Ok, I did it!

Now shall we get our stats down again? I think we have had some joiners since we last did it.
Copy/paste the list and add yourself to it.

Colditz - due 06/04/06, aged 25, DP aged 32, 1 DS aged 2.9, having a baby boy! Very scared of needles....

Also a huge Buffy fan!
Saw the obstetrician today and wee finally went through my notes from my emergency cs last time. It all makes sense to me now - most likely my placenta was not funcioniong all that well and dd was pretty small and didn't cope well with labour hence fetal distress.
But good news is this baby's size seems more normal this time so no reason (that we know of) why won't be able to have a vbac. I will be monitored continually and have a canula - not brave enough to refuse either to be honest. I'll still be able to move a bit.
I went to joh lewis to buy clothes for newborn and bought their 'tiny baby' size which is up to 8lbs. Maybe I should swap it for 'newborn' which is 8-12lbs!

Good Afternoon all,
Hope Everyone is doing ok?
Feeling absolutly shattered, thought a morning out on the Army camp would be a nice change however it has totally wiped me out.I am now watching like an 80 yr old and everything aches!! This baby needs to come out soon! On the plus side i did manage to buy the new Harry Potter film (A mission i will tell you in Germany!) So an afternoon watching that with a nice cup of tea is the plan!! Been trying to order nearly the entire Next range but they will not let my registar NOT HAPPY NOW!!

Spots- I cant believe you have never watched Buffy! You really dont know what you are missing!!!! lol

MrsEvs - You are so lucky to be having a baby shower I really wanted to have one but moving away from my friends put a stop to those plans! Just be prepared for sacks loads of baby pressies!!

Pepper - The plus side is at least you know you are going to have you lil one here by the 6th April. A date you can plan to not just an estimate!

Homsa · 21/03/2006 19:48

I'm planning a VBAC too! Had an appointment with consultant at the hospital a few days ago, with DH attending. It was good that he went and heard from the horse's mouth that the chances of success are around 70-80%, if I tell him stuff like that he always thinks I cherry-pick the statistics that support my cause, and ignore the rest!

I wasn't happy to find out, though, that they want me to come into hospital when contractions are still 10 minutes apart - my midwife said to come in when they're 5 minutes apart, so I bet anxious DH will drive me to hospital at the first twinge, only for us to be sent home again!

Tonton, I've also been told I'll need to have continuous monitoring and a canula, but I'm determined to to refuse the latter! I hate needles and having that thing in my arm would make me really queasy and interfere with my labour, lover my pain threshold etc. I'll try to say that in my birth plan as politely as possible!

Is anyone else NOT feeling any Braxton Hicks contractions, or am I the only one? Does it mean I have a lazy uterus or something???

spots · 21/03/2006 20:04

No I don't get them really, though I had a couple of what can only be called 'twinges' last w eek; more like period pains than BH's which I alwyas associate with that bunched-up feeling in the belly.

Went to be interviewed for 'I'm Pregnant!' magazine today. sounds like a joke title doesn't it? not sure if it circulates outside of Scotland. It was quite odd, 4 completely different women sitting round a table being asked questions off a sheet of paper and nobody really listening to what each other was saying! Got a professional make up job done which was fun, and it felt like a bit of a day off. Then went with pal to a fabric warehouse and got lovely stuff for making curtains for baby's room, our room and front door. When will I ever manage to make these curtains? I don't exactly know but having the fabric makes me feel good.

pepperrabbit · 21/03/2006 21:12

spots - the fact that you even know how to make curtains puts me to shame!

pepperrabbit · 21/03/2006 21:23

and just to cheer up anyone worried about their failing mental capacities whilst pg.
I lost my hospital notes the other day, looked high and low for them, alone in the house so no-one else to blame.
where were they???
In the airing cupboard.
shoot me now.

tonton · 22/03/2006 10:33

I am also obsessing about curtains - but I'm afraid I'll be paying someone else to make them for me! Last quote I got was £1700!! (london prices for you) think I'll keep looking.....
I had a scare last night - quite sore contractions and felt really sick and flu-ey. But baby is still inside hoorah!
Homasa - we were alos told not to waste time in going in to hospital. I hear you abiout the cannula...it sounds horrid. See how I feel at the time I guess. But I'm also feeling way nmore positive about vbac as is dh.

allyco · 22/03/2006 11:15

homsa and tonton - I've been told will need venflon (cannula) in place BUT will also be on a drip throughout anyway cos of my constant vomiting. I'm still a bit dehydrated.

