Ok, I did it!

Now shall we get our stats down again? I think we have had some joiners since we last did it.
Copy/paste the list and add yourself to it.

Colditz - due 06/04/06, aged 25, DP aged 32, 1 DS aged 2.9, having a baby boy! Very scared of needles....

Hello everyone,
Well done Spots on your driving theory test!
I've got some time off this week and I'm supposed to be sorting through all my clothes that have accumulated in the spare room that DS needs to move into... instead I've watched Bergerac and Murder She Wrote. Mainly cos I couldn't be bothered to get off the sofa and find the remote! How lazy am I??
Failed a random blood sugar test yesterday at midwives, she came over all assertive which is most unusual (normally hard to tell if she's awake) and phoned the hospital and everything.
I now have to go to the diabetic clinic on monday - which is my birthday and monitor my sugars in the meantime.... no cake for me, sigh.
Also I've been awake since 4.22am this morning for no apparent reason...
moan whinge moan!
pepperrabbit crawls back onto sofa.

allyco · 03/02/2006 10:53

yee hah Spots! Driving is brill. I'm getting my first-ever new car as soon as it arrives from Japan. As far as I can remember it's the first-ever really new big thing I've owned .

Am still puking and am completely resigned to it now. Also having major major probs at work due to compltely unreasonable boss who apparently has depression, although we all think jhe's fallen off thwe waggon. Never mind, only another eight or so more weeks to go and then I am out of there. TBH I may not go back, I'm sure I could get a job somewhere else without the hassle.

Have midwife appointement next week and going to ask if she can tell if little man is still breech. I don't know they know which bit is which! I'm always feeling my tummy. I feel some very funny feelings very low down which I wonder if it could be little feet. I also feel a big hard lump right up high squirming around which I think is the head (although am hoping I'm wrong and it's a little bony bum).

I've a scan booked for 6th March to check c-section scar and if he is still breech. If he is, then it's another c-section, so let's hope he has/does turn!!!

tonton · 03/02/2006 11:58

no, cake, on your birthday pepperrabbit?? that's terrible! I will have some cake today and think of you.
8 more weeks of work to go! Rather wish it were less...but then again not exactly looking forward to d-day.
Busy weekend of ferrying dd and 2 friends to irish dancing class - so funny! Then getting her new car seat, then plan to go shop, shop, shopping for interior stuff. I am a spendaholic at the mo. Must stop......
Oh, am thinking of getting nude photo done of me for dh. It's a woman photographer who specialises in nice shots of preg women (not kinky!). Am I mad?

pepperrabbit · 03/02/2006 12:20

Don't think you're mad at all, some of them are really classy, the black and white ones especially - remind me of Athena posters when I were a lass. Not sure I'd wait much longer though with my bump I'd want to have it done before the streeeetch marks arrive! Actually, Dh says he can't remember what i look like nude so he'd just be pathetically grateful .
Does anyone else come over all prudish when PG or am I odd?
Still haven't sorted out my wardrobe and it's Friday afternoon - why does this always happen on my week off? overwhelming apathy for dull chores....
And I don't want to be 37, I like even numbers.

tonton · 03/02/2006 12:24

I've been very prudish, and qwuite off-sex I'm afraid. So the photo is ourely for dh as he likes my curvyness - normally a very skinny-minny. I just hate feeling so over-sinsitive and hormonal, and so just don't feel sexy. Poor dh!

pepperrabbit · 03/02/2006 12:32

Totally with you on that. Spend first trimester feeling too yuck to contemplate sex (while blaming it for feeling yuck ), and by the 2nd trimester just feel unsexy shape wise... poor DH, I told him he could have a bonk next year!

spots · 03/02/2006 13:40

I only have an hour of the evening when I'm awake and aware and I'm damned if I'm going to waste it on sex!! I've never been mad keen on bedtime shenanigans; more of a lunchtime girl myself. With dh at work it's a wonder we conceived at all (tho both were during holidays - DD was honeymoon baby! so that obviously speaks for itself).

Think you are all doing marvellously well on the home reorganization front. MrsQ, your house sounds just like ours. Allyco, can't believe your work commitment. 8 weeks seems ages to me, and with stress from boss into the bargain... Sorry, I know that's prob. not a helpful thing to say...
Pepperrabbit, bad luck about the glucose. Virtual cake here on monday!

