Now shall we get our stats down again? I think we have had some joiners since we last did it.
Copy/paste the list and add yourself to it.

Welcome little baby Q. I'm glad things went so well.

Oooooh, yes please to a photo............ when you've recovered!

Congratulations!

spots · 26/03/2006 22:42

MrsQ that is so lovely,I do like your attitude! Hope I can summonup a bottle of red when my time comes. And love the idea of 'hilarious contractions'! What a fantastic note to start on, so many congratulations to all four of you. Name and photo will be eagerly awaited! GrinGrinGrin

MrsEvs · 27/03/2006 02:44

Fab, fab news - congatulations to family Q. Well done!!!!! All at home with no pain relief - you really are amazing Grin. I'm also deeply impressed by the red wine - I think if they let all labouring mothers do that it hospital we'd all be a lot calmer Grin

Very interesting about the contactions slowing when you laid down. I knew moving around was supposed to help but who knew the difference would be that dramatic!! Food for thought...

Dying to hear a name and see a picture! I just got back from my baby shower which was really lovely. Will give you a proper description of that tomorrow probably when I have a bit more time.

allyco · 27/03/2006 10:53

brill news to MrsQ and MrQ and the little Qs, and I was determined to be first Envy. Name and picture soon please?!

Have been having twinges on and off over weekend but have come to nothing. Am defintely ready though and if he puts in an appearanc during this week it means i won;t have to work these last five days....

Anyone else on their way yet? Grin

pepperrabbit · 27/03/2006 11:15

I'm at the hospital this afternoon again - to have the great debate about whether they let me come home again! This would have been their first choice for induction date so we'll have to see.
I had quite strong regular cramps on sat night but chickened out and did the hot bath, lying down calmly instead of jumping about and getting everything going! Quite cross with myself now...
Bound to still be here come April 5th.

Emma7 · 27/03/2006 11:38

Wow Mrs Q - congratulations! Smile I hope I can be so brave and calm - will definately try the wine tip Grin

Now I have finished work I am so excited that I can hardly contain myself ( I still have 3 weeks and 5 days to go !!)Haven't got any signs of the 'nesting' insect yet - more up for lying around watching daytime TV - feel very lazy!!

MrsEvs · 28/03/2006 01:28

Lucky you emma7 - lying on the sofa watching tv sounds like bliss to me, make the most of it and sod the nesting Grin

So, my baby shower yesterday was fun. When we pulled up there were pink and white baloons outside the house and the house itself was full of them too, as well as white and pink flowers and party favours! There was loads of food/drinks and a fab cake along with little cupcakes with pink icing. I had to sit in a rocking chair with a footstool and yet more baloons attached. There was a pile of presents in the room, including a cake made entirely of nappies!!! Quite ingenious really the way it was done (like a 4 tiered round wedding cake) and actually very useful as it contained about 50 size 1 nappies, which should get me through the first few days at home.

Everybody just ate drank and chatted and then we did have to play a couple of "shower games". The first one, everybody in the room had to cut a piece of ribbon to the length they thought would fit around the widest part of my bump. Closest won a prize. Another one was a print out of lines from nursery rhymes and you had to name the rhyme - stuff like that. Then came the present opening which was a little embarassing as you had to hold up each item while everyone ooh'd and aaah'd, but people were very generous and lots bought dd1 something too so she didn't feel left out, which was very thoughtful.

My biggest suprise was that the girls from my playgroup had clubbed together and bought me that Eddie Bauer Bassinet that I really wanted but couldn't justify buying when I had things I could use. Needless to say I was delighted with that, and very touched. All in all a lovely afternoon (there was a glass of wine involved also Grin), some moments on the cheesey side but they did that on purpose so I got the full, traditional American experience!!!

Nothing else to report here I'm afraid. Lots of Braxton Hicks but that's about it, apart from the ridiculously leaky boobs. Who will be next I wonder???? My money is on allyco I think?

Emma7 · 28/03/2006 11:23

The baby shower sounds fun MrsEvs especially the nappy cake - what a fab idea Smile

I have a weird pregnancy symptom to report. Has anyone else had it or heard of it? Is it anything to worry about or just a normal thing? (these first timers, they know nothing !!!)