Am still black and blue from all the attempts to find veins last time I was admitted and that apparently is because I'm anaemic and bruising much easier.

I'm now starting to swell up generally (VERY nice) and my legs swell more or less up to my knees and it's quite pitted and painful. My hands are swollen too but they've said it's a combination of normal pregnancy swelling/being so so sick and generally run down and so on. Trouble is I am now quite stuck for shoes. Can't really wear my slippers to work...

My bump seems to have expanded over the last week or so which makes me feel better in a way. have noticed in hospital and so on that I seem a lot smaller than women who are less advanced in pg than I am, but have been told I am literally all baby and nothing else. I have put no weight on at all Grin but would not recommend this and frankly would give nearly anything to have been able to sit and stuff this last eight months. I'm wondering how much little man will weigh - the midwife says he doessn't seem small or anything. My second DD was 9lb 10ozs despite horrendous sickness so he may be a decent size....

pepperrabbit · 22/03/2006 12:29

allyco - when do you finish work? it must be soon with only 3 weeks to go??? Can you wear sandals at the office as a compromise - I seem to remember wearing flipflops last time cos my feet were so big - but it was a bit warmer! Swollen blue toes may not be so attractive Smile
I'm moving into headless chicken mode here. Knowing that I'll be being induced exactly two weeks today has galvanised me into a bag packing/cot sheet sorting frenzy! (well it had, until I sat down at the computer) I'm comforted by the noise of domestic appliances washing/drying/dishwashing in the back ground, makes me feel busy.
Hope everyone else is well - has Colditz been around recently? she's very quiet at the mo, hope you're OK Colditz.

DebitheScot · 22/03/2006 13:09

I bought curtain material too. Then promplty posted it to my mum to make them for me!

Think I'm getting braxton hicks. Short, sharp pains quite low down. Don't last long and just a couple at a time normally. I presume thats what it is anyway.

Back ache is whats currently driving me mad. If I stand for too long my whole back gets stiff and achy, if I sit down for too long I get sharp pain in the middle of my back. Very annoying and I'm assuming there's nothing I can do about it. grrr

pepperrabbit · 22/03/2006 13:24

DebitheScot - have you tried a birthing ball? I have a reebok one from Argos and it's great for back ache cos you can sort of swivel your hips/pelvis round more than you can normally. I think they're called exercise balls in the catalogue and they should have them at the hospital too.

DebitheScot · 22/03/2006 13:29

Thanx pepperrabbit. I do have one but had forgotten about it so will go and find it and blow it up and give it a go.

pepperrabbit · 22/03/2006 13:33

Don't go into early labour trying to blow it up!

allyco · 22/03/2006 15:04

wow pepper - this time two weeks today you could be huffing and puffing. Wow!

AND am ashamed to say that I should have given up work this week but got persuaded to work until the end of next week Blush. I know. I'm stupid.

Having said that, have never gone past 38 weeks with any of my pregnancies so chances are (at least I am hoping) that DH will be ringing work sometime next week to say I won't be in as babe arrived overnight. Oh, how I wish....

And the thought of my pudding feet in flip flops makes me want to vomit again!!!!!!!!

Emma7 · 22/03/2006 17:43

My feet and hands have swelled up too this week - I am having to wear a horrible pair of DH's smelly old trainers for work Blush.

Went to see the midwife yesterday and she said everything was ok and baby has engaged 4/5. Not really sure what this means in terms of when baby will arrive but it does explain the extra pelvic discomfort of recent days.

I finish work on Friday - yipee! Looking forward to daytime TV, having my hair done and generally chilling out Smile

spots · 22/03/2006 20:50

Ho, okay, we know what we are having! Do you want to know?

I am also 4/5ths engaged but they also said that SHE!!! was still quite far from the birth canal so I am assumng I've got a wee while to go yet, at least till my due date. Those curtains may get made after all...!

splutter at the price you were quoted for curtains Tonton! Are these just simple curtains or swags, fancy pelmets etc.? more than one window presumably? Am tempted to undercut your quote but you can see why I'm resisting...!