Booked practical driving test for March. nervous already!

tonton · 03/02/2006 13:53

I am trying to work out what 'parp' means when people post it? Can anyone help?

spots · 03/02/2006 15:10

Means oh-oh, don't look now, this person ought to know they have opened a can of worms (prob. a can of worms that has been opened many times before as well). Kind of thing.

MrsEvs · 03/02/2006 22:48

I think the house hating/reorganising/general obsessing is all part of the "nesting" thing that is supposed to happen in the 3rd trimester. I know it did last time, but not until a bit later. I've just started to have twinges this time. I've been clearing out space to the new baby's clothes (not that she has any that didn't belong to dd as of yet, but I think I'm going to get a couple of things this weekend).

I am also obsessing about a bed for dd. She is only 18 months but is close to being able to get out of her cot (she jumps up, puts her tummy on the edge and hangs her head over like she is about to somersault out!), and if I have to move her I want to do it before the baby, so she doesn't feel like she's being ousted from her cot because of the new arrival. I decided on this really cute junior bed in Ikea that is bigger than a toddler bed but not quite twin size, only to discover the mattress was out of stock and would be for a month or more! So I'm now thinking I'll just get an ordinary twin bed, but can't find one I like. I'm sure if I wasn't looking for one in a hurry I'd see lots - sods law.

As for nudey pregnancy photos tonton - you're a braver woman than me!!! But seriously, I have seen some really lovely ones, I think if they are done right they can be beautiful - go for it!

I too felt very prudish during my first pregnancy it was actually quite a weird feeling I seem to remember, this time it's more like I just can't be bothered, poor dh!

Spots - my Dad is doing ever so well thanks. He is now up to going for walks around the block, and sounds more and more like his cheerful self all the time, which is great. Fingers crossed for your driving test, remind us again nearer the time.

Allyco, hope your young man has turned himself around and that your boss washes some antidpressants down with the G&T! I think you are amazing for still being at work after all you've been through during this pregnancy!

No cake on your birthday does seem very unfair pepperrabbit DH will just have to buy you and extra special present to make up for it!

MrsEvs · 04/02/2006 02:25

Had a spare few minutes and thought I'd make this look a bit prettier. Now I'm looking at it, I want to put everyone in due date order - is there anything about becoming obsessive compulsive in your 3rd trimester???!!!

colditz · 04/02/2006 21:38

Ugh, gonna have a moan.

I can't breath properly! My bump goes all tight, and makes it difficult for me to draw a full breath, it's worse after a meal, but really it's whenever my bump goes tight across the top. The only relief I havehad from it is on hands and knees.

Anyone else have this? I hate it!

And I can hardly bear to look at my house, it is such a tip but I have NO energy to get up and sort it out. Ds has been ill, so I have been up in the night every night for 2 weeks, and I am exhausted.

And my kitchen floor is a disgrace.

OP posts:
pepperrabbit · 04/02/2006 22:19

Oh Colditz, my bump does this (we call it the hard boiled egg thing - but it probably has a technical name )
I have to stick my chest out as far as it goes to be able to breathe! and it goes a lot further than it used too as well...
Haven't tried the hands and knees thing, not very pleasant at all so much sympathy but not much help - sorry!
Also may have to stop sitting on our old saggy sofa as increasingly difficult to get out again.
If I take my glasses off I can't see the mess - have you tried that

MrsEvs · 05/02/2006 15:51

I have exactly that too and hands and knees is all that works for me too. It was really scary the first time as I just didn't know what to do. I've also found that if you try abdominal breathing (you know breathing from your tummy instead of trying to inflate your chest) it passes quicker.

My kitchen floor is also absolutely disgusting and I really have to clean it because the owner of the house we rent here in the US is coming to see it today! I've been willing myself to start cleaning all morning, it's now 10 to 11 and I haven't even started - ugghhh!

tonton · 06/02/2006 12:20

I saw the photographer at the weekend and she was very nice. Plus the photos (of nudes, preg and non-preg) were beautiful. And more 'arty' than raunchy. Not that preg women ever look very raucnhy! In the shots she showed me the pregnant woman was partially coveredwith a gown of some sort. So just trying to decide if should do it (it's a lot of money).
Have decided to take half term off work. First decent break since last August. Will be nice to spend the time with dd before she becomes dd1!!!

