell about the milky ways, as long as you share them with us.

I subscribe to the horribly emotional thing definitely. Am still wishing the baby's arrival wasn't so soon, to be honest - although I am looking forward to meeting it (movements sugggest marvellous sense of humour, adventure and enterprise) I would really rather not have to fit it into our house. That thought makes me weep on cue.

Got floo'ers yesterday from DH, bless him - funny how it really does make you smile even when you know it's all such an obligation.

colditz · 15/02/2006 23:43

It might only have been my ds, but the midwife did say it was quite common.

However, ds was 16 days late, and didn't show up until my waters had been gone for 42 hours, so what might have happened was, he might have pooed inside me and swallowed a bit on the way out, as he was starting to get distressed on the way out.

He threw up brown crap for about 24 hours, and went through ever single babygrow, dp was stuck 20 miles away (we don't have a car), and I felt completely inadequate, and like it would be kinder to flush ds down the loo than take him home to live with me, as I couldn't even be relied upon to provide clothes

He's fine now though

OP posts:
allyco · 16/02/2006 09:27

wot is Valentine's Day?! and why are you all giving up work?? I am jealous [envy .

I have the boney bum thing too, and I have little hard lumps that stick out at all angles which I think might be knees or elbows? Am torn between feeling so sick and wishing this was all over forever, and trying to remember everything because this is deffo the last time it will ever happen to me. D'you know what I mean? (unless you are all planning loads more babies).

When I came to work this morning I looked out of the window and there was a bloke on teh opposite carriageway DRINKING A CUP, A PROPER CHINA CUP, OF TEA at the wheel. Good grief. I thought puking into a plastic tub was odd.

colditz · 16/02/2006 09:53

I have given up work because I am a care assistant in a nursing home, and it's a job you just can't do when you're 7 months pregnant, doing shift work, with a toddler and no help at home

I Know what you mean about the "This is the last time" thing, but I am honestly not bovvered because I hate being pregnant, even though I am having quite an easy pregnancy this time round!

All the little newborn clothes make me very sad though, knowing how short a time they are wearing them.

OP posts:
allyco · 16/02/2006 10:50

blimey Colditz how do you do it (I know about the no help at home bit though).

I did read your other thread about the probs you were having at work and came to the conclusion that a lot of the people you work(ed) with must be a right bunch....