Here goes :
I am 36 +3 today and occasionally (about 3 or 4 times a day) I hear weird noises coming from my bumpShock It is when the baby does a strong movement and sounds like a bubble popping or a clicking type sound. It isn't when the baby has hiccups and it doesn't hurt but it is quite loud and freaky!

allyco · 28/03/2006 11:23

wow mrsEvs that sounds like a great party I am a bit Envy nothing like that ever happens to me Sad..

Had a bit of a fraught morning in the allyco household. Put littlest DDs shoes on to go to childminder and she ran straight into the TV. Her poor little nose is all black and she already has a huge bruise across one side of her face. She cried and cried and cried (so did I,nearly). God knows what it'll look like when I see her tonight. I feel so so guilty even though it was a genuine accident (look, am even justifying myself to you Grin). It's her first "real" accident.

What also upsets me is that some kids end up with bruises like that and it wasn't an accident IYKWIM Sad I just hope nobody thinks I did it to her....

Was up with some twinges through the night but they've passed off now. I think it was the shock of her accident!!!

Anything happening to anyone else....?

Ponka · 28/03/2006 14:12

Not heard of that one, Emma. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, though.

My money is on Allyco next, too! I'm surprised it's not happened already. You might actually have an April babe, Allyco. IKWYM about bruises. DS always seems to be crashing into things at this stage.

Nice shower Mrs. Evs. Got a picture of the nappy cake?

MrsEvs · 28/03/2006 14:16

Allyco, my dd is constantly covered in bruises as she is a real "explorer" and climbs/jumps/runs everywhere instead of walking like normal people - I know what you mean, I often wonder if people think I am either a bad mother for letting her get into these scrapes or that I inflicted them myself Shock - just one more thing to feel guilty about as a parent I guess Grin. What can you do though - can't wrap em in cotton wool.

Emma7 - don't know about your funny noise thing - that's a new one on me! Hope someone else knows...

MrsEvs · 28/03/2006 14:19

I do actually have a photo of the nappy cake - don't know how to show it to you though - can anyone more techy than me explain?

allyco · 28/03/2006 16:39

Will be going home at 5.00pm. Having terrible thoughts of what DD will look like (she's probably forgotten all about it but it will be a while before I do!)

Three more days at work yee hah. I think I am running on adrenaline now and as soon as I leave I will go home and that will be it, I will go into labour... I just wish there was something I could do to start everything off but I don't think there is until you are properly ready anyway, is there?

AND once I am in labour at least I will get a lay down for a couple of hours. God, am I going to milk it Grin Grin Grin

DebitheScot · 28/03/2006 17:32

Congrat Mrs Q, how exciting and you made it sound so easy, thanx!

Been at midwife today, head is engaged with 4 weeks to go, am I right in thinking that that doesn't necessarily mean anything in terms on when it will arrive?

Another Q thats been bothering me and I figured some of you who already have kids will know. When should I buy nursing bras? If I get them now am I running a risk of them not fitting when milk comes in or should I get them now as that'll be easier?

tonton · 28/03/2006 17:56

debi I went to John Lewis today to be fitted for nursing bras - I will be 37 weeks on thursday. They advised to buy just one or 2 (I bought 2 - one in wash one on!) and to come back after a few weeks after birth if they weren't fitting right anymore. They give you one that fits well on one of the loosest fastenings but that can tighten alot post baby when your ribcage should shrink back. She made me make a fist and put that inside the cup while I had the bra on to allow for bigger, milkier boobs! Scary thought...

pepperrabbit · 28/03/2006 17:58

Hi DebiTheScot, I seem to remember going at about 37 weeks last time - I think they advised dropping one size and holding steady on cups! This time I've just washed last times and am hoping for the best Smile

MrsEvs - baby shower sounds fab!

Emma7 - can't help with the noises I'm afraid..?

Allyco - If anyone deserves a rest, it's you!

Hi all, my space bar is broken so forgive any annoying runon words...

Emma, thinkyou should be very proud!sounds absolutely amazing to me. Wish you could post a sample sound on here, am really intrigued. That is certainlyone to tell the baby when he/she grows up.

I am feeling ready to rollbut DH has cough fromhell, which I have been through already but he has added knobs and knockers to. Both ofus were upfrom 3-6.30 last night with it. Suppose it'sgoodpractice...