Ponka · 22/03/2006 22:27

She. Congrats, Spots!! Did they just tell you without you saying if you wanted to know? I guess it's an added bonus too that you can use DD1's clothes again.

Emma, I asked about these fractions of engagement on a quick thread a while back. Apparently 4/5 means that 4/5 of the head is still above the pelvis and 1 is under. I don't think it has too much bearing on how soon there is to go but it's a good indication baby is moving the right way Smile I'm 3/5 in now, apparently but someone on MN said that they can move down as well as up?!

Went to Mum and Dad's today and had a kip on their bed while DS was asleep. Oh my god, I want to move in now. It was a tempur matress with that hospital mechanism that moves up and down for your head and for your feet. It's the best sleep I've had in months! I'm really struggling now in my bed at home and have 4 duvets and 4 pillows in various places to prop me up to sitting while I sleep now.

tonton · 23/03/2006 10:03

Lol that baby 'can move down as well as up' - sounds the small print on an investment advert!

Spots that price was for 4 roman blinds - ok the fabric was pricey but most of that was the labour. That'll teach me to go to a trendy shop for a quote!

2nd last day at work. can't wait!

Secreteater · 23/03/2006 11:21

Hello all
All this talk of curtain making makes me wonder whether I am somehow failing to show the right nesting instincts.... although I do plan to finish unpacking boxes from our move over the weekend so the spare room looks more like a nursery than a self storage unit. Does this count?

I have been a bit paranoid the last few days, after being kicked and thumped VERY regularly the babe seems to have gone into hibernation. I am still feeling the odd movement, but not very strong, and half of me wonders if that is casued by me moving rather than the baby stretching etc.... should i be worried? Anyone else noticed a reduction in movemnet? could it be as they have fnally turned there is less room now? I am seeing the MW next tuesday but im not sure I can wait until then to be reassured.....

FirstTimer40 · 23/03/2006 12:10

Hi all
SecretEater - re the movements I have had such mixed info re this - and had the same anxieties as you - now 9 days from due date and two or three days ago baby went from being almost constantly active to hardly any. I spent almost a whole night prodding and poking (making bump sore) trying to wake him up. When I saw midwife she said its cause he's he's got loads less room and as long as I felt at least 10 movements a day (and a foot moving and then a head moving a few seconds later counts as two) then it was OK. I found drinking glass of very cold water going down on all fours did prompt at least one reassuring movement. Other way of looking at it is if you had community midwife or whoever to do quick listen to heart you would be reassured and could relax. But I do sympathise with the emotion.
Am well ready now - backache getting quite intense and knackered after doing simplest things. Two of my friends from antenatal class had their babies few days ago (due week before me) and they are gorgeous. Everything makes me cry too - presume thats hormonal rather then me crackingt up Wink
Will let you know if theres any action here..every twinge I get I think somethings strarting...Grin

gothicmama · 23/03/2006 12:30

FT 40 I am the same keep getting excited every twinge down to 6 days now so it should be getting closer

petunia · 23/03/2006 12:48

Afternoon all,
FT 40 and Secreteater- I mentioned to my midwife last week that I didn't seem to be getting as many movements now and she said it was down to lack of room. They are now more like nudges than definite movements.

Spots- think I've bought that magazine you were interviewed for. It comes out every couple of months doesn't it?

I'm 35wks tomorrow. I've got everything crossed that nothing happens in the next 2wks. My Mum and Dad are off to Cyprus today and really need them to look after DDs if anything happens. Otherwise I'll be toddling off to hospital by myself.

Hope everyone else is well.

Secreteater · 23/03/2006 12:57

Thanks Firsttimer40 - I'll start counting the little movements carefully and see how it goes....I know what you mean about prodding and poking - i am desperate for a response!

I'll try the cold water/all fours trick tonight for a little reassurance. Unfortunately I am still at work (ages before my due date) so I can't get to see the community MW....

gothicmama · 23/03/2006 12:58

you can also try something sweet to eat or a hot drink

DebitheScot · 23/03/2006 13:28

After feeling more movement than usual yesterday I'm not feeling much today and was wondering earlier if that was normal. Maybe its just tired out after yesterday. I keep prodding it too, bit cruel really!
Its really silly that at night I can't get to sleep if I haven't felt it for a while (also can't get to sleep coz DH taken up snoring as a new hobby) but then as soon as it starts moving I wish it would stop as its keeping me awake. Grin