FirstTimer40 · 06/02/2006 12:48

I think the house mess/cant stand it anymore/its got to be sorted out NOW is definitely a third trimester thing. The bedroom we are in at the moment is due to be the "nursery" and therefore we need to move out of it so I can play with all my new baby things and feel ready (ha ha )Problem is the room we are moving into is a building site - to be fair DH has made some progress recently but there is still no paint, skirting, carpet and its all brick dusty and full of tools . Every time I catch sight of it I get really cross.
Think the hard tummy thing is Bracton Hicks contractions isnt it? I have only had one but it scared me.
Have got horrible acid indigestion/heartburn, last night every time I fell asleep I would wake up being sick - luckily we have a sink in the bedroom - after the 4th time I gave up and sat on the sofa with the cat. I know people say sleep propped up but its just not comfortable enough. So am off work today feeling sorry for myself (and washing all the tiny baby clothes we were given second hand - but it makes me all weepy) Blimey - I used to be quite a together person honest .
Got a midwife appointment in 2 days to decide if need to have growth scan - not so worried about it now as met several people who had them and said it was all about guestimate of size of baby and incredibly inaccurate etc.
Advice needed - baby changing furniture/dresser things. Have bought a changing mat - but do I need one of those dresser things - most of them are only big enough for the mat and it would be "side on" - dont you change them with them lying bum towards you ? And where do you out a bowl of water etc if you are using? Showing my naivety here, but it doesnt look like the dresser things are big enough?
Mrs Evs - I too must be obsessive cause I want you to put that list in date order
And all you ladies talking of kitchen floors I cant even bear to think about ours....

MrsQ · 06/02/2006 13:56

I think they're Braxton Hicks too - have had loads. Remember getting them last time worrying they were contractions starting early... but its an entirely different feeling as it turns out. Yes, leaning forward in any way seems to help, just one of those ones you just have to sit out (not terribly handy if you're in Sainsburys/ on bus / at work and unable to drop to all fours!). And the acid indigestion thing drives me mental - have Gaviscon on bulk order and have dispensed with stupid small spoon and tend to just glug it down in middle of the night now!

We always changed DS's bum side on... way too much risk of wee & poo sliding down off mat into you if you do it bum facing - better to keep the sides of the changing mat between you and the mess! The table thing is really a personal choice I think - if you are going to get a chest of draws anyway, then maybe get one with the changing table bit on the top, you can get some with a sort of extra top bit to give you the more space which then detaches when you don't need it anymore. We didn't bother in the end cos baby's clothes were all going to go in boxes / baskets on a shelf thingy we had, so we actually just used an extra bit of the shelf unit at a lower level (it was one of those kit type ones from Ikea where you buy sides and shelves of heights / sizes you want to customize into a unit). It actually worked quite well cos it was just the same size as the mat and then we used the shelf next to it for the bowl of water, cotton wool, wipes etc. Was a bit low, but neither of us a that tall so as long as you didn't take too long with the nappy your back survived! Some people say the safest & easiest place to to change nappies is on a mat on the floor, but after trying that for about a day last time, my stitches told me it was time to get OFF the floor!!

tonton · 06/02/2006 14:18

I've got a changing table from ikea. Didn't have one last time and did my back in withn a slightly-too-low chest of drawers. I'd go for side on too.
And gaviscon is wonderful stuff fopr heartbutrn - I drank gallons of it last time. So far so good thid time...
Funny how we all building sites for bedrooms! Hoep they're all interior-magazine ready by april!!

spots · 06/02/2006 18:57

We had an end- on changing table from Ikea for DD. Good design; it is on top of a chest of drawers and sort of flips out to become changing surface. When you don't need it or DD grows up or whatever, it folds back to make a sort of bureau type covered desk top. How I resent Ikea for being so predictably useful in this sort of thing.

DD suddenly in love with my bump, falling on it crowing 'Baby, Baby!' and then changing her tone to one of urgency, 'Open it!' But today she got muddled and thought my sticky-out tummy button was the very tiny baby.

MrsEvs · 06/02/2006 19:55

To begin with I changed DD on one of those contoured changing matts just on my bed which was great because I sat down next to it. I liked the sitting down idea so much that now I have a sofa bed in dd's room and I have the changing matt on that and sit down to do all her changes which has been a blessing especially now when I stand as little as I possibly can!!! I have a little trolley thing next to the sofa that cost me $15 that I have all my bits and pieces that I need on.

I had a lovely birthday yesterday at the Diabetic Clinic. It took 4 hours, I saw about 7 different people (many of whom told me completely different things.....) and the conclusion?
I gave gestational diabetes and to carry on as I am. Sigh, I love the NHS! Have to go back next week for a growth scan so another fun packed afternoon to look forward to.
At least I finish work next week, hurray hurray hurray!