Made a'book' today with DD to tellher allabout what is goingtohappen. She loves reading and drawing so it seemed the sensible way to deal with the subject. I don't mean the whole childbirth thing...just GrannyAnne looking after her and visitingMummy inhospital etc. Now that's done I feel even more prepared. The next two mornings I have lovelyfriends helping me get the baby's room a bitmore ordered and it WOULD be good to get that done too. There are such goodreasonsfornot havingthe baby quite yet but I would be soexcited to get going!

MrsQ, hope all is going well for you. Any naming happened yet?

MrsEvs · 28/03/2006 21:17

Agree with everyone else re the nursing bras - probably best to get at least 1 or maybe 2 ahead of time, you can always get another a few weeks in but you might not fancy going for a fitting for the first couple of weeks after.

How different your boob size is when the milk comes in often depends on the size you were to start with. I am rather generously endowed (34J ShockBlush), and I barely noticed a difference in size when the milk came in (just in firmness Grin) - just wore my regular size in nursing bras, but for my sis who is an A cup ordinarily - she went up to a C while breastfeeding, so big difference and new undies needed for her!

Also agree that allyco deserves more than a few hours lying down after everything - more like a month!

Secreteater · 29/03/2006 14:16

Wow - so much has happened since i last looked!
Mrs Q - so many congratulations!!! It all sounds positive whihc is lovely to hear!!

Thanks for all the advice last week about movements - I tired the cold drink and all fours and got some satisfying wriggles, then over the weekend baby played my tummy like a drum. I am far less worried now.

Debbiethescot - I saw MW yesterday who said baby is "well down into my pelvis" - but that he/she may stay there for some time prior to making an appearance. Apparently first babies often move down quite a while before arriving...

MW also told me I am not eating enough and need to rest more, my wee test showed I am using my own fat deposits - I then confessed I have lost weight recently.... I had a big baguette followed by cake for lunch (it had fruit in it so I think it counts as healthy -ish)

As for nursing bras, I went and got measured yesterday (4 weeks before DD but i don't think I want to make the treck to John Lewis/M&S any closer tot he time....) I purchased two, and will hold off buying more until some time after babe arrives and I can face leaving the house.

back to work now... lots to do before departure on Friday (yippee!!!!!)

colditz · 29/03/2006 14:36

Crikey, I haven't posted for ages!

Apparently my pelvis is still 'free', which isn't good news as I am due in 8 days, and ds went 2 and a half weeks over, and never engagaed.

Argh. I don't want to be induced again.

My boobs don't seem to have grown at all, but like MrsEvs I am well endowed in the norkular department, and they didn't grow last time either.

Wishing you all the labours you want!

poor little DD now has a nearly black eye to go with her bloody nose and cheek. It doesn't seem to have stopped her though because she's still hurtling around like a mad thing. People have said oh you won't mind so much if the next one is a boy. What a bloody stupid thing to say! If he hurts himself it will be just as bad won't it Shock.

Don't know about anybody else but I am having real trouble sleeping now? I'll get an hour or so then I wake up, mind racing, not really properly worrrying or anything, just unable to get back off. Then I go to the loo, read for a bit, drift off, wake up. Sound familiar to anyone?

Still, two more days at work after today. Fantastic. Can't wait. Am going to book hair appointment and dentist appointment for next week. You just watch. I'll leave work at 5.00pm Friday night and will go into labour shortly after. I just know it. The one chance I have for a bit of me time and it will all go wrong Grin.

Is MrsQ not about yet, as I'd love to know new baby Qs name?

petunia · 29/03/2006 16:09

allyco- have always had trouble sleeping all the way through my pregnancies. Last night, was awake from 12.30-3.30am. Lost count of the number of times I've heard the milkman turn up around 2am!

Emma7 · 29/03/2006 16:21

Allyco and Petunia - I can't sleep at night either at the moment, not really a discomfort thing, more that my mind is racing and can't seem to settle. Now that I have finished work though I can sleep in the day - I'm lucky that this is my first so no other children to look after.
It's great being off work - I can't believe that I have already eaten all of the chocolates bought for me when I left last Friday - greedy pig!!Grin
Still it will be time to diet after baby is born as I am a bridesmaid for SIL in December - might as well enjoy it now!!
